[Q] A big doubt ? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay I know your probably gonna think outright this an Android L page right, I'll not lie yes but in a different way.
Okay right now I'm running Motorola Stock Android 4.4.4, yes I have messed around flashed to GPE came back; back and forth. You get my point
So here's my question (its a big staged one)
If history is going to repeat itself that means the GPE edition of the G will get the update faster than the
Moto stock G. So if i were to say flash to GPE and keep it like that, the bootloader being unlocked would the Lollipop update work on the GPE or can I lock my bootloader to GPE (keep in mind mine is a XT1033) which i think isn't possible.
Why the concern on GPE and unlocked is cause Lollipop is the going to be the most secure android release and bootloader and secure go hand in hand..
Thanks for any insight/help

I'm afraid that if you have GPe and OTA to Lollipop, maybe you wont be able to flash KitKat, something like that happened when KitKat arrived and people wasnt able to flash Jelly Bean anymore because some things changed inside software. So I think this will happen when Lollipop arrives, some changes in the software will prevent downgrading Android versions. Later on, firmware images of Lollipop will appear and then maybe it will be possible to flash Moto Lollipop but with no more posibility to go back to KitKat.. IMHO I preffer waiting for Moto Lollipop...
And yes.. The Lollipop update is going to work on GPe only if you have stock recovery on it, and you will loose root access since a major system update means all system files being erased and replaced with brand new files, that also means formatting system partition and root files being formatted as well. So if you want, keep GPe but with stock recovery to make the OTA work properly.

Non gpe moto G got update from 4.3 to 4.4.2 faster than gpe one. So we can't say for sure which one will get L first.

How can i update via OTA with diffrent GPT/BL?

Its me again
My question is
Im going to use the 5.0 of Motorola when its officialy release
Im in CM12 actually
But i already have the 41.18 (5.0.1) bootloader
And i only can downgrade my xt1032 to 4.4.2, but i have to update to 4.4.4 first but i think i cant because of the GPT/Bootloader.
Is there any way to skip 4.4.4 or is there a 4.4.4 image for the xt1032 because i havent found anyone yet
Be very careful about what you do from this point. Some people have hard-bricked their phones by walking the road you are on. Their phones are useless until factory firmware images are available.
I suggest you wait until there is a full firmware image for Stock Lollipop. When available, it will be announced here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2546251&page=11
Thank you mate ?

[Q] Moto G Telus/Koodo, screwed up 5.0.2 update : please help..!

Hello Android gurus
I tried to find the answer to my problem in the other threads, but I'm still not 100% sure if I should proceed.
. I had rooted xt1032 moto g prior to 5.0.2 OTA that came out yesterday.
I used full unroot with supersu prior to applying the OTA thinking it would be ok. I guess I screwed up, my phone is soft bricked.
I can get in stock recovery but otherwise it is on boot loop and ends up with 'no command'.
I have the moving line problem on the bootloader white screen which seems to imply a diferent version of kernel and bootloader, (which I do not full understand)
.. Which makes we wonder if it is unsafe to flash the stock rom 4.4.4 image of my phone.
And if it is safe, will I be able to update via OTA after that?
What are my options? Thanks in advance!
The moving line issue is probably due to the fact that you have the 41.18 bootloader on your phone.
I also have a Koodo xt1032 with the 41.18 bootloader and was able to flash back to stock Telus 4.4.4. Do not flash stock 4.4.2 as other XDA members have said that flashing 4.4.2 would brick your phone.
I'm checking for OTA updates but I keep getting the message that my phone's software is up to date.

[Q] Sell my moto G but screen is flickering

When my regular moto G was at 4.4.4 I decided to "upgrade" my phone to 5.0.1 GPE. Then, for some reason, I did not want GPE 5.0.1 anymore, so I downgraded to stock 4.4.4 then installed cyanogenmod 5.0.2.
The result is the famous screen flickering - which can be solved by locking/unlocking the screen once.
Now I want to buy a new phone and sell my moto G. I'm wondering how I could get rid of the screen flickering. People will think that the moto G is somewhat damaged and will not buy. Will the screen flickering be gone if I downgrade to stock 4.4.4 again? Or do I have to wait for kernel fix?
Best regards
Martin
Kernel source is out. I personally haven't used it yet but I'm thinking that should solve it.
Ok
Could I just flash that kernel on my phone then? Where can I find it? Thanks for your help, I'm new to this
If an OTA update to 5.0 is available for your phone, flash back to stock and take the OTA update.

Hmm, the OTA will come. Dunno when.
Lets say I do as you suggest, will I get the OTA even if I don't have exactly the same stock image as when i bought the phone? Cause I can only find this (i'm from Sweden):
XT1032_RETAIL-EU_4.4.4_KXB21.14-L1.4…d7_CFC_1FF.xml.zip
You think that would give me the OTA Lollipop when it comes?
Best regards and thanks a ton for your help
I'm not sure, but if it isn't available through OTA, maybe you can find a stock image later.
I flashed my Telus xt1032 back to stock 4.4.4 and it keeps saying my software is up to date, but I know it isn't. It may take time for the Lollipop update to happen.

Moto G LTE XT1045 updated to Lollipop rolled back to Kitkat

Okay, so I recently bought a used Moto G LTE, seller said it would be on Lollipop 5.1. When I received it, it had been rolled back to 4.4.4. Hence the screen ripple at every boot up (which persists until the phone is locked and then unlocked) that almost gave me a heart attack the first time. A little googling later I learn this happens because while you can downgrade android the upgraded version's bootloader remains. So last night I finally got around to rooting since I just can't go from a rooted phone to living with a non rooted one, feels like my phone has a noose around it. Anyway I wanted to know if it's safe to flash CM on my phone now or should I reupgrade to 5.1 first? And if I should is there a way to get it to update OTA again? If not any suggestions where to find the firmware? I just want to feel free to flash roms without bricking my phone. Hi.
In my xt1040, i can flash CM 12 lollipop or a stock rom based from kitkat 4.4.4 without problems (I have a updated bootloader), to get OTA updates again, its necessary flash the stock rom (KK or LP), without root, PURE stock (with all "bloatware").
Now im using a optimized rom from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/4g-development/rom-stock-motorola-4g-lollipop-rom-t3142816
No bugs, amazing battery life, and a pure stock, no "bloatware", great ram management.
Sorry for bad english.

You'll have to wipe the system anyway, updating it will be a waste of time...

Moto G 4g on stock KitKat not detecting official lolipop update

Hi,
My wifes old phone is a Moto G 4g, she kept it on KitKat and never updated it to Lolipop. I'm looking to root it and put lineage OS on it, but I need to update it first to make sure the radio firmware is correct. When I try and do a system update now it keeps saying its already on the latest version, but its on KitKat so this cant be right. My wife was getting this popup before years ago but ignore it because she wanted to stay on KitKat, just wondering why its not working now ?.
Thanks in advance
