[APP][PHP][ANDROID] OTA For ANY Custom ROM - Other Tools & General Discussion

I just posted OpenOTA to GitHub today for anyone who would like to download partial source code (Full source will be in the GitHub after Prototype is finished.)
About OpenOTA
OpenOTA is a project I started on 10/27/2014 that will hopefully change how users get OTA Updates. OOTA allows a developer to "Self-Host" their ROM's updates and also allow users to get them, over the air. A neat feature of OOTA is that the ROM Update does not need to be hosted on a web server you own, you can use d-h.st, mediafire, 4shared, or whatever hosting provider you like , it doesn't matter where!
Here is how it works: The user's ROM, on boot, will check for an update, if there is one, the user will be prompted to download. The prompt is once per boot, and once per OOTA app launch. When the user chooses to download, it will open the users browser to the download the update.
Why did I do this you might ask? To keep the apk file as small as possible.
Why integrate the download when we can just use the web browser that is built in?
This also allows developers with limited bandwidth use other hosting providers.
I hope some developers find this app very useful as I made it to be open to everyone!
Please let me know what you guys think, give me ideas, tell me where I can improve.
I currently use it in my Custom ROM AdvancedStock7 for the LG Optimus F3 from Virgin Mobile but the app itself is compatible with android 4.0+

Offering free hosting for Android ROM's

I have a shell hosting secondfloor.ca, and permission from the sysadmin to mirror Android roms. No ads, etc. Hosted in Montreal, Canada. I believe it uploads at 100mbps. It costs me $10 per terabyte to upload, so if it comes to it I may have to add 'Image verification' for downloads.
I don't have an easy way to give other's ftp access, and so I'd prefer to download the rom from some other site, and then give a link for the mirror. A readme/changelog file would be helpful too, with contact information (email) for the rom maintainer.
Some conditions:
Android roms only.
To save space, old releases would get deleted when there's a new release.
I want copies of all the patches, a text file with the list of modifications, the git pull version and git url for the upstream sources. No secrets. I want to be able to reproduce the rom. This will be archived along with the rom.
So each ROM would involve 3 files:
android-rom-htc-desire-xxx-v1.zip
android-rom-htc-desire-xxx-v1-readme.txt
android-rom-htc-desire-xxx-v1-patches.zip
And an index.html if the team wants to make a web page for their rom.
I can also host a forum if development teams want their own forum. The forum would also allow uploading the rom to the site as an attachment.
Please feel free to comment on this offer. Let me know if there's anything else I can do.
PM me to mirror your rom, or email [email protected]

[APP][L+] LBudget

Hello everybody,
like I guess quite a few people here, I develop for Android in my free time, and this is my second app. It's a finance tracker, hopefully an evolution to the well-known MoneyWise. I decided that I wanted a new one since, although MoneyWise is definitively useful, it's ugly and its usability is a little bit too cumbersome.
So, I made LBudget with the Material Design principles in my head as much as I could and, if any of you uses the Google+ app, you'll hopefully find the navigation relatively familiar.
The app is still in Beta phase (using the Google Play platform) and, because of the current condition of Android L, it will remain as such at least until a stable release is commercially released. Nevertheless, I would like to use the time until then for the app to be tested and improved. If you would like to contribute by installing it, you'll first need to follow the annoying Google Play standard procedure:
Join the testing community at https://plus.google.com/communities/117254163315407088886
Register as a test at https://play.google.com/apps/testing/org.jorge.lbudget (use the same account with which you joined the testing community).
Download the app in the link that the aforementioned page provides once you become a tester.
For reporting bugs, requesting features, or such, I want to really encourage you to utilize the project GitHub issue tracker, but if you don't know how to use it just leave a comment and I will "port" it to GitHub.
Also, if you're interested in contributing but not using Android L yet or simply don't want to install the app, you can contribute to the translation project at https://crowdin.com/project/lbudget
Went to check this out, but it says I need a newer SDK version. I'm not on L, anyway to make it compatible with 4.4.4?

Well, the app is compatible with L+, so understandably if you try to install in 4.4.4 you cannot. Probably it is feasible to adapt the app to 4.0+, but my intention was knowledgeably using only the new features of L to become familiar with it.

[APP][2.3+][GPLv3] APKGrabber: Re-Release of APKUpdater

APKGrabber
APKGrabber is a fork of APKUpdater. Big thanks and of course all credits go to rumboalla.
I try to develop new features and maintain the software to stay available on latest android devices, but don't expect weekly updates.
For feature requests, issue tracking, new releases and all dev related stuff see my Github page.

Thank You looking forward to a great app.
Thanks for owning the maintenance & upgrade of this beautiful app.
However, I have few issues related to APKGrabber
- Whenever, i click Ignore button, in a few seconds, I see a FC.
This is on Asus Zenfone Max pro m1, stock android, non-rooted, bootloader locked, non-twrped phone
Log option do not work all the time. i see an empty screen while i click on log from the right 3 vertical dots
- I would like to visit APKmirror instead of downloading from it.
Is it possible to provide an option to copy the link ( I mean click to download / Long hold to copy the link kind of option)

I think if both methods ('old APKUpdater'; visit APKMirror and new APKGrabber; direct download) could be available as option in App preferences, that would be great and serve both needs.

Please add all dev related stuff to the GitHub issue tracker.
Btw, new release is out fixing/adding that stuff, see link above.
Best
Dennis
Latest v1.1.3 says it is still v1.1.2 when installed and the update notification shows up.
Thanks, fixed it now. Just download again.
Hi,
Artem here from APKMirror. I'm glad someone revived APK Updater, so kudos on that!
However, the setting you added to directly download from the site now turns the app into a leech which uses up our bandwidth without giving so much as an ad or page view in return. We had an understanding with the previous author about this, and because of them we actively helped him with the fast API and did not block his app. This direct download addition to APKGrabber now, however, goes against all of that.
Please remove it, as it's against our terms of service.
Thank you for understanding.

Hey,
sorry, didn't know about any agreements. New release is out, bringing back the old behavior. Furthermore, i deleted all previous artifacts containing that stuff.
@Archon810 is anybody actively maintaining the API? I would like to get in touch to propose some questions about it. That would help making APKGrabber an up-to-date, stable app.
Best

Hey Dennis,
Thanks for the swift action. We have been hosting APK Updater on APKMirror (last release is https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/rumbo...lease/apkupdater-1-5-11-android-apk-download/), and I'm open to now hosting APKGrabber too, as it's getting updates. Would you like that?
Would you like to chat further about the API? PM me and we can connect on Telegram.
Nice to see a friendly community
Just want put it out there because there are bound to be some people who decide to take the ****... what happens if people don't bother updating to the version that removes the direct download feature?
I'm hoping some action can be taken without penalising the developer, having detrimental effects on APKMirror and the average user

If there aren't to many probably nothing will happen otherwise direct linking will probably just be blocked.
Edit: I love the new ignore button right in the updates window.

Cool, was just putting it out there because more often than not its just a handful of people that tends to ruin it for others.

Yeah so far so good thank you for the updates. Continued fine tuning version detection would good.
When it would auto download from apkmirror we didn't see where it would download them too.
Is your app setup for the Google Feedback for when it crashes? I just sent a log of it crashing.
Can you please add play store link of the app to be updated?
Thank you.
Glad to see this project revived.
Though it still seems to struggle when in background on Pie - actually, I can't remember wether APKUpdater could even achieve a successful background scheduled search - it will start but won't ever finish.
Getting to its UI will show it still hasn't been able to fetch the installed apps' list & actually start the search. (VPN used + WiFi only setting ticked if relevant)
Also, APKGrabber updates never are found after just opening the app but only when a manual search is launched regardless of the auto option being active.
Also, if I may, I'd like to submit a couple of ideas :
- For when notifications are set to show up only when updates are available (or maybe even in other cases), I think it would be nice if the notification could get dismissed as the users gets to the available updates page.
- Available themes are ok but now not one seems coherent with the app's icon anymore. Replacing them with a tweakable theme engine would be better suited to each user's taste.
Great to see APKUpdater revived! It was a long awaited news!
Are you planning to increase API target to Oreo at least? This is one of the few apps on my phone that still targets Nougat
FYI, APKGrabber is available on F-Droid via the IzzyOnDroid Repo.
The app is now live at https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/hemker/apkgrabber/ too.
