[Q] Am I safe to update OTA? (XT1032 conv. to GPE) - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys! So after much confusion (and much luck) I've somehow managed to downgrade and flash GPE to Moto G XT1032! however, I'm unsure if its safe to now update to 4.4.4 OTA. I think I'm running stock recovery (flashed 4.4.2 recovery that was for my firmware and I get the red triangle with menu 'Android System Recovery 3e' or something). Is this stock recovery? Will installing the OTA to 4.4.4 put my phone into a bootloop?
Everything on the phone is running fine, cell signal included. I just don't wanna goof my phone up again.
Thank you! <3

Can I officially update my phone still?

I've rooted my moto G and attempted to install CWM but i think that the stock recovery has flashed itself back, this is because i can only access CWM via the ROM manager. I'm still running the stock ROM that came with the phone but i've removed some apps, will this effect me updating the phone to 4.4 kitkat once i receive the update? Thanks in advance.
It could. It depends on what got updated.

It depends on several factors. If you have an unbranded phone, then you shouldn't have an issue. You should still be able to get the OTA updates.

[Q] OTA update error with unlocked and rooted Moto G

Hi,
I've got an off-contract Moto G, unlocked the official way, and rooted with the "superboot" method. I didn't flash any custom recovery.
Today I got the notification for the 4.4.2 OTA update. But after downloading it, once rebooted the update installation lead to an "Error" message without further information. The device then reboots and is still on 4.3.
Did anyone else meet the same problem ? Do you have to unroot/relock my moto g ? Is there a log file somewhere on the device which explains what the exact error is during the update process ?
Thanks a lot for any help !
You have to unroot the phone.
Ok, thanks for the reply.
And is there a way do unroot it without flashing the stock firmware and thus erasing the phone data ?

You can unroot from within the superuper app, clear the caches in recovery, reboot and retry.

Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. I still get the "Error" message during update. I guess I'm good for a full stock ROM flash, now...
EDIT : I finally flash a stock retail ROM, and everything went smoothly. And the good news is that I didn't lost any data or settings. My Moto G is now running Android 4.4.2. Thanks a lot !
Can anyone tell me how to unroot moto g without flashing a stock rom
I have got a moto g and i rooted it incorrectly. How can i unroot it and reroot it correctly?

Cant. Tried flashing again dual sim br and then the ota but i get ' Installation aborted ' everytime.....
It sounds like your Bootloader has been updated so you can no longer boot the KitKat kernel. Can you please state what version your Bootloader is now?
For example mine is: 41.13
This weekend I will try to build a Stock ROM based on Retail DS BR Lolliopop. That should get your phone back, as long as you have a custom Recovery installed.
Perhaps you could try to flash the full latest 4.4.4 Brazil rom; the OTA update to Lollipop might work on this one. Just not sure if it is safe to revert to an older bootloader on Moto G, never tried this myself.
If this doesn´t work or you don´t want to try, you will need someone to upload a full 5.0 ROM and look for a backup phone until then
My bootloader ver. is 41.18
i've tried reflashing br dual sim version and then the 5.0 ota. But it doesnt work.

How to update a rooted Moto G (XT1032) 4.4.4 to 5.0?

Hi,
the title says it all:
How can I apply the 5.0 OTA update on a rooted, unlocked Moto G XT1032 with CWM recovery?
I don't care about root anymore and I have used SuperSU to unroot the phone.
But in order to apply the update I need to install the stock recovery, otherwise the device will get stuck in a bootloop.
How do I do this? I have tried using MotoToolAIO and its "Flash Stock Recovery KitKat" button but get a
Code:
hab check failed for recovery
message every time I try.
Could you guys please tell me how to get the stock recovery installed on this phone? As I said I don't care about losing root and I don't mind relocking the phone if necessary. I would really appreciate any pointers you can give me. Possibly without losing my data & apps. Thank you.
This page apparently is supposed to contain all those stock files but it is broken: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14
This manual seems to be helpful for similar cases, it did not help me, though: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
Download the stock 4.4.4 ROM for your phone, extract the recovery.img file, and flash it using fastboot commands.
You also need to be unrooted with the stock Motorola apps.

If you think that solves the proble, well...yes. But where do I find that file? As I indicated the only possible source seems to be unavailable currently. I can't find any other.
Does anyone here have an XT1032 DE singleSIM recovery image lying around?
As I am currently living in South Africa and internet is not reall stable it would be amazing if someone could offer just the recovery file instead of the whole 500-600MB dump.
I have a Canadian xt1032 running stock Telus 4.4.4 firmware. Not sure if that recovery would work but I could find it if you want to try it.
Don't forget to unroot too.
I unrooted too using SuperSU and managed to restore the stock recovery using MotoTool (find it on XDA). These are the basic requirements for installing an OTA. But after the OTA is downloaded and I try to install it, the process starts and in about 10 seconds it displays "Error" and boots to 4.4.4 again. Any recommendations?
^^did you remove any of the stock Motorola apps?
No, and Motorola Update Services is updated to the last version.

I doubt it - and fear what might happen if it goes wrong, to be honest. But thanks a lot for the offer. I was able to locate a Retail package for the DE version and will try to download the whole beast, hoping that the connection is stable for these 3 hours.
Even though nobody answered me, I found out what's going on. Lollipop OTAs cannot be installed on modified devices.
You could try out some custom ROM if you are unable to get the official 4.4.4. Carbon and CM11 are some customs ROMs I know of.
There are great unofficial ROMs on the moto g xda forum too!! Don't forget to have a look.

I'm thinking of Resurrection Remix 5.0.2
You could also check out mokee, crdroid, xperience. And don't forget to check out the ROMs in the forum list

One question man. I have 4.4.4 installed. Do I have to install stock 5.X in order to get lollipop bootloader before installing any ROM?

how did you manage to un-modify your device? I just bought the Moto G (2013) and have unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP and haven't had any luck installing ANY firmware after 4.4.4.... I'm always getting stuck on the bootlogo and have to return back to stock 4.4.4...

You need to have factory firmware and recovery installed in order to update via OTA.

Yes you can flash the OTA update without any issues. Considering your bootloader is 41.18 you wont be having any trouble and obviously since you clean flashed 5.0.2 surely your bootloader must have updated itself automatically
