I took a nexus 5, 6 months back, i had updated it to 4.4.4. Since yesterday it ws behaving wierdly. My network would just drop and then upon searching for networks under mobile networks, i was able to reconnect bt suddenly it jst stopped working. i wasnt able to connect to any cellular network on any sim card whereas the same sim card was working on other devices. even on searching for mobile networks i couldnt find anything. i tried every possible thing, i switched to android L, and even downgraded my phone to 4.4.2 bt absolutely nothing worked (i knw that means unlocking my bootloader and i have lost warranty but i had to try something). please help me out, this is getting toooo annoying (P.S i dropped my phone once, got a very minor bump, is there by any chance a hardware issue due to that?) it is connecting to wifi network and bluetooth perfectly
If you've flashed a clean stock image, then unfortunately it's likely hardware. Antenna may have been damaged when it was dropped.
Or its a carrier issue. Or Sim. Did you try a friends Sim that's the same size?
I've been having fun same problem got the past week or so. I'm on T-Mobile and I have had no service, or service dropping to "H." Mostly it's just no service, then "low" service.

I bought my One S from Telus through a friend who's a Telus customer this past June and used an unlock code bought online to use it with my carrier (MTS). After setting it up with the MTS APN settings it worked perfectly for several months. Then around 2 or so months ago, I got an OTA update to 4.0.3 and as soon as I got the update, the phone started regularly dropping the connection to the network. Signal strength wasn't an issue, it would just cut out completely, giving the message about emergency service only. Some days it wouldn't be too bad and would just cut out momentarily and sometimes it would drop for a good time or drop so repeatedly as to make the phone unable to even dial out. It would sometimes even vary in severity throughout the day. I haven't rooted or unlocked the phone in any way except for a carrier unlock code.
As I was very busy with school, I gritted my teeth and beared it but it seemed to get progressively worse to the point where I finally sat down to seriously look into, and got on the phone with MTS tech support, HTC tech support, as well as trying to talk to MTS sales reps at their store locations. MTS is clueless on what to do (or just refuses to help) because they don't sell the One S. I talked to HTC three times and their only solution was to see what happens with sim cards from different phones and they also noted that the stock software, as well as updates, are tied to the carrier and could be causing problems.
MTS also talked me into buying a new sim card and seeing if that fixes the issue, where it actually made things worse somehow and now the phone often cannot get a connection at all or drops it and doesnt pick it back up (on the settings screen, "mobile data" gets stuck at "turning on" but even voice doesn't work). I've tried getting other people's sims to try in my phone but they all seem to have ones of different sizes. All I've been able to try is a Rogers sim (which I only could test for a short time, but seemed to stay connected and stable for that time) and a Telus sim (which wouldn't work at all, strangely enough. Though one person I talked to at HTC said that by unlocking my phone its possible I received the OTA update from a different carrier such as Rogers).
I'm not sure what to do here as I've tried messing with many settings and searching for solutions without finding one that works. One of the HTC reps I talked to said that I could either send it in (and lose the phone for 2-3 weeks without a guarantee this wouldn't happen again) or while they can't recommend it, I could try rooting the phone and downgrading the software to what it was before. A guy I talked to at a local cell repair shop listened to my problem for about a minute and a half and then said rooting would fix it.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate hearing them. I'd like to get some more input before I void the warranty by trying to root it and replace the software with some in case that doesn't fix it and I have to send it into HTC for a big fee.
Hello,
Recently, I had bought a used phone from someone, very nice Xperia RAY [st18i], but I didn't know that it's sim locked to T-mobile. I went to T-mobile centre and they said to me, that they can't do anything because phone is still under varranty, and If it is they can't unlock. So I made some research, found a solutions like buying a unlock code via weird sites, but the phone Is THAT hard sim locked that I even can not simply insert a unlock code., also bootloader is locked and can not be unlocked. [bootloader unlock: no].
My friend recommended me a solution of buying a "Turbo Sim", so I had bought one of them. It was simple, but there was a need to cut my SIM card a little to fit with a Turbo Sim in a sim container. But it doesn't matter, my xperia turned on and was not anymore asking to sim unlock code, I had just filled my PIN code and ... it wasn't working.. In a few seconds in a progress bar I had saw, that I had no signal,.. then it showed red "x" next to an empty signal bars and then the X dissapeared and again, no signal. Like a loop or something. I was confused, what to do.. I had tryed many times without any luck or success.. another day I had tryed again AND luckily, It was working!! This time it showed me no signal bars, then the red "X" next to a signal bar marks and then it turns to a full signal with a letter "R" next to signal bars [maybe roaming?].. but it was working!
I was glad.. but only for two days when I forgotten to charge my Ray and It went off, so I switched it again and AGAIN no luck! Signal bars dissapeared, - I am sure that the Turbo Sim still works, its not damaged or broken. A two weeks after this, I had tryed again to put my sim into my Ray, and it worked.. I don't know why and how, but it was working!... So I tryed to prevent discharging, It worked for a week or two, but my android messed a little bit and showed me weird things so I needed to reboot.. My signal bars dissapeared again and I am not able to connect to network again.
I am confused, what to do? Does anyone experienced something similar or same?
I had also downloaded an app LTE settings - as those turbo sims are only for GSM networks and there in my country we have WCDMA preferred networks, so I changed this the second time and it worked for a while.. Also tryed to switch on and off DNS server control. I had tryed many different roms just to be sure that It's not software related, I was not able to change kernel because of locked bootloader, I had tryed everything I found on internet without success.
Please, can somebody tell me what else to do? What can I try? Why It is working sometimes, and then for a weeks it's not and than It again works.. It is working always for unlimited time SINCE reboot, than I am not able to catch signal again.. How this can happen?
Every advice would be greatly appreciated!

Well, no-body replied, as it was expected -_- Since yesterday I solved the Isuue - For the others which will be searching for this kind of problem - An user "cadnyc" at youtube said that "T-mobile - some of the users on the forum recommended i plug that tmobile sim card back to a tmobile phone. let me reconnect to the cell towers. make a call and hang up. your tmobile is on its network now. eject the sim and plug it back to the iphone. im testing that right now."
THATS works perfectly! Regards
After flashing CM12 on my nexus 5 (D821). I flashed the 20 jan Nightly and everything was working fine untill i update to the 22nd jan nightly when my 3g simply stopped connecting or had very spotty signal, i didn't give it much thought at first thinking it was a nightly problem but after one week i reflashed stock lollipop, locked the bootloader, even tried kit-kat and the problem is still there. Before flashing cm 12 2g/3g/lte switching was working perfectly for about one year.
So utill now: i flashed different stock rom's, different kernels, radios, custom roms and nothing worked. When i tried switching the sim with another one from the same network, 3g worked on the other phone so i doubt that the sim is defective, but on my nexus i had the same connectivity issues. I also played with the *#*#4636#*#* menu and managed to get 4G working again but only in CDMA mode and I cannot receive any calls or texts, but the internet connection is working, 3G also connected at some point but the signal was very poor.
I am lost now, and also desperate because edge is too slow for anything. What confuses me though is that this seems to be a software issue since the cause was me flashing a different ROM but all the signs point to a hardware issue.
Can anyone plese give me a second opinion? Is there any fix for this? (Also i recently went to my network's service to replace my screen assembly, could also this be an issue? the issue appeared about 2 days after getting it back from them, also about the same time i flashed cm12)
Thank you for your time.
Also another thing i just noticed:
I opened my phone's back cover and the writing on the frame covering the motherboard says D820 and in the bootloader my phone shows as D821. Is this common for every D821 model?
I started to wonder if i got all my components back from the phone service... Although it's highly unlikely that they mingled with the motherboard since everything that i had on my phone was still there (custom ROM and all my personal info) maybe they switched the antennas...
Is the antenna connected?
Im going with disconnected antenna as well.
So I went to Sony to get my battery replaced. Sony wanted to replace my screen and motherboard so I decide not to go forward with it. Sony literally returned my phone with my display out and headphone jack issues. I went back and they "fixed" my display but with even more issues. But that all issues aside ever since I got my device back I am having issues with connectivity on my phone. Their service center claims they need to change the board to solve issues which didn't exist before I submitted my phone and they want me to pay for it.
Here's what's happening if I'm on LTE it will sometimes work in bursts but otherwise won't work at all. I have the LTE sign though. Data works more or less fine on HSPA+ if I force WCDMA in settings but sometimes the phone looses signal completely. I've tried replacing my sim, using my secondary sim (Jio, which being a 4G only network is completely unusable on this phone). I've tried flashing my phone with latest india ftf but that didn't change a thing. My Bluetooth range has also shortened significantly.
I purchased a used US version Rog Phone 5 recently through an online seller. When receiving the phone, I gave it a good once over and powered it on and tested wifi and such and everything seemed to be in good working order. I then rooted the phone and set most of stuff up. After inserting my sim card, I noticed the cell reception was not that great. I suffered through for a couple of days but was missing calls and texts like crazy. I was constantly dropping reception entirely in areas where I have very good signal with other phones. The phone is essentially useless now. I tried several factory resets, flashed back to the non-rooted boot image, and then flashed to an older firmware with no improvements to signal. I can't imagine the reception issue is in any way related to the rooting process, but I'm throwing this out there just in case anyone has seen anything similar in the past.
A few things to note:
I am on AT&T
The APN is definitively configured correctly
I could have returned the phone to the online seller for a refund prior to unlocking the bootloader, but did not insert a sim before rooting, so I have no idea whether the issue was present from purchase or not. Lesson learned, I suppose... do a more thoroughly inspection before doing anything that will void a warranty or refund agreement.
I have tried the same sim in two other phones with no issues.
Everything else about the phone seems to work perfectly, only poor reception.
I had the phone up to approximately 30 miles from my house with no change, so it isn't limited to a specific tower.
Does anyone have any ideas? If I don't come up with anything I will be posting it on ebay as "not working - for parts only" so I will try about anything at this point.
Sim recognition issue
Owned the phone for about a month now. Phone was working perfectly fine for the majority of this time. I use 2 different sims and they were both working smoothly until recently. A few days ago, I woke up and the phone wouldn't recognize the Sim...

sim card problem
just all of sudden it became invalid sim try multiple time reset or clear data cache sim toolkit original sim to other phone is working other sim to original phone is working other sim to other phone is working anyone face the same problem...

Sounds like they pawned the issue off on you, but it should still be under warranty to have it repaired. When you contact Asus, don't mention unlocking the bootloader. Stick to the hardware concerns.
I have looked over both of those threads, but it seems to be a different issue. My sim is recognized fine, its just the signal strength that appears to be extremely low. Even when the phone has no service at all, it still recognizes the AT&T sim is present.

Yes, it is not the same issue, but it appears to be a similar issue. The important detail being that both required a motherboard replacement.
