[Q] Cyanogenmod 11 on 19305t - General Questions and Answers

I have a Galaxy s3 i9305t (australian version) with cyanogenmod 10.1 installed on it. I see there is now CM 11 for the i9305. My question is, can I install the later version "over the top" of my existing version without selecting wipe data / factory reset so I can keep my apps and settings as they are now or would it be better to wipe data / factory reset before I started and put my apps back on after?
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

There should be an option within the ROM for installing updates if I remember CM correctly, however I would always recommend backing any data up with a nandroid backup. Apps should also be backed up using titanium backup and any other data via windows transfer before any upgrade.
Also when changing versions of ROMs eg CM10 to CM11 I would suggest using the advice above, then wipe data /factory reset and cache wipe before installing the ROM to prevent bugs and issues as I have always had issues when not wiping but the good news is you can restore your apps from the titanium backup

Thanks

No problem, hope it works

Sorry for late reply. Nope still didnt work. I have tried it numerous times and even downloaded the file again in case something was wrong with my download. Each time I try to install it fails. I have got 10.1.3 up and running again, so I think I will stick with that as it is working very well. Thank you very muck for your help and suggestions.

REQ: Guide to switch from CM9 4.0 to nightlies

My GF has the NS4G, and currently she's using CM9 4.0, the latest listed on XDA, but I want to get her on the nightlies route, but I really don't want to wipe her phone if I don't have to. I was planning the following, and was wondering if someone could verify that it will or won't work for me.
USB latest nightly to her phone
Boot in to CWM, to a full backup
Wipe dalvik
Flash nightly.
I'm hoping that CM9 4.0 is new enough that I won't have to wipe anything else & all her apps & whatnot will stay. Am I missing something, or should I be good? Thanks!
Oh, I was also thinking of going the ROM Manager Premium route, but I've never had much luck with it. Mostly just looking for advice. Thanks again!
I've had problems in the past with trying to do something regarding from manager and CMR. Most of the times things work correctly though . I have the premium version. I'm not sure, you can take a risk if you want and wipe dalvik cache and flash a nightly but its best to make a nandroid backup of her current rom before you do so. To be honest i don't know if you can do that and not have an issue. Titanium Backup Pro(I don't know if free version can do this) can pull data settings and apps from another nandroid and restore them to the newer build(if you wipe everything after you backup her rom.) So that's another option

Legend 3 ICS Edition Update

Hi there. I currently am running the Legend 2 ICS Edition ROM for Infuse 4G. I just noticed there is a new update Legend 3 ICS. If I want to keep all my files and apps, do I just flash the Update file (instead of the Full Wipe file)? And do I need to go through the same process, clear cache, dalvik cache, etc.? Probably no need to wipe data and factory reset.
Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.

I suggest do a full wipe, if you want to keep your app, "tibu" titanium backup is great and well worth app, buy it...I did and worth every dime. IMHO Tibu will and can backup your apps and restore them.
So I suggest get tibu, backup your apps, do a full wipe install Leg3 go back to Gplay download/install tibu back on, then use the program to restore your apps only in this case.
Plus tibu can do a full backup of your data & apps, say you find your DD but want to test other ROMs, use tibu to backup data & apps, go test the another ROM, and want to come back to your DD ROM, you can then do a full data & app restore...plus there are lots of YouTube vid on Titanium Backup app.

You can do the update and keep your files, which is the reason for the update. Though, like Bigjoe says, a full wipe is always prefered, but not necessary.

The reason why everyone suggests a full wipe is so that you dont potentially run into any problems after the flash. ie flash not working, or camera wont load... little things like that that make it hard to narrow down problems. One of the main things people are going to ask is did you wipe before you installed? It helps to eliminate and remnants of left over roms so that you dont have any issues with the new rom. Its called a Bad flash.
I hope i answered your question!
Thanks for all the replies! So whether it is the full wipe ROM or the update ROM, both go through the same procedure of booting into CWM first? I will try Tibu for app backup! :good:
Stuck at blue loading loop
Hey, I am new so bare with me, I just flashed this rom onto my Infuse 4g and it seems to be restarting itself and looping to the Blue Android/Dust loading screen. It seems to fix with a fresh install of the rom, but shortly starts after everything seems fine. Please help!

Try doing an odin or hemdall back to stock with partitioning, then flash the full wipe rom.

So I've been using your latest release (full wipe Legend v3) and I did factory reset, clear cache and dalvik cache, fixed permissions, etc. The phone is occasionally laggy now, usually when I open web browser it would stay on the white screen a several seconds. Sometimes, when I open my phone, it would stay on the black screen even though I never turned it off and it still has battery. So I had to long-press the button to restart. I've already rebooted and shut down numerous times but these problems still persist.
Also, bluetooth doesn't work for me. When I enable it from settings, the "Turn bluetooth on" checkbox stays unchecked and does nothing.
Should I reflash again? I did to a Titanium Backup to restore apps and settings... Any help is appreciated! Thanks.
turkish ?
i wonder if turkish is included or not ?

With any rom, you should be able to install More Locale 2 from the Play Store to get support for Turkish (and many other languages).

My bet is the tibu restore of your settings is what is causing the issues, I've had problems and have known others that had problems when restoring system settings with tibu, especially if the tibu backups were done on another rom.

I only started using tibu when I had Legend ICS v2 and then I immediately upgraded to v3 using the full wipe ROM. And then I restored all apps and settings. I'll try wipe and re-flash without restoring any settings in tibu. But honestly, I only wanted to backup my widget and screen settings (such as app shortcuts on home screens) but tibu didn't back that up.

I would try reflashing to stock, then reflashing the rom again, are you converting to ext4 at all or just using rfs?

I'm a noob so I don't know what those are. But I've only flashed ZEUS final and then Legend ICS v2 and v3. Full wiped and cleared cache on all those flashes.
I've reflashed to stock and then back to Legend 3 without restoring anything. It is all better now, very snappy. The bluetooth can be turned on now but for some reason, it doesn't detect my Jabra headset no matter how many times I scan. But it detects my Macbook Pro...

[Q] Wipe data and cache

I am getting desparate with my phone state SGS3, as funny things are happening like it suddenly goes crazy and opens apps after apps etc... Also applications that can not be traced, I am currently on 4.1.2 XXELL4 version, and I got advised to wipe data partition and cache, which as I understand it quite risky process of losing what I have, so do PLEASE inform is there a safe way, like you guys develop programs for us amateurs to do it automatically and safely, regaining our previous phone state?
My intention is to really get rid of junks I have on my phone and get a nice new obedient one I had before?
Thank you
You should make a backup of all apps and contacts ( for contacts you can sync with google) and then go into recovery mode and do wipe data factory reset and wipe cache partition. Finally do reboot system now and then reinstall the app backup and restore contacts.
I hope i help you and i wait for your news.
Hoping you have a recovery mode called cwm, and are aware of it,
You can wipe cache and data
It would get your phone back in state as if it were out of the manufacturer's factory!
All apps you've installed would be wiped out

Thank you so much for your reply, actually I do have CWM on my phone but when I run it is says it should be used with CF-CWM v1.1 or newer and that I am running different recovery and various features has been disabled, so I did not follow your advise yet, can you guide me in this matter also? the one I hace is CWM manger v3.60.
Further to that contacts I have backup but for the rest of my programs will Titanium Backup (not pro version) do for me to call back and restore all of it?
Waiting for you reply impatienly and thank you once more for your kindness

Also I tried to download the lates version of CWM from this site but it is ttf format and I was not able to install it. As I mentioned I wanted to install on the existing one, as when I unistall a program from my phone and try to install another one it says old version exists and does not install it.
Once more thank you and wishing you a very Merry Xmas and great New Year

Can you Please also consider my other questions and guide me accordingly, thank you and wishing you great New Year!
Use a higher version of cwm...I'm sure it would be floating around in xda
Also just do a factory reset from settings or flash a new rom that should solve the issue
And Use TB Pro ..(just a suggestion) much more useful and worth the price...That can restore app's data and app alone as you wish...

[Q] Hyperdrive rls13

As with most roms, it's ALWAYS a good idea to do a factory reset & wipe caches before installing. In fact, the dev recommends doing it 3x to ensure proper installation and minimal problems. I always wipe everything before installing a new release, but that's just me. You can use apps like "Titanium Backup" to backup your apps before you wipe if you don't wanna re-download everything. Btw, rls13 is AMAZING!

Com.google.process gapps has stopped ???

I keep getting this pop up on and off while using the tab. Have tried reflashing rom Aokp jb 5113 v.5, also v.4, reflashing latest gapps, still no luck.
I do no gaming, just basic tab stuff like internet, reading and video watching. Running stock Aokp without no rom tweaks or mods, basic debloat , no dpi tweaks. Tab is smooth and spappy in typical Aokp fashion. This was first and only custom rom installed on tab for over a year. I'm not a flash whore.
Including screen shot.

You, of course, did a full wipe before flashing again? And you did not try to restore any data or anything, right? Be sure you are using the right version of gapps. You should only be restoring apps and data from something like Titanium, avoid restoring system apps unless absolutely necessary.

Did full wipe data/cashe/dalvic . did not restore any data. and using latest gapps available from Aokp site, gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip, tried twice i still get popup.
other than popup tab works great.
Pp.:crying:
Just for the record, been running cm10 + with latest gapps so far so good. Apparently Aokp was the issue, it must have been something in the script because I had rewiped and reinstall several times and could not get rid of it.
