Legend 3 ICS Edition Update - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hi there. I currently am running the Legend 2 ICS Edition ROM for Infuse 4G. I just noticed there is a new update Legend 3 ICS. If I want to keep all my files and apps, do I just flash the Update file (instead of the Full Wipe file)? And do I need to go through the same process, clear cache, dalvik cache, etc.? Probably no need to wipe data and factory reset.
Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.

I suggest do a full wipe, if you want to keep your app, "tibu" titanium backup is great and well worth app, buy it...I did and worth every dime. IMHO Tibu will and can backup your apps and restore them.
So I suggest get tibu, backup your apps, do a full wipe install Leg3 go back to Gplay download/install tibu back on, then use the program to restore your apps only in this case.
Plus tibu can do a full backup of your data & apps, say you find your DD but want to test other ROMs, use tibu to backup data & apps, go test the another ROM, and want to come back to your DD ROM, you can then do a full data & app restore...plus there are lots of YouTube vid on Titanium Backup app.

You can do the update and keep your files, which is the reason for the update. Though, like Bigjoe says, a full wipe is always prefered, but not necessary.

The reason why everyone suggests a full wipe is so that you dont potentially run into any problems after the flash. ie flash not working, or camera wont load... little things like that that make it hard to narrow down problems. One of the main things people are going to ask is did you wipe before you installed? It helps to eliminate and remnants of left over roms so that you dont have any issues with the new rom. Its called a Bad flash.
I hope i answered your question!

Thanks for all the replies! So whether it is the full wipe ROM or the update ROM, both go through the same procedure of booting into CWM first? I will try Tibu for app backup! :good:

Stuck at blue loading loop
Hey, I am new so bare with me, I just flashed this rom onto my Infuse 4g and it seems to be restarting itself and looping to the Blue Android/Dust loading screen. It seems to fix with a fresh install of the rom, but shortly starts after everything seems fine. Please help!

Try doing an odin or hemdall back to stock with partitioning, then flash the full wipe rom.

So I've been using your latest release (full wipe Legend v3) and I did factory reset, clear cache and dalvik cache, fixed permissions, etc. The phone is occasionally laggy now, usually when I open web browser it would stay on the white screen a several seconds. Sometimes, when I open my phone, it would stay on the black screen even though I never turned it off and it still has battery. So I had to long-press the button to restart. I've already rebooted and shut down numerous times but these problems still persist.
Also, bluetooth doesn't work for me. When I enable it from settings, the "Turn bluetooth on" checkbox stays unchecked and does nothing.
Should I reflash again? I did to a Titanium Backup to restore apps and settings... Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

With any rom, you should be able to install More Locale 2 from the Play Store to get support for Turkish (and many other languages).

My bet is the tibu restore of your settings is what is causing the issues, I've had problems and have known others that had problems when restoring system settings with tibu, especially if the tibu backups were done on another rom.

I only started using tibu when I had Legend ICS v2 and then I immediately upgraded to v3 using the full wipe ROM. And then I restored all apps and settings. I'll try wipe and re-flash without restoring any settings in tibu. But honestly, I only wanted to backup my widget and screen settings (such as app shortcuts on home screens) but tibu didn't back that up.

I would try reflashing to stock, then reflashing the rom again, are you converting to ext4 at all or just using rfs?

I'm a noob so I don't know what those are. But I've only flashed ZEUS final and then Legend ICS v2 and v3. Full wiped and cleared cache on all those flashes.

I've reflashed to stock and then back to Legend 3 without restoring anything. It is all better now, very snappy. The bluetooth can be turned on now but for some reason, it doesn't detect my Jabra headset no matter how many times I scan. But it detects my Macbook Pro...

[Q]Home button not functioning

As posted in the gummy thread, I am experiencing my home button not functioning. Good news i narrowed it down. My roms are good and when fresh the home button operates normally. I have been up and down flashing left and right between GB and Froyo and the roms that overlay them. Titanium backup is the issue, or rather me backing up. yesterday I flashed to EE4 Eclipse pbj coming from GB NAMELESS Eclipse. I restored and that's where the problem showed. My dock went to just applications and none of my buttons worked except for holding power button. I booted to CWM and cleaned cache and wiped, i was left with a working fresh rom.... So now i have the same problem again when restored system i lost my home button, I filtered the restoration files too, only did contacts, mms and things along that line... My question what is the bad restore that i'm doing and how can i fix my current bad restore without losing everything?
thanks Jeff
I noticed that issue with earlier versions of nameless. perhaps it is something with that.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk
although currently i'm not running nameless maybe it autobackuped up part of the system when NAMELESS was on my device. Restoring must change a file that isn't compatible with other kernels. If only i could pinpoint the restoration file that does it and get a fake file to replace it
So randomly after 2 manual starts I lost all the launcher icons and no longer have a lock screen. This occurred after I installed a boot animation app. changed my logo, execpt I restarted once and everything was intact. The second restart was where problems arises. Tomorrow im wiping and restoring apps only. Thanks for the help nitro

Simple solution. Don't restore system data. Restoring system data can play havoc with your device when coming from and to different roms. Think about it, some of those system settings you are trying to restore might not even exist on another rom. Stick to restoring user apps, and select user app data, and then get practiced in redoing system settings after a wipe. You'll get used to it doing this over and over. It takes me only 20-30 minutes to go from completely wiped back to my usual setup.
Remember, when restoring data, less is more.
Yep thays what I was thinking. Purchased titanium pro now im back after factory reset not flash

Synergy Hangs

Been having some problems lately with my S3. It has been hanging when I either try to lock the phone or try to unlock it. It will freeze for a few seconds and then move. Sometimes it happens when I try to slide between home screens. I am on Synergy r23 without a kernal, could this be a problem? I want to update but I really don't want the hassle of backing up/restoring everything. Sometimes by just removing running applications, it frees from its slowness.

just use titanium backup ...they have tremendously changed this rom from what version your on including a overclockable kernel i update my phone once a week so i don't have to wipe everything everyday.. but putting the phone back the way you want will take you about 15 mins.lol

Dang those 15 minutes. If I want to update, I just do the backups, wipe data/cache and install it like I did for the original? I am not sure since this is my first time and I don't know what to do for nightlies.

Its a very easy process. you download the rom onto your phone ..somewhere where you know it will be in your sd card. go into cwm wipe data/factory rest, wipe cache, advanced, wipe dalvik, then install the new rom.. make sure you have unlocked your bootloader before doing this(THIS IS A SEPARATE PROCESS FROM ROOTING)

[Q] G2x stuck on hellfire sign after LG with blue splash

Hey guys, I don't think I did anything weird but anyway. After I get out of Wifi sometimes I have to reboot so the phone can use mobile data, I am on hellfire sandwich btw. So this morning I tried to reboot once I got to school but the phone sometimes freezes while rebooting and I have to take out the battery and same happened this morning. Took out the battery put it back in, started the phone and once it goes to the hellfire logo with orange thing going round and round, it stayed on that screen for about 30 minutes and i tried rebooting several times no luck. :crying: I could get to CWM recovery but is there anyway I can back up my files? I have some really important stuff also could you link me to a solution? Early thanks.
(1) try wiping cache and delvik cache in cwm and fix permissions, then reboot, if that doesn't work, (2) try making a nandroid backup, then wipe everything, then restore, if that doesn't work, (3) try flashing the same rom over your current one, if none of the above work, (4) try flashing a different kernel, or finally (5) try flashing the same rom over your current one.
One of these should work, if none of them do, then you're probably gonna have to wipe everything and flash the rom again, which will cause you to lose all your data.
Good luck
Also try deleting the tweak script in system/etc/init.d use my tool and launch AROMA File Manager, use menu button to select to mount system and data (partitions), then navigate to the folder and delete the one script.

Yeah I think flashing the same rom will solve the problem but one more question, If I just want to flash the same rom do I just delete delvik cache and cache? also will that make me lose data such as like how far I got in angry bird or my pictures or phone numbers? or what does deleting cache and delvik cache delete?

No you won't lose any of the things you mentioned above. It will however reinstall any system apps that you uninstalled. But just to be safe, make a nandroid backup

[Q] BlackBean (BAKED) ROM - apps stopping

I wanted to post this in the BAKED thread in the developer section but I don't have enough poststo do it there, so hopefully someone here can help.
I just flashed crespo BlackBean 7 (BAKED) ROM (on my Nexus S) and inverted gapps. It seems to have installed properly but whenever I reboot I get a message that several processes have stopped such as YouTube and GMail, and when I go in to system settings -> storage I get a message saying "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped". I get that message every time consistently. I've tried re-flashing the ROM but to no avail. When I installed the ROM I wiped "Dalvik cache", wiped "Battery Stats" and wiped "Cache partition".
It appears I've not done something or done something wrong, so if anyone here can help I'd appreciate it.
Did you full wipe before installing the rom? That means factory reset/data wipe.

I did not do a factory wipe because the last time I did that I lost everything, even after using Titanium backup to back up all my apps first. When I tried to restore there was nothing there to restore. Is there a way to use Titanium backup so that after doing a full wipe I can still get my stuff back?

So I bit the bullet and did a full factory wipe, but I still get the "Unfortunately settings has stopped" error showing up. I wonder if it's a bug in the ROM.

Storage settings fc is a bug in the ROM. It will be fixed in the next version. You should not get fc for any other settings. Back to kill is faster than normal. Everything else works fine on bb7.

Thank you!
I saw the back to kill thing, someone else had mentioned it on the BAKED thread too. Thanks for the info on the fc.
I got another problem though, that made me revert to my previous ROM. I was about to put my phone away for the night and decided to do one more reboot, but it never went past the BAKED splash screen. Even after pulling the battery it wouldn't boot. Is this a known bug too? Or did something happen to my machine? After booting to recovery and re-installing my previous ROM, everything seems to be fine.
Any thoughts?

There isn't any boot issue with the ROM. If you decide to try this ROM again, try to do a clean install.
Boot into recovery, do a factory wipe, go to advanced & wipe dalvik cache, go to mounts & format /systems. Flash ROM & gapps, reboot.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 11 on 19305t

I have a Galaxy s3 i9305t (australian version) with cyanogenmod 10.1 installed on it. I see there is now CM 11 for the i9305. My question is, can I install the later version "over the top" of my existing version without selecting wipe data / factory reset so I can keep my apps and settings as they are now or would it be better to wipe data / factory reset before I started and put my apps back on after?
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

There should be an option within the ROM for installing updates if I remember CM correctly, however I would always recommend backing any data up with a nandroid backup. Apps should also be backed up using titanium backup and any other data via windows transfer before any upgrade.
Also when changing versions of ROMs eg CM10 to CM11 I would suggest using the advice above, then wipe data /factory reset and cache wipe before installing the ROM to prevent bugs and issues as I have always had issues when not wiping but the good news is you can restore your apps from the titanium backup
Thanks

No problem, hope it works
Sorry for late reply. Nope still didnt work. I have tried it numerous times and even downloaded the file again in case something was wrong with my download. Each time I try to install it fails. I have got 10.1.3 up and running again, so I think I will stick with that as it is working very well. Thank you very muck for your help and suggestions.
