Serious lag
Why is cm11 lagging so bad, dialer hangs like crazy. Been updating(not clean wipe install) for months now could that be the culprit?

idk as im not on it but clean install is usually where to start
Hi,
I recently installed CM11 on my skyrocket, and now the g sensor calibration is off, with no option to calibrate. Is there a way to calibrate on kitkat Rom?

Try changing your governor. I use performance because I don't think interactive is working right almost always stays at lowest CPU speed. I've tried tweaking the parameters on interactive but didn't seem to help. Granted I'm no expert
Also keep an eye on ram. I'm regularly maxing out and trying to keep things closed. No lags coming back so far.

is it safe to force it into performance all the time, I would think that would mess with the battery life pretty bad
not to mention shortening the live of the processor....
I don't see any issue in performance. Battery life is negligible since I have to charge once a day anyway. The theory in performance (granted I don't know if I even really buy it) is that the phone goes back to deep sleep faster when using the performance governor. The battery life is probably only sacked if you have a lot of off screen activity that would not otherwise need performance. If someone knows how the values to tweak to get interactive to work better I would try it out. I've played with various values but really don't see it shifting.
So many Questions, so little time.
Is this device abandoned? It seems like the nightlies are slowing down. Is it a good time to move to another device? Is Cm12 coming to skyrocket?
There's an unofficial cm 12 available now. I'm using it! It's not perfect but it's very good. Sultanxda is the developer and he is updating it on a regular basis.
Hi, I don't know if this is the appropriate place to be posting this, but here goes:
I am currently running the CM 11 nightly 20150510 on an i727r. I've been having problems with my mic for the longest time (I will try calling other on VoIP and they wouldn't be able to hear me and vice versa, or I would pick up a VoIP call and I can hear them but they wouldn't be able to hear me), and it's come to a point where I need the call function.
I understand that if I flash the CM 12 custom rom, there seems to be an audio fix in place (correct me if I'm wrong about this); however, I am also in the middle of a 4 week exam period, AND I'm based in a different country, so I don't want to replace my current ROM with the stock firmware (which would unroot my phone and re-lock the SIM carrier), and at the moment, I don't have time to figure out how to switch over while keeping my notes, calendars, schedules, contacts, etc. intact.
I saw the audio _update zip that @bryan2894 has posted. I was wondering; can I take a shortcut, and just replace these files in the device folders with the updates from the zip?

First question - Are there lock screen notifications for text messages, e-mails, etc.? I haven't been able to find them if there are.
Second question - Is there a way to stop getting VZWNMN messages after flashing to CM10 without blocking the number. So in other words, is there a fix for this?
Third question - Is there an official page with bugs noted by CM themselves? Rather than scrolling through threads reading what everyone else is saying.
Fourth - Haven't really been able to try it out much yet, but how is the battery life on CM10? I only have it rooted and on CM10 which means I have no special apps, kernels, whatever else installed. Is there anything recommended to install with CM10 besides GAPPS?
Hope someone can answer these questions!
1. Not that I have seen without third party app. But with slide being my only security setting I am able to utilize the notification pull down
2. There was a thread in the q/a section yesterday regarding this and you have to go to a Verizon based Web Page and change a setting (don't remember the exact details) and they should stop
3. I have not seen a "bug" list per say... But then again I haven't exactly searched for one either... Sorry I cannot answer this one
And I only flash rom gapps and kernel and then install my apps etc. Nothing else special
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901508 this should help with your second question. Sorry I didn't have the link handy with my first reply.
Re battery life, CM seems to give me lesser battery life than stock ROM. I ran stock for a couple of weeks, and with moderate to heavy usage (lots of playing with new phone, browsing, changing settings etc), I'd still have about 25pct left at bed time. Now, it's about to turn off around the same time.
I had Galaxy Nexus before this, and a Captivate before that, and had CM on both of them, and wouldn't always make it to the end of the day. S3 is better than both of those.
when I used cm10, the battery life was somewhat less than stock. I'm running Beans rom now and battery life is very good. Better than stock.
I have to say that i'm considering going back to CM10. Both rom's are smooth and fast. Everything works in Beans for the most, making it a daily for a lot of people.
On Bean's R9 and R11 with imoseyon's LK 0.5 I was getting 4.5 hours of screen on time. On 9/23 nightly, I'm getting 4 hours of screen on time. I can tolerate that difference as I prefer AOSP based roms.

Help with audio using CM10
I'm on the current nightly builds. This happens on all the builds I've used. At times, seems random to me, the phone will say 'audio' or 'resuming audio'. I've had this happen even when set to silent mode. Any ideas????????????
thanks,
Elliott
I am running [ROM][4.0.4] Slim ICS(T959V)-UNOFFICIAL posted by beastmode, Question is there a more updated kernel I could use with it ?
I am thinking either [KERNEL]Proton Kernel build2[ICS][TFQ] or [Kernel]ICS/CM9 LZ Kernel from Team Fah-Q (Updated 20OCT12)
I am very happy with this ROM and GPS is working great (after a few hacks from other threads) but battery life is the worst !!! I lose 5% when using Waze/GPS plugged into the car charger and about 20% overnight just sitting there, I have tried all sorts of battery apps as well as turning off wifi at night with no luck. So I am thinking that a new kernal would help.
I only use the phone for GPS and Web browsing.
Has anyone used these kernels and with what ROMS ?
Interesting in upgrading not bricking my phone and installing everything from scratch
yes i am a newbie so apologies in advance ! Thanks.
Neither of those kernels (nor, really, anything else) is going to make Waze or any other GPS app stop using as much power as they do. If you wanted to change your scheduler and governor, those might make a difference... but anything with working GPS is a Herring kernels using the same paths to talk to the GPS.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. Even if GPS is a battery sucker what can I do about the fact that leaving the phone on takes so much battery ?
Could you suggest other stable kernel/ROMS for the SGH-T959V that support GPS and have decent battery life ? I like the simplicity of ICS and since all I do with this phone is browse the web and use GPS I really don't need any bells and whistles.
Thanks.
The two best ICS at the moment are probably Ultragen 1.01 (be sure NOT to use 1.00) or HebMIUI, which is the only ICS that still gets irregular updates.
The big thing to do with Waze is, if you don't NEED to stare at the screen, turn it off and just listen to the audio directions. Sucks down a LOT less battery that way, though it's still a bit painful.
Regarding general ways of improving battery life... look into Greenify if you haven't yet. Can tell apps to stop running in the background if you don't actually want them to. Just remember NOT to Greenify Waze if you don't want it to shut down with the screen off, or your music app, or anything else you actually want to use while you're not actively looking at it. Oh, and avoid Greenifying your email too. Though it's funny, it's not a good way to find out about new messages.

Hey guys. I have a VZW Galaxy SIII, as you know, and the battery life has been quite bad for the longest time. Any suggestions as to what kernel I should use? I'm currently running CM10.1.3, but I plan on updating to KitKang (Unofficial 4.4). Thanks!
This guys kernel is pretty good, i can get a full 8 hours or better depending on the type of usage.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1853816
Also you should go grab better battery stats. The developer posts a free version here on Xda. Use the app to test for wakelocks

Since we're suggesting apps Greenify works pretty good for me. Probably got me a couple more hours. It kind of works like Titanium Backup's freeze option. You choose what you want to greenify and it "freezes" them until you start them yourself. Then puts them back to sleep when you exit.
Don't know if you look but there's a ton of crap running that doesn't need to be all the time. Reminds me of msconfig.

"best" in roms and kernels is dependent on a variety of factors...to include settings and signal amongst other things.. Please take a look and try them all to determine what it is you need.

Call quality and battery life
Thank you for making the SuperLiteRom. I've had a couple of issues with it. The call volume is very quiet, to the point that I have to use speakerphone to hear anyone. Also, I don't remember battery life being so terrible with stock 4.4.2. Even with the same apps that i'm using now.
Has anyone else had these issues?

I wiped the device, did a clean OS install from Odin with NE1. Flashed SuperliteRom over the stock rom slot. Still very quiet audio. I don't know what went wrong.

Is it ok with stock rom? You are the only one who have this issue!
Maybe your device speaker need some clean.
Thanks and Issues
just want to say thank you to mohammad.afaneh for making this superlite ROM. at first i also noticed more battery drainage than usual. i did some reading in the main thread and put the ROM in the stock slot. i ran a battery calibration app and i didnt really see a difference with drainage so i decided to buy a new battery, as mine was around a year old. bought a 7200mAh from amazon. i get at least 3 days on a full charge. idk if the battery calibration app helped with the new battery but it is nice having a few days of charge with moderate to heavy usage. keep up the good work!

Issues with SuperLiteRom on VZW Galaxy S3
Thanks for throwing this guide together! I was able to get this set up correctly.
However, like others, I am having 2 major issues.
Battery is draining incredibly fast. I initially installed on Slot1, but reinstalled on the Stock slot after experiencing poor battery life. It is still dying at an alarming rate (33% in an hour with minimal use). Very unfortunate because I thought this may help my phone's performance by removing bloatware, but something is running strong in the background. Like others, I see Android system using the most power.
Videos lag. Youtube, recorded videos, everything I try to watch freezes and stutters.
Please let me know if anyone has found a solution for these items. I was excited to get ride of the Verizon bloat, but it feels like this was a big mistake. Without solutions to these issues, I don't think this process should be recommended to users seeking to improve their phone experience. At least the disclaimer should be updated.
Its unfortunate now because I'm not sure how to get back to the way I was, now that I overwrote the stock OS.
*edit* Adding shot of the Android system that seems to be draining the most battery here (added a space because I'm not allowed to post links) imgur. com/a/Qk7LS
For those who have installed this rom on the stock rom slot. By doing this it seems to somewhat increase battery life vs a different slot... the known issue. But by putting the new rom in the "stock" location, does that no longer allow you to flash back to stock? In other words locked in this rom. I am finally taking the plunge to put a rom on mine but am becoming more hesitant for the battery issues described here. How bad is it also?
I'm use to my bionic and that safestrap version where I could toggle roms all day long if wanted.

First, you still able to flash back factory stock rom even you used the stock slot location. You must uninstall safestrap first. Currently I'm using litrom and my battery is pretty good. Here how I flashed mine. Installed safestrap, boot to safestrap, wipe cache/davik cache/system, then flash superliterom, once boot up install glowing battery saver, set this on extreme mode and you should be set. Let it run for at least 2 days and you should see the battery is pretty good. If I don't touch my phone, the drain rate is 9+ hrs for 10%. I can't compare screen on time because it depended mainly on each individual using their phone, like if you watch movies or only making phone calls it would sucks less power than if you surfing the internet (not reading articles) or playing games.
Launchers for SUPERLITEROM
1) I love this nimble ROM. Thanks, again.
2) I've flashed to Stock ROM slot. WiFi is muuuch better, but still a little unstable.
3) Does anyone have a favorite launcher that will work with this? Running KK 4.4.2 (I've got Go Launcher EX, which is cool, but the counter stinks.)
4) Is there a recommended replacement for S-voice? I was getting used to that weird android Galaxy lady finding stuff for me while I was driving.
Thanks!

Without a doubt I'd say nova launcher, I've had it for well over two years with nova prime and it's quick and simple yet customizable. I've tried nearly every launcher including go launcher which was my first launcher I used on my old thunderbolt.
Best bet is S Voice, you can use google now also which is a good alternative

Still the same. Maybe data wiping need to make from Recovery not Safestrap?
Hey guys, was wondering if there was an app I could use to control the CPU speed and cores of my galaxy s5. Any app I use seems to reset itself upon exit, and I have not been able to get clock speeds to stick once, despite forcing it to set on boot. Any help would be appreciated, I keep losing close to 1% every minute of usage. Thanks.

There are a lot of factors involved in the Battery of your device. Keep in mind that not all devices act the same. Also the way you use your device. What apps you have. Cell reception. How often you check your Email. How often your apps sync. These are just some of the factors involved in how long your battery will last on any given charge. With that in mind, yes, you can increase the Battery life on your device. Are you Rooted ? What Rom ? What Kernel ? Which Android version are you on currently ? What Recovery are you using ? I know these sound like a lot of questions. But it's much easier to help you with more information.
Lastly this really should be posted in the Q/A section. It will get faster responses there.

I'm on aosp lollipop, I use greenify for my apps, keep app count to minimum. I know what can be done to manage battery, but all I really need is an app, or method to manually control the CPU of this phone. Like I said, any way I try doesn't allow CPU speeds I choose to stick.
I'm not familiar with AOSP, but are you using a kernel that supports changing the cpu speeds?
