Spigen Tough Armor and Slim Armor Cover Microphone - Galaxy Note 4 Accessories

Edit: It is confirmed that Verizon Note 4 does have a 3mm difference in the location of the mic holes which in most cases will cover the speaker hole.
I just got my note 4 and noticed that the Spigen Tough Armor and Slim Armor both cover one of the microphone ports on the bottom of phone.
Is this just bad luck or are they being produced this way?
Maybe its just a verizon thing?

Well well, check this out....
This is a shot of the in house Samsung made "Protective cover".... why make the one port oblong unless it needed to fit various makes of the same phone with different port locations?
I think it IS a Verizon thing!
I had the neo hybrid (just sold it and shipped it today, so sorry, no pics) n once i heard the very first reports of muffled speaker use in the accessories section, I asked my wife how it sounded to her.... no complaints. I think they lined up fine on the tmobile version cause my hole fits in this Samsung oblong port close to the inside edge(closest the charging port) whereas I'm certain that a Verizon phone would be justified to the outside based on the pics above.

Mine is the same way. Not Cool. Verizon phone.

My slim armor arrives tomorrow or Monday. Can't wait to try it.

....what carrier are you with?
I have a feeling most cases are designed for cdma phones like tmobile and at&t...
I think Verizon and Sprint prob have a different arrangement due to slightly different internals....

Both mic holes on my Sprint variant align perfectly with my ToughArmor's cutouts; it is indeed most likely a Verizon modification from the reference model.
Looking at the first photo, it's clear to see that the Right hole is further from the center axis than the Left.

My Neo-Hybrid does it as well.

same here
i have verizon and neo-hybrid. I emailed support yesterday, haven't heard anything.
anyone got theirs replaced? or made contact for replacement?

I've also emailed and haven't heard back. They are saying that I have to pay shipping to return it.

I just did a return through Amazon pretty painless. But now I don't know which case would actually work well that I actually like.

sounds like spigen, CS sucks

im thinking of using a dremel to widen the holes. I really like this case, not sure if other cases have same issue with verizon note 4.

That was my plan but I kind of just want a return but then to find out something else doesnt fit.
I mean its only a small tiny hole. How bad could I mess up lol.

Okay so I took so super up close macro shots with my Canon 60mm and here are the pictures. Ordering from top to bottom: Ultra hybrid, Tough Armor, Slim Armor, Neo Hybrid. The Ultra Hybrid was on an AT&T white Note 4 and the other three were on a Black Tmobile Note 4. Seems like there's not really an issue with the tmobile or at&t versions. I also checked sound quality and there didn't seem to be an issue. I'm guessing that maybe Verizon versions perhaps maybe have a different placement or something.

I checked my Tough Armor and the mic holes align. One thing I noticed is that I have to speak directly at the mic holes to get "OK Google" to respond. Doesn't work if I speak while looking at the screen.

made my own holes using dremel....not the best, but it works great.

Not limited to VZW
Unfortunately, it affects the US Cellular variant, as well (Neo Hybrid case). I'm surprised that it's not a problem for Sprint as well; would have guessed it was CDMA vs. GSM variants, but I guess not. Sucks, because it's a great case otherwise. Haven't actually heard back from Spigen's CS yet...

I've got an O2 UK Note 4 and my slim armor fits perfectly, almost definitely sounds like a variant problem. Was just looking for a thread to say how good this case was, scared me to death reading this

Video Review: Case-mate Tough for HTC One X

Hey guys,
I usually post my reviews on the Galaxy Nexus forums but I've recently gotten my hands on the One X, so I'll be bringing some case reviews in the coming weeks. Today I got my hands on the Tough, from Case-Mate. This is a two piece hybrid case that looks to provide good protection, for users who are prone to dropping their devices.
You can find the full video review below:
Great review. By any chance do you know if this case will fit the USA (LTE) version?

As far as I know, there is no physical difference between the two models other than the placement of the Pogo Pins. Also, according to Case-mate, it will fit both models.
Thanks for watching!

This is not true. As it's been shown and proven in some of the other threads in this section, there is a .4mm length difference, and yes, .4mm does make a difference. Ask those who have gotten their cases and are now returning them because it does not fit correctly.

I'll take your word for it. I've bought some AT&T cases and they fit just fine on my Int. Model.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Don't have to take my word for it. You can see it in the pictures I provided.
Mind you, these are "Itnl. sized cases" on a longer AT&T device. An AT&T longer case, would fit a Intl' version fine as it can "settle" into the right spot, where the camera is concerned and have a nearly unnoticeable excess at the bottom. Unfortunately this does not work the other way around as you can see in the pics.
Could you check gps reception with and without the case.?
On my inspire the casemate tough would almost block the gps signal..

Just checked that for you - working fine for me. Turned GPS off with case off, then pinned my location. Did the same with the case on and it took roughly the same amount of time to find my location.
Very weird that you experienced that on your Inspire.

Hard to tell why but I've heard others say similar things (albeit with other devices). Most likely it has something to do with GPS placement on the device. Like I said, nothing to worry on here, so if you like the case - go for it!
So has anyone else put one of these on the att version? How's it fit? I know one person said it.fits too tight.

yeah, the case-mate one is made more for the international version. i'm going to be contacting case-mate to see if they're going to be making one for our model. i'd really like a case-mate on mine but i'm not going to buy something that's not actually made for our devices.
edit: done. hopefully they get back to me before the end of the week with some kind of response. i really love the Tough Case. it served me very well for my international Samsung Galaxy SII
I called case-mate about the tough case and the lady told me that they worked with AT&T to make sure the tough case would fit. LOL I almost laughed at her seeing as mine doesn't really fit good at all. Too tight.

KLD Product Info said the Case is made by thin cast aluminum (Photo ~ Line B),
Can you please check out for us if it's true...?
I guess Wireless Charging & NFC Signal will be blocked by the aluminum.
How do you like the fitting?
Will it scratch the phone when install, take out..?
Thanks...!

This would make me assume NFC will not work if it is lined with aluminum.

I heard the buttons are hard to access with the nillken case. Could you please tell us how does it feels with this one?
I am currently looking for a flip case too, and the best up to now seemed to be the nillken, even with that flaw, so if this one do not have the same flaw, I guess I have a winner

I think this is the best feature of the Google bumper. It incorporates keypressers so pressing the buttons is not as difficult as cases that have simple cutouts. Would love to see a flip case with buttons similar to the stock bumper.
So, elty123, 10 days since you started this thread. Have you already received your order? We want some insights!
Does anyone have this case yet? I'm thinking of getting the pink one, not many femine covers out for this phone yet.
Still waiting for this case. Not sure if this will work from wireless charger, but my HP Touchpad works with the Touchstone even with a case on. This should be similar I guess.
Finally got the red case. build quality is pretty good, and it is nice to touch. However, it doesn't really look like leather - more like.texture plastic. I think It would look better if it is not a bright peachy red.
I don't know if there is a thin cast aluminum inside, however the cover is pretty sturdy. It also doesn't seems to lower reception strength when the case is opened. I have no wireless charger to test.

What can you say about the cuts to access the buttons? I heard they are quite narrow in the Nilkin case, making it a bit hard to press them.
And this is the first flip cover I use, and sometimes the cover doesn't close completely.... is it a problem for other flip cover?

Yep, pretty common.
The cut is not very clean (some residual plastic). Pressing the power is ok but the volume is a bit harder, probably because of the spine.
The texture of the cover is the same as the picture... just that it is a bit more shiny than I thought.
Also closing the cover seems to reduce signal strength by a few dBm. I can't really tell because the signal strength fluctuate a lot here, even without any case.
I ordered this case because it looks realllllly nice. I chose this over the nillkin because I wanted it in brown.

What cases actually fit the microphone on the Verizon model.

Since there are discussions on cases that do not work because of the microphone opening on the Verizon model not lining up, I thought we need a thread on cases that actually do work.
Has anyone found any cases that does not cover one of the microphone openings on the bottom?
I want to get a replacement for the Spigen Ultra Hybrid for just this reason.
Just a wild guess but I bet the cases Verizon is selling directly have the proper alignment (no idea though, can't check)? Why would they move the mic hole? I'm guessing to upsell their cases to you? "Oh well, these are the only cases that fit the phone properly, would you like to purchase for $40 now?".
The second another carrier (T-Mobile probably) get's coverage similar to VZW, I'm gone. I can't stand this constant messing around with the phones. Leave the **** alone Verizon, it's going to come back around to you.
The Supcase fits, they designed it with the different position of the mic in mind.
As I pointed out in the other thread, the Samsung protective cover works.
I'm thinking that other than that, your best bet is in store cases...
Yet another reason I'm happy to not be a Verizon customer.
I wouldn't purchase any third party cases without contacting the manufacturer first and ensuring the Mic placement on their case is open the exact mm away from the edge of the charging port.
This case might work, i ordered it for my tmobile note 4 but when i received it one of the mic holes was off.http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NB3AFM6/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_kX3sub1MRVEWY

Picked up the Incipio DualPro from a Verizon store tonight. The left side mic hole is elongated/bigger to accommodate the Verizon mic position. It it not covered by the case and works perfectly. The case is simiar to the Otterbox Commuter(2 piece case) but is a but thinner.
I get that incipio case delivered tomorrow, glad to hear it fits. I love the soft texture of the incipio case. I've used that same one on my last 3 phones and it's always protected my phones great.

[Q] Metal trim like the N4?

I'm trying to figure out if the Edge will have metal trim around the sides like the N4 or plastic like everything else before it...
Anyone know?
It has a metal trim , it has been confirmed by numerous sources .

Thanks, mate... I fingered an Edge last night at a Samsung kiosk. The phones were all warm so I couldn't feel cool metal. Asked the Samsung rep and he didn't know. In fact, he whipped out his phone and googled up a story on android authority that said it was plastic.

i have the N4 right now and planning to get the Edge (give wife the n4). However, i am not liking this metal business as it scratches (hairline and small knicks) FAR easier than the plastic used in note 1,2, and 3. I have not even dropped the n4 and it has a bunch of hairline scratches. I used the note 3 for 9 months and it was pristine. ARGH!

Unfortunately scratches on the metal trim are somehow unavoidable, especially with some tight fit cases like UAG.

best tpu case?

Any input on the best tpu case for the note 4... specifically the verizon note if it makes any difference.
I have the obliq. Tpu. Case it's great good grip on the side solid lip around display and not problem with mic. Holes it goes for about 8 bucks on Amazon
i have read that one of the verizon mics is moved slightly to the side than the other models. so one of the mics will be covered up if it wasn't designed for verizon version. i would make sure any case you buy says it will work on verizon model. i just got a 8 dollar case off ebay when i picked up my note 4. mine is a sprint variant. i am pretty happy with it for the price

i have read that one of the verizon mics is moved slightly to the side than the other models. so one of the mics will be covered up if it wasn't designed for verizon version. i would make sure any case you buy says it will work on verizon model. i just got a 8 dollar case off ebay when i picked up my note 4. mine is a sprint variant. i am pretty happy with it for the price

Nice looking case. How is the side grip when cold? For example, the Samsung protective case plus and Verus Thor get harder, uncomfortable and have less grip when cold but have very good fit, everywhere. Do you have any other cases to compare it to? Could you post some pictures showing the USB port, mics, and headphone jacks, please? And one more close-up on the bezel lip.
TIA.
haven't noticed a difference when the temp changes. we have had a few days in the 30's around here this week and don't notice any difference. it's only been on the phone 3 or 4 days. i just got it in the mail. still waiting on my glass screen protector to get in but i don't imagine it will be a problem
pics arent all that great because i was using the wifes old iphone 4

Thanks. The pictures are fine except that I can't tell if the white outer rim is soft TPU or a harder compound like a polycarbonate?
Also, how would you describe the grip of the sides and back shell?
TIA.
If you want full TPU, the Diztronic is the best game in town. If you want something with a lot more style and great fit, the Samsung protective cover should be given a look.

Grip is ok. I would think there are better cases for that. I wouldnt really say its bad or great but just ok. The black is more a firm rubber feel and the white is a hard plastic feeling material. The edges catch some of the black softer material when u grip it which helps a little. For the price i would say definately worth the money. I swap phones like crazy so i cant see paying more than 30 for a case when i will prob be rocking something else in 6 months or so.
I use the tech21 impactology case. I've dropped my phone 4 or 5 times (slips out of pockets when getting out of my car) and no marks or damage at all. I bought mine from Verizon so a little more expensive, but didn't want to deal with the mic hole issue
I have the spigen capsule, great case and I can even get the note 4 into it with the wireless charging battery cover on. Admittedly its a bit of a squeeze and using the heart rate monitor is a no-go
I just got the Samsung official protective case. I love it. I have a diztronic as well, and it's great, but damn this samsung one is thinner, makes the phone feel overall better and the buttons aren't as easy to push as the diztronic. it's a great case!

Diztronic for sure

This case is the best TPU case hands down. I have the diztronic and uag case and this case wins it for me. Def check it out.
I'm waiting for this to arrive

If it sucks, I'm gonna get the diztronic.
The Samsung case is the best case I own, but I don't consider it a true TPU case due to the textured back. As for the best 100% TPU case, that title goes to the Diztronic, which I also own.
