Hi all,
this is general, and I hope it is ok. I would like to take this opportunity to invite some folks over to another PDA forum site. I need mods and suggestions for forums and content. My goal is also to host downloads for ROMS and Kitchens. the site is: cookedpda.com/forums
I also plan on promoting this site and a few others there as well.
thanks for listening, and please stop by.
i just updated it. i think it has quite a diverse group of forums. only one member for now though. it is my hope that some of you all can turn it into another successful site. thanks!
hi there,
kudos to you for creating a site to try and give something back to the community.
my only thought is that xda-developers pretty much has everything you'll ever need rom/kitchen based and a massive community behind it.
also you didnt include a clickable url in your post which is probably why you only have one member
wish you luck with your forum
I would like to help out with the Cyanogen 7.2 port to the Wildfire S but I can't post in the DEV forums even with 11 posts.
Am I being impatient or do I have more hurdles to hop just so I can be of use to the community?
I know I'm new here, and yes I read the reasoning for the 10 post rule, but it's silly and it's quite frustrating to somebody who not only understands how to read forum rules and etiquette, but also could be helping out with a great project but I'm held back because I must be a "noob"
BTW I know you mods think this isn't true but it really does force new users to have to "spam" in some way shape or form just to be able to help out in the developer forums. I didn't go around posting a bunch of useless junk but my posts would have been more useful and well thought out if they weren't aimed more or less as gaining my 10 count of posts.
/end_rant
I agree. I'm in same situation and think this 10 post rule is really frustrating.
This is my first "spam" post
I believe that a moderator has to go over your posts, make sure they are valid and not spam (by spam I mean real spam, against forum rules, or just saying that you need ten posts) and then they'll move you from junior member to just "member", allowing you to post in development forums. They do this on a schedule, if I have read correctly. All of your posts seem legit, and you've helped out, so just wait it out.
In the meantime you can pm whoever you need to reach if it's applicable in your case. Good luck, and welcome to the forums!

A user needs 30 posts to become a "member".
Regardless, the solution is still acceptable since cases such as yourself are rare. Happy XDAing however.
Has anyone ever noticed only people with less than 10 posts complain about this rule? You never see people that were stuck by this rule a few weeks ago say how it sucked, and was unfair.
You will see a lot of people with 100+ posts say that 10 posts isn't enough, but you never see anyone with more than 15 posts complain. I always found that interesting. Once people get over the hurdle, they start to feel less a n00b and notice all the n00bs that are so ignorant, and impatient, something they never were.
I agree with the rule, once you have some posts down, and get a feel for how these forums work you realize the rule is far from exorbitant. I think at about 25 posts people discover there is a search button, and at 50 posts they realize that most threads have more than one page, and there is actual useful content between post one and the last post.
If it were up to me it would be 20 posts, AND 30 days before you could open a new thread in a non-dev section, and 100+ posts before you can start a thread in a dev section. To post a reply to an open dev thread with 10 posts seems low, but acceptable.

That's almost exactly what I wanted to say , but I didn't want to lecture .

Thanks for the lecture.
Granted there are, and always will be, people with far less than even half a brain. Far more are just plain lazy and don't know how to search google. People also like to break rules, or just not read / follow them in the first place, I know what you're saying.
The frustrating part is that I've actually spent many many hours on these forums, just never had anything to contribute - I know the ropes, I get the gist of what is going on and where posts belong / where they dont but I found it annoying nontheless.
Anyway I'm not here, as a new member, trying to change any rules - I was more or less wondering what else I had to do, and somebody kindly answered my question for me above so I thank you for that.

It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it.
I wasn't trying to lecture, just respond to one rant with a rant of my own. It wasn't directed at the OP. He wasn't the first to gripe about this rule, and he won't be the last (even this week probably). That was my point, its a constant issue, but an issue that is always dropped as soon as the person hits the hurdle. If its such an unfair rule, why are there no advocates of repealing it (with more than 15 posts at the time)?
I agree with the OP, as I am in the same situation myself. I have spent weeks reading xda-dev posts, rooted my new Nook Tablets, learned from the experience and would like to contributed my experience and collaborate with other members. But due to this rule, I am forced to spend time on other topics, for which I am making less of a contribution to the community.
Regarding the reason why people with 100+ posts are not complaining about this rule... well, I think that is obvious -- they are now (hopefully) contributing to the community and do not want to waste their effort complaining. Otherwise people like myself and the OP could likely give-up out of frustration before ever finding enough less constructive posts to make. In these cases we all lose. We continue to make progress on our own (sometimes "re-inventing the wheel") but we could all be more productive together.
Preaching to the Choir here, but yeah, I'm commenting here because in other threads where I'd like to respond to a reply to a post I made, I can't.
What is odd is that I was able to post in Development threads at first and then couldn't.
Either way, walking the path because I am forced to...
Cheers
Even I've made 11 and can't post in the development thread I want. There's a great CM 12 Rom thread I need to post urgently and still can't post although I got 11. Really frustrated!

Some developers have put limits on which ranks of users are able to post in their threads. As of right now, you should be able to post in any thread on XDA, so that thread's OP may have set a rank limit, or perhaps it's a bug.
Let me know.

Yup I can post now. It seems all I needed to do was wait for an hour or so. I logged in after an hour and yay!
I understand the principle of the 10-post limit before I can post in a developer thread, but it means i have to post meaningless things in other areas just to get my post numbers up.
Thoughts?
No. That's NOT what you do. Post useful posts, not meaningless posts. If you post crap they'll just get deleted

Yes, the rule is very understandable. Since you know about Android you can easily look through threads and help some newbies out

I just went to the "General" and "Q&A" type forums here and for the devices I have and answered simple questions - so simple even a total n00b like me could say something useful !
To all the noobs, what makes you so special to where you will be exempt from the rules. Consider it a right of passage. If I had to endure, so shall you. Its not hard;to make ten HELPFUL posts. Stop copping out that's its an inconvenience and just do it!!
besides there are a lot of people asking questions that can benefit from your inputs in the general section

It's actually an incredibly stupid rule, just like the noob video on account creation. Assumes that everyone who browses the forums are brainless script kiddies and leechers, rather than those who came from other websites and development communities.
But we're thankful that it's only a 10 post limit, I suppose.
There has Been more than a thousand threads of this kind.
Instead of just fuming over the rule and wasting time, make use of it and be useful to others and get the 10 post count.
Reporting......
And BTW have a look at this thread if you are eager to post in dev forum.
LIFE! Enjoy it while you Still have it!

This topic has been discussed at length numerous times in many threads. There's really no need for another one.
Hey guys just starting up a thread to get my post count up so i can reply on the dev forms. This however is still something i am extremely excited and curious about. The SEIDIO OBEX!
A few questions. First, does anybody know an expected release date?
Second, had anybody had a previous version of the obex? Please give me the rundown, worth the money, does it work as it says, is it heavy and bulky. thanks for any information.
A little off topic but it's probably a bad idea to have your Gmail account as your user name. That is unless you love your email to be spammed. Just saying.
Isn't it already available on their website tho?

Crap i didnt even notice it did that. do you know how i can change to just a username not my email?
Last i checked they only had them for the S3 but i will have to go look now. Either way though do you have any experience with them? do they perform as well as they are supposed to?
These kind of threads clutter up the forum and make it difficult for searchers. The OBEX has already been released for a while now and there are at least 2 threads in this sub forum about it that include detailed reviews and videos. A simple search will bring up the threads for you or you can go to Seidio's website for more information.

Message a moderator. They'll forward it to the admin and they'll change it.

What happened to the days on forums when people would actually respond to a post you make rather than trying to prove that you put it in the wrong spot or should have searched. A forum is supposed to be a community, not a search index.
But like i said im just trying to spark up a discussion so i can get past my 10 post limit. If i was able to post on the forum i wanted it would have prevented this post from being made.
Either way i dont really want seidios opinion on it since they made the product. I was looking more for user experience and first hand opinions, not specs.

Did you even take a second to look at the threads I told you about?
And this is a DEVELOPMENT forum, not a social network, there are threads especially put aside (in the General section) for you to pad your post count. What happened to the days of people searching and following forum rules? But honestly, go ahead and ignore the links that I told you about (that you asked information about in the first place) and go ahead and post for no other reason than to add to your post count and clutter the sub forum with threads that already exist, I don't care. Good luck.

Actually it isn't letting me post on the DEV forums. thats why i am here. this is an accessory forum. If it was a dev forum it would not let me post here because my count isn't up. And i would have posted in the general section but i figured something about cases would go in the accessory section. I am not ignoring the threads your talking about (although you didn't link them) i know how to search and found them myself. I posted one thread to build my post count not 10 so relax. Clearly you do care cause you took the time to come into this thread and contribute nothing other than telling me I was wrong. If anything thanks for helping me get my count up.

What he meant is this entire website is for development. Not just the development section. I know you want to icrease you count but you could go in the off topic thread for that. One more thread here and there and over there add up quick and it makes it harder for people to find what they are looking for. But the case has been out for a few weeks now.

Yea, I know. This is a newbie question. But I'm new to the forum scene and I'd like to know what the guidelines are for posting APKs for apps and games here on XDA. More specifically in my case, the unofficial android port of AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake). I tried doing this on Android Central, but that didn't pan out very well. I took the same approach that I'm doing here. I asked if I could, then about four months went by. No responses. So I said f**k it, I'll just post it. Not five minutes after posting I was repremanded and my post was taken down. Yea. Of course very shortly afterwords my original question was answerd in a rather back-handed way claiming I needed to either be an original developer or have permission from the developer. I also could only post links from the Play Store (or any other official market). Those rules are reasonable and fair, but it would have been nice to know beforehand, I wouldn't have posted it if I had known. XDA Developers seems to be much more lenient on the topic of android hacking and modding, and not so prudey. So, in conclusion, CAN I post my unofficial android port of AM2R here? Thanks in advance.
Bump.
Please, Please, Please send me a copy or a link to the game! I have searched high and low, and I saw your post on the other site, and there are no working ports of this game! I know there MUST be many other people looking for the same thing, so thank you!
