Right now, I am running DH's Google Play edition rom with Sky Dragon kernel. I am running it on the interactive governor. Battery life is Meh. Definitely not as good as sense.
Which could governor/settings will give me a good mix between battery life and performance?
Interactive is never good on battery. Its smooth but its a batt hog. Intellidemand, on demand, abyssplug are great on batt life. Use noop or sio as scheduler.

Interactive is the best Gov IMO. Its scales way better than Ondemand where it just jumps to the max. I've tried out all Govs and they yield just about the same with like ~5% battery difference. I would install better battery Stats and see what's hogging your battery (wakelocks). My guess is Google Play services. If you use Xposed there is a module called Unbounch that helps with wakelocks. I use two apps to stop many Google Play Services receivers from running.

Well, ondemand : cpu maxes only when is needed
performance: cpu runs always on max speed,and consumes lots of battery...
I don't know anything about hotplug

Ya..hotplug using apparent juice aiming good performance side..if u want no compramis on battery choose ondemand..u can also use 'setxperia'(free from play store) by intek which working awsom on o3d..

I'm a litte confused about which governor to use.
By default this kernel uses conservative and it performs quite well. I would expect it to be less snappy, but the difference is very small. Especially scrolling through the home-screens etc. is fluid.
Now, interactive is supposed to be the new ICS default-governor and normally you would expect it to be sthe snappiest one. Anyway, with interactive scrolling through my home-screens is a little choppy... How can that be?
SmartassV2 seems to be good in an overall-view, but I'm not sure what to think about it, because I generally would prefer using a more classical governor.
What governor would you use on a stock-4.0.3-ROM with Speedy-7-Kernel if you don't use heavy apps or games, but want all those general apps (launcher, browser etc.) to rum really smooth?

i use lulzactive on my Nexus S.
If you use it with NS tools, it gives you more option to control screen off freq.
With that it has great battery life.
lulzactiveV2/sio is the smoothest for me. Anyways I don't know yet which is the best governor for the night when I sleep. Can I use powersave? When I don't use my phone it should stay at the lowest clock as possible.

I've tried all those governors now and I think smartassV2 seems to be the one I will use for now.
But some other question: The kernel offers Live OC. It seems pretty clear what this is: All the speeds are increased by x%, including the bus-speed of 200Mhz, without increasing the voltages.
Lets say I just overclock about 10%, so the maximum-clock is 1100 Mhz, without increasing the voltage. Will I drain more battery than with 100% speed? And is there any visible advantage in overclocking just about 10% or won't I see or feel any difference at all?
i use setcpu (and i believe i actually bought the donate version)...but lately, i've been seeing people recommended against using setcpu.
any reasoning for this? and what is the preferred alternative?

setCPU works fine for me too. I use it to change cpu speed when I am doing benchmarks and I haven't seen anything that indicates setCPU isn't working correctly.
I will say though, that I can OC my TF and I can't really notice a difference from just running at 1 GHZ...But I do see a difference in battery life.
So bottom line, I just leave it at stock speed and enjoy.
I use Systune app (also, lets you modify "nice" settings, io, etc), advanced test's over SetCpu demonstrated it's not optimized for sleep/awake schedules, so do not use it for sleep/awake frequencies
Setcpu works fine for me! I have used it on a Herotab C8 and some other phones.
nothrills is what I have switched to from setcpu as I didn't like when setcpu changed their interface.
I use No-frills CPU control and it works quite nice. It allows you to set min/max frequency, I/O scheduler as well as your governor. I use min 312, max 1600, I/O noop, and Ondemand for my governor and it runs quite fast! Ondemand, however, does increase your battery consumption but it is geared more for performance than battery life. Interactive also seems to be a good mix of performance and battery usage but I tend to go for pure, unadulterated power! ;-P...well...that would be the "performance" governor but...Ondemand is more practical :-D

My suggestions:
use a lightweight, stockish kernel
---> slim ics is a fast, streamlined ROM and coupling it with a heavily modded kernel may only burden it with unnecessary overhead, so i recommend using stockish kernels like Franco's, _thalamus', or Pete's
play with the right governor-scheduler combo that works for you
---> if you're vent on using Air, you have to try out the different combinations that will work for you. Every phone is different and your phone has its quirks and strengths. When I used Air, I used a noop-lazy combo as this gives me the best battery life and performance when I need it, but this may not be true for you. So experiment and benchmark. This is what makes Android special: the power of choice and customizability.

Your overclock isn't stable then.
It's a not a "per use" thing. It is just as stable as ondemand with deadline.
I had my best experience with
ondemand (lower the up threshold to ~85% via nstools, than it's smooth as butter)
200-1000 Deep Idle ON (ensure that deep idle works properly with TOP=OFF)

I want to overclock my phone. I have doom kernel v14 installed. I installed no frill CPU on my phone. The min frequency I seleted was at 300 MHz (approx) and the max was 1.4 GHz (approx). Does this mean that the phone will automatically go between these values if I run a heavy app (eg GTA 3)? And what does the 'governor' and 'i/o schedular' mean and what does it do? My current settings are :
sio - I/o schedular
Performance - govenor
Min - 245
Max - 1.2 Ghz
Governor : Smartass v2

I'm also on Doomkernel v14 and my battery is draining so quicky. Its dropping 5% every 10minutes even when I'm using any light application. I have SetCPU and my sttings are Max 1401MHz and Min 134MHz with smartassV2 and deadline. Although speed is amazing but battery performance is terrible.

Performance governor is a "special" one in that it goes to the max. clock speed, and never uses the min., or any frequency in between. You can do that if you want to do benchmarking reliably, but I'm not sure it's good for battery life.

^ That page explains all the governors, but from what I can tell from using Cool Tool onscreen system info app, "lagfree" on Doomkernel seems to be a higher performance governor like you'd expect from the name and not how he or she describes: it seems to scale down only quite slowly from a high clock, I'm guessing to eliminate any possible lag while scrolling the interface that might result if it scaled down quicker. And we don't have anything relating to multiple cores
Anyway, I think I saw you say you were on JokaWild as well. Looking at the Joka init.d scripts the SmartAssV2 parameters are tweaked towards performance and it comes as the default for the rom, so maybe try that as a more balanced option than Performance governor.

I wondered as well if v14 was not as good as v13 3013 for battery life, but better for performance, but 5% in 10 minutes is a lot. Have you tried using the BetterBatteryStats app to find an explanation? Has it got better just through subsequent use / recharging?
Battery life really sucks on jokawild (actually in all CustomRoms).
I have mine like this (r800a):
-smartassv2/sio or bfq
-.62 stock rom with a couple of build.prop mods
-64 baseband
-juice defender
-brightness around 25%
-supercharger v6
My phone has been for like 4hr and still with 100%

Was it charging? That's impossible. I left my phone idle,lowest brightness and wifi off for about 30 minutes and it dropped to 96%.
