Hi
I'm hoping someone can help me, I've just purchased a new 64GB Micro SDXC UHS-1 to use with my new Sony Xperia Z3. But I'm having a lot problems, the phone keeps saying "Damaged SD Card Please format the card" however the Card works fine on PC. I have tried formatting from the phone still says the same thing. I have tried both Fat32Format GUI and EaseUS partition to format the card to FAT32. As far as I can tell its FAT32 but the phone still wont accept it and keeps saying Damaged SD Card.
Unfortunately, I don't have another SD card to test the phone, so before I take the phone back or get another SD card I want to make sure I've tried everything or see if this is common issue that someone might have a solution for. I have also tried restoring the phone using the Sony PC Companion.
Any ideas on what the problem might be?
It keeps corrupting all my sandisk ultra 64gb micro sdxc cards. I've read atleast one on Xperia care forum with issue. Including ones I've used for ages in other devices
I have no problem with my high speed Sandisk Extreme Plus 64GB.
The easiest way to tell whether it's the phone or the SD card would probably be to test another one... I have a 64GB Samsung PRO and it has worked great for me.
Did you try format it to exFAT?

Yes I have tried exFat and tried NTFS even though I knew it wouldnt work but thought I would try anyways..
Wait ExFat works?
Does this apply to all Z3's or just specific ones? I have a 64gb sandisk ultra microsd card and want to use for my Z3 that I am purchasing. Do I actually have to root it or will it just work if I put it in the MicroSD slot? I thought it supported up to 128gb.
Also, I've been reading the forums and found posts of people with gap issues and light showing on the sides. Do any of you have these issues?

ExFAT has better limitation than Fat32.
If the phone doesn't support NTFS, can consider the exFAT.
Ok so i've resolved the issue (so to speak), the hard I was trying was a Strontium Nitro 64GB, which does not work with the Z3 it works with the Z1 though (strange). So I purchased a SanDisk Ultra and that is working now with no problems.
I dont have any issues with Gaps or light showing on the side.. I have put the phone under the tap for a few mins and havent had any problems.
I have a PNY 64GB MicroSDXC I and am experiencing the exact same issue. The phone reads other 4GB sd cards but absolutely refuses to read the 64GB one no matter how I format it. Reformatting it through the phone prompt does not work. It just pops up with damaged sd card please try formating every time I have it try to fix it. The sd card reads fine on multiple windows pc's. I have tried formatting it as exFat and Fat32(which windows wouldn't let me do...had to use a 3rd party utility) and neither worked.

I have just taken delivery of my Touch Pro. I inserted my 8GB into slot (correctly) however, when I go to memory/storage card it says not installed.
Any comments, help or ideas most welcome. The card is Sandisk and was working in the phone I took it out of.
How is the card formatted, what phone did you use it in?
likely the card... but try another?
i just put a 16Gb micro sdhc in yesterday after direct copy from my 2Gb to the 16Gb, popped it in and it was fine (had to reinstall iGo but nothing else needed to be done with all other apps installed in phone memory)
Sounds like it needs formatting perhaps? Hard to think what else could be going on there, but TP took my 8GB card without problems, and is now running with my 16GB card without problems.
like a few other people said already...formatting...that should do it!
I did excatly the same thing with a 8GB Sandisk Ultra. It worked first time no problem.
There are A LOT of fakes on eBay which are incredibly hard to distinguish - I got a Sony Memory Stick that just had lots of write and read errors and just stopped working. You might wanna check if the problem persists.

Place it in a computer, right click over the drive icon, format.
I formatted my Touch Pro 2 with Fat32 format, and it will only see 8G and it's a 16G. What's the deal?
Hi, I have now gone through 2 cards, the first one thinking it was broke so i sent it back, and my unit is doing the exact same with my new card.
When i got my first card which was a sandisk ultra 64gb sdxc card, i thought it was originaly a bad card as my unit wouldn't see it, plus when i put it into my laptop and formatted it, it only showed as 32gb.
i exchanged that card for basically the same one, but it said made for android on it.
I put that straight into my unit when i opened it and that said the same thing on my unit, can now safely remove card, and when i went to settings > storage, there was no sign of a card, it just said mount card, and if i did this, it would say preparing card then a little after say i can safely remove it again and still show nothing.
i have now put this card back on my laptop and formatted it as fat32 (as i thought this one was going to be already seems it says its made for android devices), and again, it shows on my laptop as only 32gb and not 64gb, the file system is fat32 as well.
i have seen screen shots of people using this card in a 10.1 and their storage does show as 64gb.
i have tried using hp format utility and guiformat to format as fat32 (both show on unit but only as 32gb), i have tried using windows 7 formatter to format as exfat (which wont show in my unit), i have also tried sdformatter 3.1 which also doesn't seem to get my 64gb to show.
can anyone help, i surely couldn;t have got 2 bad cards?
james
Why are you cross-posting James?
lol i wasn't sure how fast i would get an answer in the other forum so i posted to both
thank you very much for your help though
What was the solution?
Edit:found the other thread
well the solution for me was to get a 32gb card as i just couldn't get a 64gb to work, i have not had the latest update either to test out a 64gb card.
Easius partition manager to format 64gb card FAT32... This will allow you to use the sd card until you get the update, it just means you're restricted to 4gb files and under....

Use that to test if card is a fake first as fake is the usual sd card problem .

I tried the H2TestW... when it opes it also only says 29 GB.
But when it was first seen by me it showed 64 GB with exFat format. Only upon using programs such as guiformat... to format it to FAT 32 it changed to the lower value.
Try formatting ntfs
Does the Note support 64GB cards? The Samsung Uk site states "up to 32GB". If anyone should manage to get it to show full 64GB, please share as I'm wanting to buy a larger card.
64 GB Card on Note 10.1
I am running a Sandisk 64GB SDcard on my Note 10.1 and it works fine.
I did install it...unmount it, format it and rremounted it.
It is a Wifi GT-N013 and the card worked under both ICS and JB.
Hope it helps
I have a 64gb sd in my 8010 reads it just fine. Strange...

I believe my micro sd card is trashed but I was looking for suggestions on a way to recover it if possible. It is a 64gb Sandisk Ultra Micro sd. I first noticed it as a problem while running CromiX 5.4 rom2sd, every few weeks it would lock up eventually needing to restore a nandroid or totally reflashing. I suspected the card was the problem and have reverted to running internally without any problems for months. I have deleted the partition and recreated multiple times with GParted. Gparted can see the complete card but when I look at it in a windows environment it only sees 27gb. The options to delete volume in the windows environment, disk management tool, are grayed out and formatting accomplishes nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions before I toss it out?

i had same problem i bought sandisk xtreme 64 gb micro sd and locked it self with couple files. i tried everything as a programmer and warezzer but nothing just locked returned to seller and thet give me new one than same problem again returned again for cash this time. Now im using 32 gb lexar on my xperia z1 and 16gb lexar on my tf700 no problem at the momment i searched web about locked sandisk microsds couple thousand microsds broken i assume. so sandisk best but not this 64gbs microsds one . i believe ...sorry for bad english...
sounds weird, I know, but having had all sorts of weird experiences with SD cards and Micro SD cards sanDisk cards included, just wondered, how are you connecting it to your PC?
The reason I ask is that on a fairly new machine running Win7.1 I have found that if i insert the microSD into a USB adaptor it cannot read it or at best can only format to 32gig, but if the card is put into the holder that came with it my machine can see it and format it to its full size
Agreed, I also have a sandisk ultra 64gb microsd card and in order to format it correctly you have to use adapter/card reader that is sdxc compatible. It usually says on the card reader what it is compatible with. If you dont your sdxc card will show as having less storage space

I just bought a new 64GB PNY Pro Elite microSDXC for this tablet, and every time I try to move a file, an app, or anything to the card, I'm given an error. It says unable to move. Not enough storage space. I read somewhere else that people had trouble with the 64GB cards, but the 32GB cards worked fine. Has anyone had issues with the 64GB MicroSD card?
Odd, I've never seen that issue on mine, not on the 64GB nor on the 128GB(which is my regular card).
Mind you, I only use Sandisk, and never a lower-tier brand. Too many problems when you use anything other than Sandisk or Samsung cards.
If you have an sd-card reader/writer for pc, googling you can find several utilities to thoroughly test your card.
If the card is OK and you are rooted you can try sdfix, a free utility that fixed random write access problems to the sd-card on my tablet after the upgrade to lollipop

Well, I found a few other people who had the same issue, and they used a command line app on their PC called fat32format, which formats devices above 32GB. They said it fixed their problem, but I didn't think MicroSD cards on an Android device were formatted FAT32.
Either way, as ShadowLea said, I normally use Samsung and/or SanDisk cards and have never had a problem taking it out of the box and plugging it in. I ordered this card because the description read 95MB/s read time, but if I'm not mistaken, Samsung and SanDisk both have cards like this. Since I just received it and have 30 days to exchange it, I think I'm going to send it back. I shouldn't have to use any app to get it working correctly right out of the box. I guess this is what I get from deviating from the norm.

My phone never rebooted, I have a 128 GB SanDisk Class 10 sd card. But after like a few weeks or months I got a sd card error and soon after that I couldn't access any files on it.
Only rebooting solved the issue, but once I got it it would occur more often and often, sometimes every 2 days and sometimes multiple times a day. Formating the SD card made it work again for a few months until it started all over again.
I formated it to different formats (in windows), I also formatted it with the phone itself, nothing helped.. I'm constantly running out of space now because I only store my music and photos on the sd card.
I never tried a different sd card long enough to recreate the problem, but I used this sd card for a few months on a different device.
If someone fixed this please help me I'm so tired of this :crying:
I have a 128Gb Sandisk in my Mate 7, runs with no issues at all. Maybe clean your contacts?

To be honest I never tried it lol, but if rebooting the phone solves the issue I don't understand how dust or dirt could be the problem. I will try it anyways, maybe it works :cyclops:

Cleaned the sd card and the sd card slot as good as possible, but after a few days I had the same problem again... Maybe my sd card is broken but I can't really test it so I guess I'll live with this forever...
Just now it came to my mind that I could've bought a fake SanDisk card, even though I got it from amazon. I will test it tomorrow I think.
Maybe.
How is it formatted? Probably most compatible to format to FAT32.
I have a 64Gb card in an old phone that was supposed to take a maximum of 32Gb and it works fine when formatted the right way.

It is formatted exFat right now, I formatted it quite a few times since i got the card so I don't know whether I always had exFat or not. I'm checking the SD card now for it's real capacity, with 100 GB left it will take 8 hours, but if it's really a fake card it should cause errors way earlier I think. If that's not the problem I'll wait until I have time to flash KangVIP, then I'll re-format the sd card and do some cleanup while I'm at it.
i bought a 128gb samsung evo+ sdcard and working great so far
