If your computer has a wifi receiver, it's also actually a transmitter, and you can use a program such as mHotspot or Virtual Router to broadcast a wifi hotspot from your home broadband through your computer. It can be a bit glitchy, and your speeds won't be as good as your actual broadband, bu
Or, if your phone is rooted, you can reverse tether it via USB. This method is rather complicated though, might not work with your phone, and might not work with large games/apps that require a cellular data connection or wifi to download (although you can trick this into working with Xposed and the Fake Wifi module). Again, it's quite complicated, but if your PC doesn't have built-in wifi, you don't have any other choice to try.

[Req]Gtalk Requirement For Market

Hi There,
Is there some way to connect to talk via some other port? Cause on some Wifi network(like at my library) the default port that gtalk uses on android is blocked.
Because of the stupid requirement of gtalk needing to be connected, I cannot download any apps.
Or better still has someone come up with a app that downloads apps from the market without the need to sign into gtalk.
I tried app brain, and I was thought it would download the app once I sync. But it has not done so.
Cheers
Pritish
This would be interesting to know if possible.
As for right now, I think your only solution is to try a proxy or vpn.

How can I connect through a proxy via wifi?
Can anyone explain to me why google made the gtalk sign in requirement for market?
I've uninstalled Gtalk via Titanium Backup, as I don't use or need it, and I can still download from the Market. Maybe it depends on phone?

Were not talking about the app, but the protocols it uses as that's how the market communicates with Googles servers
Sent from my Captivate
Found this website called Slideme. At the moment that's only place I can download apps over wifi, but they obviously don't have all the choices

[Q] Downloading from the market on a PC

A friend of mine wants to buy a Desire S. He won't have 3G in his subscription for the mobile phone. In other words: the phone could only have an internet-connection by using WiFi.
Unfortunately, he doesn't have a WiFi access point in his house, because his father can not stand the radiation. All the internet-connections in his house are wired, and none of the neighbours have an unsecured WiFi access point.
So, this would mean he can't use the market, because the phone can't be connected to internet at his house. Ofcourse, he could download apps at school or at one of his friend's houses, but this is a bit unpractical.
In other words; I am looking for a certain app on the PC or a website, which can browse through the Market, and download the APKs, so he can install them manually (only the free ones ofcourse).
I already checked AndroLib and Cyrket, but none of them provides a downloadlink, only a QR-code.
Is there any alternative, or is the only way of downloading apps at his house searching APKs manually by using Google?
Thanks in advance.
That's a tough one. You can browse the market from any browser. You just need to go to https://market.android.com/.
However, when you "purchase" an app, it will only send via cellular, not internet.
I wish you luck on this.
Well, you could do that on Nokia phones by accessing the 'ovi' site and using some parameters to make the site "think" you were accessing using a mobile phone. In Android Market I don't think you can do that... But there's a way to get the programs needed: with YOUR help !!!
If you have an Android phone, you can download the apps he needs and then backup them using Titanium Backup or App Backup and Reinstall. The 'apk' files will be saved in a directory and you can send them to your friend by bluetooth, or put then on a usb pen...
But... let me tell you this: the Android phone relies SO MUCH in internet data that not having wifi nor 3g subscription is almost a crime, specially having a Desire S !!!
Thanks for the help guys!
Guess I'll have to help him whenever he wants new apps, but that isn't a big deal.
At least there is another one who switched to Android
just google the file and youll get the app.

[Q] Re-installing games

I think you can not re install apps and games with Zune. When I try to do that it says already purchased.I can re-install with my phones marketplace though. But re-installing games which are large in size using phone's data connection is a huge problem.Any way around?please help.
Games which are bigger in Size will never get downloaded over the data connection. Its built in rule with Windows Phone. You need to connect over WIFI to download them.
Also, download re-installer from the market place. It will list all apps that you had previously so you can select them to download.

Reinstaller queries your marketplace purchase history and gives you a check list of every app you've installed. You can then mark/unmark as you wish, then begin the install process.

I wish there was a hack for that. I have a unlmited data plan but, if I am on the road with no wi-fi avaiable, I can't buy and play a new game. Sorry but, I think it should give a warning "This game is really large at XXmb, could cost you extra charges, etc"
Or is there a way to "fool" WP7 that your data connection is a Wi-fi connection ?

possible cause of it might be configuration with LTE settings. Another thing possible is the restriction posed by AV with configuration not to allow mobile data communication and prevent unwanted data charges

there is a solution, just find the app that blocks it, as example is AV. Sometimes other apps installed used to optimize phone has that kind of restriction also.

[APP][4.1+] Tetrd - USB Tethering & Reverse Tethering (NoRoot)

Hi guys! I made a USB tethering and reverse tethering app that doesn't require root. It also doesn't require you to enable USB debugging (except on Windows, I'll try to fix that on a future release). It uses USB accessory mode which can make it faster than apps that uses ADB.
Tethering
This allows you to share your device's wifi or mobile internet connection with your PC. You can use this if your carrier or data plan doesn't allow you to enable the built-in tethering feature of your device. Or if you have unlimited data plan, but your carrier caps your hotspot/tethering usage to a certain amount, say 7GB.
Reverse Tethering
This feature allows you to share your PC's internet connection with your device. I use this to reduce lag when playing online games since my room has an unstable wifi signal and my PC is already connected to the internet via an ethernet cable. You can also use this if you're in a place where your PC has access to wired internet and there's no wifi available.
Note: Some apps only check for wifi or cellular connectivity, thus will not work when reverse tethering.
Network
When tethering or reverse tethering, your PC along with all connected devices will be in the same network. This means a device can communicate with your PC and other connected devices. This is useful if you want to transfer files from one device to another or if you want to access a server (e.g. HTTP server) on your PC from your device.
Note: ICMP is currently not supported so the ping command will not work when tethering or reverse tethering.
Additional Features
• No root required
• No USB debugging required (except on Windows)
• Fast link speed (200Mbps+ on some devices)
• IPv6 support (may not work on some devices)
• Up to five devices can be connected
• Configurable network settings
GOOGLE PLAY LINK
The app also requires a server application to be installed on your computer. You can download it from the following links.
Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10

Mac 10.10+

Thank you soooo much
tested and found working well on win 10 and my pie android.
App is working very well.
Win 10 tethered to andeoid pie
Kudos to developer for such great app.
I cannot afford any of tethering options as they are expensive for me. Maybe the exchange rate caused the hike (for INR conversion)
Just wanted to thank the developer and let him know that his app works great.

Ashish
This is great! Thanks for your hard work. It works on my primary device, but I have an old secondary device with broken Wi-Fi that I pretty much just use as an alarm clock. I'd like to update some apps on that device through Tetrd, but unfortunately I can't reverse tether until I log into my Google account... which I can't do until I'm somehow able to reverse tether. Any chance users could be authorized as free without any need to log in?

I'm on Google Play services version is 14.8.48 with Android 4.4.2. But I think the reason why I am unable to sign in is that I simply don't have Internet access at all on the old device: no WiFi, and without a micro-SIM card to use, no mobile data either. There are other tethering solutions which seem like they might work on Android 5.0+, but unfortunately I can't even update to a new custom ROM with the WiFi broken: system UI crashes as soon as any new ROM loads up and then it just boot loops. I'm stuck. I might just have to bite the bullet and buy a micro SIM or an Ethernet OTG adapter.

I just tested this, and you're right. I wasn't able to sign in on Android 4.4.2 up to 5.0.2 (5.1.1+ works fine) when reverse tethering without wifi or mobile data connection. It seems Google Play services only checks for wifi or mobile data connection when determining internet connectivity on those versions. Because of this, some Google apps will not work or some of their features won't work. For example, Google Play Store won't download apps or app updates, and YouTube's search feature won't work. If you only need to update some apps, you can just download their apks and sideload them to your device.
