So when I went to restore my apps on Titanium Backup, there is 1 app that would not restore (8sms). So eventually, I gave up and decided to install it from the google play store. Only problem is, every time I try to download it, I get "Unknown error code during application install '-505' "
I am guessing this has to do with Titanium Backup trying to restore it. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Go to data/app or data/app-lib and delete the folder of 8sms app then return to the play store.
Well, I'm actually getting the same error while trying to install Pure Calendar Widget. I'm trying to debug this error with my friend, the always helpful Francois Deslandes, its developer. The thing is, could it be related to the app trying to install to app-private?

Sure, we'll keep working with the logcat to debug this error.

I recently flashed a new rom (the last time I did this was almost 2 years ago so I forgot what to do). Titanium backup has been doing weekly updates for a long time. So when I started up the phone titanium backup is gone, I read that I must redownload from the play store, but when I run it, it says I failed to acquire root privileges. It tells me to get busy box, so I download that too, but that won't install properly.
What should I do now? Have I lost root? The bootloader is available...that means it's still rooted right? The internal sd card still shows my folder of titanium backup and all the other root folders I used to have on my phone, I just can't get titanium backup to run so i can't restore.
Thanks!

If you flash a new rom root is lost.
You have to root again.
S.R.
A few of the JB ROMS were causing issues with root. The fix was to re-flash the SU (superuser) apk and that would fix things right up. You should be able to find it doing a search.
Good luck and hope this helps!

Lets start with a few basic questions... dont mean to offend you, just wanna make sure its not something you may have overlooked.
What rom did you flash?
What, if anything, did you wioe in recovery?
Did you get a superuser or supersu prompt when titanium started?

Not necessarily so. Most custom roms are pre-rooted by the dev. Ive flashed countless roms and until recently w/ jb not had any issues w/ root access.

seems you've just lost root privileges,
just flash supeuser again and you will be fine...

it pretty much looks like this in TitBack, give or take a few letters: "[SMS/MMS/APN] Phone/Messaging...". when you tap on it, the pop-up recognizes it as "Phone/Messaging Storage". this is where your text messages are.
some 3rd-party MMS apps like GoSMS Pro can back up your messages too, and I believe there's also an app or two solely for backing up your messages to your sdcard/internal storage.
Titanium Batch restore fail
Hi all
Having a few problems, I'm new to flashing roms and the use of Titanium Backup and I've just flashed my second ROM. I've gone from CM9 to CM10. Before doing so I created a backup of apps + data.
I flashed the ROM fine, and ran the batch restore function in Titanium. I have all the icons on my homescreen from the previously installed apps but after clicking on them my phone tells me that app isn't installed. I then notice that my notification from Titanium's batch restore shows the apps I had downloaded from the play store failed to restore (the notification said that the elements failed after batch restore was complete).
I noticed that these apps have a line through them when the list of apps I want to restore appears.
Titanium then advised me that the apps did not restore as the Android ID had changed, So I then reverted to the previous android ID thinking this to be the solution. However, after running the restore function again, the same amount of elements failed to restore.
Due to my lack of knowledge in Titanium and my need for these apps, I turned to the play store and decided to manually redownload all the apps again. This does not work either! The error message I get is the apps cannot be downloaded due to an error (491). I guess this is to do with the android ID changing?
Please help, how can I get these apps to restore? and also how can I be able to download apps from the play store again? :crying:
EDIT: So I was able to reinstall the apps from the play store by wiping the dalvik + cache.
This still leaves me baffled as to why Titanium wasn't able to do this

Did you try to restore system apps? I always use tb w/ the pro key to restore user apps + data, and have been getting the changed android id lately, but whether I keep the new id or revert to the old one, my restore works. Depending on what ROM I'm going to or from, sometimes I have to change my home screen shortcuts for system apps.

I didn't select restore system apps, instead I selected restore all apps with data, failing that I tried restore missing apps + all system data.
What option should I normally be selecting to do a straight restore after flashing a ROM? Does the fact that there is a line through the apps that I'm trying to restore mean anything?
I always select "restore missing apps + data" it's the 1st option under restore in the batch menu. The apps with a line through them are the ones that tb recognizes as being backed up but not installed.

I'm running DH's Lollipop ROM and the Play store has been giving me -505 errors when I try to install certain applications. It is not during the download period, just when the app attempts to install itself. This happens with APKs as well. Is it an issue of Lollipop compatibility? I'm trying to download Chronus in particular.

Make sure that you did a clean install of the rom. If you were in TWRP there is a advanced wiping tab. Try wiping internal data (that does not wipe external sd card). This is probably a fix. If using some other recovery it should come with a similar feature. Hope this helped

I had the same issue. Just curious, but did you try and use Titanium Backup at all? I did, and it failed. Must have broke something. A clean flash did the trick for me.
I had the same issue but only with apps that I attempted to restore with Titanium. I had to do a full data wipe and reflash to be able to install those apps again.

Yea I did and it just hangs up on that restore until I FC the app and deselect from restore. With the ROM I'm using Chronus (for example) is an optionally app to be installed and it installs that way but isn't the most up to date version and the update from the Play Store doesn't install either. Weird issues for sure.

I have flashed the ROM and love it except this issue that I am also experiencing. I also have TiBu but did not use it for the app restore. Rather I used Google Play and it failed to install Any.do. I have tried manually and read extensively online and the problem appears to be related to Adobe air not being Lollipop compatible. I finally email Anydo and they are aware of the issue and are providing me with a link to their upcoming lollipop beta. My point is I don't believe reflashing, re-restoring, or rummaging around in the data/data folder will fix the 505 error.

After reading further I decided to uninstall ALL Task apps, which included Chaos-Control. I was then able to install Any.DO. It was a permission issue and it conflicted with Chaos-Control. Lollipop is confusing app permissions. Find the like app, uninstall, and then install the app you want. That worked for me.
So I have been using TB for years now, since back in the day that I had the HTC Hero and I have never had a problem with it until now. There are some certain apps that it will just not restore no matter what I try. It begins restoring the others just fine but when it gets to the same exact apps, it just stops and freezes.
I am using the Restore missing apps with data option.
I have tried deleting all backups and backing up again. I have tried verifying my backups various times. I have also tried not using batch restore for those specific apps (Going directly to that app and restoring just that one app with and without data, and it just hangs as well).
I am using SuperSU with my binary updated and busy box installed. I also changed the application processing mode to indirect. Is anyone else having this same issue? Its not on one specific rom, it happens on every rom I flash may it be stock based or aosp. I have exactly 112 apps backed up so when I have to force stop TB, and go back to uncheck the apps that are not restoring various times to restore the rest, it sucks especially since I am very picky with things working as they should.
Apps it will not restore:
Tippy Tipper
Subway Surfer
Nimble Quest
Battlefriends at sea gold
Commander (Star wars)
Instasize
If anyone has any idea what may be causing this and how to fix it, please let me know. Thank you beforehand!
What kernel do you have installed?
Stock CM that came with the official CM12 rom.
But either way, I have had this issue on every rom I have flashed.

If you go to the play store are you able to install them? I have had a few that i can't restore, but once I've installed them from the play store I can restore the backed up data. I haven't been able to figure out why some restore and others don't (unless they aren't compatible with the DPI and the Android version I've found a few that when you look them up in the play store they are not compatible)

I have been able to install them from the play store without any issue, I just can't restore them using TB no matter what I try. And its weird that its the same apps every time. So it is something that those apps have that does not get along. Can someone manipulate the situation and check on their end? I am running Illusion (Latest version from the 18th) and latest version of TB. See if you can restore those specific apps backed up from any rom.
Try changing the mount namespace separation setting in super su. I got that message when I first installed titanium it was a warning I don't know what it does or if it will fix your problem
I realized today that when backing up the specific apps after deleting all backups (Fresh backup), it rushes through those specific apps like as if it doesn't want to back it up but it doesn't give me an error message.
some apps don't like restoring to a different rom than they were made on.
Have you tried using the option in TB to create an update.zip you can then flash?
Hi there in desperation I come to this thread. Ive tried everything thats suggested in this thread and more.
TT backup Pro home page shows all necessary items like Root etc checked.
Problems with Pro:
1..Nandroid restore crashes immediately on item selection eg as soon as Menu Item Nandroid is selected Titanium crashes.
2..As mentioned by others, some apps wont restore; TT sits there in restore mode with nothing happening. This is on several apps.
3..Menu/Backup data to XML Bookmarks=yes Messages=yes Call log=crash/'Unfortunately, TT bup has stopped.'
4..Several other annoyances in reliability but the above are most important.
I have politely asked Titanium for support but they dont bother answering. After a few days waiting I gave the app a feedback of 1 on Play thinking that would get some response but no!
In 20 years of computer work, I have never had a software supplier with such a terrible support policy, and the feedback page for this app supports this comment.
Im sorry to have to come to this forum asking for help, but the Titanium folks leave me no choice.
As an aside I also use 'Backup Your Mobile' which IMHO is better at restoring settings and reliably restores apps with settings at no cost if you can put up with the ads.
Kind regards,
Alistair.
Since this post and no replies I have submitted 2 more support requests with TTBup support which is done via a web page interface. I even supplied a small video showing the problem. Alogcat does not report any errors which is odd.
Still no replies from TTBup support.
I get an error message every now and then "com.vlingo.midas has stopped..." and I want to uninstall and remove this app. But I can't find it on my Samsung GalaxyS5 using different file explorers.
I've tried searching but can not find any info om where on my device it is.
My device is rooted. Swedish language on the phone.
Thanx!
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Seeing as you have root access you should be able to remove this pre-installed app. Do you have Titanium Backup installed on your phone? If not, download it fro the Play Store. Open it up and grant it root access, then once it's finished loading hit the Backup/Restore tab at the top of the screen. This will open a list of everything that's installed on your phone (system apps included), find Vlingo and click on it and select the freeze option. This will disable the app without actually uninstalling it, which is like a trial run to see if removing the app is going the affect normal operation of the phone. Use your phone as normal for a day and if nothing goes wrong you can then go back and find it in Titanium Backup again and select the uninstall option (if you wish to uninstall it). Uninstalling the app isn't entirely necessary as freezing it stops it from running.
Good luck!
Thank you very much for your answer!
I installed Titanium Backup and found vlingo. But when I tried to uninstall it I got another error message saying that it couldn't remove vlingo because it couldn't find the APK-file.
I still get the initial error message...
Any more suggestions?

Yes I tried to freeze it but I don't have pro so it wasn't possible. And I don't want to buy it if it doesn't work.
But if it doesn't find the apk then it shouldn't be able to freeze it anyway?

It should still be able to freeze it, but I understand that you don't want to pay to find out. I found this though:
1. Install Go Launcher Ex from the Play Store.
2. While using GO Launcher EX, open the app drawer.
3. Find the*Voice Command*icon.
4. Long press and hold the Voice Command icon, then a red cross will pop up.
5. Press the red cross, then follow the prompts to*uninstall Vlingo.
6. Once you've done that you can uninstall Go Launcher.

I tried that too but it didn't work. So I tried to hide it but I still get the same error message. Now after i hid it I can't find it again. Where are the hidden apps?
I'll buy the Titanium to see if I can freeze it.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate your help!
Have you considered using a custom ROM?
Yes, I've considered changing the ROM. But my earlier experiences, years ago, was that the custom ROMs suffer from various lacks in compability. So for now I don't have the time to experiment with that.
And so far my phone seems to be working after the Titanium purchase. No error messages in 24 hours

Migrating to a new phone and discovered an issue with the backups on my old phone. This is tested and happening on both btw.
If I backup and restore a working app it then will force close on opening. Clearing cache and data and still force closes.
I tried uninstalling titanium, deleting titanium folder and reinstalling.
Same issue after a backup and restore of an application.
Running Oneplus 6 and Oneplus 7 pro

App restore with titanium doesn't work for switching to a new phone, only restoring to the same phone and same os. When it does work the apps tend to be super glitchy. I'll drop a link to the xda thread where you can get more info/ help. Good luck.

Agreed. I've only migrated app data to a new phone using TB import/export (.TiBkp) feature. AFAIK, you can only do that one app at a time. So I've only done it with a few apps that I really wanted to save the user data.
More folks on this forum are recommending Swift Backup these days. It seems more reliable for this phone. I've use TB for years, but now I've just started trying out Swift Backup.
It appears TB is not compatible with the newer "split apks" format for newer apps in the appstore.
Basically TB will only backup the "base.apk" for an app when it does a backup. But with split apks, there are other APK files besides base.apk, like one for the app's language (split_config.en.apk) or the cpu type (split_config_arm64_v8a.apk) and the screen resolution (split_config.xxhdpi.apk).
So, since TB does NOT backup these extra apk files, these files will be missing when you do a restore with TB and thus the restored app will crash when you try to run it.
Luckily there is a new open-source backup app that works well with Slit-apks on Android 8+:
GitHub - NeoApplications/Neo-Backup: backup manager for android
backup manager for android. Contribute to NeoApplications/Neo-Backup development by creating an account on GitHub.
github.com
And I think it's better then Swift backup because:
1) Swift backup requires your google account login
2) Swift backup throws errors if you block internet access to it for security reasons
3) Swift backup is not open-source, so it could go the way of TB in the future.
4) And OandBackupX is FREE

Those errors seem like there is a problem with xandbackupx not being able to gain root access.
When you first started OABX, it has a bunch of cards where each card requires a different permission on your device - did you go through each card/step and give all those permissions, including root?
Are you using android 8+?

Thanks for the reply,,, yes I checked all and granted all permissions, Iam on a11 firmware running a a12 rom Bliss, ,, I will mess with it some more with it , it looks really robust with alot of options so maybe one of the settings need to be ticked or maybe it's just this rom, it's not a big deal as I have the other one to fall back on until I do some more testing
