[Q] Network and storage issues + Google services crashing - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I woke up today and after about an hour I wanted to open the Play store when it immediatly crashed after opening it. After trying to reboot the phone trouble started.
- My Nexus got stuck in a boot loop (I should probably tell I was running the Google L beta (the one which was out for a while not the newly released 5.0 preview), let it run for over 30 minutes and still nothing, even after a few tries.
- Decided to flash the stock 4.4.4 image from the Google developer website and I got it to work again.
- After I reconfigured all the settings I noticed I didn't have any network: no calls, no text messaging, no LTE, 3G, etc. Also Google play services and other apps weren't working and immediately crashed (camera and gallery).
- I decided to reflash the radio image but without succes.
- After reflashing the stock image a few times I decided to try different versions, so I tried 4.4.3. Still no network.
- Then I tried to flash the newly release 5.0 preview, but that too got stuck in a bootloop (even after going to recovery mode and cleaning the cache, wiping all data).
- So after doing this for a few hours without any luck I thought maybe a custom ROM like Cyanogenmod might work. Things got worse. I noticed when trying to paste the CM image on my device (via windows/usb cable) I was unable to acces my folders. (see images)
- Trying to use the CM installer (from get.cm) resulted into trying to download the installer (APK file) and getting the error 'No SD'. Just that. This also happens when I try to install any other APK. So basically not being able to acces the play store or being able to download single APK's from Google leaves me with all standard apps... Which isn't alot.
- USB drivers are OK (can post pictures if needed). Reinstalled them anyway.
I tried 4.4.0, 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 using fastboot without any succes.
So yeah i'm pretty stuck, any help is really appreciated. I tried so many different topics on these forums and others its just getting worse with each method I try to fix the issues.

I did that, this is where the network issues and Google play crashes started.

I would ask in the L developer release Q&A thread. I believe it can cause similar issues, but I don't know them myself. Those guys in that thread may tho.
You probably need to format your partitions fully before flashing or something along that lines.

I asked it there, thank you for your response.

It's an IMEI issue that's unrelated to Android Lollipop as far as I know.

I can't seem to get this ROM to flash. The flash process fails quickly with a non-descript error message:

I'm using TWRP 2.8.1.0 and I tried flashing the latest nightly as well as the stable version. I verified the MD5 signature after copying the .zip to my SD card. I also did a full wipe with TWRP.
My phone is the i727R with Gingerbread 2.3.5. Do I need to update to the latest official 4.x firmware from Rogers before I try to flash with AOSPA?
Any other suggestions or hints? This is my first time trying to flash a custom ROM, so I'm probably doing something wrong.
Figured it out, didn't have the latest radio installed. Might want to add that to the instructions for noobs like me. It's easy to overlook because the note regarding the firmware is under the "contributors" heading, separate from the basic instructions.
camera doesn't work
Camera is not working for me, but everything else is fine. And pretty darn smooth!
Issue installing
I am attempting to install this using CWM and the installation of the ROM goes perfectly but then when I go to install the GApps, I keep getting the insufficient space error. I have tried Mini, Micro and Nano as well as reformatted the internal memory. Thoughts? Sorry for the ignorant post.

To be clear, I am talking about the 5.0.2 ROM not the 4.4.4 ROM. The 5.0 thread would not let me post there and redirected me here for some reason.

I'm not sure if CWM is compatible with the GApps. I recommend using TWRP instead.
But I have used CWM for GApps for all my ROMs so far and it hasn't been an issue. Why would this be different. My understanding is that it is just a space issue so I am wanting to know if there is a way to get this space issue resolved when even the smallest GApps was still too large (supposedly).

Different recovery
Why did this rom install cyanogen recovery, this recovery sucks and I cant get to any of my backed up roms because it doesnt give me an option, how the hell do I get back to philz?
Trouble updating
I installed the 1/16/2015 version (PA 5.02) plus nano gapps. Most things seemed to work well, and I like the look and feel, but two or three times I have experienced periods where the battery drains even though connected to a charger. This morning, for example, the phone had been on the charger all night and was fully charged. Without disconnecting it from the charger, I checked my email and then put the phone back down. An hour or so later, the battery showed low 90's percent, even though it showed that it still was plugged in.
Yesterday I tried to update to the 2/2/2015 version. After making a backup with TWRP, I installed the 2/2 zip. I have flashed several ROMS, so I am not a complete noob, but I have never done a zip upgrade without factory reset. The upgrade seemed to succeed, but after booting, I had no gapps and my google accounts were missing. I then tried reflashing the same gapps and the systemUI fix. That got my apps back, more or less, but my google accounts still were missing and my home screen layouts all were lost. I then reverted to my pre-upgrade nandroid backup and tried again, by installing the 2/2 ROM upgrade zip, the gapps, and the systemUI fix all without rebooting in between. As before, after rebooting, my home screens were gone and (I think) my google accounts were gone. (By the way, I use the Google Launcher.)
Is upgrading from the 1/16 to 2/2 supposed to require reinstallation of gapps and adding back of accounts, home screen setups, etc? If it is then such an upgrade is almost as much hassle as a complete, clean install. Can someone tell me how this is supposed to work?
I installed the Lollipop rom (and the UI patch) and am still having "Can't connect to camera" issues. occasionally, rebooting the phone helps, but then if I do something like switch from the back camera to the front, it will stop working again.

There are issues with the gapps backup script, so the gapps package should be flashed with every ROM update. The loss of gapps most likely caused your accounts and home screen to be removed.

This should only happen when using the front facing camera. This will be fixed next update.
Bummer
Losing home screens and accounts every time an update is flashed is a bummer. Putting everything back (accounts, home screens, Power Toggles settings, ...) makes me hesitate to try an update very often.
You say the problem is with gapps. Does this same problem occur with all flavors of ROMs and all flavors of gapps? I ask because my previous experience with installing ROMs has been installation of new ROMs, not updates to one already installed.
Incorrect information in battery monitor - PA 5
I've been using (and generally liking) the PA 5 for several weeks. I have noted, however, that the breakdown of battery usage, as reported by the OS, seems inaccurate. As just one example, yesterday, I started a 15-minute call shortly after unplugging my phone from the charger, with a full battery. At the end of the call, I was down to about 90% battery. That seems reasonable to me, based on past experience. The battery monitor said almost all of my battery consumption was for Cell Standby, though, with only a little consumption assigned to actual phone use. I've seen some other examples where the usage breakdown did not seem right, although I did not document them and do not recall exact details.
Am I correct that this is incorrect behavior? Are others experiencing this (or does anyone pay attention to it), either on this ROM or on other ROMs?

Burst mode bug in camera!
hello,
I've been using cm 11 for a while now and one thing i have noticed to be really buggy is the camera,
when you set in the burst mode let's say 5 shots; instead of capturing 5 images instantaneously it focuses for every shot! and the whole meaning of burst mode is lost in the process. please do look into this issue in the next build.

It's not a bug, it's in your set up. When you go into the camera settings, go to "Focus Mode". It should give you an option called something like "fixed" or "continuous", etc. That'll keep it from refocusing between shots.
did not work.

Sharp Battery Drain
hi,
I've installed the latest build of CM11 by @thehurricaneguy coming from the older build of CM11 from the previous thread by @alteredlikeness.
Now after installing this build it the main problem for me was the battery sharply drains to 20% from 50-40%, i thought it was a battery problem and bought a new one it's the same for the new battery too, i thought i was the only one as it seems that was not the case.
Main problem starts here. i'm running CM11 on system 3 and it some how affected jb leak 3 too :C, i now have two batteries that drain to 20% from 50-40% on BOTH ROM's , after this issue I've deleted the system 3 and now run on 4.1.2 but the drainage remained the same.
i wiped the battery stats, cache, Dalvik Cache many times hoping that might fix it but to no avail.
>>>"I accidentally Erased my CID a long time Ago"<<<
i'm scared of doing a factory Reset and losing BMM ending up with a Bricked Phone, could any one help me resolve this battery drainage issue and how to restore CID with out a back up copy.
thank you

Hi Somcom3X, do you have any plans to build a Multirom capable TWRP recovery? I know this would also need an appropriate kernel with kexec to work. I have seen one for falcon, but not peregrine.
Can any one confirm SD support with the latest twrp? Does it format cache properly?

Excellent rom, so far it has solved many problems. I tested it with a lot of videos which looked slow in CM12 so far I haven’t had any closing of apps, I compare it about speed with Google Play Edition 5.1 XT1032. Excellent job, but I still find this line in the file built.prop, use.voice.path.for.pcm.voip=true, which has to be deleted on each update of CM12 for calls via WhatsApp, Line, Viber, etc. Again, good job and thanks.

Tnx,this was because I did a dirty flash, after I made a wipe data, sistem, cash, dalvik cash and internal , everything worked fine !
I just updated my XT1040 with the recently leaked OTA for 5.1 and wanted to root it again, so I used the TWRP-v2.8.3.0 in this thread.
as I went into recovery I was scared because yet again that now traumatic weird horizontal transparent line happened. From trying to get CM12 to work multiple times and failing I thought it meant I had ****ed up. Fortunately the recovery seemed to work fine, SD card and OTG visible and all. What caused this?
TWRP and PA and on Peregrine XT1039
TWRP ver.2.8.3
Paranoid Android ver.5.1
Thank you to all the developers they work together very well and give full access to sd card (TWRP).
Somcom3X many thanks for your work ...
Working fine on xt1039
The latest recovery is working on my XT1039, but I can only install zips via flashify - trying to install directly from TWRP causes my phone to crash completely. I also cannot access recovery from the bootloader, yet I can access it with either "adb reboot recovery", or advanced rebooting into recovery.
This is fine, although flashify only offers 3 flashes per day - which was a pain, but the latest Sabermod version no longer has a Google play services glitch so this is alright. P. S. This is on 5.1, which you say you don't support.
Good job for having a working recovery, I hope you can fix those two glitches!
Hey I've been using twrp for almost a year now but 3 days ago it stopped succesfully updating cm12.
I don't know whether that is a twrp issue or cm12 so I flashed the latest twrp from this thread without encryption.

Partition SD Card button is missing
Hi,
I flashed TWRP 2.7.8.0 on my XT1039. Everything seems to work except that there is no "Partition SD Card" button in the Advanced screen (there is a void where the button is supposed to be). TWRP sees the SD just fine and I had no problems making a backup on the SD card. Why is the button missing/hidden?

"Unfortunately net.aetherpal.device has stopped"
Whenever I receive a text message I get a message that says "Unfortunately net.aetherpal.device has stopped" any idea how to fix this?
just to clarify you just flashed the .zip files via TWRP and it worked? I have tried but it just keeps rebooting into recovery

use chainfire's app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.recently&hl=en
PS: it's not illusion, it's Lollipop...
PMA Charging
Hi was hoping that this fixed the wireless charging for me. The aosp lollipop roms work with it still but not the stock ones. Go figure. Any idea what the issue is?
So far so good , but I'm still have a problem with Good for Enterprise (gfe).
The program closes, without a crash warning or typical force close.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
done on my at&t d850 4.4.210c bumped and rooted. It's all OK ! Thank you !
Battery & performance
For those wondering what to expect in terms of battery and performance. Awesome Running so far! Had to disable lgsmartcover and weather. But got xposed running and all my favorites.
Anyone else getting random reboots?
Is the flashable zip uploaded anywhere else? My downloads have been stopping half way through or cannot open zip for the past 4hrs.
I have no reboots at all. Only downside is that email program Good does not seem to work.
I finally got gfe (Good for enterprise to work) but I had to unroot.
Dirty flashed from 10d and working great. I'm tempted to install Xposed, but only use a few options and don't want anything not working. So I'm wondering if anybody has non-xposed file edit solutions (without the need for extra apps)...
1) change battery icon / circle battery
2) hold back to kill app
3) enable call recording
4) add screenshot, flashlight, 4-way reboot from power menu

When i keep getting stuck in a boot loop. The only thing i did was unroot. Any suggestions?
Re: Stock LG D850 20F Lollipop 5.0.1
I wish to thank you for your help.
I bought my D850 G3 off of Swappa, & it arrived already updated to Lollipop. But not rooted.
I was going to try PurpleDrake, but found out it didn't work with Lollipop, so I searched around & found How to root LG G Flex 2, G2, G3 on Lollipop! by Max Lee on HighonAndroid.com. This was the first time I've had to use command line rooting, previously I've used Chainfire's Autoroot (who I haven't thanked enough) with Odin for Samsung phones. But this method didn't put a custom recovery, like TWRP, on my phone. So, I tried TWRP's app from Play store. Then Rashr, & Flashify, from Play store. They all claimed to flash TWRP, but didn't work. I didn't understand until I started Googling flashing TWRP on the D850 with Lollipop, & ran across your post. It worked the first time. I'm running a TWRP nandroid backup right now. I got kicked out of adb shell at least 3 or 4 times, I don't know if it was my phone or windows 7. I just went back into adb shell/ su, & pasted the next command directly from your post, thanx for the exact commands necessary. When I was finished, & kicked out of adb shell again, I left the phone alone for a few minutes before unplugging the usb cable, & rebooting a couple of times. When that worked ok, I booted into TWRP, & started my backup.
Thanx again,
Dave

I had been having relentless issues with the powermat disconnecting until I tried booting into safe mode (Hold down Power Off until it pops up as an option). I put it on the mat while it was booting up and it kept the connection even after the phone loaded up. I then turned the phone completely off and placed it back on the mat. It started up and has been working just as it did pre-Lollipop update. Since it is working on AOSP roms and not on Stock by default, maybe there is some driver or other issue that gets resolved after booting into safe mode. I did this 3 days ago and it has been working fine thus far.
Hope it helps.
Hi, I can install this version to a D850 10D ?
Hi just wondering if you have plans to debloat, tweak this Rom further.

Half bricked phone?

Recently, I have been able to download apps from the Google Play Store perfectly normal. Although I can not download from browser. When I try to download any kind of file from the browser I go to my downloads and it only shows it in the Queue. I am also unable to take a photo with the camera and go to the gallery to view it. I also can not transfer files through fast boot or recovery (I use Skipsoft Toolkit). Due to being unable to add any files I can not attempt to install a new rom, kernel, or anything else. Earlier today when I plugged it into the charger, it rebooted and kept starting up to where it said Google (screen you see even if booting into fastboot) and bootloop restarting at that point but I left it and it eventually started up. There have also been random reboots. All help will be GREATLY appreciated. Phone info below.
Android v 5.1
Device:LG Nexus 5 (Bootloader unlocked)(T-Mobile)
TWRP Custom Recovery (touch screen version)
Custom Rom (+ build number): xTrasmooth 5.0 LMY47I
Kernel:3.4.0 Franco
Hope that's enough info
[EDIT]: Would completely uninstalling Exposed framework help?
