[rom][apexq] aokp 4.4 - Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G

Please give it a shake-out and let me know if anything is missing. I'll be submitting for official AOKP support once everyone's reasonably happy with it.

Everything seems to work fine, I can't test everything of course but the thing I try work fine.
Thanks for your work

I'm seeing a persistent "select keyboard layout" notification. Haven't seen anything else yet.

When you touch you have to select as physical keyboard apexq qwerty and the message dissapear, its a known "issue".
The weird thing is why have two physical keyboards to select. I set twice as I said and never see this notification again

The notification was able to be dismissed.

I suppose. But the other thread had a few posts and then seemed to die. Which made it clear to me that I'll be the official aokp maintainer, at least for a while. So this is intended to switch to an official build discussion thread.

It's good to see AOKP on this device. If I recall, the previous build ran well but seemed to die off from lack of interest. No matter who maintains this - I hope it catches on. The Relay is a good device and deserves to see some love.

Alright the changes are in progress for official AOKP support. Check gerrit.aokp.co if you are a developer or just curious. I'll try to fix the keyboard notification and double check everything, then submit the changes. apexq should be in the next official nightly.

I noticed something with keyboard backlight, don't turn off when you open it unless you touch any key on it, you can look at it too

Any updates to this? I like AOKP, but the last post was ten days ago :/
Nervous on taking the plunge.

Dirk merged the changes so it's official. Just waiting for the next official build. I just started true nightly builds for select devices on basketbuild a few days ago. Here's the same for apexq: https://s.basketbuild.com/devs/tdm/nightly/aokp-4.4/apexqtmo/

Holy crap, I am LOVING this rom! I only found a few minor issues:
-Cannot change the vibrate for incoming messages. I usually have multiple short selected
-Typing out emoticons doesn't turn them into emoticons -p)
-The tiles come out kind of awful. If I set up a good configuration in landscape, you can hardly see them in portrait. Need an option to fit the tiles to one screen instead of simply "4 per row"

I think there are exposed modules that can fix both of these issues. Not sure about the emoticon thing tho.

Seems about the same to me. I'm at 76% after 3 hours. I'm not actively using my phone though.
I don't know what I was doing, but it dropped a good 20% over the next hour after that. Wut?

Nice ROM. Good job.
Questions:
1. Is there a way to set 180-degree rotation mode, in addtion to the others? All I've been able to find is rotation on/off, with "on" always providing 0, 90, and 270.
2. Is there a way to prevent the "Select keyboard layout" notification from showing up at every restart? I already have "sec_keypad" with "ApexQ QWERTY - Relay keypad" selected by default.
Thank you very much.

that battery is ugly, no offense, just not my taste

This rom is fast...its almost stock, except for the look, but all apps are stock..took like 6 or 7 mins to flash and boot the first time.
First weird thing i noticed: For some reason, in some places (like the time on the Notification bar or in the Lockscreen) its showing some weird square symbols.
Synchronization seems to work fine...at least Google contacts...Wifi seems to works fine.
Lockscreen is the rounded one, not the stock Eclair, wich i like more.
Multitouch works weird on the stock browser, but seems to work fine with Dolphin Browser.
When i try to send a SMS with the stock app, it FC.
No camera, its show a blank square, and when you hit "Settings" it FC.
Voice Search FC and Voice Dialer dont work, it dosnt FC tought.
Dosnt have live Wallpaper. 3D apps sucks (as always )
But still, its a FAST rom...not sluggish at all, thats a strong point...and its safe to flash.
I like look, the blue its a little bit too dark and sometimes you can get confused sometimes plus there are some mess up with the letters and background colors. Love the Bootscreen XD.
Tested the Chocolate version of the rom.
Overall look:
Fast and Stable rom, yet lots of things to work, but if he keeps this speed, its going to be a great rom.
For Daily use...i would say NO right now, but when he fix at least the characters mess up, it could be a daily use rom with limitations.
Here are some screenshots:
Hope it helps.

Are you planning on maintaining this rom or is this a one-off venture for you? I love how you and daproy whip out 10mb hacks for CM roms, you kinda made a name for yourself already so I wouldn't mind sticking with this, if there will be updates and refinements.

You can try 1.2.2 but any info besides "won't flash" might be useful.
I have some questions:
When you say "vanilla" do you mean stock or is it another theme. Have any screenshots?
Have you fixed the camera issue yet?
How many icon columns in the launcher? 4 or 5?
Thanks.

[Tweaks][KD1][UPDATED 9/2] Sduvick's Big Thread O' Tweaks v1.1 - PDT

As I continue to make random tweaks, they will be posted here.
All of these tweaks are built on KD1, you have been warned. It's possible that they may work on KG2, but I have not tested them, and it's very likely that they won't work on KG2.
All Tweaks v1.1 (Volume Tweak, Settings, Notifications, Joystick & 10 Second Notification LED Flash tweaks ):
http://www.multiupload.com/75796T1NQS
Volume Rocker vibrate and silent tweak
All credit to the original patch from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016556, I just added it to the framework.jar from KD1. This adds both the silent and vibrate options to your volume rocker, ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE VIBRATE SET TO "ALWAYS" OR "ONLY IN SILENT MODE" IN SETTINGS.
AS FAR AS I KNOW, THIS ONLY WORKS ON KD1.
I'm using/working on/with GingerClonev2, therefore I'm working with a KD1 framework.jar. If people care enough, I suppose I could patch the KG2 framework as well, but as of now it's bedtime, as I have to get up for work in the morning.
This should be CWM flashable, just flash and go, don't wipe, don't pass go, don't collect $200 (even if you really want to).

Full Bat & USB DEBUG & Joystick enable Tweak
This next tweak was just random stuff that bothered me. This will disable the "full battery notification" as well as the constant USB debugging notification.
Also, as the only real improvement with KG2 was the option to disable the optical joystick, this integrates that option into KD1, if you want to use this option, be sure to flash the Settings app below to control that option as well.
This may or may not work on KG2, if you're on KG2, test at your own risk, make a backup first

Settings Tweak
This is a settings.apk that has the DriveSmart, Notification Popup, Theme Manager, and Software Update menus removed, allowing the safe removal of those apps, as they are not really necessary/useful
This is a modified version of the KG2 settings, as it integrates the Joystick disable option, therefore it *should* work on KD1 and KG2. currently running on KD1.

As Samsung decided we only needed 1 min reminders that we have something to look at, many people (including myself) missed notifications frequently. Well no more! This tweak will change the flash rate from 1 min to 10 seconds.

i think he means like put each section in a gray box so it looks more organized by section instead of writing [volume].......[\volume] but i think its rather organized but could be a little better. if you just take the time to read then you can understand whats going on ha

Turns out, my brain doesn't really function very well after a long day, I couldn't find the box button, not realizing it was the quote box. I'll update the OP, thanks for the suggestions, they are noted and appreciated.
EDIT: OP updated with quote boxes, should be better organized now.
If there are any experienced kernel devs who wanna help out with porting the SK4G Kernel to 2.6.35, that would make CM much easier to port.
How do I install the settings tweaks in order to enable the option to disable the optical trackpad?
You can either flash the full package, or the joystick/bat/usb debugging and settings tweaks from the OP

I tried that, I can't find the joystick setting. I'm using a stock ROM that I ODIN'd last night back to KG1. Could that be why? Where would I find the setting if it's there? Perhaps I'm just not noticing it.
There's only KD1 and KG2, there's no KG1. It should be in Settings>Accessibility>Enable optical joystick
I have a request. The stock messaging app, (and notification popups and SocialNetworkingService Composer) doesn't recognize the enter key as well, the send key. Can that be fixed (even if just on one of them)?
I don't use any of those pieces, can you describe the issue in more detail? What should happen, and what does happen?
It's the stock messaging app on the stock kd1 firmware that ships with the sidekick. Basically, pressing the enter key on the keyboard gives a newline, instead of sending the message.

I believe you can enable that option in the settings of the stock messaging app.. but I'm using aosp MMS so I'm not positive
Edit: yeaa i dont think the sidekick messaging app allows that..

I dont know if this can be done though the sidekick has smooth transitions and such just the only thing that looks choppy is the notifications bar when you pull down which does seem a little choppy while other devices are smooth as butter. can this be tweaked on the sidekick?
Just curious... why would anyone ever want to disable the track-pad "joystick"? I mean, maybe if the keyboard had arrow keys like it should, but even then, it's pretty recessed and I've never hit it by accident, so why?

[Q] SKY ICS update 7 missing "select input method"

Hello,
Has anyone noticed that you no longer have the "select input method" notification in update 7? I had it in update 4. When I went over to update 7 (and subsequently 8), that option is missing. So the only way to change input method is to go all the way into settings. The notification is available after the base zx install, but the update wipes it out. Is there a simple setting somewhere to turn it back on? I searched in this and the dev forums and cannot find it.
Otherwise it's a great ROM. Thanks dev!
This is a one time thing. U don't change input method all the time on the fly. It is a bug none the less, but one that may only bother a select few users... maybe only u
Did the dev explicitly say that? GB was long press in the input part to bring up the option to change input method. I'm pretty sure the notification is ICS's replacement, as the stock Nexus does this. You have to explicitly turn it off in a custom rom. Some kind of shortcut is needed for many many multi-lingual users. I use English most of the time except for a chat app. Don't have to have the notification if bothers others, but a shortcut to bring up the dialog should definitely be available.
seanzscreams, can you please comment? It's a great ROM and thanks.

base to update changes a lot
I've noticed that the non-wipe updates on this ROM do change or eliminate some of the cooler features of the base. For instance, the settings in the base have the different colored, more detailed icons, while the update changes them all to boring blue.
As for the input method, I believe that in ICS, you change that under settings, language and input. In ICS, you can choose multiple keyboards or input methods, with one as "default". I haven't experimented yet, but perhaps the option to switch only shows up if you have multiple input methods selected? Can anyone verify this?
I'm new, so I hope this helps...
EDIT: Yeah, I tried checking off three different keyboards, but the long-press feature isn't there. Now I remember the notification bar change in ICS. The only way I can find to change the keyboard in this ROM is to go into settings and change the default. Not too bad of a task, but more tedious than before. There may be some shortcut apps in the play store that could help?
Isnt there an option on your status / menu bar... That's were it is in smooth ice

You'll make that in the next week.......!!
Thanks LPMatt and droid512. I know in most other ICS ROMs, including stock, the standard way to change input method is to use the little icon in the status bar. That's what I meant by "change input method notification". I also know you can always go through settings to change. To go through settings, I would have to get out of the app I'm using and it's a lot of hassle. Dating back to eclaire Android has provided the shortcut (used to be long press until ICS changed it to the notification/status bar). Looks like Sky ICS ROM latest update just disabled a standard feature, either intentionally or unintentionally. While icenight89 is quite knowledgeable in general, I think he's misinformed about the nature of the feature because he doesn't have to use different keyboards for different languages. It is indeed a standard feature in ICS, not a "one time thing" or bug. I don't have enough posts to post in the dev forum that's why I posted here to see if any other multi-lingual user of Sky ICS has encountered this. I have also PM'ed the dev.
I'm quite knowledgeable?? Aww shucks, thanks friend.
To be honest, u are absolutely correct, I am not a multi-lingual user so I did not even know this feature was present. Based on the discussion I assume your talking about a quick select shortcut from the drop down menu that let u change ur keyboard on the fly?
If that is so its quite possible and highly likely he disabled it in the latest update, as that feature would be present in either systemui.apk or framework-res.apk, all of which were updated in D-7. My advice? See if u can get D-6 off someone then flash the base, D-6 and then D-8 until he gets around to fixing it

See you just proved your knowledge in pointing out the 2 possible apk that is present I think D-8 probably has a new one so flashing D-6 then D-8 would overwrite it again. I'll see if I can pull those apk's and use rom kitchen to make a new one until he gets around to changing it. Who knows, it's possible he did it on purpose as i have seen people complain about it since ICS came out. Most non-multilingual users find it annoying. I actually do too. I prefer the old long press way! Thanks again.
nope, just checked. He only changed the framework-res.apk in the D-8 update. What i suggest you do is pull systemui.apk from the original base first and replace it with root explorer. If that fixes it then you can safely flash the new update rom kitchen just the one apk.

Well tried to put systemUI.apk from zx2 base and didn't work. I guess I'll see if dev will respond or put it back in later. If not, I'll have to decide if the hassle is worth it or change to another ROM. Thanks everyone.

[Personal Review] Galaxy S7 edge Nougat beta firmware

Hi guys here you have a proper review of the Nougat firmware for the S7 edge based on my personal experiences.
So I installed it yesterday night via odin thx to @laimonas777.
With my own experiences I can say it is not as nice as I had thought.. It's hard to use, it's full with small bugs and delays and sometimes it can even freeze up to 30 seconds (My experiences).
Every app has got the new GraceUI of the Galaxy Note 7 including the settings app.
One of the best Nougat features, the display scaling option has got "only" 2 different options which do not differ that much from the standard option.
Let's talk about the Notification panel. You now have 6 toggles visible at the top but you cant swipe anymore. When you pull the statusbar twice you will see 9 toggles per page. Its much harder to find one toggle you are searching for because of the 3 toggle pages. On Marshmallow all toggles were visible in one "page".
Also the colors could have been better but I think everyone has its own opinion there.
Something which is also weird is that you have a search bar on the notification panel but actually you cant type anything in there. Instead, this textfield will just open the finder app.
The camera has got newer options and a totally different but perfect UI which I really like. But the new color modes are actually not that important features and were also aviable partially in 6.0.
Lets move on to the recent apps panel, which is a big pain.. The recent items got taller just like in stock nougat but the scrolling is a very big pain. Its just as the android nougat developer preview 1 for nexus devices also there are some minor graphical glitches which I have shown in the video.
Another thing I want to mention are the notifications. And yes, they are ugly but i am sure samsung will fix that. On every notification where you can tap for an action (example whatsapp, to reply) is a grey bar, which looks horrible. You can see it in the attached ss
Performancewise it hasnt got big changes but dont forget the delays when opening some specific apps etc. The battery consumption is also a bit higher but all these will get fixed with the final build (hopefully).
But now lets talk about the positive things :silly:. The Multiwindow option has got much better than it was on all other touchwiz versions, in short, its almost the same as in stock android nougat. Another thing which is perfect is the Window apps mode where you can open apps in window mode. We all know how bad this option was in Touchwiz, maybe no one of you ever have used it but now the window mode is very good and snappy. The negative thing there is that you cant deactivate these both modes anymore. So always when you try to pull down the notification panel from the right or left top corner, it will just open the current app always in window mode which is quite annoying.
And something which is annoying like hell is that if you play a game like doodle jump where you dont need to touch the screen the screen always turns off after a while. So the auto screenoff option doesnt get disabled while playing games or (maybe) even while watching a movie.
Galaxy Labs is now removed, so now you cant get all apps on your homescreen and you cant hide the appdrawer.
Remember that this is a very early beta build, and all of these bugs are normal and wont be there in the finale build.
Here is a quick video about the update to see how it looks
What about a dark theme...it was rumoured that Android N will have a dark theme not only that light one. Also the existing themes in store (for Samsung) work properly on N or not?
Sent from nowhere over the air...

Keep in mind this is the frist beta released from samsung, so some things might hopefully change by the release of the final firmware. Also, you do have scaling other than going through the developer options. Go to Display -> Font and you will get to cgoose both the Screen zoom (which is set to almost huge idk why) and of course the font size. This comes to be as tha Normal and Condensed options back from marshmallow.
Hey glad to help. nice rview my friend. . :good:
P.S What happened to the hand?
I'm using the ota build and its running lovely to be fair
Touchwiz is rubbish anyways and just install nova which makes Icons smaller

thanks for the corrections, in stock nougat there is an extra option for the display scaling. I didnt look in the font scale thought its just the normal font scaling
Hello, thank you for great review. Could you confirm one exciting feature of android 7 (atleast for me) that it works on this phone beta software.
As of Android 7.0 phone can read 2G/3G/LTE frequency without ROOT. Easiest way is to install app Cellmapper(mapping cell towers to map) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cellmapper.net.cellmapper&hl=en
Could you run this app and post screenshot while connected to LTE only(no wifi)? Also, maybe send debug report from settings menu to developer with screenshot.
Thank you

Strange review .... I have been using it also since yesterday, and it is faster and smoother then my MM stock ...
Agreed there is some laggs when double tapping the multi tasking bouton, but overall its snapier and more responsive.
Also I have not noticed any freeze. I find this beta very polished to be honest.
Have you done a full wipe before installing ? or OTA ?

Thank you. Does not seem to report more info than in android 6.0.1. If you see LTE band reported on Cellmapper screen you can make another screenshot, but it seems that this functionality might not be there.
It's not a review, it's a rant. I literally have no issues with it, no freezes what so ever, it's actually snappier than MM.
I think the 'review' tag should be removed from this thread or it should be locked, as it is full of false information and the corrections to that false information have been given, but the 'review' hasn't been updated. If people read this thread thinking it is accurate, they will get false information.
The comment about display options, for instance, is just the OP not knowing what to do. It's not something wrong or an option that has been removed, it's just a lack of knowledge.

Yeah, I don't get that with any app. The only thing a bit laggy is the "new window" tab animation in the browser and the notification bar. Apart from those two things, it is fine.

Touch screen responsiveness in ROMs and GSI's

Some of you may not notice, but I'm sure there are a few that do. Touch screen responsiveness on custom ROMs or GSI's for Mata is working, but is definitely not as fluid as stock.
Easiest way to tell is just typing on the keyboard and taking note of the shot delay in between touches. For me, I type fast, and this causes spelling mistakes often, because the touch screen (on a ROM or GSI.) doesn't register as it does on stock.
Next is mobile gaming. Touch seems to be a total hit and miss here, and sometimes won't work at all unless one finger is already on the screen. That's not a big deal, because a simple reboot fixes this temporarily. This was fixed a while ago here, if I recall correctly:
https://review.lineageos.org/c/LineageOS/android_frameworks_native/+/198809
Overall I am hoping to find a fix for this touch responsiveness issue. It effects a ton of aspects of this phone and prevents me from staying on ROMs, and resorting to restoring backups to use my phone properly again.
I've tried messing with the build.prop, switching kernels, checked out various forums and attempted things I probably shouldn't have tweaked with, but still have had no luck figuring this out on ROMs or GSI's. Yet on Stock everything functions properly, and touch is no issue.
Can anyone shed any light on this at all? (To clarify there are 2 issues here: general delay in touch, and touch screen not working after a while on games.)
Hi, I just flashed gsi rom yesterday and also found it more laggy than stock. I tried to search for a way to improve it but failed. Please let me know if you find a way to solve this problem.
Actually I flashed it just to make the stasus bar shorter and make it possible to disable navigation bar. I may change back to stock if I find any method to do so on it.

Still trying different things, but so far no luck, touch remains a bit laggy. Gonna try something later though, are you currently on a GSI with Root?
In: system / usr / idc there should be some .idc files, I wonder if there are some entries on stock that aren't in GSI's or ROMs?
I dunno, just shooting in the dark here.

Yes,I rooted it. I just checked idc folder of my stock room restore, there are no more but 1 less idc file in the stock rom. I copied the entire idc folder to main storage, restored the gsi room and replaced it. I don't think it makes obvious change,at least did not make the touch screen as good as the stock.
But I did flash elemental-x kernel after flashing gsi. It might have make it better? Maybe I just got used to the sensitivity of gsi but you may try to flash the kernel and replace the folder, see if any changes are noticed.
I'm running the latest HavocOS GSI build with the neutrino gemini kernel. Also using Ex Kernel Manger so the settings will stick or can be changed. No touch lag or the like on my end. Very smooth.

Is the status of Havoc OS as high and wide as the stock room? Or is it just normal size as on other Android devices? Considering transfer to it.

Unfortunately, the latest build of HavocOS is from October 27th. However, you can still use the latest December firmware/security update from Essential.
There is one bug with it, at least for me and others, and it's the fingerprint sensor doesn't work for us. It doesn't show up in Settings either. It worked on previous builds, though. Not to knock the developer at all, as I appreciate the work that has been put in.
As far as the "normal size" you brought up... Are you referring to file size? If so, it's in the same ballpark as any other stock/stock-ish ROM that doesn't include gapps. I used Pico gapps, as I don't use many Google apps. Hopefully that answered your questions.

Thank you for your information!
I'm sorry I mistyped the question. Actually what I wanted to ask was the status bar, which bothered me a lot on the stock rom. I flashed to pixelexperience specially for changing the status bar height to normal (and being able to disable navigation bar completely). I don't know why it was so hard that I didn't find any way to do so on stock rom.

Oh, yeah, that's the other "issue" people have had with HavocOS on the PH-1. The status bar is very thin...About 50% too thin, and I don't know of any way to change it. It doesn't really bother me after getting used to it. I'll have to try out Pixel Experience, though. I do miss the fingerprint sensor working properly.

Thanks for the input, pretty sure I have already tried the Oct 27th Havoc OS with Neutrino and still had those touch issues with games, but I will give it another shot in case, did you by chance modify a few things with EX Kernel Manager?

The status bar is also thin pixelexperience if you care. Aside from the touch screen latency, I haven't noticed any other issue on this rom, so I recommend you give it a try.
Tried Havoc OS paired with Neutrino, and tweaked around with EX Kernel Manager last night for a while, but still had issues with touch on games and keyboard. Literally everything I have tried on custom installations has not helped improve touch responsiveness.
Come on, surely some random dev still lurks these forums who also notices these delays in touch. Would love to help solve this if I knew exactly where to start, and am willing to test or tweak to get this resolved.
No idea if this will help, but it's easy to try. In developer settings, find grip rejection and try toggling it on. Else, in the same place, try adjusting touch sensitivity.

Grip rejection and touch sensitivity aren't available in GSI's unfortunately, but even some ROMs that do include those settings still have delayed touches, and games eventually lose touch until you reboot on occasion.
Compared to stock, the only ROM that had touch working perfectly (like stock) was Kuran's AICP O. I suspect this has something to do with his kernel, but I am just speculating, I can't be sure on that one.
Then even on a GSI with a stock kernel I still get touch issues, so I have a feeling it has something to do either something in /system but then again, I'm still guessing.
But I appreciate the reply thank you for chiming in on this. ?
The only reason I suggested that "fix" was when I was running AOSiP Pie, that was the only way to get rid of the lag. Simply toggling the grip rejection solved the problem immediately.

Huh, last time I was on AOSiP Pie (maybe a week ago) I still had touch issues, but hell, for some awesome customization, maybe it's time for another try on that. Thank you, by the way, I really dig that signature of yours.

Edit: I think I may have gotten it figured, and at least narrowed down the issue. I Installed Havoc OS 10-27 again with Dec-patched-boot.img, then Neutrino Hercules over that, on both slots, changed CPU to performance and enabled touchboost, then added these lines to my build.prop and rebooted:
persist.vendor.qti.inputopts.enable=true
persist.vendor.qti.inputopts.movetouchslop=0.6
So far so good, touchscreen jank is gone, scrolling isn't bad at all, and best of all games seem way more fluid. Will continue to test it out.
Edit 2: So far so good games haven't lost touch, not even once, games are still fluid and there are literally no touch delays when gaming or typing. So either the kernel (with performance mode and touch boost on) or the entries I added to the build.prop have fixed this finally. Or both. So freakin' happy.
