Nexus 5 alternative choice

If the N5 doesn't live up to your expectations which phone would you prefer instead even if cost were not a factor?
Is there another carrier flagship phone that you are satisfied would be flexible enough for you to be able to do all of the following?
root, rom;
restore to stock rom if necessary;
return to store after restoring stock rom;
upgrade via carrier upgrade plan after restoring stock rom?
make a potential carrier warranty claim after restoring stock rom?

If the Nexus 5 doesn't list up to my expectations, I will go back to my Galaxy Nexus. It may not be the most state of the art device but with CM ROM's and faux123's kernels, I can't go wrong with it.

That's actually the phone I own also but I've got it pretty heavily loaded over the last 2 years. I really think I need at least another gig of ram to run well and a faster processor wouldn't hurt. The non-removable 2300 battery on the N5 is just a real disappointment. I've only owned nexus devices so far and I'm a bit concerned that a carrier flagship may not be flexible enough.

A non-removable battery might be a deal breaker for me. I like to be able to just swap batteries if needed. I sure hope it doesn't end up with a non-removable battery. I am not a fan of LG stuff in the first place and I avoided the Nexus 4 for various issues. With T-Mobile not announcing another Sidekick anytime soon, I need to upgrade. I don't like the physical home buttons on phones so that has kept me away from the S4 and other phones. My original Galaxy Nexus actually got damaged due to heavy rain I got caught in and I couldn't get another from my carrier. I ended up getting an S4 to trade my mother for her Galaxy Nexus.

To be honest, nothing beats the Nexus experience to me, and I can't even think of other choices with what I have experienced. When I think of a Nexus Phone I don't really give a huge deal for the hardware internals, because it's not really meant to be a show off with the latest hardware and the largest battery. Samsung soon will hit a 1000 cpu cores into their Exynos bully maybe, and yet their Touchwiz phone LAG and stutter. A properly minimally optimized OS over a good deal of hardware is what Google brings, not to forget the minimal design of the phone, and oh for a damn good price - I wouldn't ask for more.

I played with the LG G2 for over an hour, and decided it was too Samsung 'cheapie' plastic to suit me. The HTC One Max would be my next phone, despite an S600 chipset, based on durability and useability, and those speakers would come in quite handy at times.

If the Nexus is a no-go on Verizon I'll likely wait until the Moto Maker site goes live for VZW and at least get 32 gigs of internal storage. Feels really good in the hand and super smooth

+1 - love just been able to swap a fully charged battery. Extremely convenient... though from the leaks it looks very unlikely. Though I'm quite over my S4 atm and wanna try something different - the N5 looks like it could be a good choice.

That it does. That's why I have been looking forward to it. The camera sticking out a bit also bugs me about the phone also. These two things are bugging me very much. With the time I get out of my Galaxy Nuxus battery on normal use, it might be fine for me for normal daily use. If I need to go out of town though, camping, or some where I just can't get to a charger, I'll have to hold on to my Galaxy Nexus to make sure I've got something I can stretch out for a couple of days.
The wireless recharging for the Nexus 5 is something that really caught my attention as a good thing. Being able to just sit my phone down on my desk when I get in and have it charge is awesome! The screen also looks very nice for slightly under 5 inches. Hopefully the announcement and launch kicks off today.

Who buys carrier branded crap phones with their ugly logos ... Nothing can beat a Nexus in Android world.

yeah me too about the battery thing. I like to have a removable batt so I can buy an extra and swap it if my other one drains. But I think powerbanks are also helpful for non-removable batteries as well. #confusing hahaha

The Nexus has always been a developer only phone. But as it is for the camera that megapixels don't matter, so it is for the battery that the mAh won't matter. We have previously seen that the phones with an extra large capacity battery yet not perform as per the expectations. Atleast Google doesn't stuff their phones with bloatware like Samsung. A Nexus always comes with a minimal OS coupled with a balanced hardware at an unrivalled price. A non-removable battery & no expandable memory have always been the let downs, yet 32GB is enough for me for storage & a battery lasting just over a day is well enough for me. Nexus ftw !

I'm currently on an OG Note, recently bought a new battery and I have little problems with it. I'm mainly bored with it now and the USB port has some problems (€10 to fix). Minor issues and I'm sure I could use the phone for another year without ever really being bothered by it. I don't play games, so I don't really need all that raw power the new devices have. I have been looking for a new device for some time, just to have a new gadget and all.
I work for HTC indirectly so I have a One lying around here that I can use, but I can't root it so I have no use for it. I can't get used to the new Sense and their strange softkey layout (though that's more the fault of developers that don't keep to the design guidelines of Android, than it is HTC's).
I also had the S4, which I liked overall, but I found it too expensive, it had useless functions which I didn't want to pay for. Especially since you lose a lot of them when you put a stock rom on it. It has an AMOLED screen which, after two years of the Note, I'm not very happy about (uniform colours are a pain, and it degrades too fast). And it looks just like any other Samsung device (and I'm bored now). - I did get hooked on the infrared functionality though. I miss that every day.
Then the Z1 came along, looked refreshing and the waterproof stuff is a giant pro. Useless camera, but the rest was pretty good. Unfortunately the screen dissapoints.
So now I'm waiting for the Nexus 5. Absolutely no useless functions. Just a good and powerfull device that can last for another two years. No screwing around with roms and stuff and a good price.
If it dissapoints, I might go for an S4 as they're now in the pricerange of the Nexus 5 or I'll stick to the Note for another year, to see if something better comes up.

If not the Nexus 5, I'd go for the Oppo N1.
With out of the box CyanogenMod, IPS 5.9 inch display, and top-notch camera optics and dual user-controllable flash.
I have (had) the S4 and sold it today. I was extremely dissapointed with it in just about every way, and with the addition of Knox locked bootloaders being sneaked in by Samdung, that iced the "sell it now" cake for me.
I'm actually back to using the SIII in the meantime, and even with piss-poor driver support, it runs CM very well.

my choise is between Nexus 4 or Nexus 5

Actually, as far as the hardware goes, I am quite impressed with g2. That display seems so much larger than other phones of the same physical dimensions. Battery, processor, storage, etc. no limitations except no wireless charging. (except verizon version)
A play edition would be very tempting. Unfortunately it doesn't seem likely with the N5 being a somewhat close cousin. If the N5 had the exact same g2 hardware it would be a no-brainer for me even at a much higher cost.

[Q] Guide to choose between Nexus 5 and Nexus 7

Hi,
I am currently using Galaxy Nexus phone and want to buy a device for my emails and other personal stuff on the go.
Thinking about two options --
1. Retain the Gnex and buy new Nexus 7 tab. Then use Gnex for calls only and N7 for rest. I am not sure how feasible it would be to maintain multiple device. If anyone is currently doing same then please share your experiences.
2. Replace Gnex with N5 as a final option.
Please share your thoughts.

Being a former gnex owner, get an N5... You know you want it. If anything you will get a tab with KitKat and just wish your phone performed like it. I loved my gnex so much but it doesn't even compare to the N5. Everyone in the gnex forums who say they don't need to upgrade because their phone runs KK fine and it's just as fast as any phone on KitKat with custom kernel and perfect kernel settings are fooling themselves. Sad to say, but true. Oh you can manage 5hr SoT with the gnex? Yeah with screen locked @ 20%, sync off, NFC off, location off, connected to WiFi/airplane mode, etc. I get 7hr SoT average with all that left on.
I loved my gnex because it was a nexus, my first nexus. The freedom to mod it was unmatched by any other phone I've had before. The members on the gnex forums were awesome and helpful and I learned a lot...
...but that was like 2 years ago. The phone is old and it shows it. I loaded KK on my old gnex after a month+ of using the N5. Gnex can't quite keep up and trying to use it is frustrating for me now.

Plus all- or at least most of those (non)issues have already been addressed in new batches.
You won't find the battery underpowered. Like I said it craps all over the gnex battery. If you're coming from a gnex, you will most likely praise the battery life of this phone.
Weak generic antenna? I never noticed this. I had crappy service on T-Mobile, but I can walk almost 30ft outside my house and still be connected to WiFi and load pages. No boosters or anything, just normal ATT u-verse modem/router.
The speaker has its issues, granted. There is a hardware mod in the forums to fix this. If you are uncomfortable opening up your device, you could always RMA it for a model that has fixed speakers. New batches address rattling buttons & speakers AFAIK.
Weak vibrate motor... I am not sure about stock, but most, if not all custom kernels over here set the default vibration to 63%... 63/100. Just use your favorite kernel control app to turn it up. If that isn't the case there are reported defects in some N5's with the vibration motor. Again, RMA your device back to Google if you believe you got a defective model.
And oh my cheap plastic build? OK that does it lol. You have got to be kidding me. Did you ever even own a gnex, dice? This phone feels great compared to it. The gnex is a cheap plastic model. I won't even get into this. It makes me question if you have ever even held an N5, or just troll our forums.
Don't let this chump scare you away. It's legit. Tablets are cool I guess, but why carry an almost 2 year old phone + a 7 inch tablet? When the N5 does the function of both!

I think you should get both the N5 and N7 and keep the Gnex live. I have both the N5 and N7, and my Nexus One as a second phone, all running KitKat 4.4.2. It's awesome.

If you're still good with the Gnex for just phone duties I would actually say the N7 tablet. N5 is an amazing phone but tablets are just more useable for everything except phone calls and you wouldn't have to have one device to do everything which is when the N5 battery shows it's weakness.

Recommend the G pro 2? Would you buy again? What's to know?

I've kept my eye on the G pro 2 for a while (was about to get the original O G pro, but waited for this to come out). So I'm well aware of the specs, features, reviews, etc. But what I want to know is a real world user's opinion of the device.
Is the phone pretty decent? Any frustrations or quirks to know before trying to get one?
Key questions:
*How is the Mic/voice quality? (sending and receiving during a voice call)
*How is the battery life(I know it depends on usage and habits of the user, but just overall, how would you rate it personally, compared to other current/comparable Android phones)?
*Is it relatively stable and responsive?
*What bothers you about this phone?
*Would you buy it again if you were in the market for a new phone right now?(tells me that you like the phone and are overall happy with it)
I plan on getting a F350(a bit confused with the S/L/etc. acronym endings, can any one shed light?) I want to use it on at&t's network. On paper, and seeing professional reviews, the G pro 2 seems like my phone (1080p 5.9" screen, expandable memory via microsdhc, user replaceable battery, decent camera, etc.) But I want to know, if in practice, the phone is stable/frustration free(relatively speaking), decent real world battery life (if it's competent/comparable at least.. ), hoping that this is not one of those, "you have to root it and install a custom rom in order for this phone to be bearable"- type thing.
My other considerable is the Sony Xperia Z2 (prices are right, even though the screen is smaller and the battery isn't "replaceable"). I didn't want the Samsung Galaxy series due to the smaller screens and bloatware they put on there(note's a great series, but simlar.. bloatware, plus really expensive).

these are my questions too..

I came from a Samsung S3 (running CM).
first impressions were: Nice clean looks and lines, it's big (but it's not unwieldy). my wife has a Note 3 and it's about the same. the curve along the back sides makes it more comfortable to hold. Obviously, it's a heavier phone due to size, so your hand might get tired if you're one to use your phone lying down or something.
Screen is fantastic. I have no problems with colour issues with the screen and it's bright enough for me, even outdoors.
Battery life is good. standby can last more than a day. in usage, i was a bit busy yesterday and didn't use it too much, but from 0700 to 2300, i had 63% before i plugged it in. on a more typical day, I'd probably have around 40%. mainly a mixture of whatsapp, a few blogs, games and some TV show watching at lunch.
Camera is decent and acceptable auto focus speed. not a lot of bloatware.
I'm running 10e firmware due to bugs in 10f and waiting for lollipop. 10e is stable. not had problems with it.
problems: it's not widely available and the user base is small. so don't expect any fancy mods/firmwares or anything like that. as such, there's not a lot of accessories for it either outside of LG's own stuff.
My friend has the Z2 (not looked, but isn't the Z3 pricing nearly the same now?), and his camera is better and the battery life is longer due to Sony's Stamina software. display is about the same. If you want a big, stock phone, the LG is great. if you want to play around and like to customise your phone, then i'd go with the Sony.

I'm on the fence between the two phones, I like the bigger screen on the G pro 2, I haven't held one yet in person, but I don't think I"ll be bothered by it at all. Only thing that really entices me for the Z2 are the current prices for it right now.. for relatively similar specs, smaller screen, but better camera compensates. Honestly, I want the device to work well out of the box.. this is xda and I do play with custom firmwares and roms, but that's more of a result than a mission for me these days.. as in, if the unit runs better/faster/more stable compared to stock(or.. if stock is so horrendous that it must be rooted and flashed to be "decent").

Ive been using this phone pretty much since it came out (D838 rooted stock) and the stock Performance is fantastic if im honest it really doesn't need a custom rom unless you want to "mod" alot of things and even then as long as your careful theres still alot you can do with just root, i love this phone so much and its modified enough for my liking without a rom, its fine right out of the box and if you can live without a custom rom (which is really doesnt need that much) i think you'll be as happy as i am with this phone on stock with or without root.
But yes if you do like to flash and mess about alot go with the z2/note3 as there is more options there but this is still a brillant phone.

Thanks a lot for the assurance. I'm still bouncing around phone options, I guess it just comes down to price (best bang for buck, with expandable memory at least). I'm still considering the G pro 2, but I saw how the GS note 3 has come down a lot in price.

I've had both and granted you can mess around with roms and stuff but for pure joy in use i much prefer the g pro 2 its a really really good phone and for the low price you really cant beat it in my opinion unless this phone gets a good recovery and cm11 ill never bother with costom roms ect. For me its perfect on stock the peformence is amazing, to date (about 6 months of owning this phone) the battery still amazes and im yet to see any lag ever!! The ui is amazing, for a phone out of the box you cant beat it if you like music it outputs brillantly im just in love so maybe im a little one sided but i hope whatever you do you will be happy! Let me know!

I only can agree with that!
I did get mine last week and i am very happy with it! Came from Galaxy Note 2 wich i liked very much but i dont trust Super Amoled Display technology since noone grants you that it will operate more than 3 years with heavy use. I chose this device because it has similar dimensions as the Note 2, stronger hardware, bigger 1080p reliable IPS LCD screen and fabulous 3200 mAh battery.
It's a must have for phablet lovers that want to have a good performing phone with large screen.
After just a few days of use this is my opinion. On software side is everything ok, just the usual Kit Kat problem that bugs lots of users out here, tha lack of having permissions for apps to write to sd card. That was the only thing that bothered me, but thats on Google side. This phone is truly amazing!

I really like the phone and want to get it, but for me the G pro 2 shipped from Asia to the US (I need the F350 model for LTE compatibility), it's about $600, I'm going to wait out just a little longer, it's a bit out of my budget (was hoping to score a phone for less than $450.. Sony Z2 and ZU did fit that for me, but not anymore either, haha).
I'm glad to hear that it's a great phone though(G pro 2), hopefully the prices will come down a bit for the F350 model and I can obtain one soon. Thanks again to all who have contributed!

The things that bother me about this phone are the poor wifi signal, I can be within a meter of my router and it still fluctuates between 3 and 4 bars. Any less than 4 bars wifi signal seems to have a noticeable impact on browsing performance. I also find the mobile data hotspot a pain, every so often the connection would hang and you would have to turn data off and back on again to get it to work. It seemed to do that every hour or so. Also if the phone gets even minutely warm, the brightness level will restrict itself to between 80% and 90%. I have had 3 LG G Pro 2 and they have all been the same. I also notice some flickering at times, especially when there is a white background on a webpage. I am almost fed up of mine and looking at selling it soon. It does have the potential to be a good phone, and I think all the faults I mentioned could be fixed with a decent firmware update.

I agree with you on wifi reception, its been the worst amongst all the phones i have owned

Me and my S6 " The love hate love relationship"

I've always had an android phone. My love relationship with them started with Verizon and the Moto Droid. Needless to say flashing roms and rooting phones is part of the reason I but phones.
I'm not a big fan of the progressive size increase in cell phones, but I owned a fee large phones. My wife got and iphone 6 dividing our house a few months ago and while I would not get an iPhone, I marvelled at how is was small and manageable. Yet able to perform any task and take great pictures.
So I sold MY white LG g3 to get a blue 64gb S6. I rooted it immediately and it was quite impressive. It offered all of the things I like about the iPhone 6 and a great fingerprint scanner. I have two young boys and a selfish obsessed wife and the cameras on this phone are great. So great my wife takes pictures with my phone when we are out.
One day I decide I want a white S6. So I purchased one on Swappa.com and sold mine there as well. I confirmed that it still had a root able version of lollipop, but when I get the phone the seller upgraded the phone the day he shipped it. So I tried to rock with the unrootable S6 checking everyday to see if OF1 version of lollipop had been rooted. I hated the phone. For anyone that is stuck with a S6 on stock OF1, I understand your pain. In my opinion Samsung is losing money because of restrictions on the stock version of this phone. So I'm currently selling that phone on Swappa.com for reasonable price.
I went and purchased a gold 64gb S6 and it came rooted and the feel if the phone is night and day. The speed it just how I remember the phone a drunken my battery life is sick. With stock OF1 I would only average 11-14 hours with maybe 2-3 hours of screen time. This is my first day with the rooted s6 and I'm currently at 11 hours and 2 hours of screen time with a few restarts to flash different themed items and I still have over 40% of battery life left.
My recommendation is that of you love the form factor of this phone and everything else it has to offer and you are stuck on OF1 version of lollipop, sell your phone to get a root able version of the s6. You will practically break even with the swap.

So I tried to rock with the unrootable S6 checking everyday to see if OF1 version of lollipop had been rooted. I hated the phone. For anyone that is stuck with a S6 on stock OF1, I understand your pain. In my opinion Samsung is losing money because of restrictions on the stock version of this phone. So I'm currently selling that phone on Swappa.com for reasonable price.
I went and purchased a gold 64gb S6 and it came rooted and the feel if the phone is night and day. The speed it just how I remember the phone a drunken my battery life is sick. With stock OF1 I would only average 11-14 hours with maybe 2-3 hours of screen time. I've been thinking of selling my rooted S6 so I can leave Verizon. I didn't see any other White 64GB S6s that were rooted on Swappa so I wonder if there's a decent demand.

I love almost e everything about the phone and it is rooted the biggest main issue i have is it lags alot for me. Yes i have a decent amount of apps but my m8 is set up exactly the same and it doesn't lag at all even with just 2 gigs of ram. And my other issues which this is mainly because of verizon is development is almost not there. I am grateful for the roms we do have but it still takes away from the phone for me somewhat.

I HATE my s6. The cell reception is fine, I'm lucky enough to be rooted as well, but this thing is junk IMO. Don't get me wrong, the camera is ok and it was the primary reason to get this phone. I use it daily for pictures and it performs pretty well actually. The fingerprint reader works pretty fast most of the time as well, but I would absolutely 100% not buy this phone again or recommend it to anyone else. Even during pictures this thing is hot and battery life is unimpressive. Yes wireless charging is included, but once again super hot while charging as well.
Battery life got much better after root and the screen is amazing, but I'm jumping ship here in a few months, I actually consider it a downgrade from my LG G2 except for the camera

I miss my HTC ONE M8. Totally rootable, totally customizable. Love the specs on the S6, but Verizon is making a huge mistake locking their phones down. It's the antithesis of Android, Linux, and open source in general.

Yea I guess I should of clarified on that one, it was a long day
-The lack of a removable battery is a killer. My battery drain is pretty serious and needs charging throughout the day. Eventually I will need to swap that battery....
-My two S6s have both lagged from day 1. Removing bloatware helped but still laggy. Have to clear our app caches once a week or so.
-The camera lens is elevated from the back of the phone and makes it not lay flat well. Not a biggie, but annoying.
-Touchwiz.... I hoped we would have CM by now or something close but its a big setback.
Most of the other issues I have are software related and would be fine when/if we can unlock the bootloader. I've come to learn over the years that a waterproof phone is a big advantage here in Florida too, my gf's old S5 was actually just used during the last flood we had and was great. I guess I agree with the OP, it is a love/hate, just mine is more hate than love.

I agree with the camera lens. I like cases but hate that I need a case to protect that.
My battery gets me through and average day. But that is always a user experience. I can see how it wouldn't be enough for many users.
I've never hated it but there are days where I am less impressed than others. Where TouchWiz shows its ugly side. Hopefully whenever you get next works out better for you

Yea it seems so I'm only stuck with it for a few more months and the gf and I are both bailing. Its a shame too because these phones are damn sexy too lol. Right now I'm stocked up on wireless chargers and have them strategically placed around work and home and it seems to be working out ok. Its not too terrible since there are no plugs to charge.

Came from a rooted s4 with xposed to the g6 and I feel lost. The g6 gets good battery life and works just fine but I am having major Bluetooth issues between that and sync for my car that I never had with the s4. I will do better research before making my next purchase. I don't care how good the camera is etc... If the boot loader is locked down I will purchase a different phone. Not everyone wants to use samsungs bloat ware. Also if I want to turn the volume up and blow my ear drums out I don't need a visible warning to appear telling me I might do that....I can hear just fine Samsung....

I'm pretty sure the BT is a known issue. Does anyone know if the update fixes that? I know I cant get more than 5m or so from my phone before it cuts out. I used to get almost double that with my G2. I agree with you on the headphones warning too lol. Almost as bad is the Verizon crap it tries to install each time you hook it up to a computer. I flashed the fix but it sure was annoying waiting on root first. Guess we can blame V for the bloatware too.

Who has made the jump to Nexus 6P?

If anyone has, please share your views. I for one don't see how the 6P is better other than the fact that it has a terrific camera. But the other things are pretty much what we get on the OPO. Isn't it?

Hi there, I immediately jumped ship once the 6P came out, and have been loving it.
I don't use the camera much, but there are 4 things that have stood out since getting it:
1. It feels sooooo much better in the hand.
It's slightly wider, but not really that noticeable. The metal feels much better than the sandpaper of the 64 gig OPO, and the device is just well constructed all around.
2. All the fingerprints!
The fingerprint reader is freaking great! At my work we have to encrypt and lock our phones if we want to connect to the exchange server, and having the fingerprint reader means I am not constantly typing in my pin code, and that reader is FAST.
3. NO FINGERPRINTS!
Seriously, I don't know how this miracle was pulled off, but when I had the OPO, I was cleaning it all the damn time, and it would immediately get dirty again. I swear I don't have any gloves made of pizza, but I feel like that wouldn't even be a big deal on the 6P. Whatever mixture of Olympian sweat and unicorn tears they coated this glorious screen with works like a freaking charm, because I rarely have to consciously clean the screen. Most of the time, just being pocketbound is enough.
4. It works as intended.
This might not affect everyone, but for the two OPO's I ordered, (one for me, one for a friend) both had connectivity problems fairly regularly. It took a lot of flashing and tinkering to get mine semi-stable on a rom I liked, and his is still borked because the flashing process on his phone didn't go super smoothly.
What I miss:
Double tap to wake.

I'm hoping the rumors about the 6P on T-Mobile EIP are true

I did, after a few weeks with it I have to say that there is a bit of buyers remorse, but not enough for me to send it back. My primary issue with the opo was that it has a good camera not a great camera. I take a lot of photos and wanted a better camera. I did in fact get what I wanted.
The feel, its nice but its super slippery and I have to say that even though it's got a metal shell it doesn't feel very tough, I am treating it much more gingerly than I did my opo, its obvious that these phones have a bending issue. Did I mention its slippery?
The OS is nice, but I was already used to it thanks to sultan and his cm13.
I have a very good fingerprint reader, but I've been a big user of smartlock so it doesn't get used very much and Android pay is still out of reach since it won't work on a rooted phone.
Performance is good, but again I don't notice much difference day to day other than when the sucker gets really hot and slows down. It does cool down really fast.
I spend a lot of time in a car and have to use the USB a to C converter, so I don't get quick charge.
It can doze for days, but with regular use it dies fasted than my opo did.
The audio sucks without viper4android.
My happiest surprise is that it works flawlessly with my Acura hands free(I have had no phones that have) but the a2dp has anomalies.
The screen is beautiful, but not than much more beautiful than my adjusted opo screen.
There are no off screen gestures, it doesn't sound like a big deal but it is, you can enable double tap to wake but you have to do it every time you restart.
I have T-Mobile lte connection issues I didn't have with my opo. Not bad, but annoying.
The theming engine doesn't work for me.
When I say "that much more" what I mean is hundreds of dollars more. The phone would be easier to justify if it was at least $100 less.
Oneplus reset my expectations...

I'm tossing it up, I only got my One 12 months ago, and I have enough money right now to buy basically anything that I want outright, but I'm thinking I might just wait until the OnePlus 3. I worked out that I can either buy a OnePlus device every year (if they are similarly priced), or buy another flagship type every 2 years, and I'm thinking that the 12 month option is going to work better for me and I've never really had any problems with my One.

From what I've seen of the battery life with the 6P, I'm not sold on it. Plus I feel as though the SD810 is not the greatest chip in the world. I'm going to wait for the SD820 devices to come out. To me, the 6P just seems like an incremental upgrade over the OPO, and I can't justify it at the price point they are selling it at.

For me a bumb from the OPO to the 6P is to small that i would spend 500€ on it + I don't support Huawei anyway + Fingerprint can get bypassed easy by a 14 year old nerd ~

I switched and will never buy another one plus product again after my one year experience owning that pos.

Got my nexus 6p a few days ago.. Let me tell you, this is probably the best phone I've ever had. The screen, build quality, overall phone responsiveness is A1 , 10/10! I've had the iPhone 6 plus, Note 5 and this nexus 6p definitely beats both in almost every way.

Thinking about making the switch myself.

Basically, there are some stuffs that hold me to switch to a so expensive phone.
First of all, I relized that my opo will never die: the community is really active, we are talking of a two years old phone. I'm really happy to know that I can find almost everything I need for my phone. That not mean that I think that the 6P community is smaller (AK we miss you), but it's not the 'nexus' name on the back that will change my mind.
And about the performance, well, my opo still do what should do in almost every conditions.
And the battery life is awesome, really, I hate to arrive at home and run to plug my phone, as I hate to save battery while I'm out and avoid to use the phone cause I'm scared it die before I can plug it.
And the sandstone fell on the back, it's pure love for me.
The 6P is a really really great phone, great camera, great performance with MM, but it cost about twice what i paid my opo. Moreover, I don't feel the need of a SD810 at all, I would definetively wait for something with the new quad 820.
Maybe the new Nexus (I always loved Htc phones, so I really hope in something by them for the new Nexus) or meybe the future OP3.
I think that my opo will survive till and will give me a lot of fun till its moment arrive, maybe the next november

I bought a N6P from google play store but returned it (under Googles ridiculously generous return policy) and went back to my OPO. I don't think the build quality of the N6 was very good. It is big and slippery and yet not very robust, unlike the OPO. I strongly disagree with the poster above who prefers the N6P back. It is too slippery - the OPO "sandpaper" is MUCH better for these big phones. Also, the N6P price in Australia is outrageous given it is just another Chinese phone. The OPO running Android 6 - CM13 (Sultan) is still near a state-of-the-art phone.
