Make LED flash faster - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It's a little passive, isn't it. You have to stare at it for about 5 seconds to see if there's a tiny little pulse. It would be great it if flashed 2 or 3 times a second; that'd really get your attention and alert you to the event.

I don't have my Z3 yet, but perhaps you can try Light Manager? I've been using it for years on my S3 and it is solid (and can do what you're asking). Not sure if the dev has added support for this phone yet.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koo.lightmanager

try light flow?

Was going to create a thread but as this is a topic about the LED. I want to know does anyone know why it is that during the service tests the colours a red, blue and green yet when your charging the phone it looks more orange and also for notifications instead of a blue flash its white, I noticed this on the xperia Z1 but the Xperia Z is blue.

Can confirm that Light Manager is working flawless on the Z3C and so it should on the Z3.

LED Notification Colors

Hey guys,
Can someone with ROOT Access check what colors of LED Notification is available for the MyTouch 4G.
I was talking to the developer of the LED Know app on the market and he said someone with root access would have to enter the following command to see the available colors.
Code:
find /sys/devices/ -name 'brightness'
/sys/devices/platform/flashlight.0/leds/flashlight/brightness
/sys/devices/platform/leds-microp/leds/amber/brightness
/sys/devices/platform/leds-microp/leds/green/brightness
/sys/devices/platform/leds-microp/leds/button-backlight/brightness
/sys/devices/platform/nov_cabc.0/leds/lcd-backlight/brightness
uh 2 colors LOL
good enough?
cd /sys/devices/platform/leds-microp/leds/
ls
amber
green
button-backlight
ha ha...the developer's exact response was "my guess is that it will only have amber and green but I hope I am wrong"
Well, he wasn't wrong after all.
Thanks man.
not a prob anything to get the development moving on this device before it disappears... or i brick it LOL

wouldn't turning on both green and amber at the same time make a third color?
What im wondering is if we mix colors or take led files from another device and push. although the two diff colors green and amber mixed looks like when your charging the phone if you look close the green is on too... i think
anyone know how to add a color? or mix and match with the 2 colors we have?

To add a color you would have to actually add on another led. You can't just add another color with a code because led only have colors that was originally put on them. If nobody put a green led for the full charge notification. No green led would be available. I'm pretty sure I'm accurate on my statement but if I'm wrong feel free to correct

Or maybe a green-amber....green,amber....green,amber blink pattern.
Could have sworn I see when almost charged a mix of both. Like full amber with light green.
Or, just really really tired when I.plug in at night.

I find the LED almost useless on this phone, as it's so small and dim compared to other phones. My hand reaches from the phone to turn it on, and my eyes fall on the notification bar for any alerts. I never glance at the LED.
I wish the LED would blink through the charging/charge light. If its sitting on the charger it stays solid, even if you have an alert waiting for you.

I've just been conditioning my battery, and definitely get red when dying (no question, it is RED). So I'm seeing geen, amber, red.
If you look close there are only two leds, green and amber. Amber flashes with low battery, green with notification and full battery. And both when charging.next time you plug in your phone look closely and you will see both amber and green on making orange
All look same to me. I'm colorblind. And the standard red/green/amber used as a status on electronic equipment is just a light to me. Sucks when I'm in a datacenter trying to fix network equipment.

Notification Indicators, something I can add to ROM?

Since we all know the primary notification light indicator in the top-left corner of the Aria is less than adequate brightness-wise and visibility-wise I would like to propose a new alternative LED indicator: Use the capacitive menu buttons instead!
I was thinking if, at all possible, only one would need to be lit up - which I'd like to use the home button. I'm not sure if each one can be lit up seperately though.
What do you guys think?
Cool idea, but I have a feeling all of the button lights are linked. If you take the back housing off the phone and look at the glass from the edge, it looks like it's just one light...

Less than adequate in what way? With CM 6.1 mine flashes when I get an email, text, missed call or voice mail. Its RED while its charging and changes to GREEN when its full charged. Am I missing something?
I don't see how flashing the Home button would be any different than what we have now.

I should have been more specific, the brightness and visibility is what is less than adequate!
I have to actually hold the phone up to my face and directly look at it to see the light emitting any "light" - what's the point of that??? Mine as well is turned on and the fact that I don't even notice it is a shame really.
With other devices I've owned (blackberry comes to mind).. I could see the notification light clearly visible from afar.
If you're judging my idea because you think it's stupid, then please keep your comments out of here - it's development, not judging time.
Thank you.

Thanks for the clarification. Yes I would agree that compared to other phones I have had, the LED is not near as obvious, especially with a case on. Using the Home button may be more obvious, but you would lose the color aspect that the LED offers.

Notification led FAILS

Hello everyone,
I'm thinking to buy this very good devices but I read on some italian sites that there are some batch that have notification led bugged.
I'm explain better: they told that the led is shifted from the normal position and isn't so visible as other batch.
Anyone of you have this problem?

Can you do a photo so I can compare with the one that I will buy today?
Will seems strange but on internet there aren't any photo of the one s notification led.
For me hte LED, comparing to the Desire is less noticable
I don't know if this is a bug or a feature, but the led is definitely too back behind the ear-piece net.
Just got my grey one s yesterday so not sure what is normal what is not in terms of notification light.
My light is located at the second row of the speaker holes, the 5th hole from the left. it is yes quite small compared to my incredible s, and during daylight, you have to be close to the phone in order to see it.
Is it normal?
This is my same location of hte led as well

The problem is not where is the led, but the fact that notification is still buggy after update 1.78.401.2: the other morning for example I had 3 emails but there was no led blinking. Others too reported led not working or working just for the first 5 minutes...

Mine was useless. You can't even see the led from the sides, only when u look pretty much straight at phone. Led is behind the speaker grill.

good and cool idea as far as design goes, but most definitely not good for notifications
Mine is international unlocked, but with french CID. The led is too down and catches up just the first row of holes on the grill.
I must say it's completely unusable. I'm looking for a way to hardware fix it with some light conductive material.
Maybe a software patch to boost up the LED current will be also needed.
On HTC Mozart it's also under the speaker grill, but it's way to bright compared with the One S one.
mine works except I notice it only blink for like 5 minutes and turn itself off.
Mine is kinda useless, since it's almost impossible to see it unless you hold the phone in your hands...

Multi-Colored LED Notification?

Has anyone Confirmed that our LED is a multi-colored LED. I have not been able to change the LED notification color through Go SMS Pro, and other apps.
I'll keep looking into it, but have not seen any spec sheets that say differently.
Update: Wikipedia states that the LED Can only Flash Green or "Orange" (i see red)
It is multicolored. It was red when I plugged in, then when the battery was full it went to green.

Read on one of the reviews that the LED is not customizable (through light flow) and they couldn't even get the app to work even with HTC direct mode enabled.
I'm just happy there's an LED at all. Coming from an SGS2 it surely is a time saver.
here's to hoping it's just a ROM swap away from customization.
I think we are SOL on customized led notifications. The last 3 HTC devices I had (inspire, EVO 3d, and vivid) were unable to change colors.

Looks like a true multicolour LED
I know that HTC say that the notification LED can only do orange and green but I'm guessing that the hardware is multicolour capable (i.e. Red, green, orange, yellow, possibly even blue, white, etc).
I say this for the following reason; the hue of the green LED.
It is not the green colour that you normally get from a green only LED (which normally has a slightly yellowish hue). The HTC green LED colour has a blueish hue that indicates that the green comes from a multicolour LED. Also normally the orange that HTC state you should see when charging would normally come from a green and red led (or dual colour led) lit together. My HTC One X lights red NOT orange when charging.
Perhaps my observations are incorrect am I'm just seeing what I want but if anyone has a link to HTC it would be good to get an answer on this.

When commanded through Light Flow, you have three options, Green, Deep Orange (Looks red) and Orange (which is more yellowish then the deep red)
My fear is that the LED Is not an RGP LED which means we can not make every color.
any update on this for the AT&T One X?
Multicolor led can work only if some kernel dev activates it but we need the source and i have not seen any kernel devs yet working for the hox

Yeah i too miss my N1 and the trackball/LED. It was great for taking pictures (dedicated shutter) Trackball wake was the **** and the multitude of colors was a great feature. I had a different color for almost every notification. I knew if i missed a call, got an email, a text message, calendar alert, etc from the other side of the room. When my girl took it over the colored notifications was enough to catch her cheating ass in a lie (or two) lol.
eX picks up phone, reads it, says i missed a call from my mom. I'm thinking but the light was blue for text. Red is missed call. I checked it later and sure enough was a text from her ex. No missed call from mom :victory:

[Q] Notification LED burned out?

I'm fairly certain that my "green" LED is either burned out or the circuitry is no longer working properly. I know it's highly unlikely that LEDs burn out, but it seems to be. I noticed today that i wasn't getting any blinking lights when i got texts (green) but i am getting facebook notification blinks (blue). After much googling, i read all about the "restore" issues people had. I did several FDRs without restoring and even reflashed my firmware with no luck. Finally fed up, i tried testing settings with Light Flow. After trying red, green, blue, yellow, orange, and white. The only settings that made my LED work were blue and white, but the weird part was that both white and blue settings caused the LED to blink blue, but at least it blinks now.
Anyone else have anything like this happen? I've had the phone since it came out so i can't exchange it, i guess i'll just live with it until my upgrade. Just wondering if i'm the only one.....

Download LightFlow from the play store. The free version will support quite a few applications (the paid one supports more apps and has a few more features.) In any event, Lightflow allows you to set the color of the light for different apps, and it has a test feature which will cycle all the colors. On my phone, I can get green, red, blue, light blue, purple, red, yellow-ish, and a white/indigo-ish color. Not all the colors work, some default to a similar color.

Hmm sorry about that -- missed that you were using Lightflow. So, the LED is not burned out because other colors work, as far as I know it's only one light up there, not one per color (I could be wrong about that though.) Have you tried a factory reset?

Correct, several factory resets. The way LEDs work is that there has to be a different LED die for each color. So it's not technically just one LED. Even if it's one housing. Knowing what I know about LEDs, my guess is that it is an issue with the circuitry and not just a bad die in the LED. If this phone wasn't glued together for a watertight seal, I would open it up and investigate. But seeing as how the only problem I'm having is the color of the LED, I'll leave it alone so I don't break something else.

Haha, you lost more points yet again.... yes in my original post I stated that I reflashed the firmware.
Also, I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all... but LEDs can only produce 1 color of light. Those RGB LEDs you speak of actually have a different die for each color. Even though it is in the same housing, it is controlled by 3 different inputs (circuits). That's what leads me to believe it's the circuit more so than having a die or two burned out.

Good grief! Anyway - yeah - I read more about those because I was curious, and you are correct, they appear to just house three separate circuits inside them.

Would I have to go through moto though, or can I go through vzw? I'm rooted but I can flash back to stock if I want to. The only concern I have is that if I get a replacement, it will most likely have the latest unrootable firmware. I don't want that either.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD
Not sure - I've never done a warranty replacement before. Getting a refurbished one is a concern -- but I wouldn't worry too much about the firmware. If you search thorough here and droidrzr.com you'll find some posts from people who've been in this predicament. Supposedly people have successfully flashed back to the old rootable/unlockable firmware and then protected root and re-updated the phone via an OTA.
One year is standard i think

You have one year. I'd call up verizon. Hopefully they give you a decent replacement that isn't updated so you can unlock the bootloader (just in case you ever decide you want to have full access some day).
Crazy idea here but maybe you could try this. Go to play store, then my apps. Look at a Motorola app like smart actions. Click more by motorola. Install the notification light app. It's just a toggle. Add the widget to a home screen. Toggle the light off. Keep it off all day. Then try turning it back on and see what happens.

Well after looking up the teardown procedure and seeing that it actually is very easy on this phone, only about 2 minutes to disassemble this phone, I opened this bad boy up and discovered it is definitely hardware related. Pic below. Good news is that I can get the replacement part I need for $9 online. Then I don't have to deal with firmware issues or having moto or Verizon say it was my fault and charging me. Here's the pic.

Not sure of I can post links, but if you search eBay for RAZR HD ear speaker, you can find it for $19.99 and free shipping from California. It'll be refurbished. The one I screen captured above from etrade supply was only $9 but it was $20 for shipping from China. So I went with the eBay one.
I used a single torx wrench (shown below) it's an XTD-6. It's all I had. But according to the teardown procedure, the specified tool you need is a T5 torx. I guess either will work.
