I just ordered one I'm so excited!

Will the player be available on other places other than google play store? I have some gift certificates on Amazon and would be very nice to get it for free

Ordered two. Let the waiting commence!

Ordered mine. Controller was out of stock when I got to the website.

Not that I see.
Nontheless I intend on waiting and snagging one from best buy

Snagged the Player, but the controller was out of stock... came back in about an hour and the controller was available and I snagged it as well !

damn...sold out already..

It looks like the nexus player has been pulled out of the play store due to FCC approval/disapproval.
This device has not been approved by the Federal Communications Commission.
It is not for sale until approval of the FCC has been obtained.
Says the google product's page

Weird. Why did they put it for sale the first time? Did they expect to get an approval but then FCC failed it on some point (probably EMC, always a tricky part)
Skickat från min GT-I9505 via Tapatalk

FCC approval just came through. If you didn't manage to order already then keep an eye on that order page. They may open it up again soon assuming they are not truly sold out already.

Its back up.

But the controllers are still sold out

Gone again...lol

any idea about the availability in EUROPE?

I am also very curious about that.

Managed to order a nexus player and controller today, shipping on 21 Nov.

I have just ordered Nexus Player with remote and controller from eBay - since Google Play doesn't ship to my country - I hope I won't get cheated.
I bought it mostly to develop games for it, so I hope it will arrive before Christmas so I can release at least one of my games on Nexus Player by then.

Ordered mine too. 11/21
No controller tho. Going to use it as an XBMC center

I wonder if it will be better than Fire TV in that regard - while Fire TV is excellent with XBMC it doesn't support HEVC (h265).

[Q] Phonejoy Gamepad - What do you think?

I'm thinking of buying the Phonejoy analog version.
It's seems really nice but the seller does not have any items in stock.
go to phonejoy.net
Does anyone has one of these things?
A link would be nice, so we don't have to find it ourselves.
I have one, its the prototype - was sent for me to review. Great controller, I love it!
(he did give the link BTW, Phonejoy.net - also keep an eye out at Mobilefun and Clove in the UK, they have small shipments going out to them).
Here is more info:
http://blog.clove.co.uk/2011/07/21/...phonejoy-refresh-dual-analog-sticks-are-a-go/
So, can we use the ps3 with the bluez ime? Or just those controllers mentioned in the site?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA Premium App
Nope, still no way to connect PS3 controllers to Android handsets. The Phonejoy is the only option for a PS-like controller (unless you have a stock Android/cyanogenmod ROM handset, in which case you can use Wiimotes).
Datel wii wireless classic controllers with have more buttons... and personally I like the original wii cc even better. Who knows what nintendo will release with the next system
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I can't find the Datel controller.
But I want a controller with shoulders buttons and bluetooth.
That's why I want the Phonejoy or the Datel.

Is there any price yet? Crap they r not even in production yet. If they r making 100-200 of them they r gonna be freaking expensive if they don't mass produce over 1000 of these...
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
They won't be expensive, the original one was cheap despite the low production.
The Datel one you can get from Codejunkies (via Shipito if you live outside the US/UK). They pop up on Ebay and Amazon from time to time also.

Based of the first being much cheaper than the likes of the iControlPad, despite having much smaller production numbers than the upcoming one, and the fact that I know the Phonejoy manufacturer (thats how I came to have the prototype for review) and I know that they are having their cases ordered in larger numbers (=cheaper per unit), and I know that they are aware of being very price sensitive.
I've been looking for these controllers, what is the Datel one people are mentioning here? Can anyone provide a link, i'm possibly searching the wrong thing in google.
It's the datel wii wireless retro controller.
But I can't seem to find one from the internet.
So i'm waiting for the Phonejoy to release it's analog version.
I'm gonna own one... No doubt... Simple as that...

Since u r such a close friend of the manufacturer, when's a release date?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Most recent information is that around 200 will be produced in August, but they're in talks with a manufacturer presently, and hoping to be able to produce 500-1000 a month from September onward.
I think i'm more attracted by the iControlpad or this other controlpad someone posted where it fits over your keyboard and utilizes the keyboard buttons (anyone what that was called or was that just a one off user invention?).
Mainly because I need something a bit more portable for on the go gaming.
I think you're thinking about the Game Gripper...
Phonejoy are looking into making one like the iControlPad, because they realise that the portability side needs addressing too. No ETA, they are in the early design stages at this point in time, and their priority is increasing production of the dual-stick Phonejoy at the present time.

Likely places to buy

This will be my first Nexus so I'm not sure how you guys generally go about it. In addition to being on the Play store, are these usually sold by the big online retailers like Amazon? If so, would they be likely to have it immediately when it's released, or would Google hold onto some sort of "exclusive" sales period?
I do know that I'm not interested in buying it from AT&T just on general principles, but might consider some other non-Google source if I'm guaranteed availability & quick shipping.
I'm pretry sure best buy will have it along with tmobile. Best place to buy will probably be the play store. Also wrong section

I'm pretty sure that they will be offering the Nexus 5 on Amazon. I'm not completely sure because its Google ( unpredictable ), but the Nexus 7 (2013) was on Amazon, so I assume that the Nexus 5 will be too.
Probably just the playstore and possibly the carriers. Retailers would want a piece of the pie and these are already subsidized by Google at $350 ~
Usually sold only on playstore to start with, but Google may partner with amazon and best buy as well. But whatever it is place an order from play store as soon as the device goes for sale. Then look if you can get locally from best buy since you can always cancel or return the play store order.
My preference if it's available amazon, I will go for it with prime shipping. Always easy to deal with amazon customer service than Google or usually no clue best buy customer service.

This will be my first nexus too. If bought from a carrier, will they be adding their own bloat like they do on other phones or will it stay true to the stock android experience? Would you still get your updates from Google or are you stuck waiting for the carrier to push them out?

I hope to get it from T-Mobile (as long as they don't screw everyone over like they did with the Nexus 4 and offer it at a higher price) since I would be able to pay for it over 2 years and not have to pay full price right away.
Also, just read this on the official blog:
Nexus 5 will be available soon at the following retailers: Sprint, T-Mobile, Amazon, Best Buy and RadioShack.

They should be listing the phone within a few days.
Is that based on a source? Or just based on their track record with the Nexus 7 (2013) ?
Even if they don't list it until Nov 6th, i'd get it before i would have if ordered from the play store. I just hope its not a debacle like the chromecast. Then again, that was because of the netflix promo.

I'd like to know as well if this is from a source or just an educated guess. I have Amazon GCs I can use if it's not that long of a wait for Amazon to get it. T-Mobile's "in the coming weeks" makes it sound like it could take a month for them to get it and I don't know if they will increase the price like they did the Nexus 4.

The way I read that is it could be any time before Thanksgiving time so it could be a whole month before we see it at those retailers.

I just ordered mine last night from best buy, will arrive on friday for me. Im really excited to try vr for the first time since virtual boy in the 90's lol. I am hoping some brilliant developers can modify the playstation remote play app or something like it so we can stream our console games to the gear vr!!!
I am very interested in this hardware but it's still nowhere to be seen in the EU. I have some questions about it though as I primarily want it to view movies and series with in bed at night. Is it compatible with other applications like Kodi and mxplayer or it's a closed ecosystem?

I just got one and I'm not 100% sure that it's good for watching videos. I watched a TV show on it and the quality/resolution wasn't very good. I need to experiment some more. Definitely want to try one out in person before buying I think.

NEXUS Player On sale for $25 at walmart

Pretty good price for an android tv device with a x64 atom quad core... just picked one up and have it rooted and running pure nexus
Link perhaps? I couldn't find it in stock at the website.
confirmed, local store had 2 in stock. Thanks for sharing
A Wal-Mart close to me had a lot of Nexus Controllers at Clearance for 30, i went back not too long ago and all were gone. I wonder if they just discarded them... I need to go dumpster diving lol. Luckily i had snagged 2 of these guys went the target Clearance happened. Got one for 26, one for 14.
I just bought the nexus controller for $20 in Walmart
Sent from my Z958 using Tapatalk
I can confirm this from brick seek in a few locations. many locations either threw them out or shipped them somewhere else before this price drop though. I really think all the Walmart's around threw out the Asus Controllers, for the player. In Pueblo theres a few left.

Website may not show local store inventory, but I found their Android App seems too.
Sold out online, and sold out in all the stores I check in the Atl suburbs (north and west)
One Walmart here lowered the controller to $20. Should I grab it given I'm using an PS4 controller on my Sony Android TV?

Nexus Player Discontinued

Yeah I saw that earlier as well over at the verge. I wonder if Google is planning on releasing a new model of the Nexus Player now, with Android N out of the box?
Does anyone know where you can still buy one of these? Besides eBay of course. I called and went to several targets and walmarts in my area, but I had no luck in finding at least one =\
I want to buy two preferably

What is with Google anyways? They release good products and apps and then discontinue them on a pretty consistent basis. Looking forward the Mibox and google's future discontinued 5 new texting apps....
It didn't sell well at all. Google came very, very late to the market with this. Shame because it works extremely well.

True, but I believe that's only because Google didn't advertise the NP very well, or at all for that matter. If Google advertised the NP the same way Amazon does for their fire stick and fire TV box, the NP would've outsold Amazon's device easily by a landslide. It's a better device all around

Also true, but I don't think Google promotes any of their Nexus devices, phones, tablets, whatever. I ask a non-technical person in my family on phone brands, they might know iPhone, Galaxy, and the model they use themselves. Nexus? Nope.
When the NP launched in Australia last year I went to JB HiFi and asked for one. Even the computer crew didn't know what it was. They went out back to dig through the stock and came back out with it. The girls at the counter looked at it and said "I have no idea what this is, is it like Apple TV?".
Yes, b*atch, yes it is.
---------- Post added at 07:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:32 PM ----------
I reckon the NP would do okay if google simply continued at a better RRP. Something like $69, double the Chromecast, but much less than an Apple TV or Roku.
I would be surprised to see another Nexus Player. I honestly think the Mi Box will be its replacement within the same price range. At least Xiaomi has been great at keeping its current Mi Box's up to date with this being like it's third or forth hardware configuration.
Well that really sucks and I hope they just pulled it because they are planning a refresh. I've used Roku and Fire TV and my Nexus Player has been by far my favorite streaming device and it works extremely well. Also, I find it kind of funny how they pulled the Nexus Player from their store and now it shows the Nvidia Shield instead.
