Hi All, I am a Galaxy S5 user and I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the UConnect infotainment package. Both work really well together. However, I am running into scenarios where I only want "some" of my phone media apps to run through the bluetooth. Here is an example:
While driving and listening the the radio AM/FM/XM (whatever), I may also have my phone running waze to alert me of traffic or red light cameras etc . But when Waze tries to send an audio alert, I do not hear it because my infotainment source is "radio" instead of Bluetooth at that moment.
The obvious answer is to only pair the phone for phone function and skip the media pairing, but there are also plenty of times when I do want to listen to phone media through the infotainment (spotify etc). The phone-only pairing would limit that ability.
So I am seeking a phone app that can apply policy to the phone's "media" apps to determine which ones play over bluetooth and which play through the phone's speakers. Does anyone have a suggestions?

I am looking for a car stereo with the following features for use with my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 phone. Most of these via bluetooth of course.
- navigate through and select tunes, podcasts, and audiobooks
- stream audio
- Display caller id and allow me to answer the call or ignore it
- bluetooth hands free calling
- associate with my phone when I start the car so I don't have to pull it out of my pocket
- pause the audio when there is an incoming call or I place a call via the stereo
- be able to place calls using the address book in the phone
Can all of this be found in one unit? Am I hoping for too much?

using my deck, you can control the phone audio/video stream, and vice versa, as in you can also use your touch screen to control the audio/video as you would normally do, and the car plays the sound.
the remote control works as well, i barely use my remote control as i seat a arms/finger length distance of the deck controls
it uses the standard A2DP Bluetooth controls, it's very natural.
another ability of the deck i'm using in my car, it lets you choose USB, so you can actually hookup the usb/charger wire from the SGS i9000 to the car USB, and it will both play and charge your phone!
this will save your phone battery (bluetooth sucks up a lot of power) so you will only use the bluetooth to talk for incoming/outgoing calls
you just touch a button on the deck to start talking, you can also dial from the deck, but is faster to use the phone to dial.
when you have the phone connected via USB to the deck, you wont be able to use the bluetooh A2DP to control the playback, but you still have the deck controls and the remote control that comes with the deck.
go to the website and read the PDF manual for more details, all i can say is i'm extremely happy and sastified with this setup
you can also just use a regular USB stick to play audios from the deck.
I don't even carry CDs in my car anymore, I loaded my entire music library in a 32GB USB stick, or use my phone to play audio, my phone usually will have the latest song i download from the net, as i always forget to update my USB stick with the latest songs

Music controls on handset or deck both work (and remote).
Caller ID/Missed Call/Call log scrollable menu on deck screen.
BT phone audio through speakers with included in car mic.
Full audio volume control.

Shoot. I was || this close to getting the Clarion CZ509 but I only found it at 2001 Audio/Video and I don't like those guys much. Instead, I just had the Sony MEX-BT3800U unit installed. I've only started playing with it but I understand it has the same capabilities of the Clarion and a great interface on the deck face.

Has someone tried the Pioneer FH-P8000BT? I uderstand it's a nice option but don't know if it works ok with Galaxy S's.
Also, is any of the head units mentioned above able to dial by voice? Is it functional?

Anyway, I'm hoping you can help me out. Here's essentially what I said in the PM:
I noticed that you have gotten most everything to work with your clarion cz509 HU. I too have the same HU in my car but I can not get the functionalities to work properly. I used to have an LG voyager and while it did not do ANYTHING except bluetooth, it did do that well. It did not do phonebook or streaming audio but the BT would pair automatically every time I got into the car.
I now own a Samsung Fascinate (Verizon) and I can't even get the BT functionality to work properly. I can get it to pair (and once paired it works fine) but it does not seem to auto pair when I return to the car. I also can not seem to get any of the other functions to work. I realize it's a bit different than your handset but my questions to you are:
1. Is there something setting-wise that I need to change on the actual HU itself?
2. Is there anything to do with settings on the phone that I need to look into?
3. I can't even get it to do audio through USB. Is there something I need to do (on the phone end) to get this to work properly?
I would be satisified with JUST the bluetooth working and auto pairing when I get into the car. I don't need the phonebook or the streaming audio or even the music via USB (I can just use my iPod) but I would like the BT to work at least. The engrish manual that came with the CZ509 is less than helpful.
I'm hoping you may be able to provide some insight.

Has anyone heard anything about a Google Music receiver for a car? I'd certainly be in for one. I'm imagining a device with the entire library and album/artist views. It should have a local cache for recently used music that WiFi syncs at night. When on the road requesting a song that isn't locally stored a Bluetooth connection to the mobile phone could be the solution to make for a killer media hub.
I suppose the main trouble with this is carriers would consider sending songs from Google Music to the head unit via Bluetooth tethering, but sending the same song to the head unit over an 1/8th in audio jack would be acceptable.
Anyone know of any development going on that could make this possible?
This is an awesome idea. In fact its the first possibility I thought of when hearing about Google music. My car now has a USB interface and is compatible with all mass storage devices. I imagine an application would create a dummy index for the receiver to access. After clicking on a track the application would then stream the track. I am not a developer here but I hope someone picks this up. The android app they came out with is nice but its interface is disappointing. There should be an easy way to get the raw data to stream without having to be amplified through your cell phone.

On my S3 I have successfully created a BT pairing with a BT Audio Device use which has a steroe out fed into my car's head unit's Aux In.
So, it is Auto-Paired. That is, when I step into my car and turn on the ignition thus powering up the BT Audio Device the paring is available to be used for Media Audio.
However, in order for my phone to route audio to the BT Audio Device I must enter the phone's BT menu and tell the phone to connect to the Device for Media Audio.
I can either do this through the notification pane to see pairings then tap the pairing to use for Media Audio or I can go through settings->BT and do the same thing.
Either way, it's a huge PITA to do this every single time I get into my car.
There has got to be a way to have the phone automatically route Media Audio through this BT Audio Device upon detection. My previous two phones had nowhere near the ability of my S3 but they had no issues whatsoever with automatically pairing and routing audio to this BT Audio Device.
Is the S3 really this stunted in the BT department? If so, is there an app that fixes this stupidity with grace and non-intrusiveness?

I feel ya, in the past, all I had to do was toggle BT on and go, now there's two or three extra steps which almost defeats the use of a toggle.
I just started searching for some answers and am honestly surprised no one else has made a big deal about this. If I find something, I'll post it up... For now, going to take a look at some system files and build.prop stuff, but it's not really my department.
Got some NFC tags and NFC Task Launcher hoping I could circumvent the BS with a hardware hack. But no, the best this does is auto toggle the BT radio and open the device selection screen where 2 more taps are required to actually use the device for media audio. Any new insight out there? Considering Tasker app but it is rather expensive and no free version to see if it does the trick.
My Bluetooth Auto Corrects Just fine to my cars Bluetooth... Toggle on and go. Running AOKP currently but it worked properly on stock, stock rooted, and Synergy as well.
I haven't gotten a chance to try this yet but I probably will tomorrow.

I haven't had any trouble with bluetooth devices reconnecting to my phone as soon as I power them on. I'm running cyanogenmod 10 rom.

It seems the issue may be primarily with BT Audio Gateways. I don't have this issue with my laptop at all and I'm imagining car head units rarely see this problem.
That said A2DP Volume App fixed this issue for me. Once configured I did have to manually set the device to use media audio one last time before A2DP Volume started doing it for me. I configured NFC Task Launcher to kill wifi, enable BT and launch A2DP volume when it contacts the tag in my car and it works perfectly. Since NFC Task Launcher front ends into Tasker and Tasker has the A2DP force connect plugin available I'm seriously considering getting Tasker for all the other cool features it can do besides scratching this particular itch.

You can fix this relatively easy by getting the app Tasker. I use it to do things like automatically start the music player I want when headphones are plugged in, to turning up the brightness automatically when I am getting an incoming call, etc. I am fairly certain you could set up the program to do whatever you want via bluetooth if you fiddle with it.

LOL, if you had only read the rest of the thread...
Yeah, Tasker cannot do this OTB but with the A2DP Connect Plugin it can. Or you can just run the A2DP Volume app and do the same for free.
That the A2DP Connect code is GPL it would be super sweet if our developers incorporated the magic into the ROMs so that a base install didn't need apps to do something so simple as automatically route media audio to BT gateways.
This happens to me when I use the wrong settings in my cars head unit. My Toyota gives me the option to pair as a multimedia device, a phone or both. If you set it up as just a multimedia device then you won't have some functionality. Check your head unit manual and try to re-pair. You might have to delete the existing pairing for it to work right.

Yeah, it's not a head unit, it's an audio gateway that basically is just a BT receiver with a stereo out and no interface so it is what it is with no configuration options. This issue with the S3 appears to be primarily related to these types of devices.

Oh okay. When I look under the bluetooth menu in CM10 I have a paired connection that I named Car Multi-Media and if I look at its settings I see profiles called Phone audio and Media audio. I'm guessing you just have a Media audio profile. Not sure how to help you there. Sorry.

I recently got a new BMW 116i. My Nexus 5 connects sweetly with the Bluetooth Interface, i can make Phone Calls and Listen to my songs.
What doesn't work is: I cannot change songs with my steering wheel. It should provide me a list of songs i can scroll through and select. Changing songs with the forward / back keys in the middle of the car works, but the "list" doesnt. (I checked the functionality with an iPhone of my friend.)
Can anyone help me?

People have always said car bluetooth often has many incompatibilities with difference devices due to proprietary software (which Android Auto supposively solves), it might just be that.
I have a 2009 Renault Laguna Sports Tourer
This is equipped with Bluetooth and I can play music from my S6 through the car.
The only problem is the track information is being 'sent' to the car.
It actually displays 'No track information'
Any ideas if this is an android thing or something to do with the car

I've noticed with various android devices that it depends on the Android app being used. It seems that native Google apps send Bluetooth Metadata track information better than some third party android apps. Example, Google Play Music works fine, while Samsung Milk Music might not. Luckily, I mostly use my Podcast app which at first had problems sending Bluetooth Metadata, but after an update, it started sending the Metadata fine. It's been hit and miss depending on the Android app for me.
