[Q] Some questions about my Lenovo A850 - Lenovo A850

I have quite a lot of questions regarding my rooted Lenovo A850 since I googled it and found no answer so I need answers from all of you professional devs.
Briefly, I bought the phone (stock non-root) at my country at a very cheap price (RM320 if not mistaken, equivalent to $97 since it's an offer) and when I first boot up my phone, I mostly saw chinese apps (including the dialpad app). So I didn't really care about that at first.
Then I faced storage problem, at that time I don't know the cause so I just moved on, till the day that I cannot install any games in it.
At that time, I don't know what fills system storage, maybe WhatsApps media, maybe pre-loaded apps.
So at this time these questions poped up my head (you can answer this Q's):
1. Why are some of this system apps are unpractical (really, it's no use having them)?
2. Why Shen Ma Game ( Google it if you don't know) appeared as an undeletable GAME (it's a GAME, yet rated system app, neither uninstall nor disable work), I mean why that useless game rated as system app?
3. Players Tutorial is not working, ANR popped up when try to launch. Is there a way to fix that?
After probs and probs I resorted to root................ aaaaaaaand softbricked (lol my fault) and recovered.
After phone is repaired, I noticed something odd. The serviceman said to me that I actually rooted my phone successfully, with his face seems shocked (like I'm the only one can do that). It is because my phone is an AP set (made by manufacturer other than Lenovo itself) and theoretically impossible to mod that type of phone.
BUT I DID IT.
Oh back to odd thing, anybody know this type of Superuser?

It's also chinese in stock, but thankfully I can change the language with help from somebody.
With that said I have a happy time MODDING my phone.
List of Xposed mods:
Fonter
GravityBox
Greenify
HKThemeManager (i have a Q about this)
Holo Themer (this also)
Phab7
Smooth System ProgressBars
XBlast
XuiMod
Youtube AdAway
My questions about these are:
1. HKThemeManager doesn't seem to detect themes I downloaded (CM10 theme)
2. After applying Holo Themer, that circle loading anim doesn't show up, even the stock anim is not showing up
3. Is it safe to change my bootup screen? [if not i'll change it back to stock right away]
4. How to theme my stock rom, safely, entirely including Settings, dialpad app, drag-down menu and more?
Then another odd thing I notice, my stock rom is not ROW. (see pic)
You know what, I have a strong feel that this is CN rom , not ROW(it's because I previously tried to install TWRP ROW in it and the recovery is not booting up), and my rom is S203 (what is that?).
The build number is also strange, it shows [probably] the source of the rom came. So I kinda locked to stock rite now and still looking for ways to further mod my device
Kindly please answer my Q's and some recommendations about modding
Thanks!

The app was installed as a system app. It doesn't matter if it is a game. You can uninstall it with a Root Uninstaller from the store.

Have you seen a lot of people from your social cycle having a rooted device? None of my friends have a rooted phone. I will also be surprised knowing that one of my friends rooted its phone.

Chinese devs have developed a lot of "unknown" for the rest world Superuser apps,. If you have no problems with it leave it as it is, else search how to replace a Superuser app. I believe that the best superuser app right now is SuperSU.

Since your ROM is full Chinese, it must be CN. It is not odd not to write it on the firmware.

Official lenovo apps has a version number (ex. s121, s123, s203) and this numbers shows on which official firmware your custom ROM is based on.

Multi quote eh? I did the same, now eyes down to what I write (lol)

Some of my schoolmates are techies (the one having jailbreaked iPhone 5c, another having an unknown brand of phone (srsly, i never seen it anywhere around) that can boot multiple ROMs in one phone and some more) so seeing modded phone is a routine for me, but if we're talking about an AP set phone, it's rare actually cuz very few had any trust on AP set phones (state-of-the-art the experience sucked) and modding it? You're likely falling into a trap.

I am completely fine with that type of Superuser cause' it's MUCH MUCH simpler to use though. The UI is super straightforward and doesn't nag too much.

mm...ok
But honestly, I do not want to be the first person to flash recovery on CN rom, I want to hear thoughts from somebody had done it so if you or anybody, can get the AP set of Lenovo A850 with such baseband ver. or that exact ROM, try flashing custom recovery on it and tell me how it performs? Is it safe to do? via USB or Mobileuncle?
ONE THING, I DO NOT WANT MY PHONE TO EXPERIENCE BOOTLOOP, BRICK OR SUCH CRAP, CUZ I DO NOT WANT TO INVEST ON REFLASHING IT AGAIN, BOU AT THE SAME TIME, I WANT TO DO MORE ON MY PHONE, SAFELY...

[ROM][Updated 25/01/11] Higgsy Modded v1.08 RC2 - Easy Installer!

Well I'm kind of in the mood after getting some good feeback from my Defy ROM, so seen as though v1.08 has been released by Advent - I thought I would try and get a release based on this out - try and liven up the vega section on XDA!
As I've said before - I aint no Dev and don't profess to be. I know a fair bit about Android, but I don't compile, what I can do, is put things together that make it easy for others.
As you can see I've marked this as a release candidate, so I'm open to suggestions of what else could be included/improved on, although this is meant to be an unbloated blank canvas for people to build on.
ROM Includes:
Advent v1.08 base
Flash (You may need to reinstall by browsing to /system/etc/shuttle_priv and reinstalling the app in there)
Launcherpro
Gapps (No Gmail - I don't use the app - download from the market if you want it)
High Res Gallery
Moduleap screen calibration app
ES File manager
New for RC2:
Included small notification bar
Custom Boot screen
Modaco USB Switcher (Host/Slave)
Optional Clockworkmod Recovery
Added stock taskmanager back in (even though I think its fairly poor)
My favourite part of this is the installer - I don't think you can get much simpler than this. I'm sorry to Mac and Linux users, but this is a windows installer package, I've never owned a mac (and probably never will) and have limited linux experience.
Install process:
This assumes you have already have the Vega nvflash/adb drivers installed.
1) Download Higgsy_Modded_v1.08_Vega_RC2.exe here
2) Make a backup of your current ROM using clockworkmod recovery (If you use it).
3) I Also advise a backup of your apps/app data via Titanium Backup.
4) Boot into nvflash recovery using the following method:
Disconnect power cable if connected
Power the Vega off
Reconnect the power cable
Hold the back button for 2 seconds
Keeping the back button held down, press and hold the power button for 2 secs
You should hear a "bing bong" from the PC - if so release the buttons
If you don't get a bing bong, disconnect power for 10 secs then reconnect and try the process again.
5)Once you are in nvflash mode execute the Higgsy_Modded_Vega_v1.08_RC1.exe you downloaded, once complete hit enter when the DOS window prompts you.
6)Wait 10 secs and then power on the device as normal.
Installation for Clockworkmod Package:
1)Download the Clockworkmod_Install.exe from here
2)Make sure your Vega is connected to your PC and you have USB debugging enabled on the device
3)Double click the Clockworkmod_Install.exe program and let it do its bit
4)Once the DOS window disappears then it all done.
5)I recommend a standard shutdown/cold boot after install (prob don't need this, but I like to do it anyways.
I had previously posted earlier that clockworkmod was giving black screen, I can now confirm that installing via the above method, has stopped this for me- I have done 3 reflashes/install clockwork/boot into clockwork/flash a zip/reboot/cold boot and it hasn't black screened me, I was probably trying to be a bit clever trying to integrate things I didn't need to, and to be fair its better as an optional extra anyway.
Further note from me on clockwork mod after someone reported BSOD:
Clockworkmod is hit and miss, I spent best part of a day testing/reflashing and in the end I got it to work without any issues, i.e. the usual BSOD after first cold boot after using clockworkmod. What I found prevented it earlier was after using clockwork mod to backup/restore/flash zip etc, was to reboot back into clockworkmod straight away and then just hit reboot in clockworkmod as soon as it loaded up, then if you cold boot after this it loaded up ok. I think the key thing if you are going to use clockwork, is take a recovery straight after setting everything up, then its not so much of a biggy if it does black screen.
Enjoy the ROM
Thanks go to the following:
[email protected] for all my hosting
[email protected] for the Recovery.img/app for the vega. and USB switcher (And indeed kicking of the whole vega scene) At the end of the day Modaco got me into android and for that I'm grateful.
[email protected] for High Res Gallery3D
Fede Carnales for Launcherpro, that is included in the rom.
Estrongs team for a great file explorer.
Advent for making the technology available at an affordable price/original firmware.
Anyone else who thinks they should be thanked.
Please don't post this on other forums without asking me first

in my opinion very nice, I will be completely honest - I have compared this and it is mostly advent adding the newer tegra drivers in, there are other differences and additions too though.
would like some feedback from others on the installer and if its working sweet for them (it is for me)

I couldn't decide which way to go with that, I always used the small notification before, some like it some don't. I'll make an update.zip add on. easily done.
Edit: I want to compile it myself too (framework-res) and not use the other one thats available, gives me more experience if I do it myself.

Thanks Higgsy, will give this a go tomorrow. If you are going to modify this yourself, would it be possible to have a semi-transparent small notification bar as an optional update.zip? Or if you know of a good n00b guide to do so, it would be appreciated.

Hi Higgsy,
Thanks for making this easy for us that are not so well informed and those that can't be bothered
Mine crashed tonight, Nothing to do with your update, but would it be ok to use your update to bring it back to life

Nope don't use it never have, don't like it. If I had the choice I would include the motorola blur email app - coz I like that the best.
Great work Higgsy.
I would like to see button savior installed as default, its a must for the vega. Also would like the small taskbar. Also does this contain flash?
Thanks mate
Small notification bar patch added to the OP, changes something else too, spot the difference.

Again button saviour is a must, I agree, my aim here was to provide a blank canvas with only the basics. To be honest there aint a great deal of space in /system. If people agree then I'll include it in the next release.
Flash included and works, you may need to reinstall it by going into /system/etc/shuttle_priv/selecting the app to install. I'll update the OP coz I forgot about that.
I notice in the screenshot that the kernel version is v1.06 is that a mistake. i have flashed the official firmware and it says v1.08.

considering trying this rom out, but if I did and didn't like it, what would be the easiest way to get back the factory AT&T rom?
@bbombf
if you don't like my rom you can download AT&T's original rom, just google "Jack Windows Mobile 6.5 Upgrade.exe".
or go -->Here<--
GOOD work~
just a little peak of the icons, would like to change the waiting cursor but haven't found any easy accuses to any i like.
I installed this ROM but I checked "Select/Deselect All" in Download Area, included EFS Clear.
After a flash, my IMEI Changed by "0000000000000"...
How restore my original IMEI?????
8. in the Download Mode area, check "Select/Deselect All" it should check all the files for you.
it was not my intention to change anyone's IMEI number. i am terrible sorry for that.
i've uploaded the Stock AT&T rom as a PDA (i637_AT&T_Stock.PDA) so that the people that have been affected by the imei change, can change back to the original. if they want too.
But, this is not limited to just those. everyone can flash it, just follow the flashing instructions.

New Rom Info
Thanks Spiaatie.
i did a lot of searching for the correct flashing instructions. i have personally tried these new instructions (on a friends i637 phone) and can say they work! follow the new ones and you'll be just fine.
if you were affected by the imei change "*#06#", with my initial release. the best thing i can do for you is tell you to see if your carrier can help you out. sorry.
will be uploading a new rom soon.

And where was the mistake in flashing instructions? I've been flashing chinese and mexican Roms 6.5 over 6.5 and it haven't changed my imei. I've been flashing over all 3 files pda eb0 and bin.

Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 MT6575
Hello Everybody!
I own a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 CLONE, the MT6575.
It is possible to put Android on this phone, and there are different versions which you can put on your phone, however, not all of them work fully. I am not responsible if you brick your phone, or any damage done to it, but hopefully, there shouldn't be much damage done.
Not sure this is your phone?
If you have any doubts that this is not your phone, please do not download or use the roms linked here, This can destroy your phone!
As I only have the MT6575, I do not know the differences between this and other phones, but this phone should have 2 Sim card slots (Covered with silver foil to start off with), and a battery which reads SUNSANG (Not SAMSUNG).
Some Images:
Sorry that some are pretty bad quality, I was using a temp. webcam when I took them and the webcam had a bad resolution.
UPDATE: I now have a galaxy ace so im not going to be using this phone much. I found a replacement charging port as mine broke. Any problems reply here and somebody will try to help! I dont check back often here, but i know some users do. Not many people have this phone so i thinnk this thread is kinda dead! If anybody wants to update the roms and stuff, feel free. I dont host the roms, its Pappiedappie, so pm him if you cant get the links! Have fun with this fun, its a decent phone for the price! Good luck![/URL]

FLASHING GUIDE
What's needed:
USB data cable
MediaTek USB VCOM drivers
SP Flash Tool ( Latest version SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1224.01)
First of all, make sure that you have MediaTek DA USB VCOM drivers installed.
Flashing the whole ROM
First of all open SP Flash Tool, then click Scatter-loading button to load the correct scatter file
(MT6575_Android_scatter_emmc.txt or MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt, depending on which phone you have) for your device and ignore any message that may appear.
Turn off your phone, remove the battery and replace it after some seconds (and don't turn on the phone).
Press F9 (or hit Download button) and connect your phone into the computer via USB data cable.
The process will start and a red progress bar will appear.
After the red progress bar is complete, there will appear a purple progress bar.
Right after the purple progress bar is complete, a message will appear underneath it:
“Please insert USB cable in x seconds” and then the download will start right away (you will see the yellow progress bar filling up).
When the yellow bar is complete, you'll get a popup with a green circle and Download OK message,
which means that the process has been successfully terminated.
You can now safely disconnect your phone and turn it on. The process ends here.
Flashing only part of the ROM
In case you want to flash just one part of the ROM, that is also possible. In the shown example, only recovery image will be flashed.
Deselect all parts except the one(s) you want to flash and then press F9 (or hit Download button).
The tool will immediately show a warning because not all parts are selected, but you should continue anyway. Safely press Yes to continue.
The download of the chosen partition image will start and after the yellow bar is complete, the popup with the green circle should appear.
Please note that, even though it isn't mandatory to select it on the list of images to flash,
preloader file must be present in the same folder as the other partition(s) that you want to flash, or else phone will not be able to enter into download mode.
Attention: Please follow the instructions carefully. I will not take any responsibility on whatever may happen with your phone.
Very important warning: Always make sure that you trust the sources of the ROM you download and know that it is meant for your phone.
After flashing a wrong preloader, your phone will be completely dead (can't be powered on, it will not charge and won't be detected anymore by the computer) and there is no way to recover it.

Hi,
In this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1921178), if you read through it, I believe there is also somebody else who has a 1 sim phone.
If you take off the back cover, above the battery, there may be a CONCEALED 2nd sim slot, under some foil. If there is, You should have the right phone as the one in this forum, if not, check the other thread.
Cool. I will follow. I have this phone but my battery does indeed say samsung. I have two and they both say samsung.
Nice..good luck with this thread. As long as I own such phone I'll follow this thread and will help when possible. Keep on this work.

Hiya,
I don't actually know how to make the roms, they have been created by others. If you have a link, please PM me it, so i can put it on the main page. However, I think the last link in PappieDappie's sig. is 4.1.1 Dekdee?
I thought that seeming as the other old thread never got updated, I should make a new one, as it would help new people find their way.
Also, if you see a samsung galaxy sIII theme for andriod, please let me know, as normal andriod looks a lil different from samsung andriod
thanks

Hi...
Wonderful Thread......and very informative.......Just couple of suggestions........
1) If you could ask / request all users and posters in this thread to include 2 Pics of their Phone....front and Back (with back cover removed, showing battery, SIM(s)and Memory Card) .....this so everyone can figure out what phone He or She is using and would seek any help from the User of same phone.
2) If you could attach the Pics of the ROM (s) that are posted here.......along with the About System Pic.
I think it would be very helpful to you.....and to all the Users of this thread.....Everyone will know exactly what they are looking for.
Also.....if these ROMS's can be flashed via CWM or Custom Recovery.......that information can also be provided....
these are just suggestions......
Thanxxx

You have to change the home screen background too. On your launcher, press the left menu button, then System Settings, Display, Wallpaper and pick a option from there.
Then again, it depends what rom you are using.

Tips
Hey! I have some tips!! I have a camera.apk that works for our phone. You have to push it to system though. It has camera, video, and panroma (sorry I don't know how to spell it) works perfectly it's not upside down!!! I also have svoice if you want it.I also suggest you guys use xposed if youre rooted and then use tweakbox if you want to change your status bar and clock color! It's so easy!!
Also, I tweaked my 4.1.9 rom, but I'm not sure how to put it together like a zip so others can use it! There are some pics of my rom using nova launcher!

InFocus M512 Root and MIUI Discussion

M512 Running MIUI v5: (Screenshot by me)

Youtube video [first impression]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01XhuJwJzcE

Link to MIUI: http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=597293 (google translate it and go to the Firmware tab in the OP)
Everything is working on MIUI with no crashes or bugs.
To enable Root once MIUI is flashed go to the Security app (not security in settings) -> Permission -> Root Permission
To enable 4G/LTE type *#*#4636#*#* in dialer/phone then go to Phone Information -> Set Preferred network type -> Change from WCDMA to LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) *Note* You may have to do this after every reboot
*EDIT*
flippy.nl said:
all right, condensed post for a one stop shop to upgrade the M512 to the latest firmware (2260) AND root with gapps and the files are based on a actual fast server (mine)
first get this: original 2260 rom
then this: root
and finally: gapps
to get this on the phone:
install the rom first like usual: personal favourite is putting zip on sd card and use the "adb reboot recovery" command and install the zip from recovery.
rebbot and do basic setup (for wifi) as needed.
to get root: connect usb! press volume + and - AND power and HOLD, after 10 sec the phone will turn off/reboot twice, the second time the blue led will turn off, release the power button but keep holding both volume keys. you will get black screen and simple info like imei number.
now use the root.bat to actually root the phone. it will take about 20 seconds. check the screen for any errors, any error will basically fail the root.
install gapps the same way as root.
congrats, you now have a M512 that has a actual working gps, proper data connections and gapps. if you want to check the glonass sat's: watch for sat numbers above 64, those are glonass.

Thanks,
I just falshed the 15CN_1_03A , is the 1080_0_15CN much better rom?
or it doesnt really matter?
the 15CN_1_03A is still a 4.4.2 kitkat.
also how did you managed with the low internal memory ? i have only 500mb free and i had to install link2sd to free some space.
still pretty sad picture.. and i cant find any way around it.

I had no GPS signal until I flashed 1080_0_15CN, and if you flash the root ROM without it, you'll have no GPS signal.
The internal memory is my biggest gripe, I don't know what to do. I think I'll have to use link2sd too, I can't install apps now. It comes up insufficient space ??

I did . now i can get it running as i like.
also delete all the chinese crap - foxconn apps- this should release you more 100-200mb.
i think there is some issue with the system because 4gb is enough for android .
some thing is wrong.

okay i did some research and yes- 4gb should be enough for android-
i'll have to search more for the problem and solution - will get back to you when i'll get some results.

Okay, the phone is still new to find out how to fix it.
i am following a russian forum which will release a custom rom soon ( i believe ) .
also i did found that after you do a link2sd, the memory filled up with cache files., use auto cache cleaner .
this should hold the phone for some time..

I do know a little russian, cant write though..
the rom creator said that there is a lot of work to do and he is on vacation. so expect it next week .

Use ext4 when formatting the sd card, although make one FAT32 partition larger then the ext4.
as well Kitkat 4.4.2 use a lot of internal storage . i wonder if there is a way to reverse to android 4.2.2
but i"ll wait for the new rom first.

Its weird though, its like my phone is missing 1gb or storage? Because that only adds up to 3gb? ?

Well from what I can tell, porting a ROM from a device with the same Screen size, resolution and processor is the best way to go. And i believe the only device that fits that is the 2014 Moto G

How to install Google Apps on Lenovo TB-8804F (TAB 4 8 Plus) Chinese version?

Hello everyone,
After wasting so many hours and trying a million of times, I gave up and decided to seek any help from the community.
I recently bought a Lenovo TB-8804F from China. I had no idea that the tablet would come without any Google Apps or Services installed on it. When I realised that there are no Google Apps, I thought it won't be hard to get Google Apps apks and install them on the devices, should work fine. I'm using the tablet in Australia.
After trying so many different versions of Google Services Framework and Google Play services, I got really frustrated. I keep getting "Google Services framework keeps stopping" or "Google Play services keep stopping" error, flashing on screen so many times in a kind of infinite loop.
The tablet is running Android 7.1.1 (TB-8804F-XXXXXXXXXX-_PRC)
What should I do, please someone help me? Any help would be highly appreciated!

Some more details on this matter:
I have been searching through forums like crazy from last couple of days.
Few things I noticed that my tablet has Chinese firmware installed as the build number ends with _PRC (People's Republic of China) as I mentioned in the original post. All the YouTube videos that I have seen of TB-8804F have _ROW build of the Operating System.
I'm not sure but so far it seems like PRC firmwares doen't all any Google Apps at all, so even if I install the apks, they just crash. Please tell me if I'm wrong.
One solution I could think of is, if someone with the same tablet and _ROW build can create an system image and share it with us, then I can flash that image and get my tablet up and running.
Would that work? I'm new to Flashing ROMs, bootloaders, rooting stuff. Please, anyone? Any good soul out there who can help a poor fellow? I would highly highly appreciate any help. I'm in a bad situation! PLEASE!
Here is my fastboot oem device-info:
Code:
(bootloader) Device tampered: false
(bootloader) Device unlocked: false
(bootloader) Device critical unlocked: false
(bootloader) Charger screen enabled: false
(bootloader) Display panel:
OKAY [ 0.071s]
finished. total time: 0.073s
This is what I'm after:
I found a great guy who is willing to help me out if this idea works:
In the image below, on left is my tablet (with PRC build) and on right is that guy's tablet (with ROW build) and has Google apps installed. The two tablets are exact replica except the slightly different ROM they are running. The Kernel is same, hardware is same, model is same.
Now, I don't know whether it is possible or not, but what I was thinking is creating a system image of the tablet on the right, and flash it on my tablet. But the question is:
a) Is it even possible? Copy firmware from on tablet and install it on another provided the hardware is exactly the same.
b) Would it work? Is there anything else which I should double check?
I'm not finding much help from anywhere, the communities I have posted in are quite silent on this topic.

Finally found a way to root my tablet and install all the Google Apps on it.
For those of you who have got the TB-8804F version of the tablet with _PRC build. I can confirm now, that after rooting the tablet you can easily flash the google apps. I have done it and been using it without any problems now.
All you need is TWRP for your device, here is one from a Chinese developer (thanks a million to him):
https://club.lenovo.com.cn/thread-4285931-1-1.html
Download the TWRP img from the link above, and then follow the instructions from the following website:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/thinkpad-tablet/general/twrp-root-tab-4-plus-tb-x704l-f-tb-t3664407
TIP:
1. Instead of flashing your tablet with TWRP, you can just boot it temporarily. (That is much safer option, as mentioned in the article above).
2. The TWRP for TB-8804F that you can download from the link give above is in Chinese version by default. Use Google Translate live camera feature to translate the buttons, there is one button on TWRP which allows you to change the language to English.
3. Take a full backup of your tablet and store multiple copies of it securely before flashing anything.
4. Download your desired GAPPS from http://opengapps.org/
Hope you can easily do it and enjoy this wonderful piece of hardware.
Cheers!
Hi. I breaker my device trying this method. does anybody has the firmware of this model?
Hi, i wasn't aware that mine is originally TB-8804F that had TB-8704 firmware flashed over it. now i'm stuck in bootloop after flashing the 8704 QFIL, any chance you can share and upload your boot and system image?

I own this tablet from gearbest.com https://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/pp_1052933.html
It has software in the ROW version. Tell me please, how can I make a copy of this system? If I do, I will give it here.
Hello,
I am unable to download the TWRP. Need to register with China mobile number to reply. Can you provide another link. Thanks.

Hi,
I follow the steps but ended up having the machine not bootable. It only shows the Lenovo logo and no further booting. Could someone please upload the original ROM? Thank you in advance.
