[Q] SIM Unlocking Galaxy S3 SCH-S968C - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So, I bought a Galaxy S3 through Straight Talk, because I needed a replacement for iPhone 5 that went swimming and thought this looked better. I was told in the (Walmart) store that it was unlocked, but it isn't, and I need to be able to use it abroad.
Can anyone either give step by step instructions on how to unlock this particular model of phone, or point me in the direction of where I can see it. I am COMPLETELY new to doing this myself and need leading by the hand! I've taken it to two unlock places now (in UK) and they've both told me that they can't do it! I've read through a couple of different threads that talk about rooting and installing a new ROM, but nowhere has a complete guide, and like I said, pretty clueless at this sort of thing!
Really need some help on this, so anyone willing to tell me how it's done, I'd be eternally grateful!!!

Unless you want a brick then no. This is not going to change, don't waste your time trying, ST has gone through a lot of trouble to make it not possible for this phone to go to another network.

There WAS one guy that put a sch-s968c on Verizon with his already active SIM, I don't know how exactly but he didn't register his phone on their network either, he let the SIM fool the system into thinking his IMEI was the one from the other phone, this is not a legit way so nobody around here really approves of stuff like that.

no free way, u have to buy unlock code
Alternatively, if you've had it for longer than 6 months and you are in good standing with AT&T, they can provide you an unlock code. You'll have to rattle a few cages and wait while they submit a request for an unlock code. It took some time and patience but they relented and provided me a code which worked perfectly. Good luck!
I am also wondering this... my brother inlaw got one and needs to unlock it... I know there is a way for the infuse that's free... does anyone know if that would work on the sII as well?

You might also have been thinking of a method available on the 1st Galaxy Tab: specifically, changing a value in a specific address in ROM using a hex editor. I did this with mine and it worked perfectly; however, I don't think anyone has found the corresponding address in the Skyrocket yet. But AT&T did provide me the code after submitting a written request for it, so it's worth a try.
I'll see if I can talk to Rogers for them and get the code... otherwise where is the best place to get it if my carrier wont supply it... either way I'm trying to convince him to swap me for my infuse so I get the 727 since he doesn't need the dual core anyway and mine is unlocked and I use the carrier the phone is locked to

Unlocked S3

Hello. Just wondering if anyone can tell me if an unlocked Verizon S3 can work for other carriers? Such as Straight Talk, Simple Mobile,????
I don't have an account at Verizon but have a chance to buy an unlocked and rooted (no rom picked yet) Galaxy S3 at a good price.
But I need to know if it would work on another carrier. Thanks for your time...

I was told on another forum that I need to unlock the sim. I haven't found how to do that and the person selling this phone doesn't know about that. I don't have another micro sim to try in it. Any suggestions? Thanks
You cant unlock it. Its a cdma device. And the sim is only for lte, not for any other services

Sim Unlock on 1.45.0013

Does anyone know if a sim unlock is possible?
On the old 1.44.0007 it was a simple process with Revolutionary, but I can't seem to find anything similar for the new hboot

I really thought you found a solution for me or a thread I over looked lol.
Those methods work for the old hboot 1.44.0007, not the new 13
Besides that, one of them relies on revolutionary which I can't do, and the other doesn't work period. The sensation guide I follow says strings not found. I got a replacement slide on the new hboot and I need to unlock to run on AT&T. I'm without a phone right now
You can always pay for a sim unlock code, or give to someone who has t mobile for a day, have them call and get a code for free, then give it back to you the next day. Once the code is in there it will be perminent

Paying is not an option, especially if it can be had for free.
Every time I've done this through a friend, the phone didn't have to be actively in use or associated with the account. I asked my friend who is on contract to request a code for me, and she tells me it's a $35 charge to unlock. WTF? Sim unlocks from carriers are always free as long as you have a contract or bought the phone from them directly.
Am I missing something here???
Everytime I've had to do this through tmo it has been free, but the sim had to be in the phone when I called. And I'm always on a no contract contract and have been for the better part of 13years (I don't like paying more to get a free phone)

I can see T-mobile charging for an unlock. A lot of times it depends on who you're dealing with at T-mobile. Some people are nice and will do what you ask, while others will just shut you down.
I know this doesn't answer your question, but I say have your friend try once more. And maybe do what someone else suggested and have the sim in the phone when she calls (so she'd take her sim from her T-mobile phone and put it in your phone), assuming your friend is willing to do that. Then again, whenever I swap my sims around I always put them in another phone on the same plan; maybe T-mobile wouldn't like it if the sim was in a phone not on the persons plan... not sure.
Good luck.

Hopefully I can ask her to try again. I hate to keep asking for favors like this. Not really my style

Possible? Metro phone flashed to a S2 (att)

I got a old S2 I want to give to my buddy but shes on a metro. No sim cards.
Now im not asking for any bad advise that might get people in trouble but the guy at store said don't flash phones anymore but he wouldn't explain what that means (prob didn't know)
What did he mean? If there no sim card how did they put a metro phone onto a S2.
Can I do it? I know I got the tools? I can follow driections good... any advise? or just tell her can't do it..
I like her so try and help if you can
What country do you live in? There is a thread in the general forum with information regarding that it is illegal to unlock phones after 1/26. I don't think anyone really knows what the implications are at this time. See that thread for more info.

don't worry about this lol ^^^^
as for your friend, metro PCs?? is I believe a CDMA network, which doesn't use sim cards. Since your phone is GSM phone its hardware is incompatible, no way to make it work.
if you're looking for a CDMA compatible phone loom for unlocked ones in your area with craigslist.com or eBay, make sure they're unlocked and that u get the imei to check If the phone was stolen
I can do that. Well only reason I thought possible is metro git said they used to flash them. Was he full of it
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
maybe it was a CDMA / international version. the skyrocket is a gsm variant of the s2.
so basically unless he was talking about a different model, yes, he was full of it lol. no sim means no service on this phone

Just an idea about unlocking the bootloader

Okay so I follow a lot on XDA and appreciate everything all the developers do. I was recently in contact with Samsung and Verizon. They both said if the phone is to be unlocked from the carrier, the boot loader becomes unlocked and then you'd be able to flash custom ROMs. This came from technical support from Verizon, and an in store technician. Is this possible? Its just an idea

If you can get them to do that, you'll get a $5000 bounty award for them handing us an unlocked bootchain.
I highly doubt anybody who talked to you knew what they were talking about.

Well Ive always been interested in flashing custom ROMs and stuff like that. My friend directed me to this site a few months ago and I have been following it. Well i got curious last night, contacted Samsung asking why the bootloader was locked. They told me that I would have to contact my carrier, verizon about this issue. I did the live chat thing on Verizons website. They told me to contact technical support and when I did, i was on the phone with them for almost an hour. The guy who i talked to told me if the phone was to be unlocked from the carrier, the bootloader becomes unlocked, thus you could flash a custom recovery and ROM. He told me that they do not recommend this. However, he said after you flash, you can relock to the carrier and it woudl not brick the device. Im just wondering if someone could comfirm this. I dont have a home phone so i couldnt talk on the phone, and unlock from the carrier.
If my phone would let me log on to the mobile app, I would post pictures that I took while talking online to the people. Cant really post a picture of the phone conversation

That tech support person was most likely confused. They were probably thinking about SIM unlocking, not bootloader unlocking.

They do sell an unlocked model. A developer edition phone. Each phone is on 4.1, not 4.3. Each one of those phones is signed with separate key to prevent the sharing of the unlocked bootloader.
You can't update the bootloader on those devices. And you can't take that bootloader and put it on a normal device.
What you're suggesting though isn't going to happen. The only way for them to unlock your bootloader is to give you a nonspecific bootloader to unlock your phone. If you get them to give you that, everyone here will have an unlocked bootloader at their disposal. There's no way Verizon is going to do that, but by all means, if you want to try go for it. Let us know what happens.

What verizon considers "Unlocked" is so you can use a different carriers sim card. No connection to the locked boot chain
