Q&A for [APPS] [ASUS Apps] [ CROMBi-kk& ZOMBi-kk] [October 7]
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer. Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
I installed most of choices the 1.9.4 version on my tab running CROMBi-KK R1P2 including the Asus wallpapers, however when I go to select a wallpaper, the only choice that shows are the CM wallpapers. Where can I find the Asus wallpapers I just installed?
Thanks!

The asus wallpapers are in the wallpaper chooser app that has the asus icon.
Kansasboy, just wanted to say I installed Crombi-KK over my Zombi-X (which I like a bit better) because your version 2 apps work so well in Crombi and seem more developed. The calendar is still busted, of course... (hint hint). Hehehehe.
Sent from my TF700 running Zombi-X ROM or whatever comes next - 'Purity of Heart is to Will One Thing' - that ol' Jesus Freak Soren Kierkegaard
Using Zombi-X, I only want two of the asus apps (email and weather specifically) and was curious if those alone might actually work with the B9 build or should I just go ahead and wait for 2.1?
Thanks in advance and thanks for making the asus apps available outside their stock rom.

Email will work, weather will not. My internet was don't from the snow last weekend so I was unable to upload, will get 2.1 does next weekend.
Yeah absolutely no complaints here. I know plenty of stuff can get in the way. Actually I'm just glad to hear about the email. I know there's plenty of email apps out there but I've always really enjoyed asus' version. And the weather isn't a big deal at all, i can definitely wait for that one. Thanks for the quick reply.
Please post all problems in the main thread. I do not like xda forcing us to have Q&A threads.

Was there any resolution to this issue? I'm using Zombi-x with Asus apps 2.1 and having the same issue.
Thank you in advance

No you need to do a clean flash first. I plan on making uninstall scripts for asus apps, but they are not finished.

Pardon the stupid question but what do you mean by "clean flash" first?
You mean I Need to boot into recovery, do a wipe, reinstall Crombi-KK and then install the ASUS 2.1 apps?

Only off you want to remove Asus apps, unless you know how to remove the apks with a root browser. Asus apps 3.0 is in the works. Stay tuned.

Awesome, thank you very much. I really appreciate your hard work.
I noticed that the Camera app doesn't look like what used to be on my pre-Crombi-KK install. So I'm not sure if the "stock" ASUS tablet had the ASUS camera or the Google Camera.
I did purposely choose ASUS Camera when installing 2.1 Apps. Assuming it's the ASUS camera and not the Google one (how does one tell?), is there a way to revert back to the Google one? I apologize if the camera app is just how things are in Crombi-KK vs. JB 4.2.1 (I think that's what was on before I Crombi'd it).
I just kinda like the "zoom" and ability to switch back and forth between the video recorder/camera vs. what's on the tablet now.

I recently installed TeamEOS nightly rom #9, i came from stock rooted ics, before flashing the EOS rom i backed up my apps using asus app backup tool (which has worked fine in the past, however the EOS rom did not have the stock asus app backup app, so i cannot restore the stock apps and data.
anyways, does anyone have or knows where i can find stock asus apps? more specifically the app backup app?
thanks in advance!
No Asus app can work on AOSP rom as I recently found out myself. Seems they need some proprietary libs that come with asus roms.
That is not true as some do work while others need the lib files or otehr apps. I believe someone put together a package wthin the first ten pages of the eos thread.
Apps I tried:
MyLibrary - does not work
MyNet - does not work
MyCloud - does not work
Supernote - works
Asus Weather - does not work
Asus keyboard - works
AppBackup - does not work
Can't remember the rest, tried a couple of days ago on Team EOS nightly 7.
Actually, Asus Weather does work for me. But it's one of the few that do...
Yeah I'm using ASUS Weather and a live wallpaper, MyWater2.
Polaris and Supernote work also.
Well that sucks, but good to know
What about Widgets? I'm missing the date widget and the prime battery widget bad. I wish we could incorporate those and the Asus sound set on aosp

The attached Asus date widget is working on TeamEOS.
File manager
The stock Asus File Manager is one of the best I have ever used. I wish I could get it back. Anybody have ideas on what framework pieces are necessary to install it? I restored via Titanium backup, but no-go.
Can anyone share the asus file manager apk?
here is the zip created by gnufabio: http://goo-inside.me/apps/gnufabio/Revolver/Revolver4_RemovedApps.zip
All you do is either flash the zip in recovery to get all the apps or using winrar remove certain apps and then flash the zip.
Hope it helps

Thanks mate but the file manager apk is not in it.
I think that's the older one from HC
Try extracting the file manager from any stock ROM based on ASUS.

I have the apk and I can send it to you if you want but it doesn't work on non-Asus ROMs. I took a brief look at it and it seems you will have to make changes to framework.jar of the ROM you are using.
If you extract File manager from stock rom,it will not work in CM9. I hope someone will make the port, because its the best manager since ICS.
Yeah, I just tried doing that and it doesn't work. True, it's the best file manager (for doing simple every day stuff). All the other ones in the market seem to try too hard instead of just being good at one thing.
I would like the ASUS Time widget aka Date widget. Let's see if it works
I'm running Android Revolution 3.4.1 and would greatly appreciate if someone could share the stock Asus App Backup APK. I used it to backup all my app data (saved games, etc) prior to rooting and haven't been able to find it anywhere.
I would also be happy to extract it from a stock blob if someone can give instructions.
Next time, I'll use Titanium Backup

Basically im trying to get convinced on whether unlock the tf300 or not. Most i see around is people with issues and bricking their tablets
Im used to the g2x its my only experience with custom roms and it seems there is a lot more to the tablet than to my phone.
I see a lot of people complaining about not being able to return to stock..Is there an efficient way to restore to non rooted stock through cwm or that other thing forgot name. Also wich of those recovery's is best to be used. I would like to be able to return to stock unrooted at any time in the case I have to return to bestbuy or any similar issue .
I would also like your experience on the roms out there right now what are your preferences wich one is working best, is battery better than stock rom, is it worth it basically .
Do people that have bricked their tablets have done it because of bad luck it has a chance to happen or simply didn't follow the correct procedure.
I'm still a noob into this unlock bootloader and all this I would apreciate it a lot of I could be pointed the correct way of doing things
Any recommendations or advice would be greatly apreciated.
PS: I find ridiculous that interface studders a bit while on power saving mode quad core 1.0-1.1ghz come on.. Hopefully this isnt the case in CM9 ^^
I'm still in my 30 days for replacement so thought it be best to do this while that in case anything opps it died gime new =D

Hi,
If you unlock the bootloader, there is no way back!
I and I think most of the others brick there dev not while unlocking the bootoader than while rooting and then flashing the wrong image inside CWM (one f*** click).
Hope that helps

I tried the custom roms here. CM9, AOKP,
But returned always to stock rom.
The thing is I like the extra functions of the custom rom. But hate it if somethings do not work. And losing the Asus stuff.
Custom roms are still in early development stage.
Hopefully someone makes a stock based custom rom.
I always was able to restore via CWM backup. But there are always risks.

Although I haven't unlocked my bootloader yet, based on my experiences with the TF101 as well as other android devices...if you are looking for the safe route and stability, i wouldn't recommend unlocking your bootloader and installing custom roms yet. As stated above, development for the 300 is still young, which means there will be plenty of issues that has to be ironed out yet. Usually the people who do this early on in development are the devs themselves or people who are willing to take risks and pretty much accept that they can't really use their device as a daily driver. I have experimented with CM9 aosp, miui, and other aosp stuff, and I always find myself going to a custom stock rom because they are not as plagued with as much issues like the others. There is a thread in the development section that is attempting to reverse engineer the unlocker program so that it doesnt run and tell asus on you. Once you unlock your bootloader, your device's warranty will forever be voided. Since rooting does not void your warranty, I am happy with that for now and see what becomes of the unlocker project. When doing any mods to your system, you always want to make sure that you can undo them before you actually do it.

Yeah thing guess ill give this a few more months see how stable things get prety sure things will get refined by then. I just dont see it worth it for us who just want to flash something better that just works and not mess with it for a while. I love cm based roms on my g2x and it saved my from replacing my phone. Its just not ready for this device yet. I do hope the devs keep up the good work

What he said. Well, I tried AOKP but due to a couple of things I switched back to stock rom again (aside from no Slovene keyboard layout (yet) for the dock, it had a few tiny things didn't work as I'd like and it annoyed me ). I also like ASUS's weather and battery widgets and the Day Scene live wallpaper is also great (I managed to install the weather widget and the wallpaper in AOKP, but the tiny things were still there).

You're doing the right thing.
Unless you really need to tinker alot with it - root is enough for now.
It's practically a baby when it comes to custom roms.
Since we don't have a custom stock ROM yet, here are some ways to have a custom stock ROM like experience...
1. Obviously have your TF rooted
2. Download and install adfree from the play store for ad blocking
3. Download and install Titanium Backup from the play store
-Using TB, you can debloat and remove any apps you don't want. I recommend using the "Freeze" option because some bloat apps are needed for the next OTA update to work. Use the "Defrost" option to get them back.
-Using the freeze option, freeze the app, DMClient. This will completely disable the OTA notification from appearing. Defrost it when the next OTA becomes available.
4. Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1641219 for build.prop edits. These are performance and battery tweaks that may improve your TF.
5. Search the play store for any apps that may provide you with the functionality and additional options/settings that you may be looking for in custom roms. Theres apps for just about anything these days.

I was actually doing just this...lol just finished rooting. Btw I dont think TB is needed since ics has option to disable apps wich seems to work fine they dont even load at startup and that is good enough for me. Gona try build. Prop now

You cant disable dmclient from ics...already tried.
ICS is the latest android.
I see no reason to unlock or custom rom.

Hi guys,
I just flashed my first custom rom on my tf101 (JB from team EOS, yay) but found most of the cool apps from asus were gone. I was using mylibrary, mynet, and the note app quite often. I was wondering where I can find those apps, and how to install them. I assume once you have the apk its fairly easy, but I just want to be sure.
Thanks

Also, Polaris office? Can anyone post an apk or a CWM flashable zip that works for JB? I'm not able to ask this on the ROM thread as I don;t have enough posts.

Limit number of Widgets
Limit apps with notifications (Disable noifications on apps if you can)
Limit number of apps you have installed (Don't go download happy and fill up your internal storage)
Limit multitasking (The more apps running the slower it will get)

The Thread is open I hope that anyone with a Cruz T301 is still interested in this ROM. Most people have moved on but I figured I would provide files downloads and help. Anyone that wants to play around with my update and put different things into can. Feel free to use it as a base for other Roms.
Awesome.. Don't quit now! Over clock kernel would be the best thing it's ever seen!
Been using this rom for a few days now and I love it... it's fast, sleek and haven't had any problems with it... excluding the root issue..
Any updates on when the root issue is going to be fixed? I've tried my hand at rooting it myself but keep running into the dreaded "SU: unknown user root" issue.

Problem with Opera
Hello,
First thank you for this great work.
I installed Resurrection 2.2.1 version without problem.
By cons when I try to install Opera message says "your device is not compatible."
Same with Firefox. Any idea?
Thank you for your answers.
Excuse my bad English is not my native language!
Works great! Thanks Feyer
Hi I am a noob android enthusiast that got a t301 from a friend to mess around with. After reading a lot of your earlier forum work on this project I decided to try the Alpha Resurrection and it works great Thank you soooooo much for making this tablet useful again! Your tweaks and deletions of garbage was just what this baby needed. Don't know where we would all be without yourself and Steven J Hill, but thanks to you both. I signed up for xda just to tell ya that. Your directions were clear and worked great! I think some folks that were having probs may not have cleared out all caches like you suggest, as I have encountered similar probs on other roms. All in all a great ROM and it has been fun reading the forums and watching ya grow into your own dev self Keep up the great work and I'll keep watching for updates.
Great development

No I have no clue how to develop a kernel... had a few guys peeter out on me with development and so I have slowed down on making a new version. For some reason Root doesn't hold and I have tried all the tricks I know. It is weird developing for MiPS
I had never heard of MiPS before this tablet. But I'm starting to mess with developing, so I'll give a kernel a go when I get to that point

Yea it seems like MIPS is generally used in china only and so development is very limited. You can always swing by http://www.imgtec.com/mips/developers/ and get started there... kinda a pain to work with since I have not really found any other developers to help me out I'm not really an experienced dev haha

Hi..
Im planning on upgading to omni kitkat, but im guessing omni is kinda like aosp and wont have the apps and widgets that came with my tablet...
Some roms based on stock, as grimlock or cromi, have some installer to flash them back, but dont know if there is a generic one to flash the apps to an aosp or aokp based rom...
While most of the included apps are bloatware, there are a few i do would like to keep...
File Manager
Movie studio
Mynet
Polaris Office
The asus keyboard
Asus task manager widget
Asus battery widget
And possibly the asus quick settings
Anyone knows if there is a package, something like an aroma installer with all that?
I would ask for the features on the omni rom for tf300 on the thread, but im 1 post short to post on developer threads...
Thanks!

Most of the Asus stock apps require the Asus stock framework that the AOSP doesn't have. There are replacement Apps for all of those you have listed with similar functionality, but it wont be the same.
