If your on 4.1.2 it is indeed bootloader unlocked but you would need to unlock it first
I'd suggest either using the casual option which is in the Q&A section or looking up ez unlock
From my Wicked S3 on SOKP

Yes. 4.1.2
I'll read up on unlocking it. Thanks

Personally I found casual to be quite simple to root and unlock the bootloader

Wait 6 months from when you bought the phone, call att and ask to talk to supervisors a few times, say you're going out of the country and hey should give you one assuming you've been with them for a while and are in good standard payment wise

"My bad" I read it to fast, with all the excitment about the bootloader being unlocked i assumed thats what the OP ment.
So I'm not very savvy on the programming side of things but if I hold off is it possible for a 1 click root / boot unlock combo program

section 1 of my guide is the closest your going to get for a 1 click program...there is no programming needed. Download 3 files, open causual, plug in device, make sure it says device connected, choose debugFSroot, do it! If thats too hard then modding your device may not be in your best interest.
Not hard at all in just asking I've been modding for roughly 3 years so little snide comments like that really aren't necessary thanks

Unlocked bootloader?

Does the s3 come with an unlocked bootloader? I think I've seen that you can buy it unlocked. Just got my s3 this Christmas and came from the droid x2 that always had a locked bootloader. I've got a lot of learning to do if the bootloader is unlocked.

One rooted, you can unlock bootloader and install recovery by using playstore apps "Ez-Recovery" and "Ez-unlock"

Sweet thanks. Also I'm aware that the American version has a dual core processer and 2GB of ram compared to the international version which has a quad core and 1GB of ram. His would this affect performance between these devices?

I made the same jump... x2 to the s3. Quite the jump huh?
my tapatalk signature sucks more than yours.
Yes I am absolutely loving the s3. The x2 had so many problems. Was out less than a year and Motorola stopped updating it. And the bootloader was locked. And there was but only 1 trusted Rom for it. Motorola provided absolutely no support. I'm glad I'm with Samsung now.

If you are already on JB which you most likely are you need to follow this guide
If you are starting with a new phone with JB pre-installed then the previously posted guide is the way to go.

Definitely a custom rom like Cyanogenmod if you know how to do it. If not just stick with updating.
Ok, thx will try it

4.3 and flashing Roms.

I am on stock 4.3 with the Knoxed 4.3 boot loader. From everything I've read, I can still flash CWM and custom Roms, as long as they are 4.3+?

Nope, once on 4.3 you can not flash custom rom/kernel or cwm/twrp. Only thing you can do is root. There's a work around which very limited in custom TW rom flashing is safestrap. Also they're trying to hack the bootloader so that with safestrap you can flash more compatible custom rom. Right now don't flash anything or else you would brick your phone.
This thread is confusing, then.

Did Sprint lock their bootloader like Verizon and AT&T did?
Because to my understanding it was Verizon locking the bootloader that locked us down and not Knox.

Sprint doesn't have a locked bootloader like we do, the information about knox on that thread is very accurate. However, we have a locked bootloader so flashing roms or recoveries doesn't apply to us.
