After using sunshine how do i get root? - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im currently running kitkat 4.4.4. on my ultra. I have searched and searched and can't seem to find a working root for my build on droid ultra. I am aware that there is a app called sunshine that unlocks your bootloader (for 25 bucks) but i have two questions regarding this. 1. when using sunshine does it erase all your data when unlocking the bootloader? 2. After unlocking the bootloader is there anyway i can get root on my phone? And if anyone knows of a way to root the ultra on 4.4.4 please feel free to tell me!
Thanks,
droidusr2014

1. Sunshine did not erase data for me.
2. Follow this write up http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2645122 and install supersu through TWRP

Ok thanks for your reply. Sorry to bother you with one last question, so just making sure that sunshine won't take my data and it will work without problem on my droid ultra running Kitkat 4.4.4? And also after this I will be able to get root?
Thanks,

Sunshine doesn't work on 4.4.4 unless already rooted. Only 4.4.3 and below.

By all means, let the app check for you, but the failure rate is pretty consistent on 4.4.4.

[Q] keep root for 19.6.3 ota?

I have a rooted Verizon droid maxx. I am really worried about losing root if I take the ota. Is there any safe way to take the ota without losing my root? I've read like 2 posts of people saying the pro version of supersu and Survival mode keeps root. I've also read 1 post saying that they accidently took it and didn't lose root. Can anyone confirm this?
I would like to know the answer to this as well. I was just prompted for this update.
at that i know most users keep the root with Superuser in Survival mode
u can try and let us know

Considering that you cannot downgrade to a exploitable version of android if it doesn't work, I think I will pass.
Here is a guy that did it and said he keep root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52763259
I believe the one that did it accidentally had an unlocked boot loader which makes root possible no matter what.
I saw another post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52795898
Saying that the biggest part of the update was the radio which can be flashed without taking the whole upgrade if you are worried about it.
Me personally, my BL is unlocked and I'm going back to 4.2. I've seen nothing but negatives (bad battery life, FC's, etc) with the updates. I might would stick it out if there was some new features but they seem like just more of the same.
I used survival mode and took the ota and still have root. Unfortunately I lost my WiFi tether and am trying to get that back now.

I removed the wifi apk hack, put super su into survival mode and took the OTA. Worked out good and I retained root.

However, we've both lost TWRP recovery and can't seem to be able to flash it.

Yep, all root functions seem to be working fine.RootChecker says I have root, I was able to install the latest version of Busybox, and TiBu and SecureSettings both get root access.
Now if somebody had some thoughts on flashing TWRP recovery...

Maybe I'm brain dead. I thought I had TWRP on these phones after SlapMyMoto, but I guess it retained the stock recovery.
Too many Android devlices... can't keep track of what's running what.
I thought the big issue was not retaining root, but completely losing the Write-Protection off ability (ie ability to use xposed). I'm locked bootloader and don't see a reason to unlock.

[Q] How to root Droid Maxx on 4.4.4

Sorry if I missed something as I am a new member, but as title says, I've RSDed Droid Maxx to 4.4.4 and lost root, is there a way to root it again so that I can get native tethering to work again. Thanks!
Nope, you are going to have to wait until a new root method is released. You are as stuck as possible.

There's always paying for the unlock code, depending on what build you have. Got my code couple days ago and it worked. So much easier having boot loader unlocked.

How do I go about unlocking a Verizon Droid Maxx? I assume after unlocking i'll have the ability to root it, which will allow for native tethering app to get modified and work.

So then the only other option (aside from waiting for 4.4.4 root exploit to get figured out) is to get Developer Edition of Droid Maxx? If I get that, is root pretty much guaranteed every time there is an update, including will I be able to root 4.4.4 and therefore modify native hotspot's entitlement file? Thanks.

Potential Bootloader Unlock for Non-Dev Edition
Sent From My Droid Ultra
I'm sorry and I assume most of you will disagree with me, but 45 dollars is a rip off to have my phone rooted. I've never had a rooted android but I had a jail broken iPhone and I did love it, although I would never had paid for it, I don't see why I would invest such a high amount onto something that will never bring me more than advanced customization(I'm assuming that all that root does as its all that jailbreaking seemed to do) maybe I'm saying this because I'm not a developer myself and I don't work on these things, but having my phone rooted will always seem as a low priority. If it were 5-10 dollars id probably give in because of temptation to have cooler feaututes on my device. Anyway this is just my point of view and just wanted yo share .

Side note: Wish there was an easy way to get rid of the unlocked bottloader message on the boot splash screen. I dont want to flash anything without a good way to revert just in case (see what i did there) of OTAs.

How to root?

Hello,
I have verizon razr hd xt926 stock version 4.4.2 i am unable to root through towelroot what is another solution for root, unlock bootloader and recovery.
Please help.
Take a look around and read a little bit but I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned a few times that once you upgrade to stock 4.4.2 there is no such thing as rooting or unlocking your bootloader anymore. They've locked it down. Google the specific version that you have.

Yes. You will forever have that device running whatever it is you have. NEVER take new OTAs until you read up on them and learn the effects of what the update does. Some updates are good to go and will allow you to unlock and root. Others, which it looks like in your case, will not allow you to unlock and root.
Best bet, find a broken device on ebay or amazon that is still able to be unlocked, buy it, and have it shipped to you. Also purchase any tools needed to open your device and a T5 screwdriver. Do a motherboard swap and then follow any guides on here to get the unlockable OTA to your device.
Good luck with this issue, we'll be here to help where/when we can.

Downgrade to JB 4.2.

Hello, I've done a little research and I need your help.
I have Motorola Droid Maxx non-dev with 4.4.4., 21.11.21.obake, SU4.21 and I would like to downgrade to first firmware. I know that I need unlock my bootloader and Sunshine app works with SU4.21 well so I will use it. My problem is I need working root. I can't find any. I tried kingroot and other 2 similar to kingroot with no succes. Please help.
Thanks a lot.

My maxx is messed up and needs some work so I have been playing with it.
Once your android version gets to 4.4.4 you will get a downgrade security warning and it will not let you proceed with the downgrade. At least I have not found a way.
But... If you use mfastboot you can downgrade 'parts' of it. There are some things like the gpt image that will trigger the warning and not let you flash that part, but I have been able to get my maxx 'partially' downgraded so that the version listed is 4.2.2 using mfastboot by flashing one part at a time.
