I have 4.4.2 and finally rooted can I take ota .... I'm trying to install viperone m8 but I see it is for the 4.4.3 base... It's there an easy way to accomplish this I love viperrom but I don't quite understand if it ok to take the ota and if I will keep root... That's for the replys and help in advance you guys are the besr
It's possible, but there are a lot of requirements. Better to just apply the firmware extracted. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723159
Do what deefster said. Flash the firmware from my firmware thread an then flash the new viper an you will have everything you need from ota besides the extra bs..
You will lose root most likely every ota. But that's no issue you can re-root in under a min. But I would never take a ota EVER(less you r wanting a system dump for development reason)
Thanks guys

what is the sure way to root thunderbolt on the latest OTA, i was rooted before but lost root on the update i waited a few weeks before rooting again and now im searching if there is a way to root the device atm?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401959 you need to go here you have to downgrade. Then you can use revolutionary
thank you for your support, after i downgrade how do i update and keep root?
You dont. Just run the downgraded. Or flash a custom rom if u want root. The radios from the upgrade are available in the dev section as well. If u want them. Supposidly better handoff betweeen 4g and 3g with the new radio

I know a little late on the scene and don't know if you figured this out but..
If you mean by "update", running the stock 605.9 then..
-after downgrading to 605.5 using the provided link
-root with revolutionary
-at that point you can flash the "rooted" version of 605.9 or any other ROM as mentioned before, this will allow you to keep root and prevent Big Red from trying to push the OTA
Hello New here, but I am good with this stuff just new as an XDA member. So here is my issue. I have a rooted Rezound stock Rom, but it is on the original software so it is missing the very first OTA which was a firmware update. Now I have the leaked RUU which I have flashed on another Rezound but later bricked flashing a kernel. SO I have a new one rooted with original software again. My question is I have Hansoon2000's All-In_One-Root program. If I flash the RUU again(which causes me to loose root) in order to update my firmware and radio version and be up to date in order to flash newer roms. Only I have lost root, so is it possible to root after flashing up to the New OTA formware? Does Hansoon's root tool work on the newer software. Much appreciated I feel this is pretty clear so let me know if I need to explain anything further. Heard this is a great community so I'm excited to be here and look forward to learning more.
Hi i got jb update via ota i downloaded it a then click on restart and install its started to install then android lying with exclamation mark came stays there and reboot but i am still on 4.0.4
Help
Seems like you are going into recovery
is it happening by itself?
You could try a flashable stock JB firmwares, try this if you want its just like OTA firmware but you do it by yourself

just now noticed my bootloader is unlocked .. could that be the problem.. am new to nexus s .. please guide me how to root nexus s and best custom rom for it.. since is a non warranty one i dont want to take risk and brick it
No. You're new. Read the stickies .. how to etc. You can basically learn all you need by just reading those.
Usually the information I need I can find easily here, I've never had a need to register and post until today. I've searched but can't quite find the answer to my question. So I apologize in advance if my search skills have failed me this time.
I am on a VzW SGS3 that has taken the unfortunate MD3 update. I am rooted and unlocked already. I have ClockworkMod Recovery installed. Everything is as OK as MD3 can be. I had followed the instructions in this thread in the past:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
It appears the users in that thread are awaiting the MF1 bootchain from the latest posts and other users have tried to take the OTA MF1 update and got the dreaded triangle, were forced to reflash stock, take all the OTA updates and await the bootchain to unlock again.
So with that bit of background, my question is thus: what is the easiest way to take on new OTA updates without losing all my data?
I can flash a stock ROM someone made for MF1 but I'm pretty sure I lose data since the best way to flash ROM's is clean. I don't want to deal with dirty flash issues. Do I really have to go through and set up Nova Launcher (and other apps) just the way I like it again? Do I have to go through each app and backup settings (or use Titanium?) I don't really want to go stock, take all OTA's then use Casual just to get MF1 now. I think that would require clean install too and I can certainly wait as Casual doesn't really give you a choice of your root and recovery elements from what I understand.
This thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974114 ) provides a nice stock image without losing any data. It's back to MB1, then one would take the OTA updates, then follow the rest of the guide to root and unlock. Still need to wait for the MF1 bootchain though - is THIS the best way?
Basically, what is the "best practice" when one is already rooted, unlocked and has a custom recovery to take on new OTA updates?

Just flash Scrosler's stock rooted ROM and you'll be good to go. You won't have any problems with not wiping (except for it might be a little itchy :laugh::silly
The best "practice" is not to take an OTA when you're rooted because chances are you will already be running it before it is out! Also, it is always a good idea to keep a backup of your apps with TiBu and use Nova to backup your desktop settings.
Thanks, I did just flash that ROM. However, my Baseband Version still shows MD3 (the Build number is MF1, however) and I still get the nag screen to take the OTA update. Not sure what to do here. I think for the time being, I'll just experiment with some other ROM's and see if I truly miss anything from Samsung.
Flash the MF1 firmware package after to get the radio.
Thanks. I did such and everything now says MF1 but this still doesn't seem ideal. My root seems to be missing (Secure Settings isn't working, I see ads in apps) and my superuser app is missing. So, perhaps I have to reload that and allow the other apps su access again? Additionally, I'm still getting nagged by the OTA update.
So before I flashed Scrosler's stock rooted ROM, I performed a backup of my current build using CwM. I didn't necessarily care for the results of the flash since I was still being nagged (not sure how to deal with that part yet) I just decided to restore my backup. Well that just screwed everything up since the /system portion wouldn't restore. Wonderful.
So I used Odin to load the no-wipe-necessary MB1 file, accepted all the subsequent OTA's (it was only two - the first one being the application of the MB1 update.zip) then just used the Casual root method on a machine with Java installed. Worked great. I'll think I'll just leave well enough alone until the next update.
OTA
I took the MF1 update OTA. Then I used the root method provided by open1your1eyes0 to root and unlock. Still waiting for the final boot gain though.
I know there's still speculation about whether we're even getting the images today, but I want to be prepared.
I'm wondering about the best way for me to upgrade to lollipop. I've been searching the Internet all morning but I've been getting conflicting answers, so I want to clarify once and for all here...
I'm currently running kitkat 4.4.4 with the bootloader unlocked, clockworkmod installed, and root access gained. I'd like to avoid using toolkits if possible, and I'd hopefully like to avoid wiping all my data. I don't mind rerooting if I lose root, since that should be easy enough on a nexus device. I've read that rooted phones won't get an ota update, which is fine because I'd rather get it sooner than that anyways from Google's developer download page. I've also read that an upgrade from kitkat to lollipop definitely requires a wipe, but I figure there has to be a way around that. Can I use adb or fastboot? Or clockworkmod? Will these wipe the device? What are my options?
Thanks so much!
if you want to keep your data and root then wait several hours after source is released and flash a rooted version, dirty. or you can flash the factory img. but you can not install an ota.
@rootSU its starting..!
