[Q] Troubleshooting laggy TF700T - Asus Transformer TF700

Hello,
My TF700T is pretty laggy and I'm trying to workout if there's something under the covers that I can remedy.
Looking through the logcat (as attached), I can see some disturbing recurring items that might be contributing to these issues:
Failed on audit_set_pid with error: Protocol not supported
Caused by: libcore.io.ErrnoException: connect failed: ECONNREFUSED (Connection refused)
I'm on TWRP v2.8.0.1, and believe that I'm on BL 10.6.1.14.10 (based on the contents of device_info.txt).
Looking at the following, it's suggested to update the bootloader:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2668805
However looking at the following it seems as though I have the most recent version of the BL?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425383
Can anyone advise help point me in the right direction? Apologies for the newb questions, I'm just getting nowhere fast!

You find your bootloader version on the bootloader menu screen (Power and Volume Down) and you seem to be on the latest 10.6.1.14.10.
When's the last time you did a clean install?
I would do a factory wipe in TWRP and reflash the rom.
You can restore your apps from a TiBu backup, but should not restore any system settings.
Also backup your launcher and restore it after the flash and you shoud be minutes away from your ususal setup.

Hmmm ... I tried a TWRP Factory Reset and installed cm-11.0-20140403-CROMBikk4.4.2-tf700t_Signed.zip that I already had ready to go, and it is now hanging on the CROMBi-KK prompt when I reboot (stuck for at least half an hour). Have downloaded cm-11.0-20140921-tf700t-crombi-kk-R1_signed.zip and will try to install this, hopefully this resolves.

Ok, I'm back up with the latest Crombi-KK goodness, but the system is still pretty laggy and there are still some disconcerting logcat messages as below. Any suggestions on how to resolve?

Sorry, adding attachment, link was rejected when I tried posting from device.

Did you check you bootloader version by booting into it?

Looks like you may be on to something, bootloader displays the following. I'm assuming it needs updating based on this output? If so, what is recommended?
Key driver not found ... Booting OS
Android cardhu-user bootloader <1.00e> released by "WW-epad-10.6.1.14.4-20130329" A03
Starting USB fastboot USB download protocol
The following message has also appeared a couple of times. Have select "I'm Feeling Lucky" both times, I wonder what's causing this and if there's a more permanent fix?
System UIDs Inconsistent
UIDs on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable.

Yep, your bootloader is just a touch too old. The .4 boots the KK rom, but it doesn't seem to run it well.
Head over to the CROMi-X 5.4 thread in the Development section. Scroll down in the OP until you see the 10.6.1.14.10 bootloader/TWRP package and download it.
Flash that package in your current TWRP and reboot.
Then boot to recovery and check the version. sbdags kind of promised just yesterday to update the package to include TWRP 2.8.0.1, and lj kind of promised to take care of it also. But I don't know if they did already - there was a lot of banter about "lazy bastards" going back and forth [emoji12]
If you see that you got TWRP 2.6.0.1 after the package flash, just flash 2.8.0.1 in fastboot and you should have no further trouble.
I don't think you will see the inconsistent system UI message again, but if you do, clean install CROMBi again.
BTW, where did you get that 'device info' file? I suspect it pulled the bootloader version from Software Information > Build Number. The only way to really tell your bootloader version running custom software is from the bootloader screen.

Lol ... love the banter, on the contrary, you guys are doing a stellar job helping others make the most of their devices, keep up the great work!
Thanks heaps ... have uploaded the bootloader to 10.6.1.14.10 using the following:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-tf700/general/firmware-10-6-14-10-twrp-t2867157
The bootloader now says "Android cardhu-user bootloader <1.00 e> released by "WW-epad-10.6.1.14.10-20130801" A03", so looks like I'm on the right version now.
However, even after installing the same CROMBikk zip, I can't boot into the OS anymore (have tried a few installations to no avail).
Instead, I get the following (not sure if this is a problem or just a new feature of the latest bootloader), after which always returns to TWRP:
[4.xxxxxx] preinit ######### starting #########
Detecting filesystems...
mmcblk0p8 /data on internal (UDA) -> ext4
mmcblk1p2 /data on microSD (for Data2SD/ROM2SD) -> not present
mmcblk1p3 /system on microsSD (for ROM2SD) -> not present
4.xxxxx fm34: [fm34_config_DSP] DSP ACK, read 0xc0:1
4.xxxxx fm34: [fm34_config_DSP] Load TF700T DSP parameters
After this it reboots and enters TWRP.
Am I doing something wrong? Have I missed anything? Are there any additional steps I need to follow to ensure the integrity of the install?
It has also reverted back to TWRP v2.6.1.0 which you'd preempted, and in the past I've usually used the ADB / Terminal method to install TWRP to my device. However, given that I can't boot into my device, I can't do that anymore. So I've entered "Fastboot USB download protocol", and I have the option of "RCK", "Android" or "Wipe Data". I can't see any options to "select the usb icon and hit volume up to confirm" as per http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/105, and I can't even see the device anymore from the PC fastload utility. If I can get the OS up and running this wouldn't be such an issue, and I'd simply use the "ADB / Terminal method" as I have in the past.
I note that after the install, I get the following prompt in TWRP which I haven't seen before. Doesn't seem to matter if I opt to fix or not, I still can't boot into the OS.
Fix Superuser Permissions?
Root permissions appear to be lost.
Fix root permissions now?
(Fixes permissions on su binary and app)
BTW, where did you get that 'device info' file? I suspect it pulled the bootloader version from Software Information > Build Number. The only way to really tell your bootloader version running custom software is from the bootloader screen.

The device info file was created by CatLog, it seemed like the easiest way to determine the bootloader, but in retrospect it was inaccurate. Lesson learnt!

Mhhh, so you flashed CROMBi-KK with TWRP 2.6.0.1?
That might be the problem here.
The Teamwin instructions are a little outdated. You are in fastbot mode when you are on the screen with the 3 icons.
If you need more instructions on flashing the recovery in fastboot, check this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2688891

Thanks, great post. I'll use it to do some further troubleshooting and let you know how it goes

You're spot on again, after upgrading to TWRP 2.8.0.1 and reflashing the ROM, all is well in the world again (OK, at least on my tablet), doing a TiBU restore as we speak!
Thanks again for a fantastic guide. Tried a number of things despairingly and as a last gasp tried connecting the cable to another USB port. They're both USB 2.0 and both work fine for everything else so can't see why it would be an issue, but in the new USB port it works a charm. Thanks again so much, highly appreciated!

In my excitement of having resurrected my tablet, I didn't really comment on the end goal, which was to improve tablet efficiency and remove/reduce lag. Happy after playing around for a couple of days that things are much smoother with the latest bootloader and ROM. I can still see "Failed on audit_set_pid with error: Protocol not supported" frequently occur in the catlog, but I guess if the tablet is otherwise functioning well it isn't an issue. Thanks again for your help.
The ROM did unfortunately corrupt itself overnight when the device ran out of battery and it kept hanging on the Crombi-KK splash screen. After trying a few things I reflashed the ROM and restored again. A bit annoying, but not sure how it could be avoided (other than keeping it charged in like I'd usually do, although I'd like to think that things wouldn't so easily be corrupted).

[Q] How to restore CWM recovery from TWRP terminal?

[SOLVED]
So after having my Transformer for some time now (unlocked, rooted, and running CROMI) it began to get sluggish. I wanted to upgrade to something else, and decided to try PA HALO http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2376927
I missed something somewhere, prob the fact that I installed TWRP over my CWM that I had from long ago, instead of upgrading to the new CWM, or the fact that I'm still on the 10.4.4.25 bootloader. I rebooted into recovery, flashed the PA zip, rebooted into recovery, flashed the new GAPPS, and wiped the cache and Delvik. When I went to boot it up the "ParanoidAndroid3+" text and neon jellybean/fish thing show up, then nothing.
I (stupidly) did not make a new backup before doing this change (though there is one from my CWM, but TWRP doesn't seem to recognize it).
ADB does not seem to be working. When I select the USB icon, while using the power+volDown, I get the message "starting fastboot usb download protocol" and ADB does not see the device. If I let the device try and boot (when it gets stuck at the neon jb/fish) ADB sees the device, but gives the error <waiting for device> when I try and flash the new CWM. I seem to be able to access the terminal from TWRP, so I know there is a way to load the old CWM restore files, I just don't know how.
Help is needed.
found a way to do it, but I guess it took away my root when I flashed the new rom. Now I get "su is not recognized" from the terminal..... I'm downloading http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2107271 and will try to get the os to boot. I can always re root the device, but I kinda need the device to boot into something first.
You missed quite a lot to get yourself into that pickle.
The second line of the PA thread reads:
GET THE LATEST BOOTLOADER AND RECOVERY
The link leads you to the CM 11 thread where it says in no uncertain terms that you need to be on the 10.6.1.14.4 or later bootloader. You think a 10.4.4.25 bootloader will run a JB 4.3 rom?
I hope you get it working.... Good luck

Thanks for the kind kick to the nuts guy. I flashed the new bootloader (10.6.1.14.4) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2223918 that was already on the root of my tablet, downloaded GAPPS (4.2.2-4.3) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405292 and placed it on MicroSD card, and already had the PA rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2039557
Did some searching and came across a thread (can't find it now) that said to wipe before and after installing GAPPS.
It works now. The process went as follows:
1. Flash bootloader and reboot into recovery
2. Wipe cache/Delvik, flash GAPPS, wipe again
3. Flash rom
4. Reboot and wait for the rom to settle
Something is still wrong, or I'm not understanding the layout of PA, because I'm missing some options and buttons for some apps I've downloaded. I've made a back up with TWRP (for just in case), and am going to try getting CM 10.2 on there.

Tablet Not Mounting

My buddy is having a hard time flashing a new ROM on his tablet. Currently he's running Cyanogen with TWRP.
Apparently TWRP formatted his tablet randomly and he hasn't been able to install a new ROM because his tablet won't mount the system or cache. It keeps failing. Neither system or cache are selectable to mount and it says "E: unable to mount '/system' "
And ADB isn't pushing anything.
Any thoughts why?

TWRP formatted his tablet randomly??? Never heard of such a thing!
And we need more information:
What versions of bootloader, CM, TWRP and you are trying to push what in ADB?
Do you have access to fastboot? What rom are you trying to flash?
What did he do - as best as he can remember?

Did he have the tablet encrypted or did the request for a decryption password just show up unexpectedly? If it's the latter - I have read about this a number of times - unfortunately still cannot make rhyme or reason out of it, but I suspect it's a corrupted recovery....

If that returns the tablet's serial number, you're in business. You could then flash CWM 6.0.4.6 in fastboot. I would probably wipe data (hope he has everything backed up) and flash the rom.

@lj50036 could you elaborate on the issues of TWRP 2.6.3.2.? sbdags included it it in his bootloader/TWRP flash package for CROMi-X and one guy just softbricked flashing CROMi_X after flashing that package, he seems to have done everything else correctly and I suspect the recovery is buggy???

My issues are first hand.. It flashes just fine, everything seems to function correctly.. It's only the wiping of data that has a issue.... It just hangs says its doing it thing but nothing ever happens..After a hard reboot TWRP now asking for password will not mount any storage of any kind... The fastest way to a soft brick.... I posted on the TWRP forum, about the issue... Maybe we need a new forum letting people know about the issue, so we dont end up with a riot!!!

It was version 2.6.3.0.
He had no decrypted files he was just seeing what it did when he hit decrypt data. I asked for a password which he obviously never set and hit cancel. And it said he had nothing in internal storage.
However, after the install froze on an older Cromi version I put on his sd card (from my 700t), we held down the power button and rebooted. It booted up fine to his previous Cyanogen 10.2. WITH all of his internal storage still there, EVEN THOUGH, he did a format from TWRP already.
So it's definitely a problem with TWRP. His tablet is back to the way it was before the fiasco and he is afraid to do anything else.

Are you sure about this???
Because TWRP 2.6.3.0 was too big for the recovery partition of the TF700 and never properly installed????
For any reliable advice you need to provide the bootloader version (which you still haven't given us) and if you have a working system, you should be able to boot into recovery and give us it's version number.
For installing CM 11 on the TF700 you need to be on the 10.6.1.14.10 bootloader and have the CWM 6.0.4.6 recovery.
TWRP 2.6.3.2 supposedly works with CM 11, but I would not trust it - read about too many problems with it....
And anyway - in terms of performance, neither CM 10.2 or CM 11 beats CROMi-X on this tablet - period.

Hey guys, this is Wade, the cause of the whole fiasco.
It was the newest TWRP 2.3.6.2, but I imagine it might've been a problem with the bootloader? I had no idea that the bootloader needed updating; I thought that once you could boot what you wanted, that was it, but obviously I'm mistaken. Where do I find the bootloader version? It was the latest posting to the Asus download site, or the V8, 2013 bootloader edition for JB. 4.2
Basically, I had tried several times that day installing CM11 and the gapps with CWM 6.0.3.1 (which ROM manager says is the up to date version? WTF?) to no avail. It kept giving me md5sum errors, and I couldn't find anything to easily fix that. CWM would also not respond to commands from ROM manager other than backups... If i told it to bootload and flash, it would just reboot normally... ADB also would fail, despite saying that i COULD connect to fastboot.
So i read on the actual CM forum that the newest TWRP 2.6.3.2 would do the trick as well, and tried that. But ya, once i booted into twrp, it threw a password query at me. I never set a password, so I pressed cancel, and that's when the partition showed up as blank.
I went to reboot, but it warned that I had no OS installed. That's about when I freaked out. It would see my microSD fine, but wasn't able to talk to /system to actually flash anything, and ADB would just give "error:closed" if I tried any mount commands there.
So ya, I invited my buddy over, and he recommended we try flashing an old CROMI-X, and it WORKED! sort of. It started to flash, even though a previous CM 10.2 and it's gapps (which I was already running and knew worked) wouldn't!
Then it froze installing Youtube, and after ten mins we held down the power.
And it booted back into CM 10.2 like nothing had happened.
Even though TWRP said I had succesfully factory reset AND wiped AND formatted the internal by that point. Lies!
So ya, I imagine it's a combination of pilot error, and TWRP being a little fluky. My question - where did that 87% CROMI-X flash go, and how can I get rid of it? And i reflashed CWM 6.0.3.1, but I'm still wary of going into the bootloader, just in case bastard TWRP is still lurkin

So it was definitely the old ASUS 4.2 bootloader I was using. I had no idea that dasunsrule32 wanted us to use his April 2013 bootloader for 10.2 as well, the site that told me how to put CM 10.2 on my tab said to use the old ASUS one.
Finally manned up and tried my first soft reboot, and it brought up the ASUS menu with the blue loading bar - it seemed like it wanted to go into bootloader. Then it went blank and the regular ASUS logo showed, and then the CM logo and booted. So i didn't walk away from this unscathed; something low-down got messed with...
Can I update the bootloader to his, despite the problems ive been having? How do I do that?
And why does ROM manager only offer 6.0.3.1??
And since CM11 is based on 4.4, wont it eventually be better than CROMi-X?

So it was definitely the old ASUS 4.2 bootloader I was using. I had no idea that dasunsrule32 wanted us to use his April 2013 bootloader for 10.2 as well, the site that told me how to put CM 10.2 on my tab said to use the old ASUS one.
So can I update the bootloader to his, despite the problems ive been having? How do I do that?

I haven't tried booting into bootloader, or even a full power down/power up yet. This is the device I use for school and right now would be a pretty sh**y time for anything serious to happen to it.
I am mainly afraid that TWRP hasn't left yet, or that I won't be able to access the CWM that ROM manager says I just successfully reflashed.
I don't really want to plug it back into the computer until I know more about what happened to it. Is it likely that the CROMI that we tried flashing or the old TWRP will cause me problems? Remember that CROMI said it was 87% successful (had loaded kernel and system and all that jazz)
And I have 64 bit Win7, it should have appropriate drivers

Jeez - where to start?
First of all: Do yourself a favor and ditch ROM Manager. It does not work well with the TF700 and several people have hard bricked using it. You have been very lucky so far!
Second: Do not flash anything until you are 150% sure you know what you are doing, you understand the requirements for your situation and have everything you need at hand.
Do not flash anything EVER if you do not know what bootloader version you have. That's like getting into your car blind folded and trusting that your GPS will drive you safely to your destination.
Every ROM has it's requirements in terms of bootloader version and recovery and they are usually clearly stated in the first couple of paragraphs in the OP of the rom thread. If not: Stay away from that rom unless you know exactly what you are doing!
TWRP 2.6.3.2 has major issues when formatting data from it. Stay away from it for now.
To find out what you can do to get a stable system back, you need to know where you are and what you have.
Boot into the bootloader (and do not use ROM Manager to do it!) and read the tiny script. It'll probably be 10.6.1.14.10 or .8
Post the result.
Boot into the recovery to check what you have installed. Versions matter!
The proper way of installing a custom recovery is in fastboot mode. Which is different from ADB, btw - you've been mixing those up I think.
Google "adb fastboot tutorial" and do some reading. Once you understand, get it set up on your PC, boot the tablet into the bootloader, connect both via original USB cable and test the connection with
Code:
fastboot devices
If it returns the serial number of your tablet, you are in business and we can continue from there.
Happy studying!

Alright, I have done some reading as far as all of this goes. I understand a lot of it better now.
So I'm positive now that it was because I hadn't updated my bootloader before trying through CWM. And TWRP obviously was no more useful.
I haven't quite checked what the bootloader version is - I think there may be something wrong with it still (given my weird boot-up) and I don't want to go there until I'm totally sure what I'm doing. I'd hate to hit bootloader and then realize something was seriously wrong, and my time was ticking.
However, I have never changed the bootloader since I used ASUS's one from their website originally - since it says v8, I imagine thats the .8 one?
Before I uninstalled ROM manager, I checked what it said my recovery was - and it said I had CWM 6.0.3.1 still, even though the TWRP fiasco has just gone down. I used ROM to reflash the same 6.0.3.1 from the device, and it said it was successful.
So before I begin, could i possibly ask a few questions?
1) Could I have corrupted the bootloader?
2) Can more than one recovery exist? Is it maybe true that CWM 6.0.3.1 would be the one I will boot into if I went into recovery? I REALLY don't want it to be TWRP again as it might not survive the experience (I had put TWRP on via fastboot). Should I just get to bootloader, flash a new recovery right away and go from there?
3) When I go to finally solve it, what are the hypothetical steps I should take? Right now, as far as I can tell, it will be:
a) Make sure all drivers are working, and files (including backup) are on my PC.
b) reboot into bootloader, check version.
c) flash the 10.6.1.14.4 bootloader
d) reboot
e) reboot into bootloader
f) flash CWM. 6.0.4.6
g) reboot
i) reboot into bootloader, into recovery, then flash CM 11 and gapps
j) reboot
Ya? No? Any help would be appreciated

1. No, your bootloader is still good because you still can boot into your system. You need your bootloader to initiate your hardware before your OS is booting.. I am very sure that is the case but it would be nice for someone to confirm it...
2. Your recovery partition is too small for two custom recoveries to exist. So it is almost impossible for you to have two recoveries..
Before you want to go further, it is easier to find out your bootloader and recovery versions so you know what is the next step that you need to do. Otherwise, it is just a guess or a shot in the dark... I think that you are fine but you need to wait for some experts to confirm it... Good luck...:fingers-crossed:
Please bear with me

Sorry hahah, I know I must seem really frustrating...
I have held off for 2 reasons:
1. The first time I did a soft reboot after my fiasco, upon boot it went through the first series of steps trying to load into the bootloader, but then booted fine. Another time a few days after, it rebooted while i was using it, and just went blank after the asus logo. Holding the power down caused it to boot fine. Still, neither of those had ever happened before, and I am pretty sure that some point along the line of bootloader-->OS something is broken. Hopefully on the OS side.
2. I am not going to attempt to boot into recovery until I know that it isn't the same TWRP 2.6.3.2 that got me into this whole fiasco. I know it sounds like a catch 22, not wanting to reboot into recovery to check what it is, but I have NO IDEA how to get out of this TWRP as it stands. I had to flash a CROMI (which failed at 87%) and hard reboot. Not willing to go out on a limb and assume that hard-reboot will work during any step of that process.
So, why do I have to check it? Can't I boot into bootloader, flash a new bootloader, flash a new recovery, and then reboot normally? Assuming I'll be able to establish fastboot (drivers still work, so fingers crossed on that one).

Can't read any Storage

Well, i tried to root my TF300t today, from 4.2.1 official ROM.
I installed TWRP 2.5.0.0 then 2.6.3.0 as well as some root files. Then i installed this rom, with the root file included as well as 2.6.3.1 TWPR.
I entered the OS, but i could not get WIFI.Then i rebooted to TWPR and since then i cannot do anything.
Firstly, TWPR asks me for some password which i have no clue what kind of pass it might be.
Then i pressed back, and i entered the TWPR menu, where i found out that i don't have access to and kind of memory.Neither internal or external SD as well as i can't log into OS.
Also, when i tried to do some wipes, i could not wipe dalvik cache.
When i go to restart to OS from TWPR, i get a message "No OS Installed! Are you sure you wish to power off?" message.
Also, i get this message: "Install SuperSU? your device does not apear to be rooted. Install SuperSU now? This will root your device"
This is doing absolutely nothing. It does not instal Root.
UPDATE: Ok.I managed to get ext SD card to be mounted. In ext sd card i have some android 4.4 (see above which version on the link) but i am unable to instal it.
Error Message : "Unable to open zip file."
When i try to instal root i get a Success Message but it keeps saying to me that no root installed.
Any idea what is wrong?
Probably the version of your bootloader does not match the version of TWRP you installed.
Can you get to the bootloader screen to check the exact version number on the top-left?

OK, that is the latest version.
Did you pick the TWRP with -42 in the name or scanno's version from the OmniROM thread?
The latter should be used for 4.4-based (kitkat) ROMs.
Neither the -ics nor the -jb versions work with your bootloader.

I used the 4.4-based TWPR.
Well, i think that the problem occured when i cleared the System Data. Now system data shows 0mb (Internal Storage (0mb) ).Also, if i try to wipe System or data or internal storage i keep geting a "failed" message.
E: Unable to wipe '/data' probably because i don't have access to it.
You need to reboot fully into android after flashing recovery. That's why twrp doesn't work and asks for password when u don't.

Try erasing most partitions via fastboot:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase data
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase misc
fastboot erase recovery
Then reflash TWRP and try again.
Somewhere in the threads is a list of all partitions you can erase, but above list should be a good start.
EDIT: Instead of flashing TWRP, you might first flash Asus ROM via fastboot and boot that.
Then reflash TWRP, wipe and flash custom ROM.

Thank you very much.
I did wipe all these couple of times. Some of them deny access or there are no data at all to delete so i get a failed message.
So, let me sum what i have to do.
1. Install Stock Asus 4.1.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893714
2.Install a new TWRP openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-tf300t-ICS.blob
3. Go in TWRP do a data wipe, cache wipe
4.Flash a new custom rom.
5. Flash latest TWRP.
Please confirm that these are the correct steps.I got chills after this adventure!Even though i am familiar with android rooting and ROM flashing, TF300t seems to be a whole new chapter.

Yeah, thanks to Asus for all those incompatible bootloader versions.
Those steps look basically right to me, just some remarks:
Pick the latest Asus ROM 10.6.1.27.5. If you don't find it in the tread, download from Asus web site.
According to your bootloade version, make sure it is the "WW" version (not "US" or "JP", etc.).
After step one, before flashing TWRP, actually boot into the Asus ROM once.
Step 5 should not be necessary, as flashing a custom ROM should leave your recovery untouched.

No OS, TWRP fails to flash .ZIPs

Hey guys,
I'm having some trouble with flashing a new ROM and now I've soft-bricked my device.
I was trying to flash from CROMi to CM11 so I wiped data, cache, dalvik using TWRP. But when i tried to flash CM11 M9, i would get the "failed" error. I tried flashing other ROMs but same result - "FAILED".
So I thought maybe it was the recovery. I downloaded a CWM recovery (in .zip) and tried to flash it. FAILED!
I tried to restore my device using the "Recover /Downgrade from Jelly Bean to ICS/Clean Factory Restore with custom recovery" method from this post. Since it is basically flashing the stock ROM, naturally it fails.
Now I'm out of ideas. How can I save my tablet?
Thanks for your help guys!
PS: I'm trying to install CMW via fastboot. When I press power + vol down, I get to the screen with "RCK, Android, Data Wipe"; I dont see the USB icon. How do i boot into fastboot?
You are in fastboot mode when you see the three icons. Read the tiny script.
Except for CM11 M9 you did not give us anything to work with.
Give us the version numbers of:
- CROMi-X you were running
- your bootloader
- your recovery
My best guess is you are trying to flash something with an incompatible recovery, but that's just a wild guess.....
And stop flashing willy nilly until you know what's going on. You can brick this tablet if you try hard enough, you know....

Hey bern,
Thanks for the reply.
My tablet got really slow so I decided to flash CM 11 M9, which is what I use on my Note 3.
I'm running TWRP 2.6.1.0. Not sure which CROMi I was running because I can't boot into Android. I did a data wipe prior to (attempting to) flashing CM11 and now it boots straight to recovery.
I read that TWRP is not compatible with CM11 and that I should flash CWM. But TWRP fails when I try to flash anything so I'm thinking I should attempt ADB sodeload or terminal command and load that way?
Thanks again
Edit: I downloaded CM11 M9 for tf700. I also tried various nightlies in case my original download was corrupt. It ends in failure

Hi berndblb!
I'm also having this problem and I see that you're quite active in the TF700 forum that you could help me out. I wouldnt say I'm an expert but I have tinkered with phones (mostly Samsung and Nexus devices) in the past so I am familiar with ADB, terminal commands, flashing ROMs, etc.
I'm running TWRP 2.6.1. I was running CROMi-X (not sure which version) and wanted to flash OmniROM. However, TWRP would show "error flashing zip" and "failed" in red. I tried flashing a few other zips including TWRP 2.7.1.1 and CWM (I readTWRP is not compatible with some ROMs) and I would still get the error and "failed".
So now, I can't boot into the OS to flash a recovery via fastboot or via CWM Rom Manager, nor can I flash anything in TWRP. I also attempted to flash TWRP 2.7.1.1 via terminal command
HTML:
dd if=/sdcard/twrp.blob of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4[HTML]. I loads but it doesnt install when i restart my device.
What do you think I should try next? I'm getting pretty desperate at this point. Is my device bricked-bricked or can i salvage it?
Thanks!

Exactly.
I also would like to know how you performed the wipe you mentioned. The tablet booting only and straight to recovery would indicate that you used 'Wipe Data' from the bootloader???
Also, do not use ROM Manager. It does not work well with the Transformers and can cause a lot of problems.
I have a feeling another user is going to benefit from your excellent unbrick guide, Josh...

Hey,
Quick rundown: Stuck in a bootloop to some sort of empty bootloader screen which has the readout:
"Start/Restart Bootloader/Recovery Mode/Power Off"
"Press volume key to select, and press power key to select"[Regarding above options]
"FastBoot Mode
PRODUCT_NAME - sdm845
VARIANT - SDM UFS
BOOTLOADER VERSION -
BASEBAND VERSION -
SERIAL NUMBER - [Gonna leave this out for now]
SECURE BOOT - yes
DEVICE STATE - unlocked" [this line is in red]
Every choice besides Power Off returns me to the same window. What can I do to recover from this?
Background:
So I was trying to update my OP6 to the current OxygenOS while keeping my root using TWRP and Magisk, which I've done in the past without any issue(i.e. go in recovery flash OS, flash current TWRP, reboot back to recovery, flash current Magisk as I understand it). However this time I was running into an issue flashing the Oxygen update getting an error that said it "failed to map file" for the zip. My first instinct was to update TWRP to see if the newest version didn't run into this issue so I flashed that followed by the current Magisk(no reboot in between). After booting back to standard operations everything seemed fine. I went back into recovery and tried the OS update again, but hit the same issue.
I couldn't find anything specific to OP6 with this issue, but similar questions with other devices suggested clearing the dalvik cache, which I tried to no useful effect. Then I came across this thread (forums.oneplus.com/threads/oxygen-os3-i-have-a-problem-please-help.440587/page-2 too new to hyperlink) and did what I think really messed me up which was boldly follow this guy's advice to do an advanced wipe of everything but internal storage(I also left USB storage intact) from TWRP. This failed to fix the issue with the file mapping error when I subsequently tried to flash the update, though I was able to flash TWRP and Magisk successfully again before rebooting and ending up in this loop.
Any assistance in fixing this or general tips on how to not be foolish when messing around with this stuff is greatly appreciated.
Update:
So I followed the advice gleaned from the resourceful person here(https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/help/bootloader-baseband-versions-blank-t3927565) to try working with the device from my computer with fastboot. At first it would recognize the device as "Android" but be unable to find a driver for it and adb/fastboot both failed to recognize it as a device. After installing MiniTool(more as a way to backup what was on the SD card) the proper device driver also got installed and I was able to access it with fastboot; I ran into similar issues as the linked thread above, solved it by switching to b(still failed) then back to a.
Currently I've got it booted into TWRP and I'm working on getting the current Oxygen .zip copied onto the phone storage but the transfer keeps failing after moving a negligible amount.
Update 2:
Via TWRP was able to sideload the current up-to-date standard OS onto it, however my Google backup seems to have decided to disappear on me and the only OP backup I have is ages old. Anyone have recommendations on data recovery tools?
next time just dont change the build.prop file.
serious, it just breaks the system.
heppened to me too.

Good to know, thanks for the info!
I assume that happened when I messed around with advanced wipe, do you know which of the folders I selected that would have been under? And just for future awareness, would that have not occurred had I just used TWRP's standard wipe instead?
You can run a program that will install 9.0.6 from scratch, running a batch file...
Save my life before yesterday....
Your device is bricked
If able to access the TWRP recovery then boot into twrp and try to get all the data stored in your computer.
Then use the Qualcomm flash tool to completely recover from your hard bricked OP6.
from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/op6-collection-unbrick-tools-t3914109
Then its easy, again unlock boot-loader flash TWRP and magisk.
