[Q] Where's the price drop? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Last year Nexus 5 was released on 10/31. With that said, the Nexus 4 had a $100 price drop during the last week of August. It's now mid-October with no price drop on Nexus 5. Anyone know why?

who said theres SUPPOSED to be a price drop? with the next nexus at nearly 6"", its clear that they are planning on selling the nexus 5 much longer. i mean its still a top caliber device, even if last years. nexus one never had a price drop. nexus s, and the galaxy nexus never did either.

Its unknown unknown00...

You haven't heard? Google tweeted that there is no new Nexus phone this year. It's been the top headline of every tech site for the past 2 days.

That's why when they release it everywhere else, I'm ordering it from Mountain View

I've bought my new N5 for just 280€ shipped from HK. (EBay)
It's absolutely the original one.
A good price, thinking than selling my old GS3 and Xperia S I've paid this phone just 20€...

Heh I just checked the Google Play Store and apparently the 16's are completely out of stock so it's possible production of the Nexus 5 has already ceased. They only need to lower the price if they have excess inventory and it appears they don't. Either they've stopped making them or they're still flying off the shelves, in either case you're not likely to see a price drop. IIRC, by this time last year the N4 was discontinued. I also wouldn't be surprised if the new Nexus also comes with a new base price i.e. a $50 increase.

Prices of used S4 falling very fast.

I've been tracking S4 prices of ripbay for a while and having been shocked to see they've fallen very quickly over the last 8 weeks. In the UK you couldn't pick up a S4 for under £350 8 weeks ago, now £310-£320 is common and I've seen phones go as low as £275.
Is this because people are trying/moving to the iphone 5 I wonder?
If sammie got their finger out and started shipping the i9506 with larger memory it could help popularity again......
Sent from my GT-P6800 using xda app-developers app
it's probably because of the note 3. also other makers too but i would think the iPhone has the least effect. no one's excited about the 5s this year like it was last year
btw i think you should look at phones more like computers where you don't need to upgrade every 2 years anymore. that's how comps were in the 90s but now ive had my laptop for 7 years before replacing it. the mobo burnt and i want to play gta5 when it comes to pc
with this phone, the only reason to upgrade is camera quality will be better in a few years
Uhh, the S4 was released end apr/may, so 8 weeks ago the phone had only been out around 2 months? Now it's been about 4-5 months.. So used phones being sold now are probably 'more used' than they were 8 weeks ago. Not surprised they're getting cheaper.
Also I'm guessing that people who wanted the s4 when it first came out more or less have gotten it by now, so less demand = lower prices.
The main factor as to why the S4 is dropping so quick is because, newer faster smartphones are about to be released such as the G2, Z1, Note 3 ect.
Plus S4 is now considered old tech in smartphone terms, hence why it's dropping in price so quickly, and it's retail price as also dropped considerably since it was released back in late April.
If you go back to the S2 days that held it price right up to the point the S3 was released, simple because at the time there was nothing out from anybody else that could touch it, I got best part of £300 for my S2 that was a year old, there is no way on earth i'll get that next year for my S4, when the time comes to getting shut for the S5.
Just way things are now with Android Smartphones.
Yeah I've seen the same as well, I'm going to try and get about £350 for it now and just wait for the nexus 5, was really disappointed by this phone

Pretty sure that brand new prices dropping equals used price dropping...

[Q] Does it too late if I buy Nexus 5 in this month ???

I see LG G3 is coming
Soon Nexus 6 is after G3 ?
(I skipped Nexus 4)
Nexus 6 will be Qtr 4, November probably. We cannot make teh decision for you. N5 is a great phone though.
If you look at it that way by the time q4 hits you might as well wait for q1 and so on..
Yeah, as @mistahseller said. New phones are constantly coming out so if you want the N5 you should just get it. You can also make the argument about the One Plus One since it's apparently a better value (without getting into all the CM details). Personally I've been getting phones when they first get released just because I am one of those people that likes having "new" devices. But at the same time I don't buy every new device that comes out.
Also, there's the rumors of android silver. So who knows what's going to happen. There might be a N6, there might not. Just like the Nexus 10 tablet, they still haven't refreshed the original.
Get it now if you really want it, Then upgrades are always possible later...
google play doesn't regularly discount phones/devices (as much/frequently as a retailer like Best Buy)
That saying, the most recent price drops:
Last time, Nexus 4 dropped by $100 in august 2013
7 days ago, the GPE Xperia Z Ultra dropped $230 to $450.
Hence, Nexus 5 will typically be $350/$400 for 16GB/32GB..... will other phones be cheaper (LG G2, HTC One 2013)?
do you want those phones?

Nexus 5 discount once Nexus 6 close?

The Nexus 4 dropped $100 new from Play store in late August 2013, 10 months after the late October 2012 formal announcement.
The Nexus 5 announced late October 2013... so it's price drop is....?
If Nexus 6 is announced 5 months from now then Nexus 5 drops to $299 for 32GB model in late August?

possibly. the gnex also dropped in price when the n4 was about to be released. but the nexus before that, didnt drop in price. so, possibly, or maybe not. but for sure no one here will be able to answer that, as only google knows.
In the playstore they dropped the price of the HTC one(last years model) and the Sony ultra z.

Reminds me of the Nexus 10 replacement, never happened on the anniversary, nor 6 months after that...
I would say though the Nexus 5 is due a price drop, it began happening with the Nexus 10, new ones comining up at about 60%-70% of the price on Play store. I've not seen that sort of price drop for Nexus 5.
Nexus line supposedly being replaced with the "silver" program. Search for it on Androidcentral.

Maybe
It may drop the price but evleaks said that there is no nexus 6, it's a rumor but we can't know about what is going to happen
If there will be a nexus 6 now we will have to go to carriers and beg them to give us a two year contract unless its T-Mobile then same ol same ol so we can get a stock android device

Tiny discount but given the uncertainty about the follow-on, I bought one.
Used "mint" ones sell for about $340, which is oddly a high % of new given they're in stock.

I always buy with a view to selling. Fewer Reds bought as its newer so ~ 1 yea from now my "mint" N5 will have fewer sellers to compete with.
My N5 $385 new 32gb goes with my N7 2013 32gb (refurbished $170) and my N10 32gb (refurbished $278).
What also made me pull the trigger is I spent a lot of time yesterday having to work stood up and moving on my N4 and just don't want a bigger than that form factor in my hand but do need fast cpu and memory, just a little taller than my N4 is all I need. These other high-spec are losing the plot on hand size. If I want a bigger screen I just bluetooth tether my N7 and use it two-handed.

[Q] What's up with the invite system, and is it going away at some point?

Why is OnePlus using this invite system? I honestly don't see the logic behind deliberately limiting the amount of people that can give OnePlus money. Also, is this invite system going eventually go away and open the phone to the public or will it forever be an invite-only phone?
Probably because the supply cannot meet its demand. So they have a invite system to cause hype, free marketing until they their supply can meet the demand. Plus at the price of $349, they aren't making much profit on the phone.
But I agree, get rid of the invite system and get the phone in people's hands before the specs become outdated to other flagship devices. They're here making customizable covers and whatnot, who cares.. just get the phone out to meet its demand.
The OPO is dead meat once the Nexus 6 comes out in 2 to 3 months.
The Nexus 6 will cost around $349, have newer next gen hardware, and come with Android 'L' out of the box. And with the Nexus 6, you will be able to actually, really purchase the phone, for real.

I doubt the OPO will be "dead meat." There is no serious next gen hardware unless it ships with Snapdragon 805.
OPO will still be a good phone regardless and its hard to pack that much in a $349 phone especially coming from a popular manufacturer such as LG/Samsung/HTC. OPO will have Android "L" regardless.
Obvious troll is obvious.

Yes. I have owned the first four Nexus phones, and all but the Nexus 4 were easy and fast to get. I got the Nexus-One the first week it came out, I got the Nexus-S at T-Mobile Best Buy the morning it was released immediately, I ordered the Galaxy Nexus online the 2nd week it was out, and got it the week after, and the Nexus 4 was a pain, was sold out the first two months, and was impossible to find, but by the third month they had better stock and I got one. I did not get the Nexus 5, because the crappy battery life, and I was pissed Google didn't keep the 3,000mAh battery from the G2 which the phone was based off.
My point being, all those Nexus phones were fast and easy to get, except the Nexus 4, but that was turned around by the third month. Where as the OnePlus One has been out for 3 months now, and still impossible to find, and the phone is still not available for purchase, you need this ridiculous "invite" which just blows my mind away any sane company would try to market a product this way. How bout make a website with a purchase button and shipping date, and let me buy it and get it 3 days later, not wait for some stupid invite, that just turns me away.
OPO really screwed up here, or purposely fooled everyone, not sure which is true ? How could they not know a phone with $700 flagship specs, but only selling for half that at $350 wouldn't be a smashing hit, and very hot seller ? They should have been more prepared, at least expecting this OPO to sell like a Nexus phone, quantity wise. I think they had 120,000 forum members at launch, that were all wiling to buy the phone, but only originally released like 5,000 phones at launch, and then like 7,000 later, and several thousand more, but WTF that's extremely low quantities, a joke actually.

I bet it does.
Everyone says this every year about the upcoming Nexus, no way it will have flagship hardware at the cheap price they sell the Nexus phones. But every year it does.
Last year everyone expected the Nexus 5 to have the Snapdragon 600, to match the then flagships; Galaxy S4 and HTC One M7, but the Nexus 5 came with the brand new next gen Snapdragon 800, besting those two flagships, and still selling for half their price.
My prediction for the Nexus 6;
- Announced in October / released in November
- Price of $400
- Snapdragon 805
- 3GB RAM
- 2600mAh - 2900mAh battery
- 5.2" to 5.5" Screen
- Maybe a 1440p screen, but most likely 1080p
- Made by either; Asus, HTC, or Sony

Are you buying the pixel 2 ?

My pixel works fine along with my Nexus 5x and 6. With the new pixel 2 around the corner are you buying it? I hate to be the stereotypical American who consumes in excess and buys things they don't need but I know ill resist for a month or 2 then cave in.

I'm getting sucked into reading the stories about the pixel 2. If I was practical, it would be hard to justify a new phone. What new features do I need that won't come from a software update? I do wish I had 64 gigs. Recently had to factory reset and that got me back down to 26 gigs used.

Of course I'm going to get it. However, there are a bunch of caveats and prerequisites in order to justify the purchase. And naturally a few different scenarios. Gift the Pixel to a family member that has a crappy S5 or any other Samsung device, sell it on Swappa, use it as a backup device in case something goes wrong with the Pixel 2 and you need to wait for a replacement, stuff like that. Personally, I'm in for the gifting and then it's justified right off the bat even though I still have a year left to pay it off. But the family member is on my VZW account so nothing it really changed in that regard. (wow, that S5 is a piece of junk, Yes, that's for all you Sammy trolls)
Then there's the price. I only paid $240 for the Pixel in the wee hours of Black Friday. I had a chance to depixel8 the device but chose not to. I had no intention of ever unlocking the bootloader or rooting so I just took the updates. I'd do the same thing here if the price were the same. Google never had a black Friday deal and I could not justify paying 7 bills since my 5x was working perfectly and still does. (running Android O beta, locked bootloader on that too) Bottom line for me is never buy it on any other day than BF and get the best price possible, locked or not. I fully expect VZW to keep the bl locked and I don't care if I can get the phone for $300 or close to it. I won't spend a nickel over $400 tax included. Since the Pixel and the XL are working so well and a lot of people are on a 2 year installment plan of sorts, I believe they will have some discounts on it during the holiday season. Just keep your eyes peeled since the deals are strictly for black Friday hours only. Come Saturday the deals are off the table.
PS I should save this post to remind myself of rational thought when the device is released.
I'm considering upgrading to a larger screen but I just switched to t-mobile and sadly Google only offers the Pixels to Verizon for resale. So unless I can get one on device payments I'll probably stick with my Pixel.
I can understand buying the Pixel over the Nexus. The Nexus always had that element that caused it to get laggy over time and stutter, but the Pixel is a massive step from the previous nexus 5x I had. All my phone are in working condition and i actually offered to loan someone whose phone stopped working my Nexus 5X.
The Pixel though hasent given me any issues. I think at the very least I'll wait until next year to buy it. It seems like the first batch of phones tend to have issues. I remember the first Pixels has that crackling speaker issue, but since this one actually works well I'll have to think about it myself. If I do maybe not until 2018
They are going to have to really nail it to get me to upgrade right away. This is a great phone.
Not sure yet, nothing wrong with this one, might wait for the pixel 3, this is just a great phone

I'd also expect the Verizon Pixel 2 to have deals during Black Friday. There are typically also good offers on carrier phones at times during November and December. I could have saved a bit by waiting longer to buy. I think the best offer in 2016 only lasted a few days.
https://slickdeals.net/f/9417827-be...-e-gift-card?src=SiteSearchV2_SearchBarV2Algo
Many of the Verizon offers have generally trended towards bill credits recently, where you have to buy their service for two years to get the price reduction, yet the Verizon S8 had a Device Payment Plan offer last month where the financed price was reported as $300+ less than retail.

No
Probably will wait until the 3, because my 1 is still in great shape
So got to add BT headphones to the mix too. Been wanting a pair anyway, this will probably force my hand. I have Grado now and they are amazing. I don't think they make BT yet so does anyone have some that are in the 100-200 range that are just killer?
I personally don't use bluetooth. Based on the renderings, I think I'll definitely wait at least for a bit. If it turns out to be just the Pixel with a few enhancements then it will be easier to pass. I was hoping for front facing speakers, but dosent seem to be happening. Also they are removing the headphone jack which I like. Something minor but should start being standard.....waterproofing, hopefully this new one is officially water resistant/proof.
It looks like they will have several versions or atleast 2 which is good. Everthing now seems to be 5.5"+, I cannot do these jumbo sized phones, I'm probably the only one, but I don't like excessively large phones. Hence why I got the small pixel.
Pixel 2 will be 5". As for BT I'd like to get rid of the cord if fidelity is as good. Waterproofing is not minor! Lol. That's almost a prerequisite at this point.

I'll have to probably update this post. If Google follows the Note 8 and prices the Pixel 2 at $900+, then that's a definite "no" for getting it. Beyond unacceptable. I'll keep the phones I have or switch to a GSM carrier and buy a One Plus.
When you throw in taxes and optional insurance, you are looking at a total over $1000
imma skip to the pixel 3. it's not worth it considering how good the pixel/pixel xl are to date
