Besides the fruitless erasing, why do you want to sideload everything and then again do it in recovery??

Apart from the erase and sideload then recovery flash stuff, I don't understand this part:
<flash recovery>
device:
go to recovery
Shouldn't he just do a fastboot reboot-recovery and flash the stuff there? Or its better for some reason to boot into it from the device? I mean I remember when 4.4. went out some people said you just couldn't flash all the stuff without booting at least once because there was some script that the stock recovery had to execute first.. this got fixed already?

Never heard about this before. I've seen many guys over here who have directly flashed as soon as they got their hands on this device.

I remember Artem from AndroidPolice had such problem. Ill try to find the post.
There is sometimes a /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
This is sometimes used in rooted stock ROMs to provide root too.
When you unlock the bootloader, you should reboot bootloader before flashing anything.

I would do it all just to make sure you are back to complete stock since you mentioned you rooted the device also.
Follow the instructions in the first post of this thread and since you plan to RMA the phone be sure to check the tamper flag and follow the steps outlined to reset it if necessary... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47156064

. If the tamper flag value is "true", then you'll have to reset it. The following steps will reset this flag, and lock your bootloader.
•So, first, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2239421 (Thanks @osm0sis for the wonderful script)
Under "Flashable Zips", you will find the Nexus BootUnlocker script. Download it.
•Put the zip on your internal storage.
•Download the latest TWRP recovery image for the Nexus 5 from here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hammerhead. Rename it to TWRP.img.
Now boot it. You do this by booting your phone in fastboot, and typing the following command:
Code:
fastboot boot path/to/TWRP.img
TWRP recovery should boot.
•Flash the zip in TWRP, then reboot.
Now your bootloader should be locked, and your tamper flag should show "false".
So i have to do this before i flash the stock recovery, since it needs TWRP, am i right?
And else it says that this will lock the bootloader, will i be able to execute the previous commands(flashing recovery and stuff) with a locked bootloader?

No, flash everything back to stock then deal with the tamper flag reset.
Once everything is back to stock but the bootloader is still unlocked, boot into the recovery...
fastboot boot nameofrecovery.img
Then flash the tamper flag script.

Sorry man but i'm not getting something here.
If i flash everything first, even the recovery will be stock, so i have to flash twrp once again to flash the tamper flag script. So i end up with twrp recovery and the tamper flag reset, while it should be stock recovery and tamper flag reset.
What i'm i missing here?

I've been using Cromi-X 4.7 since Mid to Late summer for my daily and have had zero issues. Last night however, my TF300 chirped to let me know I had an email, I turned the screen on and then it began bootlooping. I do have access to Recovery, and I've tried wiping and flashing a few other ROMs that I had on my SD card, but they all make it as far as the splash screen then freeze and reboot. So I'm a little confused as to where to go from here.
Recovery: TWRP v2.5.0.0
ww_epad-10.6.1.27.1-20130711
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If you can use recovery, I suppose you can use fastboot too?
Try the following:
fastboot erase misc
fastboot erase staging
fastboot reboot
If that won't work, look for Buster99's script to erase everything and reflash stock Asus ROM. Fixed issues for a lot of people allowing you a fresh start.

Thankyou! I had to re-educate myself on Fastboot but once that was done I was able to try your suggestions. Your first one did not do the trick, but Buster99's got me most of the way. I had to reflash the TWRP near the end of his process to get it to work for me.
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase misc
fastboot erase cache
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery C:\Users\Jeff\Downloads\twrp-2.5.0.0-JB.blob (THIS IS THE LINE I ADDED)
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system C:\Users\Jeff\Documents\WW_epad-user-10.6.1.15.3\blob
fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot
So maybe my recovery was messed up? At anyrate, it looks like I'm back in action. For anyone who needs to follow how all this was done, there is a good fastboot tutorial here. and here is the link to Buster99's solution.
Thankyou for pointing me in the right direction f69m!

Oops, careful!
You are using the wrong recovery.
For the bootloaders coming with 10.6.* ROMs you need to use TWRP -42.
Don't use -jb, that is for the older 10.4.* bootloaders.

That would explain why I had to reinstall an updated TWRP to access recovery. I know just enough to make my self dangerous
Thank you again.
I have anexus 5 that is stuch on the google logo or is stuck in a boot lopp than it gets frozen and when plugegd in the battery logo turns on. I can go into recovery (twrp), but everything on my phone ghas been erased so theres nothing to flash. I tried to use a Nexus 5 toolkit to stock flash but it always comes up with an error. When i try something on twrp it says unable to mount....and give like 5-6 different thinbgs that it cant mount to. Everytime i try to flaash a new bootloader or something from that toolkit the phone turns off and goes into the battery logo. When i use twrp and try to do anything the phone just restarts into recovery. Is there any way i could push factory images to the phone or something else.
BTW, i dont know mucgh in terms of doing stuff with adb and terminal and all that so please be simplistic with the answers. Thanks in advance,.

Go to twrp and factory reset it and see if it works..
Write failure means that the eMMC might have died which can only be solved by replacing the mobo.

fastboot flash boot C:/image-hammerhead-krt16m/boot.img
fastboot flash recovery C:/image-hammerhead-krt16m/recovery.img
fastboot erase cache
Now, i can flash the boot.img, the system.img, the radio, but it hangs up on some of the other ones and it says "erasing..." than i have to stop it casue it doesnt work. Also, when i go into recovery it shows a spinning android logo.
Edit: Ive gotten all the way to "fastboot flash system system.img", but it gets stuck on my phone and says "erasing..."

You're not letting it finish. That's why you're having problems. It can take a long time. It also wouldn't hurt to use the flash-all.bat script instead of flashing each individually.
I posted this on reddit...but didn't get much help...i hope the geniuses at xda can help me
As the title says, the camera app (any camera app) won't work because as you start any of them, it asks to insert the sd card, but this is a 2013 Nexus 5...so it doesn't have an sd card.
I've done a fair amount of research and the only thing that seems to be mentioned is factory reset. I've done that...both through the settings and twrp. The phone has a stock marshmallow rom.
I tried to download any other file and it won't let me download anything becauase the "sd card" is not available. So it's as if the internal sd card isn't mounted? how do I fix this? I don't have a computer nearby to do anything with adb...any help would be GREATLY appreciated...
The amount of storage according to the settings is correct (3gb used of 12 gb..16gb nexus 5)...all app permissions are correct. I've reflashed two different stock firmwares with the exact same result.
Try this:
boot into fastboot;
run this fastboot command: fastboot erase recovery (to erase existing recovery);
run this fastboot command: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (to flash stock recovery from stock ROM)
run this fastboot command: fastboot erase userdata;
run this fastboot command to flash the usedata img from the stock ROM: fastboot flash userdata userdata.img;
boot into stock recovery and perform a factory wipe/reset and wipe cache;
reboot.

I'll try that tonight or tomorrow morning. Where do you suggest I download recovery.img (the stock recovery)?
Thanks for the help one way or another.. Hehe

I assume the phone has an unlocked bootloader since you were able to flash stock ROMs.

Thanks! I used the factory images and flashed everything from the compressed archive and it worked..you're a lifesaver. I guess I had to go further and reset everything..but thanks again!
Although my Nexus 5 is rooted with the toolkit I haven't done anything to it in months (no custom roms or anything)
My phone was working last night but when I woke up and it was in a bootloop.
so i tried fixing the problem myself, here are the things I tried:
- Hitting it (in case the buttons were sticky)
- Flash stock + unroot on the n5 toolkit
- Bootloader>Recovery>Wipe Data/Factory Reset
After that, the boot loop stopped and whenever I try turning it on it goes straight to the bootloader.
So I tried going into the wugfresh advanced utilities and i tried:
- Fastboot Erase*
- Fastboot format*
*flash stock + unroot after both
I have a little bit of hope because I can access the bootloader but I have no idea what else I can try.
Any suggestions?
thank you in advance
Does the bootloader remain unlocked?
Try manually flashing the latest marshmallow. After flashing, boot back into fastboot and run these commands:
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img (the userdata.img file can be extracted from the stock ROM for flashing in fastboot)
After running the 2 commands, boot back into recovery and perform a full wipe of data and cache, then reboot.
