You're probably playing with power saver on. During gaming, try switching off the power saver as it restricts the CPU. Either way, there are no lag/stuttering problems anywhere in the phone. I've myself played these games, and no such problems. Try resetting the phone if it persists.

It generally isn't a hardware problem, it can be due to a rogue app you might have installed. Resetting takes it back to factory, and you can figure out what the problem is. Install apps only from commendable sources, as they may cause problems.

I did a factory reset and installed only piano tiles .. still there was lag and it seemed like playing on a low end phone (not graphics but performance)

I play piano times very regularly and I can assure you there is no lag. Even on games like Asphalt 8 and FIFA 15 I have no lag. Do recheck your phone or contact the service center!

I have an Asus TF700 android tablet running Jelly Bean 4.1.1.
When I play games, use apps or just use the tablet even in the play store, the screen will occasionally flicker (i.e. a small part of the screen in the game/app will slightly move and "flicker").
I'm using the "stretch to fill screen" setting. I tried the other setting to no avail.
I took the tablet to the lab and was told that this is a software related issue.
Any help/ideas would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance,

I have this when I'm reading PDFs in Repligo or Mantano -- doesn't matter in which program. Might be a driver issue. Haven't noticed it in the games we play on the 700, but then I do not game all that much and my 4-year-old son will probably totally miss out on the glitch.
I am not sure if this is related, but have you guys tried this: Setting -> ASUS customized Setting -> uncheck Enable smart backlight adjuster?

I don't know, I am just throwing out suggestions. On the tf700, there is this feature called "Smart dimmer", which acts like a second auto-brightness , changing the screen brightness based on the content of the page being display and causes the screen to flicker a lot. Can't hurt to give it a try.
Thanks for the suggestion but I already tried that before I took the tablet to the lab and it didn't help.
Well, anything automatic causes bugs. That's a given. So it could indeed be the light adjusters.
Also, are you running in performance or balanced mode whilst playing those games? Try changing it to the other, some games have problems with performance mode.
Another option is a factory reset.

Thanks for the suggestions. Right now it's running on balanced mode.
I did a factory reset and it's better than before but it still happens from time to time.

With all due respect, no. I think that would do more harm than good. I'd rather have battery left. Reference, for example: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/28977-disable-hardware-overlays/ -- from which I will quote directly:
"Without a hardware overlay every application that is displaying things on the screen will share video memory and will have to constantly check for collision and clipping to render a proper image, this can cost a lot of processing power. With a hardware overlay each application gets its own portion of video memory, getting rid of the need to check for collision and clipping. Basically, using hardware overlays can reduce CPU usage by quite a bit, so I would leave it enabled."
and
"Disable it and the latency period for applications and the OS (any OS, not just Android) itself to render things will go way way up because it has to check to make sure it's not screwing with memory that is supposed to be dedicated to another task than its own. Hardware overlay ensures everyone has their own partition of memory so they don't have to do those checks and so latency to render things on the screen decreases dramatically."
From that, your suggestion doesn't seem like a good idea to me. But that's just me.

I've tried all your ideas before -- I have noticed it on every ROM I've tried so far, although it's the least noticeable on stock, and then CleanROM. It was prominent on BlackBean, but that was an early version (although I believe it remains one of the less mature ROM -- correct me if I'm wrong).

You're right in suggesting to disable it, and that's one of the first things I do when on a stock(-based) ROM. Therefore, unlikely to be the issue here.
Thanks for thinking along, everybody! Maybe it is just a driver thingy, or an API?
This is a well-known JellyBean-specific issue. So far, there is nothing that can be done to fix it (unless the latest OTA update addresses it)...

It is definitely fixed my problem with flickering in ScummVM (part of the screen was slightly moving). Can't see any negative effect till now. I think i'll stay with it as current solution.
Well here's my two cents to this: I've found that my screen mostly flickers when I'm playing music through my headphones in particular through Spotify. I've rechecked a couple of times and definitely noticed no flicker over a reasonable period while my tablet is silent and spotify is off.
Ive noticed when i dont use my tablet i dont get the flicker OR the black line at all!!!
/sarcasm
Yeah.... the things we put up with......
I thought I was the only one with flickering game problems but I see a few people have it too lol well that puts me at ease. But any fix for this?

It's a nvidia driver issue so unless they update the graphics drivers it's unlikely you will see a fix. Some have it worse than others it would seem. I rarely see any lines or flashes. Make sure you turn smart dimmer off as well in the ASUS Customised settings.

Is "Force GPU rendering" selected down in: settings/Developer options/Force GPU rendering/ selected?
This might help some with any game that's compatible with the setting.

I am also facing the same issue. The home screen turns totally black after some gaming or sometimes after some apps. Don't know what to do or how to solve the problem. Also can not open the service menu by *#*#636#*#* code, it does not work. When I put the code, just nothing happens, the dial pad remains same. What about your device?
Waiting for next update, hope they fix this graphics issues ASAP.

Actually what does this service code do, sry i have no idea. But i tried this code i am not getting anything... And regarding graphic issue, i could able to fix only after restarting... Also sometimes i tried fixing by quiting the game and wait sometimes and then use homescreen menus. But the latter is not working all times...

Sorry that was typing mistake. I enter the code *#*#4636#*#* but nothing happens. Any suggestions? Actually no codes work on my device. I am really worried about that.
This is weird, I have no clue what could cause this. I am not so experienced on this phone as well.
As the title says, all of a sudden, all of my games started lagging terribly when in forced 90hz mode (through adb/auto90 app/joneplus tools, all the same), cranking back to auto 90hz or 60hz mode, everything works normally but it's capped at 60fps, none of the games use 90hz on auto mode if I don't force it.
I used it for half a year on forced 90hz mode in games and it worked flawlessly with not a single fps drop until now. I tried factory reseting, going to beta, going back to pie, even OP tech support did their way of clean wiping the phone and the problem persists and im clueless on what to do.
I found a little trick where if I set the game to auto90 then quickly switch to joneplustools, set to forced 90hz then quickly switch back to game, the game works without stutters, once in 5 times, and then it goes back to stuttering as soon as I exit the game and come back to it, even if I don't close it entirely, or if I turn off the screen.
Anyone has any idea why this is happening and how to fix it?
This is normal. When Vsync is on this happens. If you disable Vsync you will get tearing. So just stick with 90auto. Only game developers can enable 90hz.

You dont get it. Its stuttering because game is not able to reach 90FPS

No, you don't get it, game WAS working for months perfectly fine, and even now it still does reach 90fps with my little quick switch trick, but it's annoying to do every time I enter the game.

All games have the same problem, which means it's not game related, for example Wind Runner, Brawl Stars, Alto's Odyssey, pretty much all games I tried, and BS and Alto are even known to support it in auto mode too but for me it doesn't work.
Not sure if I'm the only one but I always face audio latency issues while gaming with my Bose AE2 SoundLink. Unfortunately I don't have other Bluetooth devices to test it but it works with all my wired headsets.
Only via gaming I face 1-2s latency. I searched the Internet and found solutions like locking the refresh rate but this doesn't work. It's the same for all games, I already tried repairing the headset, tried all modes (x mode) and different settings but it's always the same for every game. As soon as I switch from a normal app to a game the audio lags - everything else (calls, YouTube, etc etc) works fine.
Has someone else the same issue and got it fixed?
Asus 5 ultimate,
Latest firmware as of now (.86)
Rooted
I haven't tried connecting to my speakers, but i'll give it a try and see if I get similar results.
In the meantime, are all of your games running on a profile? What are your settings? I'll go through with all the same stuff.
Things are a little behind on my end. Note 20 Ultra screen decided to start peeling off, so i've been trying to move over everything for a trade-in before it ends up cracked.
It's normal for latency to be higher when gaming, though 1-2 seconds is definitely way too much. It's usually a difference of 0.5 seconds at most
Sorry for my late reply - I was really busy the last weeks.
I had the chance to try it with different devices and it's the same for all of them. I notice it a bit more for some games and a bit less for others. For example Grimvalor has a huge delay that can be noticed really easily because it makes a sound when you slash your sword -> sound starts after the animation is done.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.direlight.grimvalor
I doubt this is a hardware issue since everything works when I don't play games but other media. However I have no idea what the technical differences between games and videos are in the Android world.
Things I tried so far (unsuccessfully) :
factory reset
remove the game from Armory Crate
change refresh rate as well as other settings
try different games
Everything works with a wired Headset or with my old phone.
Not sure if the support can do something but I'm surprised that I'm the only one with this issue.

I've tried it with and without a profile - that doesn't make any difference.
What settings do you require exactly, I could export a game profile if that helps?
I completely forgot about testing. If none of the settings seem to have any impact, i'll try the defaults. If I can't get the same results, then ill see about trying to find any that cause it.
...oh, it's definitely off. I connected a Wonderboom and launched Nier and pressing the buttons had just enough delay to notice it was out of sync.
Thank you - so I guess it's not just mine.
Not sure if contacting the support will solve the issue. I wonder if all others don't have this issue, don't care about it or better Bluetooth devices.
@reica since you don't seem to face this: could you tell me what device you have or did you change Bluetooth related settings?
I had been experiencing the phone for the past 1 year and my only and haven't-yet solved problem is i am still having about 80+gb as many of a free space ROM, everytime i tried downloading more and more games, its performance drastically getting dropped. For example.. i was downloading Clash Royale, they are in total of 980Mb and at this state my file sizes are totally about 29gb, i left the game closed. After a while, i got back playing CODM, this time i sensed a noticably touch latency/delay the moment i swiped its screen at the same time i can heard a reduced game volume with also bad quality of audio. I quickly went out to delete Clash Royale as quick as possible and then everything back into normal, a hardly noticable touch latency and a louder game volume back into normal. I wonder if u guys had also experienced the same issues please let me know how deal with this

Ever noticed how sluggish a hdd gets once (nearly..) filled?
The less space for files, the more sluggish stuff becomes. I figured out a few years back never to use more than 75% of official capacity of disk, for smooth experience.
But low quality sounds and delays mean you may be loading the game from online as opposed to your fone?

Yeah and in my case i only used up to 29gb out of 128gb and it left my CODM unplayable game
In other words, try using less than 75% of user space, no more, test n see?
Other option, is to confirm if the fone is actually making you play ONLINE from the game SCOURCE, itself, actually on it's server, rather than the game on your hdd/ sd.
For this, I would take out sim for a moment, connect to wifi, play game. Wifi router will show the traffic if you got a good router. If it's online, bet your ass it's the downloading game files 'live' causing the lag/latency issues, not to mention the sub standard audio, standard practice for one serving games to lots of people with not much 'data allowance' -so the first thing gaming companies do is lower the bitrate of audio and visual, not usually noticed in game images, but defo noticed in sound quality...

Yeah, noted, dont stay online too long, mistakes get made, I hear ya, I did read it, but got confused, I got a backpain reaching into the brain to the back of the eyes, not good, but I keep going...
Forget the space part, I did see that, so mentioned your probably playing software based on the game server as opposed to the software you installed on your fone, I've seen apps do that, if your offline, the software performs better, online, worse, try playing offline for a sec if possible?
