Color Control, where'd you go? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The stock ROM used to have color control, allowing you to change hue, saturation....etc.
CM has removed this feature around a month ago. No custom ROMs or kernels have any color control beyond basic RGB sliders.
Does anyone know how to add this feature back in? Is there an apk or something that we can flash to get color control back?
I've been scouring threads for a few weeks off and on, and haven't found a solution. Does anyone have any suggestions/solutions?

I read that this feature was removed on 38R. One reason why I am still on the fence of updating from 33R.

I saw this issue, but i feel the screen is greatly calibrated! Even the yellow banding I had on the bottom of the screen is barely noticeable

Yellow banding still very noticeable on my device. As are the washed out colors. Not sure why they decided to remove this feature.

Did you turn on the screen enhancement in settings/display?

Yes, I see the color enhancements checkbox. Doesn't look like it changes too much. Just really miss getting to tweak color, saturation, hue...etc with the "color control" app that was built in.

I've tried reaching out to different CM members, Steve Kondik etc....but have gotten no answers.
It is a bit frustrating. Supposedly they are going to re-implement "color control" in a future update. For the time being though, we have no options.

[REQ] Voodoo Color Install Tutorial

I want to try the Xtreme kernel, but I refuse to go back to non-Voodoo and the blue tint/fuzzy text of the Epic display. I realize there may be future kernels that I want to try that also do not have the Voodoo Color fix and I don't want to bother devs with my personal requests.
How hard is it to add the Voodoo Color patch to a kernel? I have basically no coding experience with Linux but I would be willing to learn a little if it is doable for a noob like me (I taught myself some PHP, MySQL and Apache so I'm not completely hopeless with computer languages).
If this is an unrealistic goal please let me know. Otherwise if anyone could help or point me in the right direct it is much appreciated! Thanks
hey i was just wondering what your voodoo settings are, cause when applied i thought that it only worked when you had brightness at 100%, so is yours at 100% all the time?
I believe that was for an older version of Voodoo. The latest should work at any setting.

The patch is super simple to apply. However, Devin is a good friend of mine, and right now I think the only thing XTreme has on MixUp is 1.6Ghz OC and I already have that in my tree. I also have some VooDoo Sound goodies, and a few other tweaks/fixes. I should be releasing tomorrow, if you can hold out. If not, just use XTreme. It's a good kernel.
Thanks gd! I've always been a fan of your work. Good to know you are releasing an update soon.
That definitely solves my short-term problem. But as long as I have this thread, I would still like some help on how to apply Voodoo to a kernel. There may be some super-awesome kernel that comes out in a week that doesn't have Voodoo, and I'd really like to be ready
I have tried a few kernels and I have never seen any blue fuzzy text....what is that you guys talk about?

They really need to take real screenshots, not simulations.
The only thing I've really seen is that text does seem a bit oversharpened, but I haven't seen any of the other problems (at least not to the extent they claim)

Well, it won't show in screenshots, because then it'd take on the tint of whatever screen you view it on.
You don't notice the blue unless your used to a properly calibrated screen. If you have access to one, hold your phone up next to it with both on a totally white screen. It's VERY obvious. Also, youre really unlikely to see the text issues until you see how it should look, then its clear.
The problem with screenshots is that they don't reproduce the same colors as your screen. A photo suffers the same problem, as the camera's CCD doesn't genuinely reproduce the colos you see either.
Until display technology improves a bit simulated screens are the best way to explain the effect - the intention was likely never meant to be "looks exactly like this".
My screen has a noticable blue tint (to me at least), but nowhere near the exaggerated screeshots on the voodoo page.
Voodoo should be easy to roll into a flashable patch.. when I have some free time I'll dig at it unless someone else has done so already.
[Edit] Also worth noting, if you're viewing those simulations on your epic, the blue you see might be oversaturated
Looking again at the voodoo page, there is already an udpate.zip flashable, has anyone tried this?

That won't work.. The changes are in the display drivers in the kernel. Not even a module..
It takes a whole kernel build with the drivers integrated, and only Epic kernels work for the Epic of course. Not other SGS kernels even.

Never tried it. It's probably a bad idea, because if something goes wrong with the module you have no video. And, it'd still take changes in all the kernels to make it usable with all of them. Still, I like the idea.

I don't see it on my phone. It's not as white as my LCD screen, but my phone's screen isn't blue. So I agree..go without it.
If you set 7 smartphones next to each other, you'd probably have 7 different hues of white. Just a thought. I'll admit I got lucky with my Epic cause I don't have the blue tint. I compared mine with a Vibrant and its amazing how different of hue it is. I bet this post is super confusing, I'll stop now

motorola has a broad spectrum of colors on their LED notifications. i loved LightFlow on my atrix/atrix2. every notification had a different color
Yeah it seems Sammy has moved away from this lil feature. Its not there on the SR or the Infuse last I checked.
I actually went away from NO-LED. Works great but I hated having to click the home button and than swiping the screen.
On my original GS I used some custom ROM's and most of them included the ability light up the buttons on the bottom of the phone if there was a notification. I am not interested in using custom ROM's on this phone but I wonder if there is a way to do the same on a stock ROM?

Doubt it, would be nice though. I miss having a notification indicator.
I use blinky for notifications. It's not an LED light but lights up the capacitive buttons when I have something waiting.
I'm on a stock rom, but rooted and run da_G kernel. I don't know if it'd work without the custom kernel.

From what I understand it won't work without a kernel that supports it. So I also rooted and installed da_G's kernel. Than installed BLN from the market. Loving my notifications lights.

Amoled Screen Tuning

I have had amoled screen phones in the past, and screen tuning apps (VooDoo) can make it noticeably better, and fit each persons preference.
i Was wondering if it will be possible with the One S? , since the only phones i have seen amoled screen tuning apps on where Samsung phones
Would be pretty cool, all i know is that it will need a custom kernel to be enabled
Bump. Now that custom kernel are on the horizon.
blacks and grey have a reddish tint when the brightness is on the lowest. voodoo cam fix that.
would love to see this on HOS as well!

DPI change on Jellybean?

I sucessfully installed jellybean but I can't seem to change the lcd density..
I have in my build.prop ro.sf.lcd_density=160 and nothing happens.. I still have it set to the original, 240.
I noticed theres a new options in jellybean's build.prop ro.sf.override_null_lcd_density=1, I commented this out and also set it to 0, but still no go.
Any ideas? I've tried various apps and they all have no effect
uh, I may be wrong, but how is you changing a setting going to have a physical change on the hardware that's in your tablet?

It's NOT a physical change - Changing the LCD DPI Density has been a method used on most versions of Android for years. What rock have YOU been under?
Yep. Same here. Can't find a way to get 160 back to life.
This is pretty much a worst thing Asus could do to us. Or is it JB thing?
Don't know, but i'll try to find a solution to this as i just can't look at 240 density after using 160 for so long.
Oversized icons are really not nice :cyclops:
Hmm this might have something to do with my sensitivity issues too. Before in a certain game I could rapidly tap a button and it would go through. Now on JB it's not registering my rapid taps and I have to tap slower. Looking all over the place for a solution!

I'm on CM 10(JB 4.1.1.) and DPI change works through the build.prop without any problems. I wonder if Asus did something to block this in latest update..
Could it be related to the kernel not supporting it?
I mean, they probably changed kernel, so maybe they didn't include this in the final release.
Why is beyond me and my understanding of their logic.
I hope this is not the case.
hm.. this is hard to get used to 240 again. i hope theres a way around this

Could you please explain me-a-noob, what's so shocking about the different DPI? I thought the DPI by default remained "at its best setting". Apparently it is not...
Why would ASUS set the DPI in a way, which would not use the full potential of the screen?

It tricks Android into making each pixel smaller. Which means all your icons, text, etc shrink on the screen. This gives you more room on your screen and makes mostly everything look a hell of a lot better. If you do a search for DPI on the general forum, you will find a thread about DPI with screen shots that show you the difference.

Why not just try out a custom Rom? At the Moment Baked BlackBean 4 and unofficial CM10 10/1 versions work very well and give you all kinds of settings and tweaks to work with as well as theme chooser. The only thing that isn't working (well or at all) is GPS and I expect that will be fixed in short order, now that the official TF700 JB update is out.

Don't get me wrong, I used CM9 on my TF101 and use it on my phone, BUT I like a stable ROM with barely any noticable issues as I really do use just about everything on my devices, including the GPS. For now, until the custom roms make a bit more headway, I'm not going to switch.
Any luck?
Bump on this topic, no go on lcd mods in build.prop
REALLY would like to go back to 160...i may downgrade if there is no workaround...
I can also confirm lcd changer apps dont work either, got soft brick with one and the others didnt change anything
Agreed, any news?
Has anyone contacted Asus about it and asked?
Or, has anyone tested DPI changes on other Jelly Bean devices such as the Nexus 7 and seen if it works there (which would indicate Asus intentionally disabled it)?

Two biggest things I feel like is the bluetooth and camera in call, neither of which really bother me, I just want the kernel source so I have something new to play with lol, although I doubt much has really changed.
it also changed the way the notifications works in the pull down.
when have a notification that can be expanded, it now has the easy AOSP style two finger pull pull down rather than what Samsung has going on now with the horrible pinch to zoom.

I know right? On my thunderbolt all I had to do was crack open an apk, switch the icons, bam done, and I made said icons with photoshop in no time. And if it was odexed, add maybe 5-10 depending on if everything works the first time lol
On a backend level, I really wish samsung would've cleaned up their kernel source some, there are warnings EV VER RE WHERE lol, the thunderbolt source wasn't near as bad. I'm not sure how the real kernel devs went about compiling theres, but I had to make a few changes to a few source files just to get it to compile. Thankfully there are people must smarter than me that had the same issues and found the simple fixes, all which would've taken weeks for me to trace.
I loved the green gray and blue colors from stock Touchwiz when I first got this phone but now I loathe them. As far as 4.1.2 goes, nothing too special it seems like, besides for maybe the bluetooth improvements.

the version of 4.1.2 I have also adds the Best Face feature to the camera (didn't see that listed in the updates specific to this phone, or I may be running some oddball version), either way it wasn't there in the stock 4.1.1 for me.
I do have an odd issue since going to 4.1.2, If I have my phone in my pocket and receive a phone call, I pull the phone out of my pocket accidentally touching the screen, I can not then slide to answer the phone call. I messed around and found a setting to answer calls by pressing home button, so I have got around it for now.
However I have played around more and discovered if at any point in time I keep a few fingers on the screen at once for a few seconds it seems to disable touch input all together and I have to lock the phone then unlock to get it back.... didn't seem to happen on 4.1.1 for me. Hasn;t caught me too many times but every once in a while it bugs the hell out of me.
Any chance the new update has the ability to change the APN or is it still locked down?
Thanks friends. I was going to flash the newest rpm and modem, do you guys see any improvements in signal strength?
