I want to try the Xtreme kernel, but I refuse to go back to non-Voodoo and the blue tint/fuzzy text of the Epic display. I realize there may be future kernels that I want to try that also do not have the Voodoo Color fix and I don't want to bother devs with my personal requests.
How hard is it to add the Voodoo Color patch to a kernel? I have basically no coding experience with Linux but I would be willing to learn a little if it is doable for a noob like me (I taught myself some PHP, MySQL and Apache so I'm not completely hopeless with computer languages).
If this is an unrealistic goal please let me know. Otherwise if anyone could help or point me in the right direct it is much appreciated! Thanks
hey i was just wondering what your voodoo settings are, cause when applied i thought that it only worked when you had brightness at 100%, so is yours at 100% all the time?
I believe that was for an older version of Voodoo. The latest should work at any setting.

The patch is super simple to apply. However, Devin is a good friend of mine, and right now I think the only thing XTreme has on MixUp is 1.6Ghz OC and I already have that in my tree. I also have some VooDoo Sound goodies, and a few other tweaks/fixes. I should be releasing tomorrow, if you can hold out. If not, just use XTreme. It's a good kernel.
Thanks gd! I've always been a fan of your work. Good to know you are releasing an update soon.
That definitely solves my short-term problem. But as long as I have this thread, I would still like some help on how to apply Voodoo to a kernel. There may be some super-awesome kernel that comes out in a week that doesn't have Voodoo, and I'd really like to be ready
I have tried a few kernels and I have never seen any blue fuzzy text....what is that you guys talk about?

They really need to take real screenshots, not simulations.
The only thing I've really seen is that text does seem a bit oversharpened, but I haven't seen any of the other problems (at least not to the extent they claim)

Well, it won't show in screenshots, because then it'd take on the tint of whatever screen you view it on.
You don't notice the blue unless your used to a properly calibrated screen. If you have access to one, hold your phone up next to it with both on a totally white screen. It's VERY obvious. Also, youre really unlikely to see the text issues until you see how it should look, then its clear.
The problem with screenshots is that they don't reproduce the same colors as your screen. A photo suffers the same problem, as the camera's CCD doesn't genuinely reproduce the colos you see either.
Until display technology improves a bit simulated screens are the best way to explain the effect - the intention was likely never meant to be "looks exactly like this".
My screen has a noticable blue tint (to me at least), but nowhere near the exaggerated screeshots on the voodoo page.
Voodoo should be easy to roll into a flashable patch.. when I have some free time I'll dig at it unless someone else has done so already.
[Edit] Also worth noting, if you're viewing those simulations on your epic, the blue you see might be oversaturated
Looking again at the voodoo page, there is already an udpate.zip flashable, has anyone tried this?

That won't work.. The changes are in the display drivers in the kernel. Not even a module..
It takes a whole kernel build with the drivers integrated, and only Epic kernels work for the Epic of course. Not other SGS kernels even.

Never tried it. It's probably a bad idea, because if something goes wrong with the module you have no video. And, it'd still take changes in all the kernels to make it usable with all of them. Still, I like the idea.

I don't see it on my phone. It's not as white as my LCD screen, but my phone's screen isn't blue. So I agree..go without it.
If you set 7 smartphones next to each other, you'd probably have 7 different hues of white. Just a thought. I'll admit I got lucky with my Epic cause I don't have the blue tint. I compared mine with a Vibrant and its amazing how different of hue it is. I bet this post is super confusing, I'll stop now
hi
what the hell is voodoo lol im kind of new but i know how to flash roms keyboards an plenty more but what is voodoo im a fast learner
Pretty sure, geniusdog's kernels will keep having voodoo in them as long as Herver's continues to have it.

Uhm, link may be important.
I think he means this :
http://project-voodoo.org/color
He probably is referring to the recent voodoo update for the vibrant, this includes the color fix and the lag fix.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791478
I really hope they bring this to the captivate soon. I'm not a fan of high color tempuratures.
Is there any way to manually tweak the display without having to wait for the Captivate version to drop?
thats pretty cool...hope we get this soon!
I *have* noticed a red tint ever since recieving a new Captivate from warranty; thought it was just my eyes, but hopefully this comes to us soon.
I'd like to get rid of the blue tint on my display also, this would be cool !
With people getting captivate with different tints, couldn't some of that be due to hardware variations? And wouldn't those hardware variations make a one-kernel-fits-all solution useless?
Hello,
This is adamholden85. Most of you know me from Axura. I have formed my new team(first team actually) and I want to start hearing from the community what you guys want your next ROM to have/do. I am not looking for specific apps, that you can do yourself. I am looking for things such as functionality, looks, feel and so on. Please let me know so we can put this together and really put out something amazing for you.
i know you have played with the Armani rom, as have I. give it a shot, it appears to be fully working out of the box with no funky kernels or modems (only thing i had to do was enable 850mhz)

In regards to look, I prefer the current look of 2.5 so I would like to see something along those likes as the base. Other themes can modify visually from there.
Otherwise, Im up for about anything I am just totally sold on that look.
Awesome, this sounds like great news. I was really disappointed to see that you got pushed out of AXURA by a couple of bad apples being louder than those of us who truly appreciate the work you do. I started flashing back on my HTC Fuze with Winmo and your and Hans thread with AXURA was the most user friendly and helpful thread I have ever found on all of XDA. I'm definitely looking forward to this. Anyway, just wanted to let you know there are lots of us out here who are truly grateful, keep up the great work!
Anyway, to stop the love fest and maybe contribute a bit to this my personal preference is to avoid the OC/UV kernels. They just seem to add possible instability and I don't think they add much real world benefit at all.
Also, just a feature that seems to have been lost in Froyo that I liked in 2.1 was the ability to change brightness by swiping across the notification bar. Not sure if that's possible, but I'm suprised that no one else seems to miss that function, haha.
Just my two cents. Can't wait to see what you have for us Adam!
I kind of liked the green icons you had in version 2.5.1 But never did have any luck installing it and getting it to work correctly. Maybe I should of done a clean wipe.
Either way v2.5 works great.
I think some of the red icons like I have seen would be nice, I do miss the 3G icon. Even if it actually is H ?

Anybody who makes custom kernels for 2.2 wanna incorporate the BLN mod? Its the one thing that I feel 2.2 needs. Everything is great with the roms and kernels that come out, but that is one thing that is seriously lacking. I feel it needs to be addressed. So....any takers?

source for 2.2 just came out like 24 hours ago...it takes time to integrate mods into kernels..especially when most kernel devs for the fascinate/mesmerize/showcase have to get back into the swing of things after nearly 2 months off since froyo leaked
i didnt mean right away, just for future kernels. I think it would be a good thing to have.
+1 for this, NoLED is nice but unfortunately locks up my phone from time to time. Once again no rush devs, just showing interest.
I had it for 2.1 and I thought it was the best app ever. Its good to look at your phone from a distance and know you have a email/text/missed call.
yup i miss the notification light of my EVO.
if the home or search button came on when there was a notification that would be cool.

Nope, just the soft-key back-lights unfortunately. It sounds like a neat feature, hopefully someone will bring it about.
The fascinate ROM's are exactly compatible with our system (if it's built on a voodoo kernel, then our voodoo kernel would most likely run it, don't ever run a different model's kernel/radio obviously) so if they do any work on it we could easily port it.
Bln worked with the 2.1 voodoo kernel (JT's, iirc). It's one of the few things I miss...

Actually, I am talking about the kernel he is building from the EC10 source drop. In fact, it looks like he's already released it between now and when I wrote that last post. It has the works: BLN, Voodoo Sound, Voodoo Lagfix, Undervolted, It has network speed increases, an interactive cpu governer, and more that he doesn't even mention.

... Showing my interest also.
It looks like it's going to take a recompile of libsurfaceflinger.so. I tried using adb to push it to my xoom (just for the fun of it, since I knew I couldn't truly brick it by doing it) and it hung on the dual core tech screen with both of the versions of libsurfaceflinger.so that were provided in the link (they're the files in the .zip updates that are replaced).
It will probably have to wait until the honeycomb source is released before we see this solution supported, unless someone knows how to hex edit the existing honeycomb libsurfaceflinger.so (if it's similar enough to Froyo's or gingerbread's). I looked for the changes that they made to it to support the color calibration and all I could find is that they had made the changes in the "source". (Whether that's C or ASM, I don't know).
Short answer is, unless someone has found another way to do it- this method's probably not going to happen until honeycomb source is released.

I know its been a while, but...
I'd be interested in something like this too, if it is made to work on the Xoom. I bought my Xoom partially to show my photography portfolio, so I would pay for an app to let me fine tune the color.
Doug
Yes, I would also pay/donate for a solution. I also noticed, that the screen hue is dependant on screen brightness level. It would be great if a brightness level dependant compensation could be implemented.
Also a Photographer btw.
Greetings from Germany!
Chris
YES we definitely need to get something like this going, should be a very high priority among XOOM devs, IMO.
I think so, too. I can't believe so few people are complaining about this!
Sounds like you will want to look at this tip of mine found here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099941
It's not exactly what you were looking for but it does enhance the Xoom's screen quality and diaplays a little nicer color. I am gathering a list of user known issues so that we can help solve them and possibly get some new features added. Hope this was helpful.
Yes, me too please. I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1v and just got a Xoom WiFi. The colors on the Tab are much richer and gray is accurate. On the Xoom the color is definately on the 'cold' side by being a bit blue and the saturation looks a bit washed out.
I work with Photoshop all day on a calibrated monitor so perhaps I am being a bit picky but the GT 10.1v is much closer to my monitor than the Xoom.

I really wish the CM7 team would integrate the voodoo functionality into the standard CM7 kernel.
Is there a reason not this hasn't been done already (other than someone just not getting around to it yet)?

Whoops, hit thanks instead of quote. This is what happens when I leave late for work and don't have my morning coffee
I believe the reason is the author requested it be pulled, he didn't like the implementation of it on the g2x. (I believe this is in part due to the fact that nvidia hasn't released source they need to make it work 100%)
I've found that voodoo on the g2x was a placebo at best. Sure, it made it louder, but the dynamic range seemed to lessen (especially on the high end) when using it. On devices that have it implemented properly, it's a beautiful audio engine, however.
(I could be wrong on this, it's second hand info at best, so feel free to correct me.)
Thanks for the info. Makes allot more sense now.
