[Q] Cannot unlock bootloader for verizon htc one m8 - Verizon HTC One (M8)

This was previously rooted and unlocked, but I have been trying to re root phone after 4.4xxxx update. Now it is S-on and locked but I am unable to root now because firewater S -off and unlock process does not work. I believe because Supersu will not update and I don't have the binaries, yet the weaksauce app states that I am rooted.
Any suggestions?

Why would you turn s on and relock ? None of this was required to root after the ota.
You cannot use weaksauce anymore and since you turned s on the old su app is now system protected meaning you cannot remove it. Your only option is sunshine and that will likely complain since you have an old su app installed that you cannot remove.
Try sunshine. When/if it fails pm me.

Thank you for the response.
Yeah I realized turning s-on and locking made the problem worse. I tried using Sunshine and that failed. It is a no go.
Would installing stock RUU work? Or is that not an option now since I locked it.

There is a encrypted ruu for s-on but you have to be on 1.55 before you locked your phone as you can't downgrade while s-on. So r you on 1.55.XXX.x os ?

I am currently on 22.21.605.2, so I don't think the stock RUU will work, though I haven't tried that yet. I did that originally when I initially started the process to update to 4.4

It won't work. You would need a encrypted one off your base. I forgot you were s-on.

[Q] Help with SuperOneClick?

I unlocked the bootloader with HTCDEV; i tried SuperOneClick afterwards. At the first try the process came to a halt and the window didn't respond, then i disabled fastboot and tried again, the same situation occured. The process stops at the 7th step in SuperOneClickv2.2 shortfuse
My bootloader shows that it's ***UNLOCKED*** and S-On.
Can anyone tell me what's wrong? Is there another way other than SuperOneClick?
Do i have to format the SD card? Please Help.
Thanks.

Is the SuperUser app installed? If yes then the phone is rooted, which has nothing to do with unlocking the bootloader, it is still S-OFF'd.
S-OFF and rooting are slightly different things. You need to flash a different bootloader to S-OFF it.
If it didn't work you can use gingerbreak which is an apk file you run from your phone

It did not work, it shows a message- "rooting...running exploit... device will reboot on success". I waited patiently for about 6 minutes nothing happened then i closed it.

Your were right... i haven't wiped the cache properly. Thanks a lot man. My DS is finally rooted with custom ROM (CM7). I do miss Sense, but its much faster. BTW i cannot seem to install Google Maps, it's not supported for my region. Do you know a way to install it by unlocking Google Play?

Update to 4.0.4 unsuccessful?

The update to 4.0.4 for the ATT HTC One X has arrived! Unfortunately, everytime I update, everything looks good until it restarts to begin the installation of the update procedure. It gets about a 3rd done before it stops, then shows a red triangle for about a minute and restarts back. Saying that the "update was unsuccessful". What am I doing wrong? I am rooted on 1.85. The bootloader is "relocked". Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks, but I found out the stock recovery in my recently relocked phone was gone. I flashed the RUU the way I was supposed to (1.85) and It turns out, the bootloader became "tampered" again. I have no idea how that happened. But it's all good now. Currently finishing up installing all my apps the old fashioned way since I lost root (eh, didn't need it anyway)
See my posts in the PSA thread in General. I'm rooted on 1.85 but never unlocked. My update failed exactly the same way as yours. Still no luck.

If you deleted any system apps then the OTA will fail. You'll need to reinstall them or RUU back to stock before you try to update.

It is a root issue, rooting my phone changed the filmware version to include "R2" at the end. Not a big thing, but enough to completely f*ck up my phone when it was time to update. No more rooting for me til I gain the courage again... And root is found for 4.0.4.

Can't Root Htc One XL 1.73

So, I've been trying to use this method to root by AT&T HTC One X

Attached is the software information of my phone...
I run the .bat file and everything works and my phone reboots three times but then I try to load SuperSU but it says su binary code not installed which leads me to believe that the phone isn't rooted?
Any advice on how to get it to work?
Cheers,

Well that's odd since you're software says 1.73 but your hboot is of 3.18.

nah hboot is 2.14
Post a photo of your bootloader screen, because what you're describing is virtually impossible.
The only way you could be on hboot 2.14 and 1.73 software is if you got a refurb that was previously on 2.20 or earlier, was rooted, unlocked, s-off, had the 3.18 ruu run, then the 1.73 stock rom installed, then relocked and s-on, and no one at AT&T bothered to clean up the mess.

I'm sorry, even seeing it, I don't believe it. I just don't see how this could be possible.
In any case, the 1.73 root method might work, but with that hboot, you can't change cid, and thus can't unlock or flash a custom recovery, which means you can't get permanent root. You're stuck where you are, wherever that is.
They don't send ota's for the hboot right? I was on 2.20 few and 1.14 hboot. And got it refurb back in December

Ota does affect the hboot... Yes. But there's not an Ota that changes just the hboot. This must have been previously rooted. Most likely this phone was at some point unlocked and rooted, the person who returned it most likely updated to 3.18 after bootloader unlock/soff, had issues, Relocked and s-on, ruu to 1.73, returned to HTC where HTC fixed and repackaged without updating the software.
*edit* sorry that makes no sense.. Ruu would have downgraded the hboot too.. Just woke up -_-
We may never know what happened to thus phone lol.

I think it's possible to get that configuration:
-phone was originally on ICS
-root, unlock, and s-off
-apply 3.17 or 3.18 ruu to get 2.14 hboot. This would also remove the TAMPERED flag
-flash rooted stock 1.73 rom
-edit p3 or flash scotty's zips to relock and restore LOCKED text
-remove root
-restore s-on
-return phone to AT&T
I just don't see why anyone would do it or how it would survive the refurb process.
soo...err....is there anything I can do? I got it through Costco though...if that changes anything...

You're getting stuck on weaksauce? Try to uninstall everything, reboot, then re-download weaksauce and install again. Sometimes the root won't apply correctly.

[Q] Made the switch

Hey guys as you can tell I made the switched after I had and unfortunate issue with my previous phone. Pretty much the act of god and stupid me I didnt have insurance on it so I had to start a new line and fork over the 220$ price tag, but anyways. I got the phone last night, and it's an amazing phone. For some reason i always been afraid to try out HTC. For some reason seemed to complex to me, but after I did more research it actually isn't.
I have a few questions and maybe I can get some help:
1) I follow root junky on youtube, and pretty much watched all his videos on the Verizon M8. From my understanding after reading through the forums that firewater will not work on newer m8 models, and that I would have to pay 25$ and get sunshine. This true about firewater? I had seen a few post about people saying it works, and more saying that it wont. I do have the newest sense 6, and and the update came to the phone.
2) I also noticed about the temporary root access apk, and that with a phone reboot it resets itself. So if i do the root and then obtain the root and use titanium back up that actually resets also?
3) I went threw the forum again about water proof/ dust proof, drop proof cases. Anyone here have one or used one and what do you think?
4) Lastly if I do the sunshine is that considered full root, and then I can add twrp through flashify, and then roms if I decide to go that route?
Thanks in advance,
the_rooter
Firewater is working on some people's still. It depends what hardware the phone has for some reason. So your process to root and soff will be, following the threads here.
Use weak sauce to temp root, download SuperSU after, do not open the app or anything. Don't try and update binaries or anything.
Then use firewater, using the correct directions, there's 3 different sets if I recall. Just pick the right one that is for using weak sauce root.
Then if firewater works great, you'll be soff and unlocked. If not, buy sunshine and run it. Then you'll get soff and unlocked.
You'll then get rid of SuperSU and uninstall weak sauce app as well.
Then flash a recovery. I'd suggest fastboot flashing it, but I guess flashify would work. But you'll already have fastboot working if you tried firewater so might as well flash twrp with fastboot.
Once you have your recovery, download the latest SuperSU zip found here in chainfires thread and flash it in twrp. Then reboot and you will be permanent rooted. Then you can flash all the Roms or whatever you want.
Hope that helps.

No, you just try firewater. It really is easy. And if it works great, if not, no big deal. It will tell you, whelp, this won't ever work for your device is it fails. Then just use sunshine. Just read the how to threads and it really is simple. Droidmodderx on YouTube has a couple videos that are Verizon specific that may lend a hand too.

Once your s-off you will stay s-off unless they release an update ota and it can affect s-off and you flash it, in that case sunshine is supposed to work for your device once again. Just dont flash any new update until you know for sure that it wont affect s-off.
