Hi guys!
I heard that developers have control on one's phone when he or she installs custom ROMs. Is it true?

Not true 99% of the time, if you get ROMs from spurious sites then it may be a possibility that the ROM is housing some malicious applications but it's is unlikely.
If you're worried download from links provided here at XDA as it is not in our interest or the original devs interest to distribute links to malicious ROMs

hi htc desire s fans,
i just bought my device a month ago, and i got crazy when i saw the news that said that desire s will receive htc sense 3.0 and android 3.3.5,but i am sick of waiting, then i saw the guys here talking about installing thesis updates on there devices without waiting for the official update but i can't understand the steps they provide. so if any one can kindly explain in details how to install this updates or refer to a thread with the same topic will be great.
also a brief about the meaning of the custom ROM will be appropriated
thank you guys.
Well i have desire s and android at all one month too. From what i have learnt i can tell you in short: you must do S-off,root your phone and than flash new custom rom with new sence and android. Tutorials are here - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186401
I am afraid i cant tell you more, because i am not expert on that, maybe somebody else could
thanks mmarekk11 for your help,

I am not so much advanced and that is why i want to ask if it is possible to do S-On after rootig and flashing new ROM - and of course root and custom ROM would stay. I want to know that for the case i fire eMMC chip on rooted device and in service i would want repair under warranty. You know maybe they just take a look at S-on and say warranty is ok.
So is it possible or is that a nonsence?
Custom rom explained as
Stock ROM
A stock ROM is the version of the phone's operating system that comes with your phone when you buy it.
Custom Rom
A custom ROM is a fully standalone version of the OS, including the kernel (which makes everything run), apps, services, etc - everything you need to operate the device, except it's customized by someone in some way.
So what does the "customized" part mean? Since Android is open source, developers are free to take stock ROMs, modify them, strip them of garbage, optimize them, add things, and pretty much do whatever their imagination and skills allow.
hey im new to this, is installing custom roms just like jail breaking an iphone ??
i.e. can we install paid apps from the marketplace for free ???

As far as i know this forum do not support piracy so we are not allowed to answer about paid apps.
CUSTOM ROMS will allow you to install homebrew apps by downloading .XAP files from programmers here or using 7marketplace, this APP will download from marketplace the .xaps for you to install them on the phone but it will download the freeapps thats why it is allowed here.
Custom ROMs are not at all like jailbreaking an iPhone - they're more akin to installing CyanogenMOD on an Android phone (gives new features, gets around stupid carrier restrictions or delays, etc.). In fact, it's exactly like doing that; CyanogenMOD is just a custom ROM itself.
If your goal is pirating apps, GTFO - some of us are legit developers too. At least read the damn forum rules before posting, OK?
Hi,
with due regards to all the hard work this forum members have put in creating and maintaining ROMs, one question popped up :
can we trust them?
would it be possible for someone building a custom ROM to place a script on the installation zip that transmits user data or credentials to the ROM maker? Who checks the authenticity of the ROM? Is there a check done before someone is allowed to release their ROM?
asking these, coz most of my banking and financial apps would be installed on android phone flashed with a custom rom.
please guide.
That's a good question. And the simple answer is that if you want to use the rom you'll have to trust them. There is no formal review process. This forum is self policed. However, there are a lot of smart and honest people here and if someone finds something funny going on in the rom it will be reported in the rom thread. That's not good advertising for the rom developer(s). In my years on XDA I've only seen that once, maybe twice.
Now that the bootloader can be unlocked, and full rooting is on its way with fully supported TWRP, it will be possible to have a large choice of ROMs.
What do people think will be the best for this -tablet-, er, phone?
Resurrection Remix 5.8 Rom
Thor Galaxy S7 Style Rom
Even as it is the device is very well built and with only rooting I am sure we could do a lot of customisations.
KANGVIP pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

Hi Everyone!
I must have stated this many times before in different threads but let me repeat. Whilst the ZF3U is a very capable and really useful device, the developer community has abandoned any work on this device. Root is available, kernel unlock is available but no attention from developers. I really cannot understand this. Even the Sony Xperia Z Ultra with its lack of features such as a basic flash and dual sim got more roms and customizations than our ZF3Us. ZF3U definitely deserves more attention, in fact it deserves more attention than the Note Series due to its size and base features. I have been wishing for a proper Paranoid Android style rom for a long time but there is not even one credible rom for this device. Very disappointed on this aspect of the device.
CAUTION! In my opinion, and as many have learned the hard way, I would strongly advise that you do not unlock the bootloader and/or root unless you really are prepared for risks. Until decent support becomes available use the device in its original factory state. I am currently on my 2nd ZF3U and have no trouble at all. I even, suspect that the current root method and TWRP may even be corrupt that some users are having these issues. My 1st one died after so many software issues and then root related issues so be cautious is my advice.
@AWFRONT, Thanks for sharing.
There are just no dedicated 'developers' for most of the phones in the market on custom ROMs. All the them are users and volunteers like us. You can always step up as a developer.

I agree but think that Samsung phones seem to be getting the most attention than ASUS and Huawei. As someone who has been following the developments on Custom Roms, I think since the move by most OEMs to bring their UX on their devices closer to stock Android, most developers do not think it is worth any attention apart from Root and may be Xposed mods etc… .
IbwishvI could step up as a developer but, lets say the preessures of life make me stay for the time being as an enthusiastic user but you never know.
I have some questions
1. Is roms safe? if not what can happen? good privacy?
2. Why in pretty many roms camera stop working? spying?
3. Where i can learn developing etc phone things you now
I dont know where i put this so sorry if wrong place.

That depends if the ROM was made for your device model, usually open source ROMs like Lineage OS might be better than your stock rom, after all they got nothing to hide in their source code xD
So yea! I belive that a rooted device with an open source custom ROM is a lot better for privacy than a stock rom that has all sorts of bloatware embeded in it.
