Looking for an app/tweak/hack/kernel tuner/xposed module or whatever to adjust display colors. Franco's Color Controls only seem to adjust the high mids, and I need more control over mid-range and the tints of the gray-scale range.
Specifically, my display is orange-tinted from the low-mids to the mid-highlights. I need to make grays more neutral any color in the midrange less orange.
Disregard this comment.

I'm so confused... I have Busybox and Trinity Kernel installed as well as purchased the trinity kernel tuner, and the color settings aren't listed under "tunables" like it shows on the play store. Also the Trickster Mod kernel tuner doesn't list color options. Neither Trickster nor Trinity tuners list color options on Franco Kernel or Trinity Kernel.
What do I have to do in order to tweak the colors? This yellow-tinted display is messing with my eyes :/

trickster mod only shows and supports whats available in the kernel, the trickster app does absolutely nothing on its own. and trinity doesnt include color control.. yet. and tkt app diesnt support color control at the moment either.

Thanks for the help. Turns out Trinity color control was for Nexus 4 only.
Well, do you have any idea what DOES work for color adjustment on the Nexus 5?

You sure? I was using Franco Kernel and bought his FKU and it doesn't seem to have any profiles. It does have minimal and incredibly confusing settings to adjust gamma, but there's no explanation of what the settings do or how to use them, and from my trial and error it seems the settings only adjust the brightest color ranges (highlights and mid-highs). I made a thread about it. I'm very interested in finding a way to fix my displays colors...
EDIT: ok so I just found an app by Franco called Nexus Display Control. Will report back if it helps with my situation.

Sure man, go into the FKU app and choose color control and choose load a color profile and pick one. I liked Vomer_balanced a lot.

There are literally no profiles to load. Furthermore, that Nexus Display Control app is literally just Color Control module from FKU, which itself is only some miscelaneous gamma settings — far from full color control like it shows in the play store...
Is something wrong with my device? Am I doing something wrong? There's so much more to color control (as demonstrated by Franco's own pictures for his app in the play store) than a mere few gamma settings, so what gives? As I pointed out in the thread I made for FKU's color control, the negative and positive settings both seem to do exactly the same thing, and none of them affect anything besides highlights and high mids. I've been working on this since yesterday with the slowest internet connection of all time, I'm pulling my hair out trying to get to the bottom of this...

You're exactly right! I thought that was the description of the popup, I never would have thought it was a button, wow... Thanks!
Ok so I guess what it comes down to is whether you (or anyone) knows how to access the rest of the color controls other than the miscellaneous gamma controls? For example, as depicted in the play store?

Ok well thank you! Vomer_balanced seems to have neutralized my display quite nicely, but I'll probably play around quite a bit over the next few days. Hopefully others will contribute to the thread I made so we can make sense of the controls, and it would be really nice if someone found out how to access the rest of the color controls like it shows in the play store.
Again, thanks!
Is there a way I can change minimum brightness of my phone without using an app that must run in the background all the time?

Obviously not or why would he post in this thread?
To your question OP, Im pretty sure you can only go as dull as your display panel supports. Now I would presume the ROM you are running would be optimized to allow to go to its minimum brightness but if it wasn't then maybe you'd be able to edit it manually

I've known ES Task Manager's screen adjustment menu to allow a slightly higher and lower brightness than is allowed by default.
It also doesn't have to be running in the background to work.

I'm not sure but this app might help - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.pruss.superdim&hl=en

It doesn't seem to be a tinting app

If you are on stock AOSP and you have xposed you can install gravitybox, which will allow lowering of brightness levels.

I believe those are all screen tinting apps that must run in the background thank you though.
Sorry that none of the suggestions worked for you...
Just out of curiosity, what is your reason for not wanting a background app? I personally don't like them myself, but mainly because they have a constant icon on the notification bar (some apps let you make that transparent but it still blocks a spot up there)
I tried out the Screen Filter Xposed Module which TimeAndroid suggested and there is no icon on the status bar, nor is there any app running in the 'Recent apps' if you try and close open apps. There is a slider if you pull down the status bar which I actually find convenient.

I would like to lower my minimum brightness to make it easier on the eyes at night and improve battery life when I don't need the screen so bright. If the app is running in the background, it is counterproductive I believe since the app will decrease your battery life.

I really doubt the background app for this, is causing any battery life loss to make any impact whatsoever. Any savings in battery life from a dimmed screen would make up for it, many many times over.

Hi
So I checked with the developer of Screen Filter in this thread here and he has confirmed it does not run in the background. He has provided details to show that battery is not consumed by using this module. While the filter will give ease to the eyes, it will only save battery if you have an AMOLED screen and not an LCD screen.
You can check out post #179. Hope this helps!
Hi guys here you have a proper review of the Nougat firmware for the S7 edge based on my personal experiences.
So I installed it yesterday night via odin thx to @laimonas777.
With my own experiences I can say it is not as nice as I had thought.. It's hard to use, it's full with small bugs and delays and sometimes it can even freeze up to 30 seconds (My experiences).
Every app has got the new GraceUI of the Galaxy Note 7 including the settings app.
One of the best Nougat features, the display scaling option has got "only" 2 different options which do not differ that much from the standard option.
Let's talk about the Notification panel. You now have 6 toggles visible at the top but you cant swipe anymore. When you pull the statusbar twice you will see 9 toggles per page. Its much harder to find one toggle you are searching for because of the 3 toggle pages. On Marshmallow all toggles were visible in one "page".
Also the colors could have been better but I think everyone has its own opinion there.
Something which is also weird is that you have a search bar on the notification panel but actually you cant type anything in there. Instead, this textfield will just open the finder app.
The camera has got newer options and a totally different but perfect UI which I really like. But the new color modes are actually not that important features and were also aviable partially in 6.0.
Lets move on to the recent apps panel, which is a big pain.. The recent items got taller just like in stock nougat but the scrolling is a very big pain. Its just as the android nougat developer preview 1 for nexus devices also there are some minor graphical glitches which I have shown in the video.
Another thing I want to mention are the notifications. And yes, they are ugly but i am sure samsung will fix that. On every notification where you can tap for an action (example whatsapp, to reply) is a grey bar, which looks horrible. You can see it in the attached ss
Performancewise it hasnt got big changes but dont forget the delays when opening some specific apps etc. The battery consumption is also a bit higher but all these will get fixed with the final build (hopefully).
But now lets talk about the positive things :silly:. The Multiwindow option has got much better than it was on all other touchwiz versions, in short, its almost the same as in stock android nougat. Another thing which is perfect is the Window apps mode where you can open apps in window mode. We all know how bad this option was in Touchwiz, maybe no one of you ever have used it but now the window mode is very good and snappy. The negative thing there is that you cant deactivate these both modes anymore. So always when you try to pull down the notification panel from the right or left top corner, it will just open the current app always in window mode which is quite annoying.
And something which is annoying like hell is that if you play a game like doodle jump where you dont need to touch the screen the screen always turns off after a while. So the auto screenoff option doesnt get disabled while playing games or (maybe) even while watching a movie.
Galaxy Labs is now removed, so now you cant get all apps on your homescreen and you cant hide the appdrawer.
Remember that this is a very early beta build, and all of these bugs are normal and wont be there in the finale build.
Here is a quick video about the update to see how it looks
What about a dark theme...it was rumoured that Android N will have a dark theme not only that light one. Also the existing themes in store (for Samsung) work properly on N or not?

Keep in mind this is the frist beta released from samsung, so some things might hopefully change by the release of the final firmware. Also, you do have scaling other than going through the developer options. Go to Display -> Font and you will get to cgoose both the Screen zoom (which is set to almost huge idk why) and of course the font size. This comes to be as tha Normal and Condensed options back from marshmallow.
Hey glad to help. nice rview my friend. . :good:

Hello, thank you for great review. Could you confirm one exciting feature of android 7 (atleast for me) that it works on this phone beta software.
As of Android 7.0 phone can read 2G/3G/LTE frequency without ROOT. Easiest way is to install app Cellmapper(mapping cell towers to map) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cellmapper.net.cellmapper&hl=en
Could you run this app and post screenshot while connected to LTE only(no wifi)? Also, maybe send debug report from settings menu to developer with screenshot.
Thank you

Strange review .... I have been using it also since yesterday, and it is faster and smoother then my MM stock ...
Agreed there is some laggs when double tapping the multi tasking bouton, but overall its snapier and more responsive.
Also I have not noticed any freeze. I find this beta very polished to be honest.

Thank you. Does not seem to report more info than in android 6.0.1. If you see LTE band reported on Cellmapper screen you can make another screenshot, but it seems that this functionality might not be there.
It's not a review, it's a rant. I literally have no issues with it, no freezes what so ever, it's actually snappier than MM.
I think the 'review' tag should be removed from this thread or it should be locked, as it is full of false information and the corrections to that false information have been given, but the 'review' hasn't been updated. If people read this thread thinking it is accurate, they will get false information.
The comment about display options, for instance, is just the OP not knowing what to do. It's not something wrong or an option that has been removed, it's just a lack of knowledge.

Yeah, I don't get that with any app. The only thing a bit laggy is the "new window" tab animation in the browser and the notification bar. Apart from those two things, it is fine.

It seems they are now inverted from before the update. When I hit invert, the menus look correct, but the rest of the stuff is messed up, so that doesn't work.
How can I get my dark menus back without ruining the colors of everything else?

yeah, that's Oreo's default theme. Lots of white. So what you are seeing is entirely expected and normal.... inverting the colors affects everything...
If you want to theme Oreo, you can do so, but you will need to be routed and install 'substratum' found in the play store... Oreo supports theming, but I think for now, you must be rooted (although, last I heard there should be a paid app available soon that doesn't require root)...
Also, there are lots of Oreo compatible themes for substratum, available in the play store.... I'm using a dark / pure black theme. Love it.
Good luck
You can try Substratum and Swift Dark/Black Theme
I still have this problem. It would be nice if Textra fixed the issue. If you go to Customize Look -> Screen Color -> Light, then the menu appears white with dark text.
But if you choose Dark or Black, then it's white with very light text.
Why can't Google just provide a setting to let us to choose either a light or a dark background for the menus? I don't want to root and I'm not going to buy a theme app. I don't want to "theme" anything else. I just want a toggle to choose either light grey or dark grey settings screens. Simple enough.

My settings menu didn't go dark. Just the Google App and the notification pane. And Swift Dark is not quite there yet on 8.1
Oreo update HORRIBLE, knew in 2 seconds I would hate it when my notifications section turned to white background (you suck google) then noticed all kinds of thinks I didn't like. Apple updates made my phone worse EVERYTIME and now google is doing that. Simple stuff like changing background colors GONE and worthless stuff added to hug up the phone. Had my Moto for 3 weeks, first 2 weeks liked it, updated to moto oreo and now DON't like it anymore. I just wanted security patches not my OS screwed and ALL my setting gone, and why is this clock showing up again. all my setting which took forever to figure out and now reset back to what i didn't like, then add the horrible WHITE background garbage like the notoication window. I didn't want my nice UI screwed up. So I learned that like APPLE every Andriod update will be worse TOO. sad, don't like my new phone anymore, thanks for updating it to GARBAGE.

Hey!
I will pay! I will pay a developer! What apps do this?! I will buy them in a heartbeat. I am just as frustrated as OP and some other posters in this thread.
I AM NOT ROOTED ON AN HTC 10.
I spent all morning on a deep dive in the Play Store tinkering and installing several apps, and none of them addressed the actual issue of allowing the user to choose the color of the notification shade. I can't stand the white either.
Please help.
Andromeda, it's on the app store and also probably easy to find on here. Sorry I don't have a link at the moment, I'm on mobile. But the app is about 2 dollars and works great on my Moto z2 force.
Keep in mind you will need a laptop and some basic knowledge of turning on usb debugging in developer settings. It will need to be a Linux/Mac/Windows computer. Chromebooks are not supported as far as I know at this point.
See the xda thread for more details. Find it by looking up "Andromeda xda" on your favorite search engine of choice.

I went through that whole process this morning also. I kept getting a "run shell script" error with my Mac. It's real frustrating. I didn't want to do it, but I gave it my best shot, and I followed all the videos and directions, but no one knows what to do if "run shell script" error comes up.
Didn't work out I guess. But I gave it a shot. Still is so much to do just for the option to make an eff-ing black notification shade.

I went through that whole process this morning also. I kept getting a "run shell script" error with my Mac. It's real frustrating. I didn't want to do it, but I gave it my best shot, and I followed all the videos and directions, but no one knows what to do if "run shell script" error comes up.

I have a few I've used that are unmistakably dark.
I think the reason is because I use Nova Prime as my launcher, so the themes aren't going to pick up on that and thus change the color of the notification shade.
Yes I too I'm pissed off at this new Oreo white look I like the look of my old build WTF why can't Google give us a choice why can't we theme just the God damn color I'm really pissed off now.
I'm so pissed off as well, can't get menus and title bars or even pop-up menus to be black. It was fine back on nougat 7.0
Now it's all white
I dont mind the Oreo update but like so many I hate hate hateeeeeeee the stupid status bar, its white. I wish they allowed up to change the color on the status bar like we can for the AOD clock. I have a background of nature and the sun is up there and I cannot read the clock, battery, connection status etc because its invisible on the wallpaper and I have a theme. I tried to use Andromada but it looks so confusing to use and you have to pay for it and the feedback from the public is bad
**** google for this. YOU HEAR ME??? **** YOU GOOGLE! YOU SUCK! FORCING WHITE BACKGROUND SCREENS ON US! MY EYES HURT... I"M GONNA CONTACT MY LAWYER!!
Some of you may not notice, but I'm sure there are a few that do. Touch screen responsiveness on custom ROMs or GSI's for Mata is working, but is definitely not as fluid as stock.
Easiest way to tell is just typing on the keyboard and taking note of the shot delay in between touches. For me, I type fast, and this causes spelling mistakes often, because the touch screen (on a ROM or GSI.) doesn't register as it does on stock.
Next is mobile gaming. Touch seems to be a total hit and miss here, and sometimes won't work at all unless one finger is already on the screen. That's not a big deal, because a simple reboot fixes this temporarily. This was fixed a while ago here, if I recall correctly:
https://review.lineageos.org/c/LineageOS/android_frameworks_native/+/198809
Overall I am hoping to find a fix for this touch responsiveness issue. It effects a ton of aspects of this phone and prevents me from staying on ROMs, and resorting to restoring backups to use my phone properly again.
I've tried messing with the build.prop, switching kernels, checked out various forums and attempted things I probably shouldn't have tweaked with, but still have had no luck figuring this out on ROMs or GSI's. Yet on Stock everything functions properly, and touch is no issue.
Can anyone shed any light on this at all? (To clarify there are 2 issues here: general delay in touch, and touch screen not working after a while on games.)
Hi, I just flashed gsi rom yesterday and also found it more laggy than stock. I tried to search for a way to improve it but failed. Please let me know if you find a way to solve this problem.
Actually I flashed it just to make the stasus bar shorter and make it possible to disable navigation bar. I may change back to stock if I find any method to do so on it.

Still trying different things, but so far no luck, touch remains a bit laggy. Gonna try something later though, are you currently on a GSI with Root?
In: system / usr / idc there should be some .idc files, I wonder if there are some entries on stock that aren't in GSI's or ROMs?
I dunno, just shooting in the dark here.

Yes,I rooted it. I just checked idc folder of my stock room restore, there are no more but 1 less idc file in the stock rom. I copied the entire idc folder to main storage, restored the gsi room and replaced it. I don't think it makes obvious change,at least did not make the touch screen as good as the stock.
But I did flash elemental-x kernel after flashing gsi. It might have make it better? Maybe I just got used to the sensitivity of gsi but you may try to flash the kernel and replace the folder, see if any changes are noticed.
I'm running the latest HavocOS GSI build with the neutrino gemini kernel. Also using Ex Kernel Manger so the settings will stick or can be changed. No touch lag or the like on my end. Very smooth.

Is the status of Havoc OS as high and wide as the stock room? Or is it just normal size as on other Android devices? Considering transfer to it.

Unfortunately, the latest build of HavocOS is from October 27th. However, you can still use the latest December firmware/security update from Essential.
There is one bug with it, at least for me and others, and it's the fingerprint sensor doesn't work for us. It doesn't show up in Settings either. It worked on previous builds, though. Not to knock the developer at all, as I appreciate the work that has been put in.
As far as the "normal size" you brought up... Are you referring to file size? If so, it's in the same ballpark as any other stock/stock-ish ROM that doesn't include gapps. I used Pico gapps, as I don't use many Google apps. Hopefully that answered your questions.

Thank you for your information!
I'm sorry I mistyped the question. Actually what I wanted to ask was the status bar, which bothered me a lot on the stock rom. I flashed to pixelexperience specially for changing the status bar height to normal (and being able to disable navigation bar completely). I don't know why it was so hard that I didn't find any way to do so on stock rom.

Oh, yeah, that's the other "issue" people have had with HavocOS on the PH-1. The status bar is very thin...About 50% too thin, and I don't know of any way to change it. It doesn't really bother me after getting used to it. I'll have to try out Pixel Experience, though. I do miss the fingerprint sensor working properly.

Thanks for the input, pretty sure I have already tried the Oct 27th Havoc OS with Neutrino and still had those touch issues with games, but I will give it another shot in case, did you by chance modify a few things with EX Kernel Manager?

The status bar is also thin pixelexperience if you care. Aside from the touch screen latency, I haven't noticed any other issue on this rom, so I recommend you give it a try.
Tried Havoc OS paired with Neutrino, and tweaked around with EX Kernel Manager last night for a while, but still had issues with touch on games and keyboard. Literally everything I have tried on custom installations has not helped improve touch responsiveness.
Come on, surely some random dev still lurks these forums who also notices these delays in touch. Would love to help solve this if I knew exactly where to start, and am willing to test or tweak to get this resolved.
No idea if this will help, but it's easy to try. In developer settings, find grip rejection and try toggling it on. Else, in the same place, try adjusting touch sensitivity.

Grip rejection and touch sensitivity aren't available in GSI's unfortunately, but even some ROMs that do include those settings still have delayed touches, and games eventually lose touch until you reboot on occasion.
Compared to stock, the only ROM that had touch working perfectly (like stock) was Kuran's AICP O. I suspect this has something to do with his kernel, but I am just speculating, I can't be sure on that one.
Then even on a GSI with a stock kernel I still get touch issues, so I have a feeling it has something to do either something in /system but then again, I'm still guessing.
But I appreciate the reply thank you for chiming in on this. ?
The only reason I suggested that "fix" was when I was running AOSiP Pie, that was the only way to get rid of the lag. Simply toggling the grip rejection solved the problem immediately.

Huh, last time I was on AOSiP Pie (maybe a week ago) I still had touch issues, but hell, for some awesome customization, maybe it's time for another try on that. Thank you, by the way, I really dig that signature of yours.

Throw a setprop in front of these... And reboom... See if it helps
persist.vendor.qti.inputopts.enable=true

Thanks will try this tonight.
So I'd just use:
adb shell
Then
setprop (entry here)
?

Edit: I think I may have gotten it figured, and at least narrowed down the issue. I Installed Havoc OS 10-27 again with Dec-patched-boot.img, then Neutrino Hercules over that, on both slots, changed CPU to performance and enabled touchboost, then added these lines to my build.prop and rebooted:
persist.vendor.qti.inputopts.enable=true
persist.vendor.qti.inputopts.movetouchslop=0.6
So far so good, touchscreen jank is gone, scrolling isn't bad at all, and best of all games seem way more fluid. Will continue to test it out.
Edit 2: So far so good games haven't lost touch, not even once, games are still fluid and there are literally no touch delays when gaming or typing. So either the kernel (with performance mode and touch boost on) or the entries I added to the build.prop have fixed this finally. Or both. So freakin' happy.
