Argh... My sim card is in, Vodafone's network is fine but I have no signal at all, can't even call or text anyone, or use 3G/2G... What do I do?
Edit: Before it happened, I went to flash Paranoid Android, but first, in CWM, I went to Mounts and storage, from there I did format system format Data and Format Cache. Later, I flashed the rom and its Gapps and no signal...
Maybe check to see of your IMEI got messed up. Go to settings>about phone>status and scroll down to IMEI. Make sure isn't all "unknown" or start with 0049. There seems to be a lot of this happening lately, so I would start there.

It says unknown at the IMEI. Do you know how to fix it so it so it isn't unknown?

Your efs folder got corrupted. Do you happen to have a backup of your efs on your sdcard? if not I would try this first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021
If that doesn't work then you are pretty much screwed unless you send it into Samsung and have them jtag it for a fee.
Edit: I also forgot to mention that if you have "unknown" baseband try going into your efs folder using root explorer mount r/w and delete all the files in there then reboot. I read somewhere that it will possibly default to the generic 0049XXXXXXX imei and you should be able to use your phone.

I tried that second option since my computer wasn't free but it still didn't work. I'm going to try and see what Vodafone will do. I know they won't do anything but I'll see. Also, using another sim card won't work either.
Update: I fixed it! All I did was download the stock Gingerbread file, flashed it and updated to 4.0.4 via an ota update. Now everything is fine again.
Hello,
I just downloaded the update to 44s.
After successful flash, it didn't ask me for a PIN after boot. I flashed using "reboot -> go to recovery".
Additionally, it says "invalid sim" and doesn't connect to any cellular network.
I am in Germany, using the stock firmware before (it was up to date, but not the 44s).
What can I do now? What was going wrong?
Thanks.
Update: I flashed cm-bacon-ac1ccf7921-to-5fa8c79c0b-signed.zip
I went back to stock, but the problem persists...
You probably lost your imei.
So in my phone's info, there is an IMEI. The IMEI SV is 00, that looks strange.
But in fact, the sim card is not working in my Galaxy S3 now anymore.
Please help
David.
That should tell you that it's possibly the SIM card that's the problem.
Transmitted via Bacon
I made sure now, after trying and trying...
Different sim works in the opo.
Sim from opo doesn't work in huawai surf stick, nor the galaxy s3.
So I have a problem I never had: a broken sim card.
So all I did this evening was because of this.
Thanks for any help, this forum is so nice.
David.

timmaaa,
Hardware of software type of bug? If it's software, then couldn't/wouldn't there be a way to correct that?
Are you aware of any way to trigger the IMEI loss? I'm just starting to mess about with 3 OP's and I sure do not want to run into any issues.
Basically I unlocked and rooted an OP, set it up, TWRP'd it, and backed it up via TWRP. Then took that backup and copied it to another OP with basic unlock, rooted & TWRP'ed phone, and restored it to that phone. All seems to be working fine on both phones. Soon to do a third. If the IMEI is software stored I can see that screwing things up.

It's firmware related. There are threads discussing how to fix it in the q&a section. It happens randomly as far as I know.
I don't believe the IMEI is carried across unless you're reporting an EFS partition from another device, but there's one way to know for sure, compare the IMEI's on the original device and the second one that you restored the backup on.

so David, another question not related. If you forget the problems that you had with the SIM, is the OPO working fine on 44 now?
I am running 38 atm.
Actually I was happy to have it back, running at midnight
If I update, I will tell you.
David.

Can i flash other firmware of s4 on my phone (shv-e300s). For example, i want to flash shv-e330s lollipop or indian's lollipop firmware for my shv-e300s. Will it work? Does my network/signal will be removed or still stays? Thanks for answer.

It may work but there is no guarantee at all. Another region's firmware will include another modem version (May affect your signal / reception) and in some cases the partition table is different from the one your phone actually use, which means you can get trouble if you want to flash your region's firmware later. In any case make a backup of the phone's "EFS" partition to be sure your IMEI will not get lost and the phone become unusable.

"EFS" is one of the phones partitions storing somje data. You still can backup it, but thats not very usefull as the partition already got screwed up. With IMEI 0 you should not get any carrier signal // reception.

As long your phone is not usable for getting signal or accepting your simcard you will gain absolutely nothing my performing a EFS backup as there seems notghing on it that can be saved.

I'm really curious about it as your carrier will normally refuse establishing connections to simcard in a device with invalid IMEI but in that case backup your EFS.

i will, for giving me a lot of informations and help.
Before : CM12S YNG1TAS17L rooted.. Works perfectly fine.. perform nandroid back up using TWRP before flash kernel. until I flashed Franco kernel r42.
After : Upon 1 boot after flash kernel, screen colour turns very unsual. The phone cannot detect simcard network at all. I've tried friends Simcard and several different carrier network. All cannot detect the sim card. & the phone freezes for 1-2 second then restart by itself its been doing this everytime I boot up. When I shut down the phone, it automatically start it self. I've tried restore back nandroid backup , wipe & install new stock rom or custom rom, everything doesn't work. Not Simcard detected, freezes and restart by it self no matter what rom I've installed.
I have no idea what to do... :crying:

Why not? There's information all over the place that informs people that it's crucial to have a backup of your EFS partition. The backup is the best way to fix your problem, with you don't have one your chances are slimmer. There are a couple of threads here in the q&a section and in the general section that propose fixes, track them down and start reading.

Yeah, that's one of the threads I was talking about. If that doesn't work there's at least one more in our q&a section too.
i flashed my opo with oxygen os till yesterday it detected sim but now its not detecting and it showing imei number
Actually I bricked my device and I was trying to flash the stock ROM again using SP Flash tool. Unfortunately while flashing it shows sec_aut_mismatch ( or something like this) for the file called cust.img in the stock rom and says please disable verified boot. What I did now is "why don't I try letting it go?" I unchecked it. I flashed rom without this file. it got flashed, works fine everything except SIM Cards. The phone detects sim cards but no signal. SIm cards are fine Physically. Do you believe that this not flashing cust.img could be a cause?
MAIN THING: Flashed Stock Rom without CUST.IMG
Secondly I tried to flash the cust.img using fastboot now, but still no luck. I don't know what this file does. PLEASE HELP ME. I AM IN TROUBLE
That's most likely an EFS problem. Do you have some backup?

EFS is something responsible for your IMEI which is connected to the signal and SIM.
You cannot have phone signal if you don't have IMEI number which you could have lost. Can you check if you have IMEI? If not, the problem is probably in modem and I would be happy if you had backed that up.

I don't see any IMEI numbers. A little research tells me that I must have nvdata.bin and nvram.img in the backup. If this is correct then I don't have such a backup. Is there any way to fix it up without backup?

One more thing I notice is that when I enter Recovery mode, It says "nvdata corrupt" in red. More information you may want to know is:
My device is redmi 6a
Wifi works fine
Baseband version present
When I insert sim cards, it detects them(icons get updated on the notification area) it also says getting sim info.
When I enter phone information, it says signal strength in those numbers when sim is inserted
I believe that hardware is fine thus. I really regret my step of trying to change OS. I just want to get sim working somehow

I think flashing stock ROM would fix your problem. I don't know what else could be.

You should know that EFS ( NVRAM ) is a partition on your Android device that stores all the important data associated with your phone. For instance, these data include the IMEI number, Mac address of Wireless devices, important files of internet and product code, etc. Moreover, this data is so important that without this, you would not be able to use your Android phone. And it is very important to keep this partition safe and backed up in case things go south.
My guess is because you were flashing custom ROMs and/or modded apps that you have lost this important EFS ( NVRAM ) partition on the device.
