Not sure if I am phrasing my question well enough for search to work, but I looked and didn't find anything. Is there a way to make the swipe down launch a google now search rather than the HTC voice dialer?

If you are rooted and running Dalvik (not ART) you can install the Xposed Framework and run Sense 6.0 toolbox which permits altering the gestures. There certainly may be an easier way, but I know that way works.
And btw has nothing to do with dotview.
Maybe I am changing the wrong thing, but under wake gestures I changed it to Google. It works if the phone is off and I don't close the case. When the dot view car is closed it still launches the HTC voice control app.

UPDATE: Version 1.1 is prettier and now launches straight to the Google Voice inbox without the delay from Version 1.0.
Here is a simple app I created that will allow Google Voice to be launched from the message icon on the MIUI lockscreen. I use it with this ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915527
Usage:
Install the attached APK.
Lock your phone.
Unlock your phone from the MIUI lockscreen by swiping with the message icon on the right.
In the "Complete action using" dialog, check "Use by default for this action" and select "Inbox"
You're done! Now whenever your unlock your phone with the message icon, it should launch straight to the Google Voice inbox.
You may need to uninstall any previous versions of the app, since they were signed with the debug keys. To do so, navigate through the following:
Settings -> Programs -> Manage Applications -> Downloaded -> com.ayuforever.googlevoicecatcher -> Uninstall
For anyone who's interested, the reason that Google Voice isn't available by default from the lockscreen message icon is that it doesn't have the intent filter for the "vnd.android-dir/mms-sms" mimetype. This app registers the needed intent filter and in turn launches the Google Voice app.
This is really cool.
How hard is it to change the lock screen icon designations?
Is it possible to change one of the icons to be a search icon, so that when you unlock with it, it launches a search keyboard?
p
lets try this again.

All I wrote was an app that catches an intent that Google Voice didn't already catch. Changing the icons on the lock screen? You'd have to ask the MIUI devs about that.

I don't understand what means. You are making the messaging icon point at another process or app?

The messaging icon starts the activity for the default intent of the "vnd.android-dir/mms-sms" mimetype. While the stock messaging app and other apps like Handcent register this intent, the Google Voice app does not.
All this app does is register the necessary intent and then start Google Voice.
It doesn't do any sort of modding to the MIUI lockscreen at all.
how do I uninstall it? thanks in advance
I don't have to wait long for google voice to open I use swiftkey it opens quick for me thanks

Google Voice for calling
Have any of you gotten Google Voice making calls to work? So far the dialer doesn't seem to want to route my calls through Google Voice... :-/
Ran across this today. Wonderful stuff. Works perfectly after setup.
Edit: Working on Samsung Captivate
Thanks.
Working great so far with Rod's miui mod!
I've been wanting something like this for a long time.

Same thing has been happening to me.
How did you solve this? I need GV for international calling.
EDIT: I figured it out. Go into settings > Programs > Call Settings and enable 3rd party access under the phone security section
thanks.
This works so well...thanks! You are great! Now if only I could get 5 point lockscreen to recognize Google Music
This works perfectly - Samsung Fascinate on miui 1.9.x
Tried thanking you in your original post, but I only see the "Thanks" buttons on page 2+ of the this thread!

Did Verizon disable this for some reason? Or did HTC? When I open the Google Search app (where you can usually say "Ok Google" to jump into voice commands), the settings say it's enabled, however it doesn't say "ok google" next to the microphone icon in the search bar, like it usually does
It's especially weird because I vaguely remember using the Ok Google a few days after I got it, but I could be mistaken (quite often this is the case)
No matter how loud I've screamed at it, it's not working. Anybody else having this?
Lol. The m8 isn't "always listening"

Ok Google works with this phone. There is a setting that enables hot word detection in Google now, check there.

I know it's not always listening. However you usually can say OK Google from the Google now app to go to voice commands
And I already have it on in the settings, but it's not working.
Oh and also when I installed the Google now launcher to see if it would work on the home screen there, it didn't.

Is your app out of date perhaps? It works fine for me, but it is limited to the Google Now app. I can't do it on the homescreen, but it works perfectly fine from the Google Now app (swipe up from home).
If you are totally up to date, maybe try going with a factory reset.

If you want it on the homescreen, you'll have to sideload the Google Now Launcher APK and use that instead of BlinkFeed. You do lose access to HTC's widgets, but other than that there's not much difference.
If you want to do that, here's the XDA thread to get the APK:

Now Launcher's folders are a white circle background with the "stack" icon effect. You can simulate this in Nova and see how you like it before installing.
Nova Settings > Folders > Background > White Circle

Is there any way to reach S Finder in an easier way than having to go to the notification panel? It's really annoying as I want to be able to search my phone quickly, and not by having to drag down the notification slider in order to open the search function. Or do you guys have any other recommendation for a file/contact/app finder or search app (other than Google, since it's generally sluggy for searching internally)?

of course there is mate,
1. Install nova launcher (there are other ways, but that is how I did it)
2. go to widgets and click 'Activities'
3. Select 'S Finder' from the list
You can also check out Conjure which is a similar app that works well and has a widget. But like Mitko76 said installing Nova and using the activities shortcut gives you a lot of options!
Hey Guys! I just got my Nokia 8.1 today and it came with the notch hidden. I was surprised when I could't find the option to turn it on in the developer settings where it should be named Full Bezel.
So I tried googling it (duh!) and I've seen a lot of people complaining about it but there was no easy solution., just something over SDK or something, which I don't really know how to use.
So basically the option is hidden but it is still in the settings.
Soooooo I got an Idea and tried this:
1. Install Nova Launcher (you don't have to use it, just install it)
2. Tap And hold on home screen and go to widgets
3. Chose Nova Launcher - Activities and place it on home screen
4. Scroll Down until you find settings and open it
5. Now scroll all the way down until you see Status bar style (.settings$NotchSettingsActivity)
6. Select it
BOOM! A direct shortcut to the Full Bezel setting!
Hope this will be helpful to someone. :fingers-crossed:

System UI > Glance Style
And yeah, it changes nothing.
Btw, if you chose System UI demo mode from System UI you'll get a System UI tuner where you can manage icons on notification bar. I've added a headset icon because it's not showing by default when it's connected.

Yeh, yeah, I saw that, too, but then only a small percentage of users got the update. That's why I had to find an alternative solution. And still there is no update in my region as well. And it's March 11! Hopefully they'll skip the previous one and give us the March SP update.
Edit: Just got the Feb... I really was hopping they'll bundle it with March SP but it doesn't matter. Hopefully the next one wont be delayed as much.
Anyway, even after the update I don't have the option to turn the notch on and off directly from settings.

You can download Settings Database Editor from Playstore. Look for Notch full bezel and set value from 1 to 0. Works on my european model.
the update didn't remove this ability
They only moved it to another place away of developer options
So , Just navigate to the Display Option > Advanced >Full bezel
and it lays there

Yes, here 8.1 too. Other methods failed.

Nope, not in European model.
As i have read this article, i have realized, that there are many things about my nokia i didn't know about/ God bless you for that. I use Microsoft Launcher instead of Nova, so i found Activity Launcher in Play Store, that does pretty the same thing as Nova shortcut. God bless you.
Just want to mention that if someone wants to hide the notch but can't find the option in Settings, try this app called Nacho Notch. Works really well. Also has adjustable dimensions for the status bar, navigation bar and the corners of the display

Hi guys, and thank you for all of the informative posts in this forum. I recently traded my 4a for a Flip 3, and find myself really missing so many elements of the pure Android 11 experience. Any advice on how to get a little functionality back?
- Multitasking pane behavior: the window switcher button automatically flips to the previous app instead of just bringing up the app tray. Additionally, my beloved Screenshot and Select tray buttons are gone - I just started getting used to using the picture copy functionality.
- Dialer: I installed the Google Phone app and have it set as my default calling app, but incoming calls still don't have the Decline / Screen / Accept red/blue/green buttons.
- Settings shade menu: I'd like the brightness control to appear at the very top of the pulldown. Really, I just want stock Android everywhere.
- App tray: flick up to get to your apps, but then have to flick sideways to page through them? Ridiculous.
Any advice would be appreciated. I hate the idea of bloating my phone with a ton of apps to customize the experience, but it seems like there's no way to run a stock Android launcher in place of OneUI.
You could try Good Lock on Galaxy store.

Only works on Pixel phones: exclusive feature.
Don't want to come across as a jack ass but sounds like you need to switch back to pixel phones. Or like one other person said try good luck from Samsung store.

Give some of the Samsung features a try. You are talking the difference of a single click to return to the previous app and there are only about 10 ways to take a screenshot, ranging from gestures to keys.

There are 1000 custom apps for this stuff, but you only need one of each. Once you find ones you are satisfied with, it's not incredibly hard to hide the stock ones away and forget they exist

If you want a truly stock experience, unlock the bootloader and build a generic version. Samsung hands you all the tools and instructions.
As for advice, I suggest actually trying the phone before trying to make it a Pixel. It isn't. It never will be. If you prefer Pixel, stick with Pixel.
