APM, rebooting takes a LONG time..... - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Where as If I power off and power back on with the button. Its really fast, avoids the white HTC screen with the red text at the bottom. Is there a reason for this? A way around it?
My setup - HTC ONE M8 VZN with 4.4.3 NuSense Six ROM ROOT and S-OFF
Thanks all

Are you comparing simply pressing power to sleep and wake the phone to a full restart?

Here's what i'm doing. Sorry I should have given more info.
If I power down using the power menu option reboot, it then restarts the device however it doesn't "fastboot" it shuts down then brings up the white htc boot and the DEV jargon in red at the bottom, and the boot takes a REALLY long time.
If I power down using the power menu option Power Off, it shuts off quickly. Then when powering back on it skips the previous screen, fastbooting?, and shows the boot animation. This way is REALLY fast, nice for applying root things.
Just wondering if this has something to do with Xteneded settings? maybe SenseToolBox. While stock rooted, using standard power menu Reboot works great. fast booting past the dev screen.
However i'm on Nusense six ROM, I don't seem able to completely remove xteneded settings, I unchecked it from xposed, then hit uninstall, all settings remained enabled after 2 reboots. And it wanted setup again in xposed after the 3rd, seemingly to have re installed itself.

It should still show the splash screen even if you power off and back on the device

[Q] Power Button Failure

My power button decided to die on me last night (had the phone since Feb). Luckily, I can wake the screen using the volume keys thanks to widgetlocker, and I am using a widgetsoid app widget to lock the screen. Still would like my power button back, I can't switch off the phone without battery pull, and to switch back on, i need to plug it into a charger. ANyone experience this? Do I need to open the damn thing and mess around with it to get the button to work again? Looks like a purely physical/mechanical problem here.
so I guess I'm screwed based on all the views without any replies :s

ive been using my phone with a dead power button since august. no problems here(lol). and the same thing with my nexus one the year before. cm has a volume rocker wake option, lockscreen widget turns off the screen, rootbooter boots into recovery, bootloader, and reboots(can power off in recovery or bootloader). but, im not on cm anymore, now im on ics. in ics, if you disable the lockscreen, you can wake with the volume rocker without any extra apps. also, im using the button remapper app to use my search button as the power button to turn off the screen. im using the twrp recovery instead of cwm recovery, because you dont need the power button in twrp recovery. to power on my phone from a cold start, i just give my phone a light smack on the backside, near the power button.
haha, interesting comment about the backside smack! Couldn't get that to work from a cold start. I have to plug it in..
unfortunately, I am using stock ROM, so I will have to make do with the apps available to me now.. widgetlocker manages ok with the volume buttons, but sometimes it fails, and I end up having to call myself from my landline from the office when I don't have my charger with me.
Guess I'll have to wait for ICS to come OTA (god knows when that will be, but can't be too far away now).
same issue here
even my power button died a month ago.. and have never rooted my phone
have been managing with "widget locker" and "screen off and lock" apps.
Did you get the OTA update of ICS for nexus s
Now that I can't manually update my phone, is there any way to force an OTA to the phone ?
Why not have the thing repaired?

Get into bootloader

The easiest way to get into boot loader while phone is on. I see a lot of people posting different ways.
Reboot phone, either by pressing and holding the power button until the touch buttons at the bottom flash or just by hitting reboot within your ROM.
When the screen goes black, hold volume down.
No need to press and hold both at the same time unless your phone is powered off.
The advantage being you can do this with just one hand.
Download quckboot. That's the easiest way if you're already rooted.

Ah but this also works if you cant boot due to bad flash or something!
As this looks to be meant as general FYI, the following should be noted:
1) Many people that can't get into bootloader, is because lots of people instruct to just "hold power and volume down". Which, if taken literally, doesn't actually do anything. You actually have to release the power button (after holding it for a few seconds), while still holding the vol down rocker. which brings us to . . .
2) You have to keep holding vol down until the bootloader screen comes up. Otherwise, if you release it too soon, the phone will just boot normally.
3) If you press the vol down rocker too late, the phone will boot into safe mode. You need to hit it before the HTC boot screen comes up, while the screen is still black.
4) There seem to be a good number of posts by folks that can't properly get into bootloader, and assume its an issue with the phone. But 99.9999% of the time, its just user error (not doing the button sequence properly). Just follow the OP, and the points I've listed above, and you will get into bootloader. If bootloader was messed up in any way (corrupted, overwritten, etc.), the screen would not come on at all. So the problem is not the phone, but almost always user error.
The one exception to this might be an obscure mechanical problem, such as the volume rocker not functioning properly. But this if almost never the case.

The only real time you have to hold both down at the same time, is if your phone is already off. Otherwise so long as you press and hold volume when the screen goes black from a reboot, you will get in.

That's the best way. Most ROMs have a reboot function built in when you hit the power button

As OP mentioned, this won't help you if you are stuck on the boot screen. Which is one of the more common situations where noobs suddenly realize they don't know how to get into bootloader.
I always just hold down both power and vol down until the capacitive buttons stop flashing then let go of power but still hold vol down until I get into bootloader. Works 100% of the time

Bootloop can't get into recovery

I am running Cm11 nightly , can't remember the day i think it is 2/21. Well randomly today, the phone rebooted and went into a bootloop. I am not sure why it is doing this now. But even if i remove the battery, and replace it the phone will bootup automatically and continue the bootloop. I can not get into recovery, just Odin. I have read that people have been having trouble with the power button sticking, can anyone confirm this? Any other suggestions?
Thanks
Try volume up + home + power to get into recovery. When you see the blue text in the top left corner saying "rebooting recovery" let go of the power button but continue to hold home and Vol up

If I do this, I see the blue text in the top left but then I get the Samsung loading screen and then it shuts off and reboots.

another option if you cant get into custom recovery is to flash it with a stock rom using ODIN, you will lose everything but it might be your only option as to recovering your phone.
I have figured out that it is a hardware issue. I can boot into the phone if I continuously press the power button as it is booting up. But once it gets fully turns on, the power screen will constantly come up and eventually the phone will just reboot and start the whole process over again. From what I can see, the power button circuit is stuck in on I believe.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Looks like I am just going to have to get a replacement.

[Q] Issue with phone.

Ok. I am writing here since it was suggested. I am having a major issue and unsure how to fix it. The following is the issue and steps taken thus far with no resolve. Hopefully someone else has an answer to assist me. I really need this phone to work as it is my lifeline.
Star is I have all updated firmware, rom, and even updated xtended settings. I have today also installed the viper sound for the first time. I will say I have settings changed throughout with all the variations. Xtended settings, nusense toolbox, vipersound, normal settings, and Xposed framework.
What is happening is the phone needed a reboot. It shows the splashscreen and then shuts off. It will not fully boot. I have tried to hold the power vol/up buttons together and quickly vol/down. But that does not work. Now I have also tried adb and attempted to find the device but with no power seemingly it is not able to work.
Anyone have suggestions I might try? Please advise.I have even attempted adb but the pc does not see the device since it never gets fully turned on. It is a splashscreen and then dead. Really wish there was a way to get it to just turn on for access somehow. Anyone have a suggestion?
Have you tried holding the power button and up button till you get into fastboot?

I have actually held the button where it will only show the splashscreen and then show a bit of the TWRP recovery screen. However I cannot pick anything from the menu before it goes to the battery icon showing it is simply charging. I really have no clue what is needed to be done now. I am surprised it has let me get that far without just turning off again. But this was done by holding the volume button up and down and power button all at the same time.
Do you have any other suggestions since it is not being seen by adb on the pc?

It should let you get into the bootloader if it gets you to the splashscreen @Tigerstown any ideas?

Unplug your phone. Then hold power and volume up for 30 seconds. Plugged in you are hitting the twrp bug.
Edit... After unplugging wait 20 seconds before attempting to boot it.

[Q] Sensation 4G won't power up unless I remove and reset battery

I have an odd problem and I don't want to re-flash my ROM until I figure out what it is. Whenever I power down the phone, I can't power it back up again unless I remove the battery for a few seconds and put it back in.
When I press the Power button after powering down (and leaving the phone "dead" for a few minutes), it won't turn back on. If I press and hold the Power button, the soft touch buttons at the bottom (home, menu, back, search) will start flashing. If I try to power up from power off state after the phone has been charging overnight, nothing will happen. The battery in/out trick clears it allows it to power up normally. Other than this the phone seems to work fine.
DETAILS:
Phone: Sensation 4G TMO version
ROM: ViperS C2 5.3.0 (De-sensed)
S-OFF (Juponutbear trick)
Latest 4EXT recovery.
Any thoughts what could cause this? I was running CM11 but decided to go back to ViperS because of battery life. This just started happening with my most recent flash effort. (I do a full wipe each time and install the updated WiFi package thing.)

go to settings and untick fastboot
Thanks! That seems to have done it. Fastboot was OK on other ROMs. Wonder why not this one?
