Removing Nvidia Shield LTE AT&T apps - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I brought the Nvidia Shield 32gb LTE solely for the expanded Storage since I had a B&H credit to waste before it expired. Is there a way to remove the at&t/lte stuff?
Meaning removing AT&T app/Data widget, Freezing or stoping the LTE modem to save some battery.
SO far I've been putting it in Airplane mode, but I wanted to know what apps were safe to freeze/remove in TiBa to stop it permanently.
Any ideas?
Thx

You can freeze AT&T AllAccess and atttool with Titanium backup to remove the AT&T stuff. As for the mobile radio stuff, you can (as you've been doing) put it in airplane mode then enable wifi, which will keep your cell radio off but still let you use wifi. There are apps that do disable cell and keep wifi on without going into airplane mode, but using airplane mode is the simplest and safest IMO (not having to install some random app to do so)

No problem to remove those!
I used ES file explorer while rooted. There's a setting to be able to install/uninstall system apps if you're rooted. Remove AT&T all access, Smartcom Helper Service, and ATTtool. No issues since i removed them. Titanium backup is useless when you have ES File.
I've been digging around to try and find a way to actually disable the radio, and haven't found anything yet. If i find a way, I'll let you know!

Lost 3g/4g connection

Guys I am really struggling with this phone. I have wasted 2 entire workdays now trying to get it how I like it. Yesterday I rooted with motofail2go and ran into an issue with usb only recognizing as charge only. Turns out I had to enable debug mode, turn off the phone, turn it back on, and then disable debug mode. Fixed the problem at 130 PM today.
At 145 PM today after doing this fix and running an ap called reverse tether my mobile data has disabled itself and I cannot get it to turn back on. Wifi is fine. Like I said I ran into some problems with debug mode switching settings around even when outside of debug mode and I cant for the life of me figure out how to reset my data connection.
Key fact: Even though the phone shows no data, when it boots up gmail always pops up with hundreds of new messages that I havent had the time to check nor did I choose to open the gmail ap. Its like gmail can still access the internet but it is disabled for me or any other function. For all I know it could simply be chached messages showing up automatically without checking for or recieving new messages.
I have done a soft reset and cycled airplane mode a few times. I have cycled thru the available network options and still nothing.
I am really having a hard time enjoying this phone as much as I would like to becaue of these weird issues. This is my first Motorola and I must say I am not impressed. And then it is sad coming to the XDA photon Q forum and there is no organization, no stickys, no useful threads hilighted, its like no one even cares about this phone. I have no clue what I am even doing when rooting, unlocking, bla bla whatever but at least the other forums are well organized and thoughtfully moderated. I dont even t think the mods here have the Photon...
Rant off... TIA
I seemed to have all kinds of random issues and problems when I first got this phone rooting and applying the first few mods, but...knock on wood they all worked themselves out and it's been solid.
A few weeks ago during that time I too experienced the loss of data issue. I was on wifi all day while at work tweaking & playing with the phone, then when I left work,...bam,..no wifi. Reboot, nothing. Airplane on/off, nothing. Tried updating the PRL, weird thing is I could watch it turn the 3G on to "phone home" to Sprint, then it would say the PRL was current and the data would be back off. WTF? Haha..
Surprisingly, what ended up working for me was the SprintZone app.
I opened the Sprint Zone app.
Scoll to the bottom and in the lower right there's a "Help" tile.
Scroll to the bottom of that next page and at the very bottom it says Update Profile.
After hitting that, I had my data back and haven't had the problem since that one time.
I wanted, so badly, for this to fix the issue. I just knew it would... but it didnt. I updated my PRL and Profile by wifi along with the Sprint Zone update you mentioned but still nothing, only wifi.
Can Sprint do any sort of reset?
Is there any way that Moto or Sprint have an auto off switch installed in the phone or the programming that is triggered by something like tethering without a tethering plan? Or rooting without using the Moto unlock key via motofail2go?
On a more general note can someone please tell me how to transfer files from my internal storage to the SD card? My internal memory is literally all used up by 2 games and my usual apps... i keep getting the low volume space warning popping up. Pretty ridiculous for a brand new top shelf phone.
I don't think it will make a difference, but make sure you are NOT on wifi when you try the SprintZone update.
I wasn't connected to wifi when it worked for me. Probably separate causes behind our similar issue, so what worked for me may not for you, but worth a shot.
I found out what it is:
Why did my mobile internet stop after using this app?
It has been reported very rarely that mobile internet stops working after using the app. This is due to the Appear as 3G feature.
If the 3G option is causing you problems, you can turn it off in the settings menu.
If this rare problem happens, to restore your device's internet, go to Mobile Network settings > Acess Point Names (APN) and choose Reset To Default from menu, or manually add your carriers APN.

Can anyone tell me how to reset my APN on the photon Q?
To transfer files from your internal sd card to the external sd card you can use a file manager like Astro or es file manager. I use es file manager personally, it has all the features of root explorer in a free app with easy to use interface. The internal storage is marked as the /sdcard directory and the external sd card is marked as /mnt/external1
In es file manager just enable the root options in settings and navigate up one level from the /sdcard directory to find the /mnt directory.
The built in file manager will do it too, but the options are limited and interface is clumsy.

[Q] glichs in droid maxx root

Just got done rooting my Droid Maxx, this will be about the 8th phone that I've rooted so I'm not a complete bozo when it comes to rooting. I appreciate those that have come up with the root and have donated when ask for. This last root has done some weird things to the phone
1. Bluetooth commands wont work, answer and call cancel work, but no voice commands. When asked to choose what program I want to use, which it shouldn't, I press google voice and it says program illegally installed.
2. I've change the entitlement to take advantage of my grandfather rights, but it seams like I have to on/off airplane mode to reconnect to 4g to get internet pages to come up , this happens anywhere frome two to 10 minutes on the internet.
3. I've also installed Titanium back up. want to remove allot of the blot, [I never get rid of proprietary programs] after removing programs like NFL football and the like, those programs come back and are re listed in the app pages.
Any thoughts to whats going on. ?

[Q] I would like to disable my cell radio completely. Help?

I am no longer using the g2x as a cell phone.
I am keeping in service, however, as a PMP. I like the sound quality, and because the DAC on my new phone is vastly inferior and noisy, I kept my g2x for music.
However, I removed the SIM card and now the battery is drained as the phone seems to still be searching for a signal.
Is there any way to mitigate the battery losses or disable cell function altogether without activating airplane mode?
Activating airplane mode effectively kills battery stats and leaves me vulnerable to a dead battery.
Thank You for your help. :good:
I would google search what system apps are responsible for cell/radio function. Wouldn't simply removing them do the trick?
I see. Thanks for the help.
Exactly how would I go about doing this? I'm no expert, by any means. Thanks.
Well, you would need access to your System/App directory. Which means the phone needs to be rooted. Are you rooted?
EDIT- After a quick google search I came across this solution.
"Rename phone.apk to phone.apk.bak and telephony.apk to telephony.apk.bak thus disabling these two packages. You have to reboot your phone to finalize the changes. If it doesn't work, you should remove the .bak from each file name and they should be available again."

Help me find my lost phone

How can I remotely track my phone? Android Device Manger = useless since I have location services toggle off on phone at this time. Any other suggestions?
LG G3 is type of phone. I'm trying AndroidLost app in play store with no success. Thanks. :crying:
You would have to setup everything beforehand. Try you local police station?
Maybe you also want to let your provider to ban your SIM-card to avoid a hefty bill in case your phone wasn't... that well secured.
Also change any password stored on the phone. Especially the Google one.
well i did some detective work and tracing my track back today and luckily found it.
I used to use PhoneLocator Pro but since Play Store randomly destroyed his service I have yet to reset something else up.
Great news that you found it!
Maybe now arm yourself with a bit more security
it's impossible , even the positioning device can just give you a nearby address
it's hard
for your next phone if you have it rooted use cerberus, you then want to make it a system app with luckypatcher

I would suggest as well (if rooted) to install advanced power menu via Xposed. It disables airplane mode button when device is locked, from the power button, as well as some other anti-theft tricks such as faking powering off
For me it worked in the past. Couple of friends wanted to prank me because I forgot my phone at the pub table, they took it but hid it. Although they thought they turned it off, I could see it into my house and I pushed the "Ring" button.

Deleting Hardware files leads sometimes to brick the phone

Hey there,
I started recently to look up for a way to permanently disable my wifi, bluetooth, NFS, Network and GPS. Unfortunately I didnt find a proper method to do that. There was the option to physically break the hardwares, but I didnt want to risk that, if I get something wrong there I wouldnt have a 2nd chance. Except of that, there was only some ways to disable the wifi but it was easy to re-enable it again.
Anyways I figured out, that I need to root my device in order to remove hardware files, but the problem is I dont know WHICH files would be okay to remove.
I'm using a samsung galaxy s8 with Android 9 Pie
Till now I rooted my device twice and deleted hardware files,
the first time I deleted wifi hardware files from the system/etc/permissions folder. That lead to brick my phone.
The second time I deleted hardware files of bluetooth and nfc from:
system/lib
system/lib64
system/vendor/etc/init
system/vendor/etc
system/vendor/lib64
system/vendor/permessions
surprisingly it worked, I totally disabled bluetooth and nfc.
Then I wanted to proceed to remove gps (I figured out S8 aint using gps but gnss) so I removed the gnss files and folders. But this time, it bricked my phone, so I had to reinstall the samsung firmware again and now I rooted my device again.
Before I start trying again, I would like to ask you, if any of you have some knowledge about this and if there is any no-go files, which I should never remove or smth.
I dont really just want to try out over and over, it is taking much time to do all this... I hope somebody can help me out.
Additionally, do any of you know how the network hardware is called? basically the hardware which lets you call people or just the hardware which connects to a network provider.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The reason why I want to do this shouldnt be important right? but if you want to know why:
I want to keep my privacy. I want to be able to connect to the internet only via ethernet cable and also I want to use my device more as a map to plan routes, camera, calc etc.
ALOT of other people want to do this too, but nobody (after searching for over 20 hours) had the right solution. Every way I found, it was possible to reenable it easily.
Thank you for taking your time and reading my issue! I hope you can help!!
I will give an update about this anyways!
I'm using a samsung galaxy s8 with Android 9 Pie
Model: SM-G950F
Update:
----------------------------------------------
I found a way to disable the following hardware:
(disclaimer: there is probably tons of methods to permanently disable hardware, but this is how it worked for me)
Ofc you need to root you device, I used TWRP as boot loader.
MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR DEVICE
you could loose your data forever!! and dont do the same mistake I did, not backing up the contacts.
Contacts are NOT in the internal storage, therefore you need to do a back up while rooted!!!
Tip: every file you edit or delete, make a backup of the original one and name it differently. If your android bricked, then you can use TWRP and delete the modified file and rename the backup again to the original name. This would help you to prevent wasting much time.
Bluetooth:
Delete the following file:
/system/vendor/lib64/hw/[email protected]
WiFi:
Delete the following file:
/system/vendor/lib64/[email protected]
GPS:
Delete the following file:
/system/vendor/etc/gnss/gps.xml
Some files I just edited them, these are permissions file, if you delete them completely, android wont work anymore.
You need to delete everything between <permissions></permissions>
You can edit the files using text editor
GPS:
Edit the following file:
/system/vendor/etc/permissions/android.hardware.location.gps.xml
NFC:
Edit the following file:
/system/vendor/etc/permissions/android.hardware.nfc.xml
Telephony:
I tried to dial emergency numbers, which should be actually possible with or without a sim card, but it didnt work.
Edit the following file:
/system/vendor/etc/permissions/android.hardware.telephony.gsm.xml
And that's it, now just restart your android and it should work with no problems.
I would recommend to download everything you want to have on your phone, before you get rid of wifi.
WARNING:
Most google applications like google map wont work, after you get rid of the gnss/gps. Google doesnt like it, if you turn off your location lol
The network data (LTE, 4G ...etc) is not tested and I am not sure if it is even disabled, I have the feeling that Telephony is not the same. I dont use a sim card anyways, so yeah. But if I found out a solution for that too, I will post it here for sure!
have fun!!
