Ok does anyone have any gossip about root with leaving the bootloader locked so we don't lose the camera and screen benefits?

ATM it is not possible.
There are no threads about people working it either, but there will be some people doing I am sure.
As soon as it is possible it will the development section and, trust me, you will hear about it.

Hey Guys, so I purchased my Maxx on release day and I'm currently on 4.4.4. I was just wondering if there was a root method available for me as I would like to have native tethering again.
Thanks for the help!

Fair enough. However, if your BL is unlocked and you are rooted, I doubt you are that much of a junior.
That being said, its pretty hard to have an answer about a update that hasn't even been released yet.
Basically, once it hits, some will take it for the team, either on purpose or on accident, and information will be flowing...until then its only speculation.
I'm sorry if I came across like a DB.

Unlocked BL means you always have root
Will we see a root for locked bootloader or is it impossible?

Personally I wouldn't count on it. But then, I am a pessimist when it comes to Sony rooting/modding etc.
It's not impossible but it will probably take a while for someone to find a way. There are some smart guys looking into it but who knows if/when they'll find anything.
A thread with a progress, attempts or ideas would be nice - IF some1 works on a solution. Maybe others could help.

Hi,
First of all i would like to apologize to everyone on this section since i am really not good with sony.
So i have a device which has a locked bootloader that cannot be unlocked. As the title says i am looking for custom roms or rooted roms with bootloader locked. As much as possible i have searched the development thread but cant find any.
So can anyone give me a link or something of a recommended rom for locked bootloader?
Thanks

As far as i know, that i've observed here, Revolution HD is the most popular (the one made by yash989)
Being stuck to locked bootloader sucks, my friend's SP is locked by carrier. i understand the feeling :/

I finally returned my Nexus 6, because of the weight and big screen, I decided to go with Z3 because of its good looking.
But after reading the whole forum, I realize that I cannot root it, GOD!!!!!!!
Can someone tell me that our Developers are working on it?
I really don't want to return my phone again.

Of course they are, when it will be available, anyones guess
Umm it's been rootable for awhile.
Really? For tmobile version? Any link to how to root it? Thanks.
not currently rootable
here we go
the "helpful" side of XDA
here's your answer :
the z3 IS rootable, but only if you unlock the bootloader. there are potentially some issues with this - DRM keys, low light camera not as good.
you can't do a TA backup as you need to be rooted to do so.
The Z3 is NOT rootable currently, if you want to keep your bootloader locked.
hope that helps more than "yes/no" above

See subject line. "T-Mobile Z3 (D6616)". All of the T-mobile Z3's are "Bootloader unlockable = no". Not rootable currently.
The tmobile version can't be unlocked as of yet. I made the jump thinking it could be but over all even with out root this is a beast how many phone can be themed with out root i know this one does.

No, and we only lose those features if boot loader is unlocked not by rooting. But the T-Mobile variant has a locked boot loader so there is no way of losing the DRM features.

If theming is your thing, check out the Apex launcher. Works fine on my D6616 from T-Mobile.
any update to this? I just want root on my D6616. 4.4 rooted is fine with me. It's such a hassle finding details for T-mobile variant in this forum!

Well i mentioned earlier too in Z1 forums, that T-mobile variants should get another sub-forum for android development, as its locked and mostly all ftfs that are applicable for the non T-mobile versions can't easily be used for the T-mobile variant. I wasn't complaining, i was merely stating my experience looking for Z3 T-mobile variant files, resources etc in a forum where mostly everything can't be applied to this version, sadly.

Right okay cool thanks for that. I have bad news for you, because your phone has a locked bootloader it cannot be rooted at this point until an exploit is found. I even had a look over in the At&T s6 forums and there's not much going on. Sorry mate.

That sucks but thanks for the straightforward answer. But there's really 0 options for me at this point? Not even downgrading or flashing? (Just some terms I've picked up, don't exactly know what those mean)

Unfortunately not, downgrading is when going from one version to the previous, due to how samsung setup their bootloader, trying to say go from nougat to Marshmallow is not possible so you will always remain on nougat. Flashing is commonly done via a recovery and a piece of software called odin, every phone has a recovery but most root things need you to have a custom recovery like twrp this can only be achieved via having root, odin is used to flash stock Samsung firmwares. Hope that helps a bit. For the time being my advice to you is to keep looking at the s6 at&t forums from time to time, at some point they may come out with a root exploit that works.
