[Q] Tmobile Z3 (6616)Root method available? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I finally returned my Nexus 6, because of the weight and big screen, I decided to go with Z3 because of its good looking.
But after reading the whole forum, I realize that I cannot root it, GOD!!!!!!!
Can someone tell me that our Developers are working on it?
I really don't want to return my phone again.

Of course they are, when it will be available, anyones guess

Umm it's been rootable for awhile.

Really? For tmobile version? Any link to how to root it? Thanks.

not currently rootable

here we go
the "helpful" side of XDA
here's your answer :
the z3 IS rootable, but only if you unlock the bootloader. there are potentially some issues with this - DRM keys, low light camera not as good.
you can't do a TA backup as you need to be rooted to do so.
The Z3 is NOT rootable currently, if you want to keep your bootloader locked.
hope that helps more than "yes/no" above

See subject line. "T-Mobile Z3 (D6616)". All of the T-mobile Z3's are "Bootloader unlockable = no". Not rootable currently.

The tmobile version can't be unlocked as of yet. I made the jump thinking it could be but over all even with out root this is a beast how many phone can be themed with out root i know this one does.

No, and we only lose those features if boot loader is unlocked not by rooting. But the T-Mobile variant has a locked boot loader so there is no way of losing the DRM features.

If theming is your thing, check out the Apex launcher. Works fine on my D6616 from T-Mobile.

any update to this? I just want root on my D6616. 4.4 rooted is fine with me. It's such a hassle finding details for T-mobile variant in this forum!

Well i mentioned earlier too in Z1 forums, that T-mobile variants should get another sub-forum for android development, as its locked and mostly all ftfs that are applicable for the non T-mobile versions can't easily be used for the T-mobile variant. I wasn't complaining, i was merely stating my experience looking for Z3 T-mobile variant files, resources etc in a forum where mostly everything can't be applied to this version, sadly.

[Q] T-mobile D6616, is it advisable to root yet?

Just got the T-mobile Z3. I looked for info but seems like users were loosing DRM keys by rooting the T-mobile D6616 and the camera wasn't functional at its best. Is this issue still here ? Are we rooting Z3 yet? Can someone direct me to the right recent thread.
Edit: sorry mod, i didn't realize questions shouldn't go in the "General" forum. Kindly close or move my thread to /help. Thanks.
As of today, there is still no way to root the D6616!
This thread is obnoxiously at the top of Google. Just wanted to make that clear to anyone looking to root their T-Mobile D6616 variant.
...and no this root method doesn't work.

Can I flash Xperia Z3 D6603 firmware on a D6616 T-Mobile device?

I was thinking of buying a Xperia Z3 unlocked on eBay (D6616) for the 32GB storage. But since I don't want the T-mobile bloat it comes with, I was wondering If I could flash the D6603 firmware on the D6616 and get OTA.
Now, I only need 3G to work since I don't use LTE at all. Will flashing a firmware from a different model birck/break the device in any way.
I also would be interested in doing this
I experimented with this a bit using mine. I accidentally flashed a D6603 firmware(5.1 or some such) and it did not work, resulted in a soft brick that was recovered very quickly and easily. I also experimented with cyanogenmod 12, 13(non official), and ZyxxOS.
It may have been my issue, but cyanogen had issues with the sim card not being detected, and ZyxxOS completely corrupted my phone. You would have better luck rooting and uninstalling bloat, but the other official D6603 firmwares shouldn't break your phone irreparably, but I don't think any of them work.
Anyone willing to do more testing with this, trying different D6603 ROMs? How about the new official Marshmallow D6603 ROM? That would be awesome if we could get it installed on our D6616. Please help!

Doubtful due to dm-verity security, it would be nice to get locked Bootloader root don't think it'll happen though, but there is no way I'll use kingroot I'll go without root before I use that.

It's not as simple as that, Kingroot devs need a security exploit to root, not only 300 peoples who need root lol, they are not Gods. It's like finding jailbreak exploit on IOS, you can wait for looong months or more.
Read this you will easily understand: http://www.xda-developers.com/a-look-at-marshmallow-root-verity-complications/
On ALL others Xperia devices you need to downgrade to Lollipop for root and update to Marshmallow after or have unlocked bootloader to flash modified boot.img and to allow root under Marshmallow.
But I'm crossing fingers with you if it can help :fingers-crossed:

Thanks for answer, good to know.. Even is a little bad info Im flash/root my Xperia devices since 2011 and never get any issues so far and i think that are much easier to make X series rootable.. But u're right - few times while rooting i have to downgrade Android, then root and then back to latest firmware with root on board Idk exactly why, but I dont want unlock brand new phone ^^ So we have to wait

Same here reluctant to unlock my Bootloader until I can back up the ta keys for which for our device isn't currently possible there's also no fully working twrp and more people seem to have the dual model than the LTE model so most stuff is for that. Plenty of experience rooting and flashing that's about it.

@aidy.lucas I'm OK with you, I lost 24 months warranty because unlocking bootloader but no pain no gain . For single sim models I have zero feedback and on dual no bad feedbacks after root. Just a little correction, TWRP is fully working like on others Marshmallow devices, mounting /system rw doesn't seem to be a problem on XA (tested full backup and restore) :good:

New to the ATT V10....no root for MM, I know, but a small question to clarify

Hello
I just received my V10, bought from swappa, and it has 5.1.1 on it. I see that there is no way to root MM, so we have to decide on LP rooted or MM unrooted, right?
If I want to root LP, can you point me to the thread? Also, I shouldn't accept the MM update once I activate the phone, right?

It all depends on what you desire. Some people (like me) can't live without root. Rooting unlocks the full potential and possibilities for the device. Sticking with LP rooted seems like a better choice to me. Also I've seen some people complaining about the battery life on MM as compared to LP.
Here's the link for root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-lg-v10/general/root-lg-h900-real-tot-make-tungkick-t3336317
Thank you affangta. Of course i want root. Who doesn't? My question was more technical than theoretical, like your answer.
My phone forced the upgrade to MM, and thus I'm now stuck like many others; i had no way of stopping the software upgrade right after I activated the phone.
Oh well

Unfortunately, when I bought the phone MM update was already installed in it. Hence, I'm in the same situation as you. What I wouldn't give to go back to LP and root the device
Hey all! Good news! A 9-year-old bug called the "Dirty Cow" exploit still exists in the Linux/Android kernel can easily grant root on any Android phone!!! See the video below.
http://www.xda-developers.com/9-year...on-of-android/
So there's another bug to exploit for root and even possibly unlocking the bootloader! The bug has been fixed recently in Linux but hasn't been rolled into Android yet. If anyone can get this working on my AT&T LG V10 (running Marshmallow) I'll give a reward of $50! Plus you'll be my hero! Now get crackin!

LG Stylo 4 root?

So the LG Stylo 4 is a beautiful budget smartphone and i cant find any information on it here at xda so i figured i would start a thread for people to go to and discuss getting root on this device. Anyone with any experience or if anyone thinks the root process for another lg phone might work with this phone and is willing to test out and report back let us all know.
I am afraid we are out of luck this time...see below
messi2050 said:
Unfortunately stylo 4 requires unlock.bin from lg to unlock the bootloader to be able to flash twrp in order to flash [magisk or super su] and root the device [those information are according to 2 of the real device owners as i don't have one] this is similar to what exist on some lg v20 and g6 [carrier models] and from my experience lg won't allow bootloader to be unlocked similar to what they did on the models i mentioned, this mean that it will be very difficult if not impossible at all to root the stylo 4 and it will end like the still non-rootable stylo 3 ls777 from boost mobile.

Im loving the Resurrection Remix Custom Rom.
Why not there is devopler options enable oem unlock have you tried unlocking bootloader via adb commands

Haven't tried anything yet.
Root x Recovery
Stylo 4
There is article that a quick Google search will turn up that claims to have step by step instructions including unlocking the bootloader of the Stylo 4 which is supposedly done with a .bin file emailed by LG after submitting IMEI number of the phone. But have yet to see any confirmations of this.
Any solution yet to unlock it?, mine is lg-stylo 4 metro pcs
Have any if you guys tried kingroot? I'm thinking of upgrading my stylo2 plus but I'm not going to if root hasn't been acquired. I used Kingroot about 7 times and got root on the first day of getting my Stylo2. Maybe it'll work on the 4?
Look, I want root as much as the next guy, but it's not happening this time. We gotta keep bugging LG/MetroPCS so the next time they release a phone it's unlockable! In my opinion root isn't as needed, although I'm missing some features like the ability to download Instagram photos, and some eye candy mods, not much is needed.

The bootloader not unlockable using the previous terminal or new fastboot commands....fastboot oem unlock, fastboot flashing unlock.
The carrier influenced the locked down of obtaining root.
Hope you guys can crack a hard shell..
Good luck...
I may try the old towelroot app, but i currently have a metro lmq710ms stylo 4 and it IS bootloader locked...you need a bin file that's derived from an algorithm that uses the device ID and IMEI supplied by LG to unlock the bootloader using a fastboot command. Currently, this device isn't on LG's list of approved devices for an unlock but if I'm correct the device is essentially a slimmed down spec lmg710 which means it likely uses the same bootloader. Only problem is without knowing LG's algorithm that's building the unlock.bin file we can't generate one using our device ID/IMEI combination.
I would say bug LG about it, but i fear this device isn't going to get enough people angry to get the job done! :/ which is a shame because it's a lovely budget device! Runs great! And a few root tweaks and kernel adjustments could really have it running like a flagship!

If someone was willing to share an official unlock.bin for a lmg710 then there's a REMOTE possibility a .bin could be built but it would be device-dependent, meaning the file would need editted for each device cuz they all have different dev id and imei's....i know there were some folks looking at it on another bl locked lg device but it's a real toughie with STRONG chances for bricking the bootloader...

The only thing i want more than root which is alot easier is the AR Stickers port from LG G7 ThinQ.. Im currently working on it with an apk tool app i can share.. Its hard to find.. Any help would be appreciated.. This phone is beast even without root.. I had a guy tell me he prefers it over the iphone 8+ cause its all screen like Galaxy S8, has wide angle camera with qlens so camera port is possible, android 8.1 and 6.2" lcd?! Best free phone i ever had.. Even got the $6 a month issurance cause I'm keeping this for awhile.. But root would be nice..
Ok so without a proper app port im not having luck.. Phone is only 32bit and main apps are 64bit.. Apparently the change need to be made in the manifest but not sure where in the manifest.. So far the ar core app install no prob since its 32bit.. After days found a google camera with modded manifest, its now 32bit and install.. Just ar stickers app port left and no info on modding manifest.. Any help would be appreciated.. This thread got quiet.. What you guys working on
Here are pics of cam working..
