Stamina Mode not really working. Test it yourself. - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have problems with Stamina Mode. It doesn't work for majority of the apps. Meaning, even if I don't whitelist an app in the stamina mode, their notifications shows up and they send/receive data: Pushbullet, Gmail, Twitter are only few examples.
Is this the case for any of you?

Stamina Mod doesn't mean blocking All Activities & Services of Apps.
It will just limit some activities & learning to limit more or less.
+ If you want to disable notifications you can check Notification Center
Setting > Personalization > Manager Notifications
+ If you want more restriction on Apps download also Battery Guru

Yes. It isn't working as it should.
Hopefully Sony will sort it out and make it work as it does on the Z1 and Z2.
An example being the fact that 3G and WiFi are not disabled when the screen is off.

Yes that's right it's not working properly
Basically what it should have done is to turn off connection while the screen is off.
Anyone else?

Same here guys. Not working for me neither

Same case with the Z3 compact.

Will test mine later - although one good thing about this is when it is fixed the battery may be even better!

My stamina mode on z3 compact not working either. What can be done with this problem?

For wifi to be disabled while screen is off go to WiFi settings, advanced, keep WiFi on during sleep sleep and change it to only when plugged in or never.
Also to save more battery you should untick "Scanning always available"

Ok, i've noticed that while stamina mode does not appear to turn off Wifi, it does stop my Gmail from syncing until I turn on the screen.

Another thing stamina mode will do is permanently disable mobile until you clear data of eco mode controller and restart. It doesn't happen all the time but it did to me yesterday. I've only had the phone 4 days so it's not a good sign!

Stamina Mode not working on my Xperia Z3c either. Won't disable Wifi or Mobile Data

What I have noticed on my older Xperia running 4.3 is that WiFi and Data don't actually turn off with Stamina Mode on as it did with the earlier implementation of this technology that was called Extended Standby Mode.
WiFi and Data, if manually turned on, must remain on so that they are available for any apps that are added to the Active In Standby list within Stamina Mode.
So Stamina Mode doesn't "turn off' WiFi or Data per se. It merely blocks apps from connecting, among other things, as long as they're not in the Active In Standby list.
This is only based on my observation. I could be wrong, but don't think I am.
However, if your devices are still syncing and updating with the screen off and unplugged and Stamina Mode activated, that is not normal behavior and something is wrong.

I have nothing in the whitelist so all apps should be blocked from syncing etc. But Telegram app keeps notifying me of new messages instantly while in stamina mode. Heck I never actually use battery saving modes or apps on any of my phones because they effectively cripple the 'smart' features of my smartphone and this Z3 is a battery beast in any case scenario. I just wanted to see what more this beast can do in stamina mode and realised it doesn't actually work.

Hi Guys
I saw an answer from the official Sony Xperia forum moderator.
It's attached below. Did you guys try the Stamina mode for 15mins and confirm it's still not working?

Thanks for that @henihazbay
I will give that a spin tomorrow and feedback to this thread. Currently trying battery for something else today.

Hmm. Stamina Mode historically kicked in after 1 minute of screen off time. It was Extended Standby Mode that kicked in after 15 minutes.
I suppose it is possible that it has been changed to 15 minutes though. But why would they?

I've tried to wait 15min and also half an hour. Still not working! The 15 minutes seems strange though, on my wifes Z1 compact stamina mode works straight away from the moment she turnes off the screen.......
I've been in touch with sony trhough facebook, still haven't found the answer. But he said it was very strange. I haven't got a reply about what to do yet.

[APP] [2.3+] Data Switch SAVE BATTERY Easy

Stay in sync, save battery, data traffic and money.
WARNING for Android LOLLIPOP users: Mobile Connection Cycle Works only on Rooted Devices.
One of the functions that use a lot of battery is the data connection.
Using this app you can also save 30% of battery; this means that at the end of the day you can have 30% battery instead of a fully discharged battery.
This application is useful to save battery, data traffic and money, also limit the device radiation and stay in sync.
It allows you to cyclically connect to the Mobile Network or to the Wifi one to synchronize e-mail, appointments, contacts, program data, etc.
With the "Cycle when Screen Off, Connect on Screen On" option Checked you can have Automatic Connection when Screen is On and Cyclically Connection when Screen is Off; you can forget to switch the connections!
You can also delay the termination of the connections when you turn off the screen; this is useful for example when you are using a Chat App and you're waiting for a quick response.
Review on xda-developers Portal
With the "Cyclically connect regardless screen state" option checked you can Cyclically Connect when you are using the device, for example, while you're watching a movie.
If a Wifi connection is available it will take precedence over the Mobile one, to save data traffic and money in case of not-flat rates.
You can also enable sounds and vibration alerts, enable and disable notifications (PRO), set start at the boot, suspend the cycle and enable connections when the device is Plugged, set the type of connection you want when you turn on the screen or the device is Plugged or Unplugged and set the times at which the cycle is suspended.
The application installs some WIDGETS that allows you to activate the cyclic connection or turn on/off quickly the Mobile and Wifi Connections.
To be synchronized and save battery power, for example, set "Activate Data Connection" every 10 minutes and "Keep Data Connection Alive" for 45 seconds.
Advanced PRO Functions:
. option to set how many minutes activate data connection
. option to set how many seconds keep data connection alive
. option to disable notifications
Advanced features will be developed in the future...

My Gtab 10.1 has the deep sleep bug when wlan is set to always on.
With this tool I could set settings from wlan to "always off when screen off" and combine it with your tool to get the best benefit out of it.
so it does not work yet with screen off? Will test it as soon as i got home
Deep Sleep?
This is what I was looking for. But I have one question: when it performs check will it wake the device from deep sleep? If so, won't it have opposite result, that it will drain battery faster?
How is this different from what juicedefender does?

I entered the awakening of the device (still for a few seconds) because on my test device (Galaxy Note 2), unlike the Galaxy S2 where everything works fine even in deep sleep, i could not activate the wifi when the device went into deep sleep.
In the next version will insert an option that will not trigger the awakening.
But I think, if you use some reasonable settings (eg run every 10 minutes - no less) the awakening does not affect consumption of the battery.
However, you can not have everything in life.

Fast Drainage of battery?

Hi guys, I have a problem that the battery of my Moto G drains too fast and I would like to know why.
I hope someone can help me.
The device often gets active and I don't find a reason for that strange behavior.

If you are rooted i suggest getting Greenify and Xposed framework then get the module called AppOpsXposed, KitKat Battery_Stats_Enabler and Better Battery stats,
with these running and setup correctly i can get 0.1% an hour battery drainage in sleep mode which is pretty amazing.
Good Luck.
Sorry I am not rooted, the device is completely stock. I don't have an idea why the device is often active, location is deactivated, Facebook sync is deactivated too and I don't use much more apps. The problem appears suddenly.
well after a lot of playing about with mine I found that changing location services to "device only" and rebooting helped a lot. I was at 69% after a day with light use, now I'm on 60% after 3 days of similar use.
Device only? You mean only GPS? I normally set location by wifi/mobile network. But if I set it up, Google location services eat up my battery. But why? I mean that in the beginning of using Google now the battery lasts longer.

on 4.3 my battery lasted ages on 4.4 the only way it gets close is by setting it to device only (GPS). if I stop location completely google search becomes a big wakelock. You must reboot the phone tho or the drain will stay.
So you mean that the only way to stop wasting energy is setting up location to only GPS and reboot? The first entry in the Energy list is the display, Ok that's normal, and the second is Google play services. Is that Google location or what could it be?
Did you activate Google location too?
Google play services was high on my list but since I changed it to GPS only it's no longer there.
I still have Google now and location enabled.
It's worked for me .
Ok I will try that setting. Hope that works for me too.
I know it makes no sense gps saving battery....
Maybe a software bug?
Had similar problem, spoke to an english-second-language tech support and they gave me this script:
This will remove any temporary files that may be causing the problem, but will not delete your files or settings.
1. With the phone powered off, press the VOL DOWN KEY for 2-3 seconds then POWER key then release.
2. The device will display different BOOT OPTIONS
3. Use the VOL DOWN Key to SCROLL to Recovery and VOL UP Key to select
Tip: If the device reboots, you may have waited [too] long to make a selection, you will need to begin the process again.
4. The device will display the Motorola logo and then the Android in distress (logo with Exclamation mark)
5. Press and hold the VOL UP key for 10-15 seconds. While still holding the VOL UP key tap and release the POWER key
Tip: You can try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on step 6, try a force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.
6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear in BLUE)
7. Use the VOL DOWN Key to scroll to wipe cache partition and the POWER Key to select this option
8. The device will then perform the partition wipe
9. The device will reboot and start the normal power up sequence

In Greenify i have the donation version so i put boost mode on and push gcm messages,
I sleep every app that i have installed regardless with the exception of trustgo av and 1weather widget,
Tbh i noticed the big change with AppOpsXposed installed because you can control the APK and turn off permissions which really boosted the battery.
Hi guys
I have a really bad battery life too on my Moto G Dual SIM.
The interesting part is that according to every program I've used to monitor the system usage, there are no problems with my device.
I have almost 98% Deep Sleep. There ate no massive Wake Locks or Partial Wake Locks, my WiFi is almost all the time off.
My problem is that I can barely get 48 hours of Standby with only 20 minutes Screen On time. Yes I have two SIM Cards but compared to my previous Dual SIM phone, this is ridiculous! My previous Dual SIM phone was the Chinese miracle the Jiayu G3. I know that it has a Dual core CPU running at 1GHz, but with a 4.5" LCD Screen, 1GB of RAM and quite powerful speaker, but still it manages to stay alive for 6 to 8 days with its 2750mAh battery. The MediaTek CPU inside the Jiayu G3 is a DualCore Cortex A7. The Snapdragon S400 that is in the Moto G is a QuadCore Cortex A7. It is a more powerful one ok, but in standby both of the CPUs should be using similar power with only one active core most of the time and in DeepSleep. BTW the Jiayu for some reason would almost never go to DeepSleep. It was probably a bug of some kind.
All in All 6 to 8 days with two SIM Cards active and 3G Data nonstop on the Jiayu, compared to the two days from the Moto G..... I think that something is wrong here!
BTW my Moto G is on 4.3 (no 4.4.2 for the Dual SIM versions yet)
I think my problem is solved. I simply deactivated Google location services, now my battery lasts at least one complete day with medium usage. IMHO Google has to send an update to us because there must be a a bug in the software.

Overnight charging wake lock issue? Airplane mode?

OK guys so I have a serious issue with the battery not charging at nights, when I plug my phone in. I frequently wake up to a hot phone with only 35% charge and it's been on the charger for 8+hours.
I have a strong feeling this has something to do with it being on airplane mode... Which by the way I have done for years at bed time with no issues until recently.
I need some help with this because I can't figure it out.
Here are my better battery stats from boot when I wake up and it's still on the charger. (Please note I can't do it from unplugged as the issue is charging)

your wakelocks have nothing to do with it not charging, check your usb chord or charger(use a different chord and charger). when your plugged in, does it say AC or USB?
It says AC and my charging cord is perfectly fine.
LOOK at the battery stats man, it's 2.27GHz while phone is supposed to be sleeping.
In the stats I've posted is the issue, I just need help to figure out which part
Partial WakeLocks audioIn. Maybe with the new Google now has WakeLocks on airplane mode trying to fetch data??
yea, and 55% is way to high. its normal to wake for a minute here and there, but 55% is extreme. reboot your phone, it looks like a stuck process.
Not sure bout the n5 but other phones I've had stay awake whilst charging not deep sleep.
Obviously something is wrong here but I can't see that no deep sleep is the cause.

Took a nap again. While sleeping:
what rom/kernel are you using? havevyou considered a factory reset?
Unusual issue for sure. I'd just fastboot stock on it, and see how it is before installing anything. Rule out hardware. ?
Purity ROM/code blue kernel.
It's certainly not hardware issue because my phone has gained 3-4% in the last 5 minutes while checking this forum and replying to this msg. After a fresh restart with the phone still plugged in, sometimes that gets past the issue.
It has something to do with airplane more and charging I think..although it also wasn't getting past 0% while using phone earlier today without airplane mode.... :s
I'm gonna do have to do a wipe and fresh install of ROM and Kernel
So full wipe and reinstall ROM and Kernel. Problem still exists.
Wakelocks are coming from
Google Search/AudioIn primarily.
I have "ok google" enabled from any screen including lock screen. This may have something to do with it however what's the point in making this a option with Google Now if you can't even charge your phone above 40%.. Due to constant wakelocks..
Either that or it has something to do with Google now trying to use data in combo with AudioIn when airplane mode is on

Clearly.. Understood. I know what it does man..
But if one can't charge their phone with an 1.2A AC adapter during the night over an 8h period.. is this really a viable option to use "OK google" from any screen??
Others with this option enabled are you experiencing charing issues?
Doesn't this phone have a "sub processor" used for this type of activity in order to avoid full CPU usage?
It's using the top CPU freq and I've been trying to figure out this issue for a few weeks now.

Honestly, is it really a useful option to use in the first place, other than for showing off?
The low-powered core in the Nexus 5 is used for a hardware pedometer (ask Google why) rather than for audio listening or music playing capability. Unlocking/modifying it's capability would be diving into legal ramifications without permission. Hence why it uses a wakelock, which in turn makes it useless unless you don't care about battery at all.

I'm not the one to tell you that since I've had it entirely disabled since day one.
It could be that the AudioIn wakelock that Google Search is using also wakes Google Play Services, which then wakes your device even more. Looking at your screenshots in the first post, Google Play Services woke your device "619 times over 13hrs 39mins, 45.3 per hour".
Although not a solution, but using some kind of quiet hours app may appease your need for airplane mode

People that just love this Google now any screen issue are going to have to just accept it's a battery hog. Or get a moto X and have this feature even when the screen is off. No wakelocks and no real battery drain.
As far as having trouble charging, one solution is turning the feature off, charge the phone, then turn it on again.
Google puts features like this out cause of a demand... And they probably don't care if it's hard on the battery. People wanted it and they gave it to them.

Go to Settings -> Power management -> Battery usage to see what is using your battery the most. If you want more help, I would advise you to take a screenshot of that page and post it here. With me, it's normally Chrome or the Screen.
Could you please post your screen on time? You can tap on screen to see what it is.
He said 30 minutes CHARGING for 40% increase...
Anyway, I can't even get my Quick Charger to perform that well so maybe OP should let the battery discharge fully and then charge fully to maybe calibrate the battery.

Oops. Didn't read correctly. Also are you using the charger that came out of the box? I don't think that is quick charge.
Maybe try using a normal charger instead of a quick charger? I don't use quick charge and normally get 4-5 hours SOT.
UCH20 is a "normal" charger. UCH10 is the Sony Quick Charge one but doesn't come with every Z5.

Yeah i don't use the quick charger one
My Z5 came with the quick charger. Made in Taiwan. Perhaps it would be the causes of the battery drain?

I think so.. But it maybe not the main reason why it drained so fast.. it is like when i just using my phone only for 2 minutes it also drain for 2%. What a mess! i don't expected Sony to be like this tbh

Yes i noticed that.. The worst thing is when i just left my phone at screen off.. The battery just decreasing like 3% unused which is why i just so pissed off. I hope sony could fix this thing when comes to marshmallow update. i heard that marshmallow could handle this stuff properly
What about auto sync, and location settings too. Those have an impact on battery drain also. I leave auto sync off,and havw location on battery save mode. It helps. I came from a z3 which had awesome battery life, but I totally agree here about the z5's battery. Hope marshmallow helps.
Will anybody perform a reset after the new marshmallow?
Is it needed?

Your welcome. Ok, go into settings, accounts, and then top right press the 3 dot menu and itshould be there,if it's on it should be checked, just Un check it.
I use an app for toggles called power toggles, and in this app there is a manual sync all button. So when I want to sync(primarily to sync Gmail) I can just press it,and my mail shows up. I could also just go to Gmail and slide screen down to sync.
Hope this helps.
How many hours SOT are you guys getting?

Mine was checked! Deactivated automatic synchronization! Thank you! Also deactivated google location history too!
I'm always running in stamina mode too. I also use extended standby and extended usage both checked. I have run the phone with out stamina and it doesn't perform and better, but the battery drains 2 times faster when not in stamina mode.

That's so true.. It happens to me either. Now i think that Sony phone is quite disappointing for now.. and at the end i hope that they fix this asap next year :3
Make sure wifi scanning even when wifi is off is turned off and put location settings on battery saving (mobile network and wifi only).
Also switch to 2g when not using internet. Switch to 2G voice and text only.
Then you can add a mobile data and 4g toggle on the quick setting toggles and when you want internet press 4g then mobile data, then when finished press mobile data toggle and then turn 4g off and it will go back to 2g.
You should also check in google account that anything you don't need syncing like google music, books, games etc is not syncing.
Fast chargers work fine and won't impact battery life short term. I get 5hours SOT using Galaxy S6 fast charger.

Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the Xiaomi Mi 5's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
If anyone could post the standby drain overnight it would be great. I would like to know how much % is lost during night time....
This one is from mine:

It's 20% over 9 hours, so it's around 2% per hour. Everything is still on: sync (3 email accounts, 7 social media apps), wifi, bluetooth, etc.
I'd really like help with this area, if anyone can give me any advice. If I charge my phone to 100% at night then unplug it, when I wake up in the morning it's down to less than 50%. This is with pretty much nothing on, no wifi, data, bluetooth etc. This happens most of the time, but not all the time (when it doesn't I can get a few days of use out of the phone), and I've yet to identify and fix the exact cause.
Haven't empirically tested, but I seem to get more battery life when in continual use (listening to music off and on, etc), then when resting overnight/for long periods.
I can give any details needed, but I'm using Cyanogenmod 13.0-20160908. Have tried Doze, and GSam (can post any logs if I know what's useful), and Wakelock detector. Would changing roms help?

Hi Khazidhea,
I can tell for sure that it is NOT NORMAL that your phone drains about 7 to 8% of battery life each hour !
Especially if you disconnect Wi-Fi and BT.
The only thing I can think of, is that you are in an area where the phone constantly switches from 3G to 4G to get on the network.
Of course, if you have 2 SIM cards in that phone, that may increase the drain significantly...
I think that if you are on Cyanogen, there is an option in Settings that is called "SIM Cards".
If you select that option, you should be able to have some access to settings for each SIM Card.
Try to select one and look for the option called "Preferred Network" and select something like "WCDMA" or "GSM" (that is 2G in the US and 2G in Europe).
See if that improves...
As far as I am concerned, I run my Xiaomi mi5 with a ROM called "Tipsy-OS" that I have compiled myself...
So far, I am unplugged since 2 hours, have used the phone with 4G, BT, Wi-Fi, automatic updates of apps, mail retrieving, applied themes via substratum... and lost 2%.
So no, 8%/hour without doing anything is NOT NORMAL !
Regards.
I finally ended up fixing this. Simply changing the setting "Preferred network type" from 4G to 3G made my battery usage change from about 2/3 of a day, to up to 4 days, with my typical pattern of usage. Note that when my battery was being drained before I did not have data turned on, so not sure why that ended up being the fix.

If 4G coverage is bad in your area, it will trigger reconnection over and over again, causing battery drain. The protocol itself is indeed more battery consuming in general, but shouldn't have much gap with 3G under the same coverage quality.
% 5 full network bltooth
seems mine 1-2%per hour all sync on, wifi.

I can confirm same here LOS airplane mode = 0am till 6am 100% to 98 or 97 % so at max decrease a 1/2% an hour.
In a non-airplane mode with WiFi connected I get a bit more than 1%/h with greenify activated.
I posted in another thread but i've got no answer.
I decided to switch to Global Dev ROM thinking it might solve my battery issues, but it only got worse, im getting around 40% battery drain overnight. Any ideas???? I don't have mi sync enabled, google play is set to not auto-update apps, i barely use mobile data, so only wifi.

seems like a wakelock, the global dev is the official? Did you install any other app of it's like that after the wipe and flashing? Check for wakelock detector apps in the store

Official Global Dev, so i noticed that "Lite Messenger Facebook" was draining the battery like h3ll, i uninstalled it and now i've been using my phone for an entirely day browsing/email/duolingo and half battery has gone, the way it is going i will have to charge every 2 days or so. In the meantime i might just use facebook messenger through the browser.
Although Global Dev is fine, there are some bugs and MiFit does not want to sign in, i might go back to Global Rom when 8.2 comes out to Mi5.
Thank You!
