One of the functions that use a lot of battery is the data connection.
Using this app you can also save 30% of battery; this means that at the end of the day you can have 30% battery instead of a fully discharged battery.
This application is useful to save battery, data traffic and money, also limit the device radiation and stay in sync.
It allows you to cyclically connect to the Mobile Network or to the Wifi one to synchronize e-mail, appointments, contacts, program data, etc.
With the "Cycle when Screen Off, Connect on Screen On" option Checked you can have Automatic Connection when Screen is On and Cyclically Connection when Screen is Off; you can forget to switch the connections!
You can also delay the termination of the connections when you turn off the screen; this is useful for example when you are using a Chat App and you're waiting for a quick response.

With the "Cyclically connect regardless screen state" option checked you can Cyclically Connect when you are using the device, for example, while you're watching a movie.
If a Wifi connection is available it will take precedence over the Mobile one, to save data traffic and money in case of not-flat rates.
You can also enable sounds and vibration alerts, enable and disable notifications (PRO), set start at the boot, suspend the cycle and enable connections when the device is Plugged, set the type of connection you want when you turn on the screen or the device is Plugged or Unplugged and set the times at which the cycle is suspended.
The application installs some WIDGETS that allows you to activate the cyclic connection or turn on/off quickly the Mobile and Wifi Connections.
To be synchronized and save battery power, for example, set "Activate Data Connection" every 10 minutes and "Keep Data Connection Alive" for 45 seconds.

My Gtab 10.1 has the deep sleep bug when wlan is set to always on.
With this tool I could set settings from wlan to "always off when screen off" and combine it with your tool to get the best benefit out of it.
so it does not work yet with screen off? Will test it as soon as i got home

This is what I was looking for. But I have one question: when it performs check will it wake the device from deep sleep? If so, won't it have opposite result, that it will drain battery faster?
How is this different from what juicedefender does?

You can manually connect to Mobile Data or Wifi using the app widget.

I think it will work because the connection loop wake up for a few seconds the device.

I entered the awakening of the device (still for a few seconds) because on my test device (Galaxy Note 2), unlike the Galaxy S2 where everything works fine even in deep sleep, i could not activate the wifi when the device went into deep sleep.
In the next version will insert an option that will not trigger the awakening.
But I think, if you use some reasonable settings (eg run every 10 minutes - no less) the awakening does not affect consumption of the battery.
However, you can not have everything in life. :laugh:

I do not know JuiceDefender, but from what I've seen on the market quickly, my app is simple, it is only concerned with cyclically activate the connection ... and costs less. :silly:

UPDATE: Potential work arounds for folks having problem in sleep policies not working correctly have been put in version 1.2.0 onwards. Please redownload to test and let me know. Read this for more details.
IMPORTANT: If you are having wi-fi issues in sleep even after using this app, please let me know the following
1. Device/Phone Name and Rom version
2. What is the app version that you have?
3. Did you try all the combinations of various workarounds in the advanced options?
4. Can you please enable logging in the advanced options and send me logcat dump for this duration
I did an app to change the wi-fi sleep policy quickly so that you can control whether wi-fi is disconnected or not whenever screen turns off. What's more is that I also did a widget for it, so you can just tap on it to cycle through the various sleep policies.
I hope this can help some people out who get frustrated when their download breaks off as the screen goes down or worse, it switches to slow and expensive mobile data connection which runs your account balance down in a jiffy before you realize it..

Note: Many would wonder what would be the need of this app when we have a setting for this built-in in android. These are the reasons:
Yes, that is true but as I mentioned earlier in the thread. The reasons to do this app are:
1. Quick access. The setting for this is buried too deep and I wouldn't like to have this set to "never" (e.g.) all the time. I'd like to do it in a tap whenever I'm doing something that doesn't require me to look at the screen but wi-fi needs to be on. You can just tap on the widget and on you go. Otherwise you have most of the settings anyways in Android (for wi-fi/gps/sync/etc), why would you need widgets for them?
2. The android in-built settings don't work always. Although the app provides pretty much the same options to the user as the in-built setting provides but I'm trying to include work-arounds in the back end that would really make it work.

Known Issues:
1) Known issue with “on when plugged in” policy is that if you are already plugged in while changing anything in the app, workarounds don’t take place until you plug out and plug in again
2) This is not a known issue with the app but with wi-fi on some devices itself that it stops working on leaving it idle even if the phone is not sleeping. This is not the purview of this particular app and it might not solve it, although few folks say that this app helps in this scenario as well.
3) Some routers/settings are also known to cause issues with wi-fi in sleep. The correct pattern has not been identified yet but many people report that they can stay connected to wi-fi in sleep with some routers but with other routers, it fails. (Work Around 3 might help in such cases but not always)
4) While adding widget, the main app screen will pop-up for widget configuration. You need to choose any one policy (even if desired one already selected) otherwise widget will not be added

But the "never sleep" option never work for me. For example, with the setting "Never" on, when I tried to transfer file over wifi with SwiFTP, the transfer will stop at the moment the phone screen is off, and I hv to unlock the screen again to resume the transfer. Same thing happens to Market download.
I m running stock nonroot Nexus One Froyo FRF83. Solution for me now is using screebl lite and hold the phone to keep the screen on until the transfer is done... a pain in the ass.....
Just installed and tried the app: I tried copying a 300MB video file from phone to PC over wifi via SwiFTP, the transfer stop a bit after the screen is off, still hv to unlock the screen to allow the transfer continue.... Thanks for the effort though, this is really bugging me and I hope at some point the "never sleep" policy will actually work.
Thanks guys, for trying out the app..yeah this setting is available pretty deep into the menus but my reason of doing this app was:
1. To make it quick (especially through widget)
2. To really make it work..
The first release essentially takes care of the first point.. However to take care of the concerns pointed out, like by lou and flybyme, I'm adding some more workarounds to it to keep wi-fi working.. I'll probably have some more news for you guys around weekend

I have a couple of workarounds that are working.. but I still need to do a lot of work to make them optimal. Will be released soon in 1.2.0
The other thing that compounds the problem is that apart from the phone itself, there is a lot dependent on the routers as well.. That part I'm still trying to figure out a workaround for..

Your right, this is a standard feature android has had for a long time. Basically going to setting>wireless & networks>Wi-Fi settings>press menu> select advanced>Wi-Fi sleep policy> select from these options "when screen turns off", "never when plugged in", "never"
Of course by selecting "never" your wifi never disconnects while your phone sleeps.

Yes, that would work but:
1. It won't work for times when your phone is not plugged
2. It slows down the charging rate

Actually it works perfectly fine for me. At work I have it set to Airplane mode but with Wifi on. I still receive all my Google Talk, Emails, etc just fine with the screen off.

+1 here with that Problem on Nexus One.
I tried many ROMs (CM, MCR......), every Radio and some "WiFi Alive"-Apps on the Market (They are developed for Android 1.5) and NOTHING changed the Situtation:
Music-Streams always disconnect when the Phone goes into Stand-by. It's horrible. There are some Posts from different People about this Problem in the ROM-Threads from Cyanogen & Co but it seems most of the People dont have this Issue so its not recognized by the Devs?

Okay created a simple app for my own use that i'm not yet sure if it will extend battery life since I just finished it today and will do the testing tomorrow!
Concept on What It Does?
- If your display screen is off, it toggles the mobile data to turn on/off every few minutes.
- If the display is on, then it wont turn the data on/off
- It detects if 2g/3g/4g is on as well
What's the difference between this and tons of applications out there that turns off the automatically turns off the data when the screen is off?
- I have unlimited internet bandwidth on my phone but limited battery life. I rely on the internet for my instant messaging and work emails. If I use one of those applications that turns off the data when the screen is off, then technically I wont be able to receive those emails until I turn on the screen. That's how the idea of creating Auto Data came from. Basically I want to be able to receive messages while the screen is off without heavy battery usage.
- As I have yet to do actual field testing I'm not sure if it will extend or drain the battery! - Well at least that was my idea

Battery Still Draining Fast?
If you flashed a new ROM, you have to give it a few charge cycles in order for the battery to normalized and be calibrated. Usually, 3 - 4 full charge cycles before you'd notice the difference.

Few ideas for your app.
- Adding data on interval settings 5mins / 10mins / 20mins / 30mins
- Option to remove Status bar icons, too many apps have these and they clutter up the notification tray and some are ugly and ruin peoples UI's that they have spent time building. ( I my self run Slimmed down ICS, no System tray App notifications but core systems ones and i avoid coloured icons at all costs )

- Profile so that during set hours it switches on WIFI, so people who work 9till5 can save data during work hours but not have to worry when home because they can connect to their home wifi using a set time. basically, it switches to 2G when the screen is off, and back on when the screen is on; or you can set if the phone is connected to charger, say on 3G at all times..really useful!

Edit: you can also provide a white list option, for some apps, so that they always use 3g no matter what
On my fascinate with aokp m6, even when the screen is on, it turns the data off. It not always happen, but its randoms. After that i should manually turn on the data.

Auto Pilot Mode
Current Version: 8.00
Auto Pilot Mode is a very lightweight tool to enable airplane mode. Battery rapidly drained when the phone is out of service/signal and tried to search for a signal to use. In order to prevent this battery drain, Auto Pilot Mode will detect when the signal is below a certain threshold. Once this threshold is met, airplane mode will be turned on for a specified amount of time. After this time, airplane mode is disabled and the checking process repeats.
Settings/Features Explained
Scheduling System - Automatically changes thresholds and times according to a schedule set by you (Great for when you sleep)
Threshold - This slider will determine the threshold of the signal. If the signal falls at or below this threshold, airplane mode is put into queue.
Pending Time - Specifies how long airplane mode is in queue for after the signal falls below threshold.
Airplane Time - Specifies how long airplane mode should be enabled before performing another check.
3G/4G Basic Detection - First step toward mobile data support, checks whether you are connected to a network or not
Ignore If Charging - If the phone is charging, ignore the status of signal and never enable airplane mode
Only Disable Cell Service - When airplane mode is enabled, WiFi, Bluetooth, and all other forms of communication are untouched
Start on Boot - Start the service automatically when the phone boots on.
Prevent Call Drop - If you are receiving or initialing a call, the service is paused and airplane mode is not toggled until the call is finished.
Maintain User Airplane Mode - Keeps user toggled airplane mode until user manually disables airplane mode.
Hide Status Bar Icon - Hides the icon in the status bar
Remove Notification Buttons - Removes buttons from the notification
Display More Info In Notifications - Adds more information to the notification

not saying Google is or isn't... but I find it funny that people are so afraid of Google yet they have a Google based phone...
4G LTE
Any plans to add 4G/LTE support? The app seems to work great except when I'm connected to LTE. It seems to think I am out of service and enables airplane mode even when my LTE reception is great. On a Moto X on AT&T. Also the Moto X uses on screen keys, your app states that there is a menu but I can not access it as you don't have the 3 dots or hamburger menu for people without that key.

In my mind Google has become evil, Everywhere I travel, Google shuts down my Gmail account until I manually log in and admit that I am in that location. I don't think I am on any Govt surveillance list. Here is the latest mail I got from them, just a few days ago:

Very interesting app !! Indeed one of those functionalities that really should have come pre-built in the OS.
I have just installed it, and thus haven't had a chance to test it myself - although I have no doubt it will work as advertised.
A few ideas for improvement come to mind immediately though:
1.) As others have already asked: an option to remove the status bar icon. Also, when an icon is present in the status bar and thus there is an entry in the notification queue, tapping on the notification message should have some useful purpose, like opening the app. Currently, tapping on the notification message doesn't seem to be doing anything.
2.) As others also have noted: for a user, it is a bit unclear what would be good threshold values. We rely on the developer to provide us with sensible initial/default values. Are GSM:3 and CDMA:-113 the best choices ? If so, it might be good to indicate in the app description that the app comes with sensible defaults. Also, a "restore thresholds to default values" button or menu item might be a useful addition.
3.) The option to restore WiFi is a nice bonus. However, the underlying issue is that the problem the app wants to address really doesn't require Airplane Mode, strictly speaking it only requires the cell radio to be shut down.
a.) Why would you even want to do that ? One might be in an area with really bad cell service, but still have access to a WiFi network (e.g. in a hotel in a very remote area, but even in cities: my battery sometimes drains just from being in a building with a special type of walls).
b.) And is it even technically possible ? This app (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=the.radioshutoff) is able to do it, and I can personally vouch that it works as advertised. Note that it may not be possible on all devices, as I suspect the different radios are integrated tighter in some devices than in others. That probably accounts for the very dichotomous ratings for that app.
Do you think you could implement this into your app ? The downside is that you might have to rename it ...
Anyway, this seems like a very useful little app with a lot of potential. Thanks for releasing it !! :good:
I have being using this for a few hours and it seems to be working well at switching to aeroplane mode when the mobile signal is poor.
However it also seems to have switched off my wifi on a couple of occasions. Anyone else encounter this?

I have debated whether to implement this on release and now that there has been a lot of talk, I will add an option to remove the icon on the status bar. I initially hoped to keep the icon there to remind users the app/service is running.

It has become clear to me that my app is a little on the confusing side. The CDMA Threshold slider is measured in -dBm, I just removed the "-". Also, the app does run in the background. Although it is considered "Perceptible", if Android is running low on memory and stops Auto Pilot Mode to release memory, Auto Pilot Mode will be able to automatically restart after memory becomes available by Android; however, I will look into checking the status of the app.

Adding this app as an apk file to this thread will not help in future releases because I will be implementing Google's In-App Purchasing. It is required for the user to be linked to their Google Account in order to purchase from an app.

It is impossible to search for a signal if Airplane Mode is enabled. Airplane mode disables all communication radios and does not receive or send any information.

My testing has been limited to only 2G, however, I will try my best to implement 3G and 4G detection as soon as possible. I will also add a menu button to the app.

Android versions above 4.1 should open the app when you touch the notification and not the buttons. Android versions 4.1 and below should toggle the service on and off if the notification is touched because there is not support for buttons in notifications until Android 4.2+. I has quickly come known to me that my app is rather confusing. I will attempt to write a more in-depth description and have an tutorial option in the menu. Lastly, I will look into better ways to implement what I am trying to do in a more effective manner.

The "Recover WiFi" option will only re-enable wifi if the wifi was on before airplane mode was enabled. If this isn't happening, send me an email with more information regarding your situation.

Your last sentence is an understandable concern, but the reality is that this kind of app ideally is one of those set-and-forget services. Many users (especially the kind that can be found on XDA) may have up to 10 of those apps/services running and icons for all of them would drawn out the true notifications. Even on a desktop PC, where there is much more screen estate, Windows 7 has the option to hide individual status bar icons. Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings there

I installed it on a phone with 4.0 ICS and indeed, touching the notification toggles the services, I simply didn't notice it before. Would it be difficult to implement that upon toggling, the icon changes color ? e.g. a gray icon when the service isn't running. That might be a useful improvement for those wishing to keep the notification icon.
I have problems with Stamina Mode. It doesn't work for majority of the apps. Meaning, even if I don't whitelist an app in the stamina mode, their notifications shows up and they send/receive data: Pushbullet, Gmail, Twitter are only few examples.
Is this the case for any of you?

Stamina Mod doesn't mean blocking All Activities & Services of Apps.
It will just limit some activities & learning to limit more or less.
+ If you want to disable notifications you can check Notification Center
Setting > Personalization > Manager Notifications
+ If you want more restriction on Apps download also Battery Guru

Yes. It isn't working as it should.
Hopefully Sony will sort it out and make it work as it does on the Z1 and Z2.
An example being the fact that 3G and WiFi are not disabled when the screen is off.

Same case with the Z3 compact.
Will test mine later - although one good thing about this is when it is fixed the battery may be even better!

For wifi to be disabled while screen is off go to WiFi settings, advanced, keep WiFi on during sleep sleep and change it to only when plugged in or never.
Also to save more battery you should untick "Scanning always available"
Ok, i've noticed that while stamina mode does not appear to turn off Wifi, it does stop my Gmail from syncing until I turn on the screen.
Another thing stamina mode will do is permanently disable mobile until you clear data of eco mode controller and restart. It doesn't happen all the time but it did to me yesterday. I've only had the phone 4 days so it's not a good sign!

WiFi and Data, if manually turned on, must remain on so that they are available for any apps that are added to the Active In Standby list within Stamina Mode.
So Stamina Mode doesn't "turn off' WiFi or Data per se. It merely blocks apps from connecting, among other things, as long as they're not in the Active In Standby list.
This is only based on my observation. I could be wrong, but don't think I am.
However, if your devices are still syncing and updating with the screen off and unplugged and Stamina Mode activated, that is not normal behavior and something is wrong.

I have nothing in the whitelist so all apps should be blocked from syncing etc. But Telegram app keeps notifying me of new messages instantly while in stamina mode. Heck I never actually use battery saving modes or apps on any of my phones because they effectively cripple the 'smart' features of my smartphone and this Z3 is a battery beast in any case scenario. I just wanted to see what more this beast can do in stamina mode and realised it doesn't actually work.

Hmm. Stamina Mode historically kicked in after 1 minute of screen off time. It was Extended Standby Mode that kicked in after 15 minutes.
I suppose it is possible that it has been changed to 15 minutes though. But why would they?
I've tried to wait 15min and also half an hour. Still not working! The 15 minutes seems strange though, on my wifes Z1 compact stamina mode works straight away from the moment she turnes off the screen.......
I've been in touch with sony trhough facebook, still haven't found the answer. But he said it was very strange. I haven't got a reply about what to do yet.

That's strange, it should appear right below "Email".

I don't know if people already know this, maybe it was already in S6 but I didn't get the S6 so this is new for me. Anyway it's really useful although not for its primary function. Basically it's an edge panel/widget that shows 4 app shortcuts you can have and changes based on your location. The cool thing is it can also change settings like put your phone to vibrate or turn off Wifi. I'm sure there are third-party apps that do this as this is Android, but I've always been somewhat of a purist, I'd use stock as much as possible because there is no ad and no additional background power drain etc..

Yep. I use this and really like it.
Same here, I use this and find it really useful. I have things such as turn on mute, and turn off WiFi when I get to work, or turn on Bluetooth when I get to the gym for my headphones. It's by far the most useful edge feature in my eyes.
I'm not overly impressed by the other edge features, it's just a pretty screen really for me. The only other edge feature I really use is the data one, as it's a nice shortcut for checking usage. It's implemented quite well.
I wonder if you can get Tasker to switch between the different locations, meaning it would be a lot simpler to set up. I've got my Tasker set up to do all these things based on certain times and days and I love it.
I'd really like to use this, but it always thinks I'm out and about. Anyone willing to try and help me troubleshoot?
I have location services on and set to high quality.
The home location is set, and correctly detects my address and shows the right location on the map.
Every time I slide the panel on screen, it shows the out and about location.

I'm just trying this out now. Is it only me or is it really not that user friendly to get your way around? I can't actually see a way to select the profile you want. I'm at work so put the address in and presumably it locates the phone via GPS and selects my work profile by itself?
It's selected the 'Out and about' profile and I can't see a way to change it.
Anybody happen to know a way to turn off wifi when out and about is selected? Does not seem to have a profile option just selected apps.
While I do use "My Places" widget (and love it!) I use an app called "Wi-Fi Matic" to control my wifi.
It works by detecting cell towers in the area(s) you set it to turn on your wifi, and then it automatically turns it off when you leave said area(s).
So for example, when I get near home it detects one of the various towers in that area (I think it recognizes about 15 towers near my home) and turns on my wifi. By the time I walk in my house it's auto connected to my wifi. Once I leave for work, I get maybe 5 minutes down the road, and it turns my wifi off all day until I get near home again. You can also set multiple locations where you want it to turn on (my brother's house, my dad's, etc). I think the app was $1.99 when I bought it something like 3 years ago. Dev keeps it updated and will address an issues you might have (although I have never had one).
It's the best wifi control app I've ever used. And I've tried a few. Zero battery impact, because it uses the cell connection to check connected towers, I have mine set to 15 minute intervals and it never shows up in my battery stats.

Not based on tower connectivity (that I know of)
However, in the Wi-Fi Matic app, you can go into advanced settings and turn on "disable mobile data when connected to known wifi"
That may be useful to you.
Mine doesn't like to change to out and about, like, ever. I leave work and have to turn the ringer volume back up manually (soooo hard I know ). Anyway, I do dig it either way. Like that I can walk into work and have my phone ringer not go off because I forgot to silence it.
Macrodroid is also great for this stuff...free for five macros, can do almost anything, beautifully simple UI, just an excellent app. Wife's using it to toggle Wi-Fi off at work.
I use it on my phone, and also her phone, to automatically set Bluetooth media volume to maximum when connected to any Bluetooth device. That avoids the dreaded volume warning that pops up when you try and set your Bluetooth volume to max when connected to Bluetooth. That alone is worth it's weight in gold.

I found it ; enable the side panel menu(S7 edge only)
Add the respective 'locations' menu (by tick to add the bar menu)

I think LLama is better at location based audio/settings - profile control. its nice on the battery as it uses the cell tower IDs as location instead of wifi and/or gps.
Its very simple to use and nearly as powerful as Tasker.
1) setup all the profiles you would like to use - e.g WORK profile sets, ringer and alarm sound level to 4, ringtone change, wallpaper change, wifi off, bluetooth on, etc.
2) when at work, select learn this area for set time and it will record all the cell towers as you move around your work place.
3) create an event that when you enter your work Area, it triggers the WORK profile, then disables it when you leave.
There is heaps more features. Been using it for so long its very stable and doesn't drain the battery.
