Hi -
I recently installed Cyanogenmod 11 on my Nexus 5 and many of my video playbacks are either crashing out to a black screen, however often I am finding a green flicker on video's.
I have tried using a few different video applications (avia, mxplayer, and the stock video player) with similar issues. When it goes black, I can hear the sound but no video.
Is this an issue with CM? Are there currently any work arounds if it is?
Thanks.
Why not ask in the Rom thread? Or read the last few pages of the thread....If it's an issue, it would be being discussed.
It is a CM issue.
And what @KJ said.

Hulu Plus is having issues on my P5113 device running custom ROMs, however, the issue is not present when running ICS or jellybean stock roms.
What's happening is that the video will basically shrink down to a half inch bar as is visible in the attached photo. The issue will persist until Hulu is either minimized or it switches to commercials, after which point the video playback will appear normal for a few moments and then the issue will return.
Ive tried all sorts of different ROMs: CM, PA, AOKP, but the issue occurs on all of them. I have also tried tinkering with some of the developer options like forcing GPU playback and disabling HW overlays, but nothing has worked. I am currently running the latest version of hulu available from the Play store, but i have also tried older versions. BTW, there are no sound issues and this issue does not occur in other video playback apps such as Netflix.
I tried searching for this problem, but did not come up with anything. Is anyone else out there having this same issue, or does anyone know what might solve the problem?
Thanks for your help!

Having the same issue here, on my p3113 running cm 10.1. I installed the modded hulu from the posdt above, but the video quality in the app is terrible. Unless I'm doing something wrong? Any help would be awesome as I love this ROM, but really love hulu more haha.

Everything is stock on my phone and I'm running YouTube 5.2.27 with the new KitKat OS. I'm experiencing a bit of stutter/jitter when playing videos on YouTube in both low and high quality. The motion of the video isn't quite fluid. When playing the same vids through Freedi YT player or through the browser, I don' t see this issue at all but I love watching vids on the app the most, but can't stand the stutter.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issues? Sorry if this has been answered, I just couldn't find anything about it asides from the thread above me.
Having the same trouble, any solutions?

Are you running on 3G, LTE, Wifi? and it has to do with the version of youtube. Currently unnoticed with Franco kernel but may have somthing to do with the release build. Try clearing data/cache to see if that works. If not, uninstall the updates to factory to see if problem persists since that version. Reinstall again and try that as well.

Hey,
So I'm on a stock 5.1.1 and updated to the latest Google Photos version, which I think screws with my devices HW acceleration. Basically , after updating I can't watch any HD videos without the frames stuttering, the screen sometimes blacks out in middle of viewing videos as well. Searching around I found that more people experience this, but it isn't that widespread. The problem goes away if I revert the update. Any help for additional workarounds would be appreciated.
Thanks
I was able to find another solution to this. With the latest photos app running, I went in to developer options and switched from NuPlayer to AwesomePlayer making things working smoothly again when playing videos.
If anybody can check what player they're running after updating the app and tell me if they experience video playback stutter with it, I'd appreciate it.
Seems like Google switched between default players on the different OS updates, I'm wondering if they've done the same and it didn't register or something.
Thanks.

This worked for me also. Nice to see confirmation.
I seem to get weird screen artifacts when trying to watch360° YouTube videos using Google Cardboard. The 360° videos work fine in normal viewing mode (i.e can look around fine by moving phone) but as soon as I hit the cardboard icon to switch to 'cardboard mode' (split screen video), the video has strange starburst artifacts.
It's fine when the phone is on a flat surface (looking down) but when you look up or around the artifacts appear.
I have uploaded a screen recording of the problem to YouTube but can't seem to embed video (or direct link) as a new user of these forums. Use the URL below to view:

Android version: 6.0

Anyone else have the same problem?
found this thread through google and also saw you posted on Reddit. Having the exact same issue with a Samsung Note 5 and newest Youtube

Well it's the weirdest thing but it is no longer occurring for me! I'm not sure what has changed, Android & YouTube app version are the same. I did fine tune my cardboard settings by creating a custom QR code at:
google.co.uk/get/cardboard/viewerprofilegenerator
but I had already tried that a couple of times before and it didn't fix my problems (though it did seem to reduce severity of artifacts). Perhaps I just stumbled across the correct config 3rd time around? the default config that came with QR on the cardboard version I bought was terrible – double vision etc.
Same problem here with a Galaxy S6 and a BoboVR Z4 headset. The weirdest thing is that I started to see these screen artifacts just a few weeks ago, for no apparent reason. Everything had been working fine for me on Youtube 360° videos until then. By the way, I've tried several different profiles (QR codes), to no avail.
Same problem here with a Galaxy Note 5 & Dream Vision Pro I'm going to try some of the previous APK's of Youtube to see if I can get one working. It sounds like Youtube went and fixed something that wasn't broken again. Anyone else have the Magnet button stop working as well?
After a recent update of the app, I'm not noticing these screen artifacts anymore. Looks like it's been fixed.

Same Here
So basically, when I watch videos in the YouTube app on my XZs the video will play fine for a few seconds and after that it becomes horrendously laggy and stuttery. A quick fix is to just reload the app by turning the phone on and off again but this doesn't fix the issue in the long run. I haven't had experiences like this on any other apps, at least not to this scale.
Using a modded YouTube app like YouTube Vanced doesn't solve the issue either, so the issue probably lies within the app, but seeing as no one else on the internet seems to have the same issue it might have something to do with my particular phone as well.
The ROM I'm using is the AOSP 8.1 from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xzs/how-to/aosp-xperia-xzs-g8232-8-1-t3834174
however I've had the same issue while used OmniROM as well. It's also rooted with Magisk.
Fixes anyone?
