Hi,
Typically you cannot launch the secret codes on Verizon devices. You have to enable the HiddenMenu (required root) to enter secret codes.
By using Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app or Shortcut Master app, you can easily launch any secret code without enabling the HiddenMenu.
Just open app > Menu > 'Secret Codes' > select the secret code to launch (root also required).
Cheers.
okey, thank you for sharing

Codes to access the programming functions on your phone. Dangerous area if you do not know what you are doing. Some codes though are harmless like usually one for LED test, and other test functions...but some program bands that your phone uses, how data is received. Here is a quick idea: http://www.redmondpie.com/hidden-an...msung-htc-motorola-sony-lg-and-other-devices/

Thanks Kenny! I guess I didn't know the terms 'special codes'. I knew about these, just always referred to them as USSD codes.

USSD codes and those secret codes are different things.
USSD codes: these codes are belong to the mobile network, not to your device. So you have to press Call button to send it to the network (e.g. *101# <CALL> to check for the balance in your account).
Secret codes: these codes reside on your device, and no need to press the Call button (e.g. *#06# for IMEI, *#0*# for hardware test on Samsung phone. No need to press Call button after these codes).

- Do these codes exist in the Secret Codes menu?
- Do you have root? Are you using the stock firmware?
- Did you try to open them with the 'Launch 0' option?
Not rooted, stock phone from Verizon, how do I do the launch 0?

Oh no, you need root for it to work, sorry. It is due to Samsung's security policy.
On device from another brands it may work without root access (use Launch 1 method). But on Samsung devices you should use Launch 0 method (that requires root).
I have a question for anyone that might be able to answer. I flashed a bad TWRP or ROM along the way and the touch calibration is really off for the bottom of the screen (the phone seems calibrated now for a 4.5 to 5 inch phone now). I've read every thread possible on how to fix a calibration issue. I have ....factory reset / wiped all internal storage / wiped everything except USB thing / flashed correct TWRP / flashed correct rom and firmware. I'm now on Resurrection Remix 7.1.1 which is awesome except the screen is not calibrated for touch. For the S-Pen works perfectly anywhere on the screen which is life saving.
I've tried to run a several APK's that promised to calibrate the screen. No luck. Then I saw a video where someone had the same problem as me on Youtube. Apparently the guy did the same thing as me and used Secret Codes to fix it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rh7zeqGm7Q
However, Samsung's "secret codes" don't work (Verizon) from the dialer, I've tried Shortcut Master (App), Samsung Phone Info (App) and apparently they don't seem to be able to make any of the old secret code menus appear which I've been told will help fix the calibration. From what I've gathered, I may have to downgrade to a stock developer edition rom (touchwiz) for the dialer pad to be able to key in secret codes to be able to service the touch screen calibration. Can anyone confirm that? I assume downgrading is possible from this.....can anyone recommend a correct ROM for me to downgrade to that is stock/touchwiz but friendly for the developer edition? Hopefully this is posted in the right place, otherwise I will copy it and save it and the moderator move/delete it. Thank you!
On custom ROM, the rom's creator may removed secret codes, that's why the secret codes don't work.
You need to use the "Secret Codes" menu in the above mentioned apps (Shortcut Master or Phone INFO Samsung) to check if the codes are available in the device.

I'm running 6.01 rooted on my Note 4 and those codes still don't work.
anyway to run secret codes on verizon without root? I wonder why verizon is so strict, cant run any tests, retrieve IMEI, not a single dialer code works. s8 or s10. yet other carriers no problem. I guess i'll trade off having access to secret codes for sim being already unlocked

Very nice stuff, maybe it can be used on the development of other apps... it has the control of the type of networks and other things..
Not being an expert I've a question.. what is the smsc???
Edit: I pushed the refresh and came out a service number from my network provider.. I'll check where is from and I'll inform it!
Edit 2: Upss.. Google know's everything.. Short message service center!
*#06# Display IMEI
*#*#8351#*#* Voice Dialer Logging Enabled
*#*#8350#*#* Voice Dialer Logging Disabled
*#*#4636#*#* Phone Setting
*#*#7262626#*#* FieldTest
found them here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447910
Very nice stuff indeed. Thanks.
Some of the settings that this code allows you to change/view are also available using the Spare Parts app from the Market.

First I was going to bet that who discovered this it was you..
..but, it was too far guess.. it was haykuro All the best to both
Edit: I went directly to the header and to the code.. sorry "Props to zinx"!!!
First time poster, long time xda user here. I stumbled across a discovery regarding the "hidden menus" normally accessed by dialer codes. I haven't seen it posted ever and all the programs I've seen take you directly to the dialer and enter the codes, so forgive me if this is already known info.
It appears these hidden menus are directly executable.
What I did: Using LauncherPro I changed what one of the dock Icons linked to using LauncherPro "activities" This takes you to a list of what appears to be ALL of the phons functions, one of which is the hidden menu apps. You can add these to your dock and a normal press on them will bring you to that menu without having to enter the dialer codes. Some of them don't work if they run direct functions like lcd tests but you CAN access the menus for then and run them from there.
I was only able to test a few but I know for sure you can access the debug menu and info menu this way. You still have to enter your MSL for protected functions but this is easier than remembering dialing codes. I would Imagine that this means they are also executable if you can find their links in root explorer etc.
I haven't had a chance to play around with all of the "activites" listed but there are many interesting links in the menu.

A little update it appears you CAN bypass MSL entry normaly required for some of the screens. Most notably the multimedia menu can be accessed without it so now you can disable media filtering without your MSL!

That's kinda cool. Wonder what korea mode does? I would try but don't want to get my phone stuck in korean to where I can't do anything.
I was aware of this but didn't share, I figured everyone already knew. It's fun to mess around in the hidden menus but I didn't actually do anything.
A good activity shortcut that I like is to make VideoPlayer Videolist a shortcut. It gives instant access to the movies .
If you don't like Launcher Pro, You can get the same stuff in ADW too.

Yeah, I wasn't completely sure, it seemed simple enough but considering they put the dialer code thread in the wiki it seemed maybe it was just SO simple it was overlooked. In any event I'm pretty sure no one said anything about being able to access MSL restricted service screens without your MSL so hopefully that will help someone.
I don't know if anybody cares you can get your msl by doing a getprop cammand from the shell. Look for rsi.MSL followed by your MSL number
i still cant access these menus by dialing the #s in
ive tried multiple times, stock rom an rooted..

What do you want to use the letters for?
The dialer is the dialer for phone calls, it requires numbers to make a call. The letters are a hold-over on all phones from when your number was something like Klondike3-4632.
first thanks for your answer.but we have some USSD and secret codes for the phone that contains letters. also if they are not functioning then why are they in the Daimler screen

What is USSD?
What secret codes for the phone require you type an actual letter in the dialer?
What phone lets you type an actual letter in the dialer? I've not noticed one, but I've never really looked into it.
They're there because all phones have them; some people and companies use letters to give out their phone number instead of all numbers: example, the local radio station tells you to call 800-777-KBIG; the KBIG aren't actual letters though, they're just an easy way to remember the phone number, and you would push 5244 on the actual phone by reading the letters on it. I even do this with my personal Google Voice number; I was lucky enough to be able to get one that actually spells my last name, so I just tell people to dial my last name and they easily remember the number.
You're the first person I've ever seen question this. Maybe we can both learn something here.
first the secret code is *#*#checkin#*#* to search for updates.
seconmd the USSD Unstructured Supplementary Service Data depending on the service provider
third the phone that can do this is xperia x10i with android 1.6
finally thanks

See distortedloop's post again. The "code" you're talking about should be typed using the appropriate numbers based on the letters shown on the keypad. They don't have to show up as letters.

Like @kaimyn says...REREAD my post.
*#*#checkin#*#* doesn't require you to input the letters! Those letters are, just as described above, a way to make it easier for you to remember the secret code. You just replace each letter with the number on dialer keypad that shows that letter.
In other words the ACTUAL secret code to checkin isn't *#*#checkin#*#* it is *#*#2432546#*#*. Try it and see.
As for USSD, never heard of it, so can't help you there.
I'm fairly certain that with the stock dialer you cannot do what you're asking. Maybe some third party replacement dialer from the Market can do what you're after.
Btw, *#*#checkin#*#* and *#*#info#*#* are NOT USSD codes. They're just secret codes on Android. USSD codes are those codes AT&T and T-Mobile uses that you can get your bill balance, text used, minutes used. Example USSD code is #MIN#, #BAL# for T-Mobile.
And typing USSD codes is the same way, type the number that corresponds to the letter.
#MIN# = #646#

hi
as u all know theres secret code on the dialer that u can dial and: show ur imei\reset phone\hard reset and such.
im looking for method that LOCK my device to ALL of the codes (including showing my imei by *#06# and such...) - does anyone know how to do it?
im with stock rom 4/3 +root
tnx guys
Search safe to remove spreadsheet on this subforum, you can remove it via Titanium Backup.
You do know most of the info from secret codes can be accessed in different ways?
Like your IMEI number shows in about device/status and there are many programs on google play that will do most of those functions as well.
delete all the "test" apps and factorymode stuff. (also delete CSC, preconfig and everything that has the same icon as those 2)
I did this on my phone (debloating hardcore mode) and now none of the magic codes work anymore - but yea the info is still there to see.
Even XPrivacy cannot hide the imei (anymore...)...
Wouldn't this then be like putting steel bars on the windows and leaving front door open?

Because I'm tired of hiding my device every time I come to visit the parents- fear that my little brother (that decided 2 himself that he is android-developer) and already ruined his S4 - will destroy my device too.

Have you updated your firmware at all? It might have changed in an update.
Do you have root? Because you can access service mode without the dialler in any case with root instead. That might help in the meantime.

There are several ways, you don't even need root. The most user friendly way is via one of the many custom launchers on the Play Store.
Any launcher that allows you to run activities will do.
As an example I'll use the most popular one, Nova Launcher:
1) Long press on the homescreen.
2) Press on Widgets
3) Press on Activities
4) Scroll down to Camera Test
5) Press on CameraFirmware Standard (com.sec.android.app.camerafirmware.CameraFirmware). If you long press it'll open up instead of creating a shortcut on the homescreen
6) Once open, click on ISP VER CHECK to check the version. The Rear Camera will start with SONY if a Sony sensor or SLSI if a Samsung sensor. The front camera will always be a Samsung so it'll start with SLSI.
