Hidden Menu (dialer code) discovery - Epic 4G Android Development

First time poster, long time xda user here. I stumbled across a discovery regarding the "hidden menus" normally accessed by dialer codes. I haven't seen it posted ever and all the programs I've seen take you directly to the dialer and enter the codes, so forgive me if this is already known info.
It appears these hidden menus are directly executable.
What I did: Using LauncherPro I changed what one of the dock Icons linked to using LauncherPro "activities" This takes you to a list of what appears to be ALL of the phons functions, one of which is the hidden menu apps. You can add these to your dock and a normal press on them will bring you to that menu without having to enter the dialer codes. Some of them don't work if they run direct functions like lcd tests but you CAN access the menus for then and run them from there.
I was only able to test a few but I know for sure you can access the debug menu and info menu this way. You still have to enter your MSL for protected functions but this is easier than remembering dialing codes. I would Imagine that this means they are also executable if you can find their links in root explorer etc.
I haven't had a chance to play around with all of the "activites" listed but there are many interesting links in the menu.

A little update it appears you CAN bypass MSL entry normaly required for some of the screens. Most notably the multimedia menu can be accessed without it so now you can disable media filtering without your MSL!

That's kinda cool. Wonder what korea mode does? I would try but don't want to get my phone stuck in korean to where I can't do anything.

I was aware of this but didn't share, I figured everyone already knew. It's fun to mess around in the hidden menus but I didn't actually do anything.
A good activity shortcut that I like is to make VideoPlayer Videolist a shortcut. It gives instant access to the movies .

If you don't like Launcher Pro, You can get the same stuff in ADW too.

Yeah, I wasn't completely sure, it seemed simple enough but considering they put the dialer code thread in the wiki it seemed maybe it was just SO simple it was overlooked. In any event I'm pretty sure no one said anything about being able to access MSL restricted service screens without your MSL so hopefully that will help someone.

I don't know if anybody cares you can get your msl by doing a getprop cammand from the shell. Look for rsi.MSL followed by your MSL number

i still cant access these menus by dialing the #s in
ive tried multiple times, stock rom an rooted..
nothing..
n00b status right now

Just do getprop ril.MSL
It'll return just the number.

Returning to middle of listing?

Lo all, great phone this, I really like it.
One thing that bothers me though:
When using a listing like the WMphonebook, when I scroll down and select an entry and accidentally press the one next to it and then press "return" I'm at the top of the PB-list again. Meh.
Anyone know a tweak or program to make it remember the last position in a long listing? Both Phonebook and filelistings would be useful f ex.
Also has anyone got a way to Cut/paste w/out an extra program or do i need a separate program for that? Try f ex copying a phonenumber from Contacts list and try pasting it into another application.
Cheers beforehand,
Paul

i do this by switching to WinMobile standard keybord and Ctrl+X, C, V
Cheers, how can I switch to the standard windows keyboard? Only got the numbers and the Qwerty ones?
After looking alot around the net I found Fingerkeyboard which gives a nice layout keyboard and Cut/paste-functionality wherever there is a SIP.
Can recommend it.

Somehow I can't seem to find the Question mark on iot though.
Still It can be fixed.
Anyone found a solution to returning to the same spot in listings?
Bump anyone?

Best answer I could find, and it makes sense:
This isn't possible from an OS level. That share menu is populated by Android based on what apps you've installed declare they can open. You can look at the technical details here, but the end result is that without extra coding from each individual app to filter the results, you are always going to get the full list in whatever order Android returns them in.

Basically in the apps code somewhere it states that it has the ability to use the Share function, so it's automatically added. Without removing the code or removing the app altogether, Android sees the app and adds it. Might be something someone a lot smarter than myself would be able to write an app that manipulates this somehow. But from what I'm seeing it hasn't been done.
thanks man, its ok if just cant be done, everything has limitations...
Would it be possible to have a separate share app that lets you add options (like "SMS to Bob") as well as hide some of the defaults? That app itself could be registered as a "sharing" app (maybe sorting to the top of the list?) or could be launched individually. So a process flow could be to launch this share app, load up the gallery, choose the photo, choose the destination. And that process would be just as convenient as launching the gallery, choosing the photo, selecting to share, and selecting the destination. Same number of steps.

[Q] Person tile

Ok. So my grandfather is a tech freak and he asked me to find him a good touchscreen phone, so I thought that WP7 would be a good choice for someone of his age because the size of the tiles...
He uses his phone only to make phone calls and to add/edit contacts. Maybe read (not write) a message once a week...
That's why I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there is an app/tweak that would allow me to add a tile that would work as a direct CALL shortcut to a person it is linked to? The way Android and jailbroken iOS do...
Thanks in advance...
You can pin contacts to your homescreen.

You don't need to jailbreak the phone to do this.
Go to your contact list. Tap on the person you want to have on the home screen and you will find three buttons at the bottom. Click on the 'pin' button and you will have that person on your home screen! Simples.
EDIT; I meant you don't need to jailbreak 'a windows phone' to do this
And this might be better off in Question & Answers section.
To add to this also, you can make a group and pin it also to the screen, like "Family". When you click on the group it will only show those that you placed in it which you can click on to call, text ec.

Thanks for the replies. I saw earlier on a youtube video what you were referring to about pinning a person...
But I didn't get a reply on one thing... Can that tile be used as a direct call shortcut? Without it opening the contact info and than selecting a number to call.
Nope, just a shortcut to the contact card

By default it cannot. But an app could be written to do this. It will still require a confirm to call, similar to using the SmartDialer app.
There are plenty of apps that will take you to favorites to directly dial a specific number of a contact. Unfortunately, none of the ones I found allow you to pin that particular favorite to the main screen. Maybe I should write an app to do this.
How about "Lightning dial" app? It will save you a lot of homescreen tiles.

I deleted the linkify stuff with root explorer and now youtube runs as an app and phone number links bring up the dialer. If you don't want to pay for RE, try Estrong File Manager, but it's root access is a bit tricky to figure out...you need to go into the settings to enable each time, I found.
thanks i was able to edit and delete the htc linkify file using the app u sugested... but im still not able to get the PHONE NUMBER ACTION screen when i click a number in a app... this is very frustrating and i dont understand y only nexus one is able to popup that screen...

I can't help you fix the issue. But as for your last question... HTC was forced to remove it due to Apple patent litigation.

I am wondering the same thing. There are obviously more threads related to HTClinkifydispatcher, and the build.prop changes that are supposed to return functionality that HTC removed to comply with Apple patent requirements. However, this is what I have found. I am able to click links, Youtube links, phone numbers, addresses, email addresses in emails, texts, etc. from my bone stock Evo LTE. However, these links will only launch in the default application selected in the HTC App Association Settings menu. After rooting and making changes to build.prop (using Build Prop Editor eliminates issues with multiple entries of the same property), I am able to get selection option menus for certain linkable items. For example, Youtube links give options for browsers, or Youtube app. Email addresses, let me choose to send email using any of the email accounts I have set-up. HTML links let me choose between stock browser or Chrome. And addreses let me select to open in browsers or Google Maps. However, clicking on a phone number simply launches the phone dialer (just like stock), and does not give me the option to send a text message. Also, email addresses and phone numbers do not give an option to add a contact.
I have discovered that options are only provided if there are options that can be selected in the app associations menu. For example, the options I have in the app associations menu match exactly with the options I am presented when clicking linkable data as per above. However, if the app associations menu does not have options (in my menu the only association I can make to phone numbers is to the phone dialer) then the default (only) option will be launched when that data is selected. Does anyone else have send SMS or MMS text message as an option for phone numbers in the app association menu, or when clicking phone numbers in text after making the build.prop changes?
I think these workarounds are close, but IMHO we still do not have the true functionality that was removed due to the apple patent.

Setting up SIP account on Photon Q?

I have the OG Photon 4G and in the call settings menu it allowed users to set up SIP accounts for internet calls...there is no such menu on the Photon Q. I have read vague accounts of the Q having a SIP menu or settings that are accessible through the hidden data menu (##3282#) or one of the other hidden menus accessible through the dialer, but have not been able to find much more. Anyone know how to do this on the phone? Thanks in advance...
As clarification, I read on a forum somewhere that the Photon Q does have SIP functionality built into the stock ROM, but is not accessible through any of the menus. Any devs have knowledge of this?
I thought you needed CM or AOSP for the native SIP menu....?
Carrier's probably don't appreciate it, so they remove it on the stock ROM.
Well, I was running stock on the OG Photon full SIP settings were included in the Call Settings menu, and Sprint was the carrier...now I have the Photon Q from Sprint and read somewhere like I said that it does have a way to set up native SIP functionality but I don't have a clue as to where to dig around to find it...maybe it was a bad lead, but I do know many setting are only accessible through the "hidden" dialer menus, which I seem to have had a hard time to find in any forums.
Any way you could direct me or know of different dialer menus for the Q? Would be a big help!
I have already searched around with ##3282#, with no success...
Only one I know is #*#*INFO*#*#. Not sure if it even has the stuff you need...
Well, that dialer code seems not to work on my device...I'll see if I can scour online for varios codes and see which ones work. If I do find a way to utilize native SIP functionality without a third party app I'll definitely post it in this thread...

Might just work in CM. I was using it to try and figure out why the heck CDMA service wasn't working in CM10...
Good luck.
Is CM 9 fully functional yet on the Q?
Only asking because I read in a post somewhere that it is, can't find it though...

No. CM10 is pretty dang close, but the big elephant in the room (cell service) is still missing (well, for CDMA...)

I have FINALLY accessed and utilized NATIVE SIP functionality on the stock ROM! Here is how...
First, you need to download Launcher Pro Plus (go to 4 Shared and find the app). Once downloaded, longpress on your homescreen and chose "Shortcuts", then "Activities", then "Phone', then scroll down to the "Sip Settings" listing (which accesses com.android.phone.sip.SipSettings). Click on it and it will make a shortcut on your homescreen. Voila! You now have a full SIP Menu to utilize from your stock ROM! Below the Sip Settings option are two others under the listing "Phone", which access com.android.phone.sip.SipEditor, and com.android.phone.SipCallOptionHandler. Hope this helps everyone out. I poured through line after line of code only to realize the answer was under my nose the whole time!
{{{NOTE: The two options in red do not open up to any menus, but the first one in green is a GO}}}
Also, there are settings to mess around with the SIM lock and SIM PIN, carrier settings, and other functions and menus that I always see in the system apps but can never seem to access. A lot of these shortcuts open up to user interface menus. Awesome!
And props to Arrrghhh, you indeed were correct in assuming that it was the carrier that probably limits access to SIP options. However, it seems that it is not actually removed from the build, only the option is removed from the Call Settings Menu. Check it, once you access the SIP Menu, press the scroll back button in the very top left-hand corner of the page. It'll drop you back off at call settings. Is there a way possibly to edit the actual Phone.apk or Settings.apk to place the SIP option back in the menu??? Hit me back up.
