WiFi Kernel Fix for CM11? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was doing a Google search for a possible solution to the WiFi problem in CM11 and I found a post in reddit for the Moto G where somebody used a custom kernel to fix the issue successfully. I know I should probably post in the Cyanogenmod forums or in the Dev section here (I actually tried the last one but since I'm a noob member I'm not allowed to eat at the grownups table). Anyway just thought I would through that out there for anybody that is willing and able to try this to see if it works. I'm not a developer so I don't have the first clue how to do this, but if someone points me in the right direction I will gladly do the work myself. Thanks.
I can't post the link but I searched "wifi connectivity cm11 kernel fix reddit" and it's the first link that pops up

The only Dev working on a custom kernel for this device is arrrghhh BUT is for JBBL cuz his device don't have been updated to KK and maybe never will. There are some guys in this forum with some knowledge for build from sources maybe somebody can build a custom kernel with the fix.
This is the sources for the wifi fixed custom kernel for moto g:
https://github.com/Klozz/android_kernel_motorola_msm8226 maybe can merge some things to fix the WiFi issue for the HD

Is this why we have to use static ip's on the majority of routers?

Sorry DorianX, but I'm confused. The razr hd I thought was upgraded to stock Kitkat a few months ago, is this different from the KK bootloader?

The wifi issue is due to the firmware (radios), not the kernel. It's just that they updated the firmware along with the KK update.
So, it would take Moto releasing an updated firmware to correct the issue with WiFi I believe.

Yes, the Razr HD was updated to KK months ago but the Photon Q xt897 doesn't (arrrghhh's device) that's why he doesn't update his kernel to KK bootloader.
Maybe you don't know that some Motorola devices share the same chip that's why we have unified builds

i've never had issues with wifi, cm11 jjbl. even on corporate eap wifis

So is the answer that we need to downgrade to jbbl? If that is the answer, where can I find the last Jellybean ROM to flash which Motorola put out, or is that not possible anymore?
Or is there a thread somewhere that has the answers to the jbbl and Jb ROM questions I can read for myself?
Razr Maxx HD XT926 183.46.15 Build KDA20.62-15.1
Thanks

The answer is that the 'no IP assigned by DHCP' issue in the wlan driver in the kernel for CM11 moto_msm8960 builds was fixed on Oct 7th 2014.
(And the same fix was later applied to CM kernels for Moto X and Moto G as well.)

Interesting. I wonder what this will mean for the new 3.4 kernel...
like always motorola have in the ass slide phone users, that same situation was with d1 d2 d3 ( d3 didn't get any update ) d4 now pQ
but we have Kabaldan ,Skrilax_CZ, dhaker, hashcode and arrrghhh so its better than good
This is indeed very bad news for us. And it means that the Photon Q will be dropped out from CyanogenMod moto_msm8960 unified builds sooner or later. The switch to builds that will require the KitKat bootloader and other proprietary parts of the phone firmware updated to KK level will happen...
Despite that, there's been some 3.4 kernel progress

There's still a lot of stuff to be fixed, but it boots with 3.4 kernel now and the display works at least.

Well, I spose if we can no longer be a part of the moto_msm8960 build, we can at least have our own bleeding edge stuff
Great work.
Death for the best (and presumably the last, not counting the F3Q) of QWERTY Android phones. Dammit, has QWERTY become such a niche market that no manufacturer wants to even refresh it? No wonder I sold my PQ last month.

AWSOME ! ! ! magic !
The KK bootloader differs only on devtree handling as far as I know (it's not like Moto X / Droid MAXX bootloader). Not even the bootloader version is changed on the other phones. I myself would be more worried about baseband.

Why? Baseband wouldn't support some/new KK features?
Mismatches between BP and new libs from the other phones.

Yes, the baseband is my biggest worry.
But the bootloaders are an issue as well.

Hi guys,
what you think about possibility of an OTA for CM11S, to upgrade Android version to 4.4.4 ?
Do you think it will be?

Being honest I'm surprised it wasn't launched on 4.4.4 so I'd imagine we'll get there eventually

Yes, that's it....i'm surprised too!!
That's why i'm asking you guys!!
Android 4.4.4 exists for a long time, and i don't understand why CM11S don´t have it, even CM11 for OnePlus works in Android 4.4.4, but CM11S(dedicated ROM) not.
Thank you, for your reply!
We all are waiting for next CM11S OTA Update....

Anyone play with nightlies 4.4.4 ?? They works well ? no major bugs at all ? what functions you lost from 11s ?

Still not OTA update for Android 4.4.4....that's what we are talking about...
But it seems it is on it's way to get it.
About normal CM 11 nightlys, yes, already rolls with Android 4.4.4, but for sure you lose some features dedicated to OnePlus One, developed in CM11S, like Camera features.
So, i think it's better to wait for new CM11S OTA.

Lets be honest your asking in xda has anyone play with nightlies... come on now 95% of the people in here are running a custom rom. Waiting for a company to update your phone when there are capable developers here making your phone better to me is a waste of time. Root and upgrade your phone at your leisure and enjoy. Here is the changelog from 4.4.3 and 4.4.4
whatever is lost from 11S can be obtained just by searching this forum and nightlies of course will have more upldated options

as far as version 4.4.4 of android is an openssl fix which is already present in cm11s. its nothing but a number at this point. but there will be an ota update soon. my guess is by wednesday if they keep doing updates on a monthly schedule.

I thought I read somewhere that CM11s camera will work on CM11 ROMs by just installing the .apk

Yes it can and I stated that on the page earlier. Also its only an apk not a big deal to try and see if it works. I use it on every rom that I have flashed in here including CM11
More than anything, they need to merge the latest CM M9 improvements into this next OTA. I don't even know if the current software is based on M8 or not.

No and this information is out there may I suggest some research. Please research before rooting as well so you know what you are getting into and know all your risks.
Plus any OTA will have a zip in the forum anyways. Plus they are on 4.4.2 we are all on 4.4.4 with Android L rom in the works. Be ahead of the curve root your phone and flash new CM

There is no stock firmware for the Photon Q which is 4.4. The only 4.4 stuff available are aftermarket ROM's.
The latest stock firmware image is 4.1.2, JellyBean.

You shouldn't be flashing ROM's which require the 4.4 bootloader, you should only be flashing ROM's for the JBBL or JellyBean Bootloader, a bit of a misnomer but it just represents when the bootloader was released.
Motorola updated some of the msm8960's (Razr HD, Razr M and I think Atrix HD now too) but our Photon Q never saw any official update to 4.4 - so we do not have a 4.4 bootloader, and it looks like we never will.
Hence the need for the moto_msm8960_jbbl moniker/device.

[INFO] What is the status about our android lollipop now.

We need to know the status about the android lollipop, the google play edition is not enough, though the only variant which received or started receiving android lollipop is XT1033, if anyone knows what is the current status, please confirm. And one last thing why there is no roms developed in AOSP not CM as CM is currently buggy, and not stable.

Your questions have been asked and answered already throughout the forums; besides, this is the wrong section. But anyways, XT1033 got 5.0.0 soak test and it looks like it's getting 5.0.1 official OTA as we speak. GPe got 5.0.1 official OTA aswell. You can install both of these firmwares on your phone if you do not like AOSP roms; these, to start, are not "buggy", they are almost as stable as the official. And if they have bugs it is because we don't have moto's official lollipop source yet, and most ROMs just use CMs source without modifying it, and it hasn't been updated in a while now.

Chances of official CM13 builds now that the 6.0 OTA for original Shield is out

Just wondering what the above are. I'm kinda sick of the stock ROM's awful performance and, having had a good experience with it on my S5, would like to throw an official CM13 nightly on my K1. I recall reading somewhere that the odds of the latter becoming available would increase with the 6.0 OTA being released, so I'm wondering what the possibility for that might be.
Any ideas?
The only thing stopping cm13 is lte bug , all MM roms are effected by this. Unless someone discovers how to patch this chances are still the same.
