Upgrading from sspencer10 unofficial cyanogenmod to official cyanogenmod snapshot m3

Hi everyone, quick newbie question for you if you could be kind enough to answer it.
Yesterday I managed my first root and flash. My aim was to install the latest version of cyanogen on my s3, and following a tutorial everything went well, I'm now rocking kit kat. The only problem is that I've just realised I installed a sspencer10 Rom, which have since been discontinued, meaning I'm not going to get any updates, and there are some more stable snapshots that have been released on the official cyanogen site since that discontinuation.
I thought it would be easy to remedy: just flash an official Rom, just like I flashed the sspencer10 one yesterday - but the cyanogen install guide has this warning: 'you must be a 4.2.2 or older build or this will not work. In fact, if you try to use this method on a newer revision, you will almost certainly brick your device. Seriously don't try it. Downgrading won't work either. If you've updated, a qfuse is already tripped and any attempt to downgrade will also result in a brick.'
I'm hoping they mean that about stock upgrades and not cyanogen ROMs, but they don't say anything about that.
Can I flash a new cyanogen without bricking?

You're right, they're talking about flashing a ROM from the new stock 4.3 software, not if you've already successfully rooted, flashed a custom recovery, and flashed a ROM. You'll be fine, just do a factory reset/wipe before flashing.
It's a little strange that they'd mention 4.2.2, since the S3 never had an official 4.2.x release from Samsung, we went straight from 4.1.2 to 4.3.

Yup, all worked perfectly - just tried recreating crashes that were happening in the earlier rom and I can definitely say the update is a huge improvement on stability. Just hoping that impression lasts! If necessary there shouldn't be any trouble with downgrading to cyanogen 10, right?

Right. Actually there is a fairly recent stable version of CM10, 10.2.1, released just last month.

I don't think you'll need to downgrade, I'm running the latest of the CM nightlies and, so far, it's good. There were some problems with the camera, WiFi, etc. with the earlier nightlies but they seem to be all worked out and CM 11 is my daily driver now. Hope it works as well for you.

Being honest I'm surprised it wasn't launched on 4.4.4 so I'd imagine we'll get there eventually

Android 4.4.4 exists for a long time, and i don't understand why CM11S don´t have it, even CM11 for OnePlus works in Android 4.4.4, but CM11S(dedicated ROM) not.

Still not OTA update for Android 4.4.4....that's what we are talking about...
But it seems it is on it's way to get it.
About normal CM 11 nightlys, yes, already rolls with Android 4.4.4, but for sure you lose some features dedicated to OnePlus One, developed in CM11S, like Camera features.
So, i think it's better to wait for new CM11S OTA.

Lets be honest your asking in xda has anyone play with nightlies... come on now 95% of the people in here are running a custom rom. Waiting for a company to update your phone when there are capable developers here making your phone better to me is a waste of time. Root and upgrade your phone at your leisure and enjoy. Here is the changelog from 4.4.3 and 4.4.4
whatever is lost from 11S can be obtained just by searching this forum and nightlies of course will have more upldated options

Camera, lockscreen and kernel from CM11S can all be implemented back into nightlies

as far as version 4.4.4 of android is an openssl fix which is already present in cm11s. its nothing but a number at this point. but there will be an ota update soon. my guess is by wednesday if they keep doing updates on a monthly schedule.

I thought I read somewhere that CM11s camera will work on CM11 ROMs by just installing the .apk

Yes it can and I stated that on the page earlier. Also its only an apk not a big deal to try and see if it works. I use it on every rom that I have flashed in here including CM11

More than anything, they need to merge the latest CM M9 improvements into this next OTA. I don't even know if the current software is based on M8 or not.

No and this information is out there may I suggest some research. Please research before rooting as well so you know what you are getting into and know all your risks.
Plus any OTA will have a zip in the forum anyways. Plus they are on 4.4.2 we are all on 4.4.4 with Android L rom in the works. Be ahead of the curve root your phone and flash new CM

CM12 on Indian OPO

Hey Guys, I just bought the 64GB OPO from Amazon India. As per the latest CM fiasco, Indian users aren't supposed to get official upgrade to CM12s in India. But, can I manually install CM12 (not CM12s) on my Indian OPO? Will that cause any problems?

There is no problem, you can still update to CM12s because pepper are still continuing to receive OTA updates. There should be no issues, you can install a VPN and just change location in order to receive the OTA even for 12s.
And yes you can install CM12 for the opo, I've been running on cm12 on my opo since December, there are a ton of cm12 based ROMs in the development section, or you can choose to use the official nightlies from CM, but these are usually buggy.
It will not cause any problem, at the most if you screw up really bad, you can end up soft bricking the device, but it can still be fixed.

You can indeed flash CM12 onto your device, and you can flash CM12S onto your device when it's released. You can flash any OnePlus One ROM. Check out my guide thread here:

I was just wondering whether CM inc. is really implementing the SAR based software update blocking for Indian Devices. I do know that we can flash different roms such as slimLP, omni etc. but was just wondering whether cm12 can be flashed or not. Thanks for clarifying. Btw, oxygenOS will be released tommorrow right? I will need to unlock bootloader to and install twrp to flash oxygenOS, so I guess I should keep my device ready

Haha yes, I'm waiting for the same, but I'll be switching back to cm12 after a few days of oxygenOS; really gotten used to this now, especially with the @temasek custom rom compiled by @katinatez and @ak kernel

Buddy, all those builds are cm12 builds. I was talking about CM12s

CM 12S is still not yet out... hence there will be no open download links available.

You won't be able to flash CM12S over the top of CM12, just like you can't flash CM11S over CM11.

[Q] Updating to Lollipop

Hey guys
My friend just bought a new Huawei Mate 7 Gold yesterday and I checked the Android version and it says 4.4.2 Kit-Kat. He'd like to update it to Lollipop and since I have been doing such things for years on Samsung and HTC devices I thought I should help him out by checking the forum first. I found a helpful article about updating it to Lollipop OTA, however it is in German and the translation is terrible, so can anyone point me in the right direction?
As I said, the device is brand new and still has 4.4.2 unmodified Kit-Kat on it.

Thanks for you reply and for pointing me out to the right thread. From what I've read, it seems as though the Lollipop update is quite unstable nowadays and I should hold off till it's official, correct? I don't want my friend to go through a hassle because of it since he is not very tech-savvy.

I have installed lollipop 5.1.1 beta and its quite good but there's still many bugs. Maybe it is better to wait the official release.

I agree. If your friend is not tech savvy, hold first and wait for official release

It's usable as a daily driver, but no, not as stable as 4.4.2.
Generic overview:
-random reboots, not extremely frequent but they happen.
-some memory issues compared to 4.4.2
-a bit less battery
-some options not present

Nope, and tbh i'm not extremely eager to run lollipop on most phones right now... Google screwed up pretty bad on this major version.

I second that. While material design is nice to look at, the memory leak and battery drain are causing issues in some lollipop phones

hi,I tried alot roms but can not install them,device is mate 7 2gb ,MT7-L09 and rom is B137SP11,I think this rom is developed from any rom,by the way official huawei site in which rom avaible this one did not install too.I have another problem when I use ussd codes not change tr expression in area codes,may be it will occur from tr expression,I buy it from TURKEY I think it will not give permission to set new rom on it?thanks

When are the first Android L Stock Roms coming?

So last week I finally ordered the mate 7 and right after I did it they announced the official Lollipop update (yay).
But after seeing so many unhappy users here I decided to wait for either official updates (which won't happen that fast I guess),
or I'll wait for custom Android L roms stock roms, since the fingerprint sensor only works there.
Does anyone know whether there is already someone on it, because I haven't seen a single rom announcement here on xda..
I did some research and found kangvips chinese 5.1. 1 rom on the huawei forums, and I've already seen a international kangvip rom here.
Does that mean that someone's translating/porting it for us soon or how does it work?
