I am considering getting this device, my main concern is the size... Nexus 4/5 has always seemed the optimum size for me, I also have a G2 and that seems the size limit for me to use one-handed and I use my device almost exclusively that way. How is the OPO to use one handed?
I was considering the new Moto X, but the price is a little steeper than I hoped for, and with the news that the next Nexus device will be a 5.9" monster and the new Moto G doesnt have LTE and only 8GB of storage has left me without a lot of choices to replace my old reliable Nexus 4 this year.
Just curious on peoples thoughts on this device now that many of you have used it for a while now. I will be using it on Cricket in the US if that makes any difference.
Hi acejavelin,
Oneplus is a big phone. Don't get me wrong, it's in my opinion beautiful however the proportions are a little more square than my Note 3. This makes it a little less comfortable to hold. Even though it has a smaller screen 5.5 vs 5.7, it's a little squarer (not sure if you know what I mean).
Regarding the size, I can tell you that your brain will probably adapt after a week or so using it. I had the original Note N7000 and it reminds me a lot of that phone (proportion wise) and after a while you don't even notice it.
Other than that I can say that for the price and if you are willing to risk some delay if you ever need its customer support, there is nothing to my knowledge better than it in its price range which would actually be an improvement from the already good Nexus 4.
Another thing to consider is that if you are into more sturdier cases like otterbox, among others you are out of luck with the Oneplus. If you only use the slim silicon ones you will be fine.
Good luck with your choice.
This phone its great. I am not a big guy, but I can still hold this phone one hand compare to my note1. I think its because its not as wide . I can put the phone in my front pocket comfortably. Support its slower. But I own 2oneplus one.they working perfectly.
My note1 and note3 its in my closest now.

I placed an order for the Nexus 4 16GB on the Play Store last week for around 380 including tax and shipping. It will still take two weeks before it ships, and now I am having second thoughts. I like my One S and am not too impressed by the Nexus 4 specs. Any personal thoughts / opinions?

The only things it has over the one s is double the speed/ram and stock android updated by Google, other than that the one s has a better build quality better camera

I've heard bad things about the N4's battery life. And I am very sceptical to any phone with a back made of glass. That said, it is really cheap for the specs it has. Snapdragon S4 Pro is pretty sexy.
Yea I'm not into the back being made of glass, the galaxy note 2 to me is the best on the market but until I get onto a new carrier which won't be for awhile I'm stuck on the one s

Cannondale, it is only thanks to you that I stuck with the One S. I only had it for 2 days and thought I had bricked it until I found your post on repairing a soft brick.
My opinion is that a LG phone will never have as good a build quality as a HTC phone, also camera is way below HOS spec. I have heard that the battery life is very poor. The only current phone I would possibly swap for is the Galaxy Note 2!
Change your mind and stay with the better phone for now.
I don't know, I see all this praise over the One S, only from the owners of one, I have the Galaxy Nexus and the HTC One S unrooted stock (for now) and I always prefer to use my GNex. Bigger and better display makes a big difference for the better and the customizations and support. The HTC One S is more powerful but the freedom of the Nexus is a wonderful thing! I haven't rooted my One S yet cause I can't find a Cincinnati Bell Wireless RUU for it, I guess there isn't one. So when I use my One S I miss all the things I can do with my Nexus. I suppose I can do the same things with the HTC it just doesn't seem easy or practical. The Nexus is a developers phone and if you are a flash addict like me thats what makes Nexus users always go back to Nexus. Once you go Nexus you never go back! Lol. I loved my Nexus S and love my Galaxy Nexus even more and I am sure I would love the Nexus 4, just don't have any reason to give up on my GNex yet. So if you are happy with the development for the HTC One S then I would probably stay, I still need to root mine to find out. From what I have seen, especially since there is no RUU for my network it seems to much of a hassle.
Unfortunately the one S is a highly under rated phone, people right it off straight away before even using one for more than a few minutes (even though pretty much every expert review has spoken very highly of it and the only disadvantages they mention of it, is the screen sharpness and limited storage), you don't get to appreciate just how good it really is in 10-20 minutes of usage. IMO the only phones that are truly better overall are the:
- XL and the X+
- GS 3 and note II
- RAZR HD/MAXX
Plus having virtually no advertisements for the phone means average joes etc. will think that it mustn't be that good and therefore won't care, advertise/market the phone as good as the GS 3 and iphones and people will be interested.
The galaxy nexus display is nice, definitely sharper/clearer than the S, however, IMO it is too dull for SAMOLED panel, the one S is the best when it comes to calibration for colour settings, whites are the best I have seen on a SAMOLED screen, view ability in sunshine is far better from my usage with both. The display isn't "much" bigger due to the on screen buttons, iirc the height is pretty much the same but the galaxy nexus is a bit wider, I would have liked the screen on the S to have been a bit wider.
I was going to get the nexus 4 if HTC didn't get the JB update out by the end of this month, however, after reading reviews and loads of users comments, I will probably stay with the S till the butterfly comes out here. Seems more like a side/down grade overall:
- Mixed opinion on the screen, some say it is as good if not better than the X display, but others say the screen is washed out and poor viewing angles, which I can't stand, personally I prefer SAMOLED screens overall
- camera overall isn't as good
- build/perceived quality and design IMO isn't as good (still a lovely looking phone though)
Main advantages of the nexus 4 over the S:
- battery life once they fix the problems with the drivers/software
- nexus device so will get updates
I didn't get the N4 simply because it's too big. I have a one S with AOKP JB ROM and it works like a charm--fast internet, data, no problems with any apps I've tried. I recognize I'm probably in JB 4.1 for the life of the phone but JB finally realizes the promise of Android and I'll probably be happy with it for the next couple of years. And on eBay the one S, rooted and all, was a third cheaper than the N4.

I had the two phones side by side the other day, and after turning both screens on my decision was made. After being spoiled by the true blacks and rich colors of the one s screen, I couldn't stand the nexus 4 screen.
As far as the specs go, yeah, you get more processing power and ram, but do you need it yet? Does screen size outweigh screen quality? And as far as updates go, if you're rooted, you got 'em.

I want to thank everyone for your sensible responses and advice. I decided to sell my Nexus 4 to a colleague. It was very, very difficult to give it away. I have a N4 and One S. I haven't had it long enough to give a full review. I've been waiting for the successor to the Galaxy Nexus for a while and was turned of at first to hear it was produced by LG. Now that I have one I don't care who made it. He's some simple observations.
Build quality: Very Good - My phone has no creeks or blemishes it's a perfect example.
Screen: Looks great, I don't have much experience with color accuracy but the colors/brightness/clarity are good.
They did speed binning on the SOC and I also got lucky there and got a "Fast" one. I think it just means the kernel will under-volt it by 50ma vs a "Normal" chip
I flashed CM on both phones as fast as I could so there isn't really any difference in terms user experience.
I don't use any of the new 4.2 features.
While it feels thicker laying the two phones flat on a table side by side they seem the same thickness overall. The One S is slimmer in the middle of course.
HTC One S has USB OTG. The Nexus does not, I'm really bummed about that.
Speed wise they are the same to me.
Turns out the 3g/4g switching that alarmed us when the One S came out is hear to stay. It's just more honest reporting of phones connection. Both my phones drop to H when not pulling down data and switch up to H+ when there is actual through put.
I thought I would like the buttons drawn on the screen but they seem to close. I don't like it now that I have it.
That's it for now. I need a little more time to get a better feel for it.
I am getting HTC One S with S4 processor for $180 and Nexus 4 16GB for $280
which one should i choose at this price ? Help experts ....

Wait for nexus 5
Hello guys,
The thing is I'm wondering if still worth buying the One S nowadays, it seems to be better than todays entry level phones like LG F5, Xperia M/L, etc. It's price is realy good, it got a lot of custom ROMs, plenty of very good kernels, stable OC and everything.
Thanks already for the replies
I'm happy with mine still. It may not feel as snappy as the latest devices but if you get a good price then do go for it.

The HTC One S is one of the best cheap 2nd hand phones you can get IMO.
The negatives:
Terrible - almost unusable front camera. Back lens can be scratched easily since it protrudes a bit. Battery life is not the greatest but not the worse.
Lower resolution on the screen.
Positives:
Size is nearly perfect. Good camera. Excellent (but sometimes buggy) ROM support.
Last official ROM is really good.
Can get at a great price ($150).
Can get parts easily plus 3rd party larger batteries.
If the Moto G had a decent camera it would be a better buy than the HTC ONE S, but it has a terrible camera.
At $299, the vaporware OnePlus One is a good buy but for twice the price.
At around $130??? The Moto E? Is cheap but has a horrible camera and maybe no front camera.
Another option is a Nexus 4 - they seem to go around $200 or less. That would be another alternative.
It's really good for its price, I think it's the best cheap phone now you can get in the world if all you want is a decent camera and cool/unique slim design.
Yup, it blows out all new entry to med level of new phones. Don't forget it is indeed a small flagship two years before, so it's still doing good now. The hardware is all good, just make sure you get the z520e(S4 CPU), not z560e(S3 CPU).
There are some downsides like suck front camera, lower screen resolution(but you saved battery life and system will work faster on a qHD mon so it can be an advantage) and relatively slower software development because some devs already switched to other phones. But it looks like CM will continue support One S and devs here will try to give us the last upgrade - HTC 4.4.2 SixthSense later this year.
So, probably it is still safe to use it for two more years
If that's the most what you can pay for a phone .. then buy it ! You will never get anything like it with that price !

Hey all,
An unfortunate accident with a flight of concrete stairs has pretty much destroyed my LG G3. It was a very nice device, but the size of it was a little too much I think. This was the second time it flew out of my hand because of the width of it. I'm a little paranoid about device size now, so I'm definitely looking to get something smaller than the G3.
I'm with Bell in Canada, so it will have to either be a device from their stock, or one that comes unlocked. Since my company will cover the cost for replacement, it needs to be a direct point of sale with a receipt.
My basic criteria right now are:
One handed use. Because of this, the size range that seems to make the most sense is 4.7-5.0 inch display.
Either a minimum of 32GB of built in storage, or 16GB + expandable storage. I don't tend to have a ton on my device, but I want room for apps and music.
Battery life should be decent. I don't need it to be super amazing. My useage is light to moderate, and anything that gets me through a work day is fine.
Anything else on top of that is gravy.
Right now, these are the devices I am looking at:
Samsung Galaxy Alpha: I really like the size and the feel in the hand. Very compact, and one handed use should be a breeze. My two issues though are Touchwiz (I just have never been a huge fan of how every thing is just crammed in) and the 720p pentile display. Ordinarily the display wouldn't be that big of a problem, but I'm worried as I'm coming from the G3 as my primary device.
HTC One M8: Build quality is really nice, and the UI feels lite and snappy. The concerns here are that it is a pretty big device overall. About the same height, though a decent bit wider. Not convinced that it's good for one handed use. Also, the camera is a sore spot, but admittedly I'm not a shutter bug.
Google Nexus 5: Clearly the Nexus 6 is out of the question because of the size, but the Nexus 5 still seems like a good phone. I like the look of it (especially the red model), and the size might be just about perfect. Having a quick update to Android 5 is a nice thing as well, as is the $300 or so savings on the device that my work will appreciate. The downside here is that the device is a year old now, and the specs are aging. It should still be very snappy, but will that change in a year from now?
Honestly, any advice that anyone has had with these devices, or any stories related to their use is greatly appreciated. I pretty much need to get/order the device this weekend, so there won't be the ability to wait for any new devices to creep out.
Thanks all!
Hello XDA Community
I have seen that google launched the new Nexus 5X but it doesnt like to me, no big changes, i had a Galaxy S6 and i sold it cause it was really laggy and it has 3gb of ram and looks like has only 1gb, so now i have iPhone 6 and i see that Nexus 5 is cheap ($300) and looks like a good phone so :
1. Still is a good phone with no lags?
2. Should i buy it?
3. Battery is good?
4. Big Problems of Nexus 5?
Thank you
1. Never really been a laggy phone. It's a Nexus.
2. Depends on what you're looking for from a phone. What are your priorities e.g screen size / software / camera / weight / durability? I'd recommend at least going to a shop if possible or find a friend with one and play around with it for a few minutes, get a rough 'feel'. Price-wise it's still good value, though I would have thought you could find it cheaper than $300 considering it's 2 years old?
3. Completely depends on how you use the device, and what you define as 'good', and this applies for all devices. You do have to be realistic with the Nexus 5 as its battery is not the largest, so don't expect class leading. For many it's still perfectly capable, for others it's awful. Your experience might lie somewhere in between...
4. Again depends on people's definition of a 'big problem' . In the early days, some people found a rattling power button a 'huge issue'. On my first Nexus 5, my charging socket came loose, but was replaced under warranty. No big issues since. I still like it, running fine for me.
I just upgraded from a Nex4 so to me yes!
its available within 200$ on amazon. I am wondering too as 5X is 5.2 and seems might be big. But also not sure if its good to buy 2year old model but still 200$ is good value.
If you're comparing the price on amazon with the One Plus X then there's only a 10 dollar extra for what I make out to be a more 'premium' phone. If it uses the correct bands for your carrier that Is. So if were to use T-Mobile you'd be fine however the N5 is still a solid phone.
I can either get a Pixel XL in March or pick up a Pixel 128GB (black) tomorrow... Seems to me it's a no-brainer. I'm used to large phones though (LG V20 currently, Note 5 prior).
(1) Has anyone been upset they chose the small screen? Have XL jealousy?
(2) How is the screen quality since it's not QHD?
(3) Anyone who used to have large phones, how has the transition been for you?
Thanks so much in advance!!
I came from a Nexus 6 so the difference is pretty massive between the two.
1. While I would've liked the XL I didn't want to wait two months for it, so I settled and I am envious of it but am fine with the smaller one.
2. I can't tell a difference, in fact I think it looks better than the Nexus 6.
3. The transition was pretty easy, although I still have difficulty typing but over time it'll get better, although it's been about a month already.
I had the xl. Used to have a 6p. The ratio of bezel on it killed it for me. Huge phone small screen it seemed. Grabbed regular pixel. Zero regrets. Fit in hand is perfect and bezels are less noticeable. Glad I made the switch.
After going from the Nexus 6 to the Nexus 6P, I decided to go smaller and get the regular Pixel. I have had the phone since launch and have absolutely no regrets. The Pixel is the perfect size, in my opinion. after spending considerable time using this phone on a daily basis, I wouldn't want a phone any larger than this.
No regrets here, loving the Pixel!
Was actually starting to not like the larger screen phones, although they are easier on the eyes, the bulk started bothering me.
No regrets! I came from a 5.2" device, and I liked that size. Sizeable but not unwieldy, and it fit in all pockets, if barely. My 5" Pixel with a reasonably slim case is about the same size and heft as the 5.2" was with no case.
Personally, I would not have purchased the XL unless I knew I'd be spending a lot of time/money on VR. I think the XL is the clear choice in that case. But the extra size, weight and money isn't worth it to me otherwise.
VERY happy with the Pixel.
ETA: screen quality looks great. The live earth wallpapers, especially, look amazing.
My last like 4 or 5 devices have been larger phones (note 4, iPhone pluses, Nexus 6) so it is a bit to get used to going to a smaller form factor. But I don't regret it. Like others have said I'd have to wait a while for the XL and I kinda wanted to try a smaller phone again. It has a 1920x1080 screen so that was the important thing for me.
So, still adjusting to it, but no regrets.
Honestly love feel and performance of Pixel. I came from several Note's including the 7 and most recent an S7E. I prefer larger phones and I actually have an XL 128 on order since Dec 7. Likely will sell the regular Pixel when I get the XL, but honestly it impressed the heck out of me. Almost perfect size/feel in hand, talks great and screen looks awesome. Only complaint for me is the keyboard is a bit smallish for me and sometimes I hit wrong buttons. That and the actual look of two-tone back and large chin bezel are not that ascetically pleasing to me.
Another size convert here. I've had 5.5"+ devices for the last few years. I really enjoy a smaller form factor but am still getting used to the smaller keyboard. The only 1080p display is great, battery is fine too. I'm very content with the normal Pixel and have no regrets.
My last three phones were s6 edge+, s7 edge, axon7. I loved the s7e and a7. That being said no regrets and I've found I've enjoyed the speed and fluidity of this phone.
I wanted the xl but they were backordered. Now that pure nexus ROM is here I'm happy. I switch phones a lot so my plan is to pay the pixel off and buy the g6 this spring.
Came from a 6P, before that LG G4, the HTC One 9, all big phones. The last phone I've had this size was the LG G2. I was getting tired of the weight and awkwardness, not fitting smaller pockets and clumsy in the hands, despite having large ones.
Like most others here, I don't regret it, though I thought I might. I find I have to use my glasses just the same amount in the same circumstances as the 6P. So in websites mostly. But I use my phones to read books, and in Moonreader Pro and Kindle, I'm able to read without glasses just as comfortably as on my 6P. So I was thinking my big screens were helping me, but surprisingly, they really weren't (as much as I thought, anyway). Rather have the more comfortable size in that case.
As far as the Pixel line itself, it's the best device I've owned thus far! Not necessarily the hardware, but the whole Pixel experience.
I'm usually into rooting and modding, but this phone I haven't even unlocked the bootloader. I did unlock developer in settings and flip the switch to allow unlocking, for my safety. The only phone I ever hard bricked was the G4, and it was from a botched OTA, so I definitely want the ability to flash stock images if needed.
The screen quality seems good to me, but the only poor ones I've had are iPhones, so I'm not really picky on that.
Hope this helps.
Thanks everyone! I ended up getting the Pixel. Waiting until March is just insane. So far, it's taking some adjustment but I'm not regretting it yet. I love how it fits in my hand, it's just the little things like not reaching far for the fingerprint scanner (like on larger phones with rear scanners) and smaller text. It's a little harder to type too, but I'll adjust. Overall, amazed with the phone! Thanks so much for giving me confidence in my purchase!
My only regret about not getting the XL is Daydream looks pretty bad, but that's not a huge issue considering it's nothing more than a toy I use occasionally at this point. Size in hand is great, battery is great performance is great, display quality (other than Daydream) is great. Don't wait until March just to get the XL IMO.
Edit: whoops you beat me to posting glad you got the Pixel.

You can change the text size. Affects the status bar text too, or maybe that was the display size adjustment. Since I was using my HTC 10 until the PureNexus ROM came out on the Pixel, I have limited experience with stock, so I know the options are available on PureNexus but I believe they were available on stock too.
FWIW, I only got the Pixel 32 GB to play with, and because Best Buy had them for $240 outright (either via payments or pay it off right after) versus Verizon's deal at the time where you paid full monthly payments and they gradually credited you back the difference. I had already ordered two HTC 10s for my wife and I the day before I was made aware of Best Buy's deal. I have a 128 GB MicroSD card with a ton of music in the 10, so we'll see how using the Pixel 32 GB as my daily driver works out. I don't have unlimited data.
Now that PureNexus is out, I've regained interest in someday acquiring a 128 GB XL. The 10 is "big enough" at 5.2" I believe but my LG G3 was 5.5" display and I thought that was perfect, although wouldn't want anything bigger than that. I'm not willing to spend $1100 on Swappa to get one, though, nor even $800-$900 retail. There's no way that's worth it to me.
Bought the pixel only because the XL 128gb was not available and I needed a 128gb phone. However, a month using the pixel now and I dont have any regrets, its actually nice being able to use a phone 1 handed as I came from 5.5inch phones previously.
Came from the 6p...took a little getting used to a slightly smaller keyboard but no regrets.

Been using Nexus for a few years now. I purchased the HTC 10 and used it for a couple of months and really enjoyed the size of this device. I knew that HTC was going to be makng the next Nexus, (Pixel) so I was testing HTC. My Last Nexus was the N5 that I have used for the past 3 years. I purchased the Pixel and the size was very similar to my N5. I just needed a bigger screen. Sold my Pixel on swappa and Purchased and am currently on my XL and I have no regrets. My Wife who will not listen to me about getting away from contracts and using Straight Talk. I have been using straight talk for years and I have had no issues. She Is getting Her Verizon Pixel XL tomorrow. I will be unlocking her bootlooder with dePixel8 before connecting to the network. She is on an orriginal Droid Turbo android 5. Verizon never updated the phone to Android 6.
When they were first announced my intention was to get the XL but I did go back and forth before I eventually pulled the trigger on it. The improved screen and battery life are cool but I thought 5.5" may be oversized even coming from a 5.2" 5X. I love VR though and as I get increasingly obsessed the improved per-eye density from the XL will be a nice bonus. They're the best two phones on the market but I'm confident I chose the one that more closely suits my needs.

1) I only really handled the XL a couple times in stores, and as well as the iphone 7 plus (similar screen size to pixel XL). I thought they felt not terribly bulky, but I didn't want to have to stretch at all just to hold my phone. My biggest qualm was coming from Moto X (2nd gen) which has a slightly larger screen size, it was a bit annoying how much bezel was on the pixel in general. I thought I might dislike having a smaller screen; but it hasn't been terribly noticeable.
2) No qualms with screen quality, just wish it had a larger screen size (without the larger phone)... I just really wish google hadn't tried to mimic one of the worst things about iPhones with that bezel, that pointless bezel.
3) Can't really speak much about this, beyond my experience with the Moto X, which by today's standards isn't a large phone.
