Good Afternoon Everyone,
I've got some experience with root/android etc, and have lurked in this forum for awhile. Anyways, a couple of days ago I bought an HTC One M8 off of Ebay. Great phone. Flash-forward to today and I got a message for an OTA update (for KitKat). I clicked Yes not thinking to check my ROM version etc. Anyways, now the phone is stuck in a bootloop. The phone starts black and goes to the white HTC splash screen and then stops. Waits there awhile and resets. For awhile at work today I couldn't get anything else to happen/change so I left it and hoped that I hadn't damaged the phone too badly.
I've gone around and done some reading and managed to get the phone into the boot menu. At this point, however, I'm not exactly sure what I should do to get the phone running again. S-ON is showing as well as HROOT, however, I'm not really sure what the versions etc mean in this phone (Had a Nexus 4 previously with root etc).
Any guidance etc would be greatly appreciated, and I can get any numbers/versions etc that are needed from the boot menu. My guess is that I need to sideload something, but unsure.
Thanks again,
Greg
Hold all three buttons until the phone goes black. Let go of all except vol down. Once in hboot do a factory reset.

Alright, I went into HBOOT again: (Side note: Once in HBOOT I can't highlight any of the options so I just press the power button and the phone goes through a routine to check to SD card. As its checking it states something to the effect of checking something; No Gift!; Checking something else; No Image!; etc
I can get a better description of what it states if needed.
Updated Information:
SD Checking...
No gift file...
Loading...[0P6BDIAG.zip]
No Image!
Loading...[0P6BDIAG.nbh]
No image or wring image!
Loading...[0P6BIMG.zip]
Loading...[0P6BIMG.nbh]
Then the screen blinks and goes back to the boot loader and I can correctly select items with the volume controls etc.
Anyways, after it goes through the above process I can highlight and make my selection. I selected factory reset and the phone just powers off and starts going through the same routine as before: Power on; White HTC Splash screen; power off then on; HTC splash screen etc.
Also, this is for a Verizon m8 since I neglected to mention that.
As well, thank you for your help.
Greg
Can you enter recovery? It would also be helpful to have a photo of your hboot screen, clearly it needs to be readable.

Hi Lads,
My HTC touch diamond is doing strange, one day I woke up and suddenly it gave me a Red,Green,Blue,White screen. As I understood it's called bootlloader or something like that.
I tried reset+volumebutton after that it is starting normal and Ive got my phone back, but if I turn my phone back off its gaving me the terrible Red, Green, Blue, White screen back.
Ive tried to do a hard reset ( reset button + volume + round button) but then I have to press the volume button again to accept, but it isnt doing anything then.
Ive looked for some solutions but everything is chinese for me.
I just want my phone back to normal and I hope I dont have to loose all my files.
Can anyone help ?
Thanks anyway lads
Well, if possible, Backup all of your Data using either SPB Backup or Microsoft MyPhone, and reflash a new ROM.
This is what most users will tell you to do.
I think once a device encounters the Bootloader Infinite Loop issue, the only solution is to Flash a New ROM.
and how can I do that ? I am really a dummie at this point.
But it still works only if I put it back on I see the bootloader again.

..better post in the diamond thread. I am sure you will get help!
Maybe HardSLP?
Any update on your progress?
Curious as to whether or not you got the issue fixed.
[If you can get into the Bootloader, you can Re-Flash your device.. just keep it plugged into your computer when you restart your device.]

I just tried to use this method on my Inspire today and there was an error when flashing back to the stock AT&T ROM after gaining S-OFF and root. When I try to start up the phone normally, it gets stuck on the HTC screen. When I try to boot into recovery, it just shows a black screen while the LED is green.
Anybody know what I can do to fix my phone?

Sorry your link doesn't seem to work.
If you press the down volume and hold power can you get to hboot?
Try using bubby's tool to fix the CWM black screen. Its under the fixes link.
I can't seem to access any sort of recovery or hboot. Holding down both volume buttons and turning the phone on will result in the black screen with green LED. Holding the down volume button and turning the phone on does nothing.

Sorry go to Bubbys super one step and search for CWM black screen....
If it helps, the phone vibrates 5 times then shows a black screen.
Well I was able to get into HBOOT but when I tried to go into recovery, the screen would just turn black.
You need to get the stock rooted PD98IMG.zip into the root of your sd card. Then go to hboot and let the phone find it. Follow on screen instructions. Note the progress bar will be vertical on upper right. I bet that fixes you up on getting the phone working. Black screen on cwm is a whole nother issue. One that I share. I think I'm going to revert to stock unrooted and then our attn1 hack kit.
There is a solution you can eng s-off, but I would not advise this there is no need to eng s-off your phone.
The simplest way though it may take longer is to, revert to stock and reroot and s-off with the hack kit.
This is a very common problem with the one click. To be honest there is a thread made just like this twice a day.
Thanks for all the help everyone. I managed to fix everything on my phone. I just flashed the rooted AT&T stock ROM with HBOOT and then used the one-click ENG S-OFF method to fix the black screen on CWM. Now running CM7 perfectly. I'm glad I no longer have to send it back to AT&T.
kinder gentler XDA i guess. Last year posts like these would have been flamed right off the board. Thats not a bad thing, but new people are wasting everyones F'ing time with these posts.
RTFM! w/e it is you decide to do , how about looking for help in the dam thread you downloaded the stuff from? I duno maybe we have a bunch of people brand new to Forums or something.
Ok I don't mean to thread jack, I just didn't want to start a new thread for this. I've been running the Coredroid Rom since I first rooted my phone. I have never had any problems with my phone even when trying out other roms. Today I tried installing the new Coredroid 5.0. It all went well as usual except this time on the last step of the setup wizard, it said something like "setup has stopped working unexpectedly and will notify HTC" and only let me press ok to force close.
After that happened all I couldn't even go to my home screen. I then tried restarting my phone but got stuck on the Coredroid rotating logo. Only way out of that was to pull the battery cover. Tried going into recovery mode but the screen would just be black and I would have the orange light flashing. That didn't work so I tried restarting again. Again just got stuck on the spinning logo.....This is where **** gets weird. I began to receive a call while on the logo and that allowed me to answer thus leaving the spinning logo. I still could not go to my home screen. I could only use the drop down notifications menu. I restarted my phone again so I could call myself while on the logo and again it got me unstuck from the logo. Only way to fix every thing was to use the search option and run Rom Manager and recover from my previous back up.
So I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else? I always fallow instructions and hardly ever have any problems but this was just odd. I felt like I had to solve riddles in order to get my phone working again.
See if you can boot to bootloader by means of ADB (adb reboot bootloader). If so reflash the stock rooted rom then reload CWM. You might need to Eng-S off if you have a corrupt file / bootloader? When done reflash CorDroid 5.0 (What I am running by the way)....
black htc screen
I tried to root my phone like an idiot because I dont know anything about this stuff and I got a black htc screen and i cant do anything. HELP!!
I see a lot of motivation in this and other threads to leave well-enough alone. Going to leave mine unrooted-stock.
I just had an excellent session of Google Nav where it performed exemplary. My phone does all I need and remains within the rules as the OEM wants it.

Had it in my pocket yesterday and it started vibrating really fast so I assume it was a call or something. Looked at it and there was loads of apps loaded up on the screen and it was just vibrating away with no incoming call.
Only way to stop it was a battery pull. Turned it back on and it went into safe mode. So turned off and on again and it took a long time to boot but did actually come on ok.
However, the screen didnt respond. So another battery pull and it just stops at the HTC logo on a white screen.
Also when it does boot the light to the left of HTC logo at the top seems lit up.
Any advice guys?

Take a look at this there some possible solutions in there
I get the device to boot after 10 mins on white screen with htc logo.
Still in safe mode. I tried adb reboot recovery but just goes to white screen with logo again.
Did you try ruu or something else inside the thread i linked?
Is your device s-off via revolutionary?
I got into recovery after waiting for a long while. But the only button to respond was the power button meaning I could only reboot.

Good that means adb is working
Try the adb commands within the thread I linked
Or try to use an ruu to restore your partition table or another solution of the following link, but it's quiet strange that your volume buttons don't work or are they just not working within recovery? If they are don't also don't work within bootloader, it looks like there is more damaged than the partitions, your choice, try a ruu or another solution of the linked thread or send your device to repair for warranty (what you also can do after you have tried the other solutions)

I have managed to get it to boot with out safe mode being active. But screen isnt responding and I cant unlock the phone. Recovery still wont let me navigate the menus.
Is there any way I can return it to stock without having to navigate recovery so I can take it in for repairs?
Any way to put it back to s-on?
Sry man, but if you don't read what i'm linking there's not much hope, all possible solutions are in there, including ruu what would exactly do what you want to and not only that it also could fix your problem.
Ruu <- click on this
download the ruu for your region
Plug your device to usb
put your phone to fastboot (inside the bootloader)
Be sure that htc drivers are installed (maybe install AND uninstall htc sync [the drivers are still present])
Execute the the ruu and follow the instructions
I am about to try this, awaiting download of RUU. Although I am not sure which to use.
Mine is sim free stock from carphonewarehouse. So I am grabbing one of the HTC Euro RUU files.
Is there any way to tell which to get?
And I have read the links. Most of it doesnt work so trying the RUU
Just managed to get the buttons working. So doing a restore to see how that goes. Then will try RUU

Will be the right one i think.
In common it depends on in which country or from which provider you bought it.
Sry, in some special cases (mostly related to alpharev/revolutionary) they don't, but for others they worked very well

Which provider of which country are you using?
Is the screen now responding?
Its talkmobile uk.
Phone is not branded.
Could you choose your provider at initial setup?
Which network type are you using, is the apn set the right way?
Have you tried searching for networks within the settings?

Same thing here, downloaded the update fine but when installing got to about 0% and phone locked up with a big red x. Hard reboot got me back in but says update failed. I am rooted but not unlocked, will this affect anything (other than breaking root).

Hard reboot is where you hold the power button for ten seconds right? Because I did that like 5 times. Factory reset is my last option. Maybe I could try running the 1.85 ruu if that can be provided to me and tell me how to use it

Okay so, Im a noob at all this and this was my first attempt at unlocking the bootloader.
I followed a website and I tried unlocking the bootloader.
I thought I did it right.
So when the phone restarted, it went to the "Android is optimising" screen
I wasnt there when it happened but when i returned, there were all these popups saying everything crashed (clock, settings, ANDROID)
So i tried shutting it down and hoped that when i restarted it, it would do the optimising again and work
So i restarted, but as soon as the Motorola start screen finished ( the spinning globe thing) the whole phone would crash and would be stuck on a blank black screen.
I can still access the Fastboot screen thing by pressing the Volume down and Power buttons.
Is there anything i can do to fix it?
Please make it detailed or very simple because again, I AM A NOOB D:

im sorry, do YOU know how to do it exactly???
and yea i made a backup of all my data (apps, phone stuff like contacts etc.)
Reboot into bootloader, pick recovery, at the picture, press volume up and power at the same time, then use the volume keys to navigate the menu and power key to select.
Note that the recovery is actually broken and the option you have highlighted isn't actually the one that it will select, so you'll have to experiment a little to get the wipe data one.
Did it but back at square ONE D:

thanks though because what you said worked just that a new problem came
EDIT: Okay so just after finishing the previous post ^ and going to bed ( cuz i live in NZ ) i kept doing your idea. after 2 or 3 tries IT WORKED DDD
So i tried making sure everything was working. I tried doing that "Motorola Protect Your Phone" thing that wont go from your notification screen unless you do it. But i couldnt because it said -
"The Phone radio is unable to connect to the network. Make sure the radio is on, or if it is on, move into an area with better coverage and try again."
So whats the radio?
I was assuming it was my thing which sends texts and calls but i could text just fine. Is it WiFi? because at the moment i dont have WiFi ;P
Im just getting a bit scared because i read somewhere ( idk where) that your phones radio could get ruined if you attempted to unlock the bootloader O:
Sorry for being so annoying
Thanks for helping me
