[Q] Help Flashing a ROM - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi All,
I am looking for help on flashing a new ROM (probably a recent version of CM) to my SG3 I535 running Android 4.4.2. I was able to root it using towelrot and ended up soft bricking it when I tried to use ROM manager to reboot the phone into recovery. I then used Odin to flash back to stock.
This is where I am now stuck. My research shows that maybe I need to unlock the boot loader? But am unsure if that is actually my next step or how to get there. Any help or a guide in the right direction would be greatly appreciated?
Thanks in advance!

With being on NE1 4.4.2 you can't flash a custom recovery other than safestrap. Your lucky you didn't hard brick it trying to flash a recovery with rom manager. You can't unlock the bootloader at this point, that was last available on 4.1.2 and it is no longer an option

Help Flashing a ROM contd.
Yeah sorry about that. I navigated the forums for days before I finally broke down and made a post. I'm a noob and there is just such a steep learning curve that maybe I saw the information I needed but it wasn't dumbed down to where I recognized it.
Anywho, I was checking Up on what you said about safestrap. And I ended up @ Has-of codes safestrap wordpress blog and I could not find a download for the VZW SG3 so is that also out of the question then or am I missing something?

Yeah I understand what you mean. I suppose I have been a member for a couple years but still consider myself a noob when it comes to many things.

Do you have a JellyBean touchwiz rom installed that is using the att base? Sounds like it.

So you picked At&t? Because that was the "only option"? Knowing that you have a Vzw version?

Ohhh. So THAT is what those "sticky" things are for..
Hmph.
Honestly there is a reason why we have sticky threads with IMPORTANT INFORMATION! Also what possibly made you think that flashing a recovery for another service provider was okay? I mean if it were me, i wouldn't flash it only because it's stupid. I don't mean to be rude, but you have more than 100 posts which leads to me believe that you at least have some knowledge around these parts, so again why would you even consider doing that? To fix your problem, download EZ Recovery from the market and reflash another recovery from within that application. If you have any other questions please click one of the helpful links in my signature
Edit: That helpful link is titled Rooting Guide.
He he thanks guys, made me realize im quite the idiot. I'll go reflash the proper recovery(regardless of the fact that the one I used worked fine!) Thanks for all the input

Which process to start with in flashing?

Just wondering what you guys thought.
I am rooted on JB and VRBLK bootchain. I don't know a lot about the Aroma installer. Where can I find more info on that, and can I install any ROM with it?
Or where should I start? There is so much info, it's hard to find a good place to start installing ROMS on the Verizon S3.

For you info aroma installer isn't some special process it is AIO program that devs use. Some ROMS are installed via the installer so we can cherry pick the mods we want. Also common knowledge is to go to the Android development section and the original development section for ROMS as those are the only 2 places with ROMS.
I know where to find them in the development section. I just want more info before I start flashing away. And with all of the recent changes to Jelly Bean, I don't want to flash something incompatible.

Well since you do have a Verizon varient of the S3 phone all ROMS including the ported ones posted here are compatible that is common knowledge. There isn't a compatibility issue with these ROMS it is the "people can't follow directions when flashing" issue and some bugs on some ROMs. Also the devs provide info about what is in these ROMS. If the ROMs weren't compatible with Verizon S 3 phones then it wouldn't have been posted here at all. Those incampatible ROMS will be in a more suitable section of the site.

Well partner, look over that guide posted earlier. You can rest easy if you follow it because with the unlocked boot loader you can flash any if the ROMs for the Verizon s3. Just remember to back up you imei and read the op of any ROM you're thinking about because done like cm10.1 cause issues .

Thanks guys.
On the Vibrant, you could not flash a gingerbread rom if you were on froyo, and vise versa. Are you saying it's ok to flash an ICS rom if you're running JB?
2 more quick questions.
What's this flash counter I keep seeing people talking about? What does it do, and how do I keep it from causing problems?
And, do I have to unlock the bootloader each time I flash a Rom or is it always unlocked after I unlock it? Or is it different with each Rom?
I know these are noob questions, but I've flashed plenty...... just not on this phone. It seems like Verizon tried to complicate the process.

The flash counter keeps track of how many times you've flashed via download mode(Odin only). It becomes a problem when you return your phone. You only need to unlock your phone once to flash custom ROMs only when you flash back to stock will your phone will be locked again.
Make your first flash synergy and back up your imei so we don't have to tell you that you should have...

My blaze is currently running 4.0.4 ics with Baseband version T769UVMB1. Hello, I am new to this forum and just got my blaze 3 weeks ago. I know the phone is kind of old but I like it. Any way when I get a new phone the first thing I do is root it and get rid of the bloatware, but after 3 weeks searching and following 2 tuts from other sources I managed to softbrick my phone. All is good there and I managed to un-brick the phone both times. My question here, is there any tuts out there that can help me root my phone? I will post the specs below and hopefully someone can direct me to the right info.
Any help is greatly appreciated and If I missed sonething I apologise as I am in the U.S Army and usually very busy. Thanks guys!

First, you should never look at "other sources". XDA is the best and you should have started here
Second, wrong thread. Questions belong in the General section.
Third, if you look there is a [GUIDE][ICS]How to root stock just a few posts down.
Lastly, this phone has never been on 4.0.3 lol. There was a recent baseband update to UVMB1 but it is still 4.0.4 just as UVLH5 was 4.0.4.
Hope that helps

It seems they want us using the guide for UVLH5 although I followed it precisely (twice) and was unsuccessful.
you can disable bloatware apps with ics
you'd be able to permanently remove them with root
From what I've read on here, the Blaze is pretty hard to brick and if you do, fairly easy to fix. There's a thread on here by beastmode that lays out the exact process in rooting our phone running ICS. I'd never done it before, either, but followed the guide, Googled the info I didn't know, and it went seamlessly.

I believe the Beastmode thread you mentioned is the one I linked, and followed twice, unsuccessfully
It lays out instructions for rooting our ICS Blaze on firmware UVLH5. I (and the op) have firmware UVMB1. They are both ICS 4.0.4, I wouldn't think the process would be any different, and I don't know why it didn't work for me, but it didn't.
In that thread, there are a couple people using that version of ICS that rooted just fine. Odd it didn't work for you. Did you place the zip on your internal or external sd card?

I tried a few more times today, and in combination with a separate root toolkit app, allowing "save root," I've gotten it settled.

getting an s3 in a few weeks. ?'s.

i have been using the droid x2 for about two years. it has a locked bootloader, and very limited abilities as far as flashing roms goes. kernels will be a new thing to me. i have noticed that in most rom install instructions, there are no specifications on what version to be on. lol not something i am used to.
could someone point me in the right direction for some reading material on the subject? this phone specifically? i understand a fair amount about being rooted and performing various things within recovery and android in general. i just want to make sure that before i go messing around with my s3, i know exactly what im doing. thanks in advance.
also, i have read a decent amount already, and it seems like this phone is fairly easy to brick,? also not something i am used to. the droid x2 with its locked bootloader was next to impossible to brick.
cant wait to join the ranks.! thanks again.
Lots of info here. Some of the info is old but reading it will help.

The only way I have seen someone hardbricking is by flashing a rom that's not made for the Verizon version. It seems people will accidently flash a rom for the the International version.
A few tips, back up your imei, make sure you unlock your bootloader and only flash Verizon roms.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 (SM-T217T) CWM recovery and Root

Hey All,
I didn't want to risk the ban as I have found this site very useful over the years so I'm posting this here. I know a lot of work goes into finding ways to root each device when possible so I thought I'd throw my $0.02 in.
I purchased a T-Mobile (SM-T217T) Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 last night and wanted it rooted. After hours of trying every method I could (SuperOne Click, Cydia Impactor, Kingo, and every other non Odin based root I could find) I gave up and decided to try some Odin methods.
I downloaded the CWM recovery for the SM-T217S
I grabbed The Universal Root file.
And lastly Odin 3.07
BEFORE STARTING put the untouched Universal Root file on your EXTERNAL SD CARD
Put the Tab in download mode (Power + Vol DOWN)
Open Odin 3.07
Connected your Tab to the PC
Click PDA in Odin, and select the CWM file which then asks to select the recovery file inside the tarball.
Make sure the ONLY options selected are Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time and then click start.
Once the Tab turned off I let it reboot fully before touching it to make sure I didn't brick it but You can skip that and go right into recovery if you want.
Reboot into recovery (POWER +Vol. UP)
**Vol. Up and Down control line selections and Power selects the line**
Select Install Zip
Select Choose Zip From External SD Card
Select android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip
Select Yes
Reboot
WIN!
Once I can find a way to safely upload a a nandroid or similar back-up (maybe a more experience Dev can send me a guide/walk me through it) I'll update this post with a link for a T-Mobile stock rooted rom. Or someone else can do it after you have root.
If You were part of creating any of the root files I used (found through Google and direct linked here) please let me know so I can credit you in my post.
